Best Way to End a Day

Summary:

Jane surprises Maura with dinner and they make love all night

Work Text:

Jane set the last plate on the table and stepped back, admiring her work with a small, satisfied smile. The lights in the dining room were dim except for a few candles she had scattered across the table. It wasn’t anything fancy—just their kitchen table dressed up with a nice tablecloth and the good wine glasses they usually saved for special occasions.

She heard Maura’s footsteps coming down the hallway.

“Jane?” Maura called, curious. “Why are the lights—”

She stopped in the doorway.

Jane leaned casually against the chair, trying to look nonchalant even though she had been nervous all evening. “Hey.”

Maura looked from the candles to the neatly plated food and then back at her wife. “Jane Rizzoli Isles … did you cook?”

Jane gave a playful shrug. “Hey, I can cook. Occasionally.”

Maura walked closer to the table, her eyes lighting up when she recognized the meal. “This is my favorite.”

“I know,” Jane said softly. “Figured you deserved something nice tonight.”

Maura’s expression melted into something warm and a little emotional as she approached Jane to kiss her. “What’s the occasion?”

Jane pulled out Maura’s chair for her after returning the kiss. “No occasion. Just… wanted to do something special for my wife.”

Maura sat down slowly, still looking a little stunned. “You planned all of this just because?”

Jane nodded. “Yeah. You’ve been working nonstop, taking care of everyone else. Thought it was my turn to take care of you for a night.”

Maura reached across the table and took Jane’s hand. “You realize this one of the most romantic things you have ever done for me.”

Jane chuckled. “Don’t tell anyone. I’ve got a reputation to maintain.”

Maura squeezed her hand gently, her smile soft and affectionate. “Your secret is safe with me.”

Jane sat down across from her, lifting her glass. “To my brilliant, beautiful wife.”

Maura lifted her glass too, her eyes never leaving Jane’s. “And to the sexy detective I married who apparently has hidden culinary talents.”

They clinked glasses, both laughing quietly as the candlelight flickered between them, the simple dinner somehow feeling like the most perfect evening they’d had in a long time.

After dinner, they lingered at the table for a few minutes, finishing their wine and talking softly while the candles burned low. Eventually Jane stood and gathered the plates.

“Alright,” she said, stacking them carefully. “Chef deserves a break, but the kitchen still needs to get cleaned.”

Maura laughed as she stood and followed her. “You cooked. I should be the one doing the dishes.”

“Not a chance,” Jane replied, nudging her lightly with her shoulder. “Team effort.”

They worked side by side at the sink, passing plates back and forth, bumping elbows every so often. The moment felt easy and familiar—little smiles, quiet jokes, the kind of comfort that came from years of loving each other.

When the last dish was set in the rack, Jane dried her hands and glanced toward the hallway.

“Stay right there,” she said mysteriously.

Maura raised an eyebrow. “Jane Rizzoli, what are you plotting now?”

“Just trust me.”

A few minutes later, Jane appeared again and held out her hand. “Come on.”

Maura let herself be led down the hall and into the bathroom. Warm steam curled through the air, and the tub was already filling.

“You ran a bath?” Maura asked, clearly touched.

Jane shrugged, though the small smile gave her away. “Figured we deserved to relax after that five-star meal.”

Maura stepped closer, resting her hands on Jane’s shoulders. “You’re full of surprises tonight.”

Jane reached up and brushed a loose strand of hair away from Maura’s face. “Maybe I just like seeing you smile.”

Slowly, they helped each other out of their clothes, the moment gentle and unhurried, filled with soft laughter and lingering touches. When the tub was ready, they eased into the warm water together.

Jane settled back so that Maura was behind her, her back resting comfortably against Maura’s chest. Jane’s hands rested loosely between Maura’s legs while Maura wrapped her arms around her.

For a while they just sat there, soaking in the quiet and the warmth.

“Today was… long,” Jane admitted after a moment.

Maura pressed a soft kiss against Jane’s shoulder. “Another difficult case?”

“Yeah,” Jane sighed. “Sometimes I wish I could just leave it all at the precinct door.”

“You do, mostly,” Maura said gently. “But I know it still weighs on you.”

Jane leaned her head back slightly against Maura. “Talking to you helps.”

They fell into an easy conversation about their days—their latest case, the usual frustrations and little victories. The steam rose around them while the water rippled softly whenever one of them shifted.
The warm water moved gently around them as they sat together in the tub. Jane leaned back against Maura’s chest, her shoulders relaxed while Maura’s arms circled around her, holding her close. For a while they just listened to the quiet of the room and the soft sound of the water.

Jane tilted her head slightly.

“So…” she said. “Important question.”

Maura smiled against her hair. “That sounds serious.”

Jane turned just enough to glance back at her. “Who’s carrying the baby?”

Maura chuckled softly. “Straight to the logistics, Detective?”

“Hey, it’s an important detail,” Jane said with a small grin.

But as the words settled between them, the mood shifted just slightly. Jane’s fingers moved slowly through the water, her expression growing thoughtful.

Maura felt the change immediately. She tightened her arms gently around Jane, resting her chin near her shoulder.

“Jane,” she said softly, “we don’t have to decide that tonight.”

Jane let out a quiet breath. “I know.”

There was a brief pause.

“You’re thinking about before,” Maura added gently.

Jane nodded a little. “Yeah… sometimes.”

Maura kissed the side of her shoulder, her voice calm and reassuring. “That was a very difficult time. But it doesn’t define what our future can be.”

Jane leaned her head back against her again. “I know. And I’m okay talking about it now. It just… pops up sometimes when I think about having a baby.”

“That’s completely understandable,” Maura said.

Jane was quiet for a moment, then gave a small shrug.

“I mean… part of me still thinks I’d want to try again someday,” she admitted. “But another part of me worries about going through all that again.”

Maura’s hands slid over Jane’s arms in a gentle, comforting motion. “Whatever we decide, we’ll decide together. There’s no pressure for it to be one way or the other.”

Jane nodded slowly.

“You might carry,” Maura continued. “Or I might. Or we could explore other options. What matters is that the child would be loved very much.”

Jane smiled faintly. “Yeah. That part I’m not worried about.”

Maura smiled too.

After a moment, Jane nudged the mood a little lighter again.

“Although if you carry,” she said, “I feel like you’d be the most organized pregnant person in history.”

Maura laughed quietly. “What does that mean?”

“You’d have schedules.”

“I would not.”

“You’d have charts.”

“I would not have charts.”

Jane turned her head slightly with a teasing grin. “Binders.”

Maura shook her head, amused. “Perhaps a small folder.”

Jane laughed, the heaviness easing.

“Either way,” Jane said softly after a moment, “it’d be our kid.”

Maura hugged her a little closer. “Exactly.”

Jane swirled the water lazily with her fingers.

“Alright,” she said. “Next important topic.”

Maura sighed playfully. “Should I be concerned?”

“Names.”

Maura chuckled. “Jane, that conversation alone could take months.”

“Come on,” Jane insisted. “Just one.”

Maura thought for a moment. “I’ve always liked names with classical origins.”

Jane groaned softly. “Of course you have.”

“For example,” Maura continued, smiling, “Alexander.”

Jane nodded slowly. “Okay, that’s actually pretty solid.”

“And if it were a girl… perhaps Eleanor.”

Jane considered it. “Very dignified.”

Maura laughed quietly. “That’s one way to describe it.”

Jane thought for a second.

“What about Emma?” she suggested.

Maura repeated it softly. “Emma Rizzoli-Isles.”

Jane smiled. “Yeah… I like how that sounds.”

Maura rested her chin on Jane’s shoulder again. “I do too.”

Jane leaned back comfortably against her, both of them smiling now.

“See?” Jane said. “We’re already making progress.”

Maura laughed. “Jane, we are at the very beginning of this conversation.”

Jane shrugged lazily in the warm water. “Still counts.”
The water had cooled slightly by the time they finally decided to get out of the bath. Jane shifted first, reaching for the towel hanging nearby.

“Alright,” she said, standing carefully and offering her hand. “Doctor’s orders. Time to get out before we both turn into raisins.”

Maura laughed softly and took her hand, stepping out beside her. The bathroom was still warm with steam as Jane wrapped a towel around Maura’s shoulders.

“Hold still,” Jane said.

Maura raised an eyebrow. “You’re giving instructions now?”

Jane smirked a little as she gently dried Maura’s arms and shoulders. “Just returning the favor from earlier tonight.”

Maura watched her with a fond smile, then picked up another towel and stepped closer. “Your turn.”

She carefully dried Jane’s hairline and shoulders, then down her arms, her touch slow and affectionate. Jane tried to act casual, but the soft attention made her smile.

“You’re enjoying this,” Jane teased.

“Immensely,” Maura replied.

Once they were both dry, Maura took Jane’s hand and gently tugged her toward the hallway.

“Where are we going?” Jane asked.

“You’ll see.”

Jane followed her into their bedroom, the soft lamplight casting a warm glow across the room. Maura turned toward her with a quiet, affectionate smile before guiding her toward the bed.

“Lie down,” Maura said softly.

Jane raised an eyebrow but complied, settling back against the pillows. “You’re being very mysterious tonight.”

Maura climbed onto the bed and moved over her, settling comfortably as she straddled Jane’s hips. Jane’s hands automatically came up to rest on Maura’s waist.

“Well,” Jane said with a crooked smile, “I definitely like this surprise.”

Maura brushed a few strands of hair away from Jane’s face, her expression warm and full of affection.

“You planned such a thoughtful evening for me,” Maura said softly. “I wanted to make sure you felt appreciated too.”

Jane looked up at her, clearly pleased but trying not to look too smug.

“You’re doing a pretty good job so far,” she said.

Maura laughed quietly and leaned down, pressing a gentle kiss to Jane’s lips.

Jane’s hands slid slightly along Maura’s sides, holding her there as they shared another slow kiss.

When they pulled back, Jane smiled up at her.

“Best dinner date I’ve had in a long time,” she murmured.

Maura smiled back, still sitting comfortably over her. “I certainly hope so. I intend to keep you.”

Jane chuckled softly, her hands still resting at Maura’s waist.

“Good,” she said. “Because I’m not going anywhere.”

They kissed—slow at first, exploratory, the taste of mint and something uniquely Maura flooded Jane's senses. Then deeper, messier, Maura's tongue slid against hers with increasing urgency.

Jane's hands roamed freely, memorizing familiar territory: the slope of Maura's waist, the weight of her breast, the responsive peak of her nipple that hardened beneath Jane's thumb. Maura arched into the touch with a soft sound.

They moved together, finding their rhythm as if choreographed by long practice. Jane rolled Maura onto her back and settled between her thighs, feeling the heat and wetness there against her own hip. She broke their kiss to mouth along Maura's jaw, her throat, the hollow where her pulse hammered visibly. Maura's hands tangled in Jane's damp hair, guiding, urging.

"Come here," Maura whispered, and her strength surprised Jane as she reversed their positions, pinning Jane beneath her with a thigh pressed high between her legs.

The pressure made Jane groan, her hips lifting instinctively. Maura smiled down at her—feral, beautiful—and began to move, grinding her thigh against Jane's center while her fingers traced patterns across her breasts, her stomach, everywhere at once and nowhere long enough.

Jane reached up, needing to touch, and found Maura's breasts swaying above her. She caught them in her hands, thumbs brushing over dark nipples, feeling Maura's rhythm falter at the sensation. They stayed like that for long minutes, each driving the other toward the edge with friction and desperate caresses, the room filling with the sounds of their breathing, their wetness, the creak of the bedframe.

Maura shifted suddenly, turning with liquid grace until her knees bracketed Jane's shoulders, her face hovering above Jane's hips. Understanding flashed between them. Jane lifted her head as Maura lowered hers, and they met in the middle with twin gasps.

Maura's mouth was hot and skilled, her tongue finding Jane's clit with unerring precision. Jane's vision blurred, but she forced herself to focus on the woman above her, on the glistening folds presented so invitingly. She gripped Maura's thighs and pulled her down, sealing her own mouth over that sweetness, tasting the arousal that had been building between them since the shower first started running.

They worked each other with lips and tongues and occasional teeth, the feedback loop of pleasure spiraling tighter with every shared moan that vibrated through sensitive flesh. Jane felt Maura's thighs trembling against her cheeks, felt her own orgasm building like a wave she couldn't outrun. She doubled her efforts, sucking Maura's clit between her lips, flicking her tongue rapidly, and felt the answering surge as Maura cried out against her, the sound muffled but desperate.

They came together, bodies locking in rigid arches, mouths still pressed to each other's centers as they rode through the spasms, drinking each other down, unwilling to break contact even as aftershocks made them twitch and whimper.

Maura finally turned, collapsing beside Jane with her chest heaving, her lips shining. They lay gasping for a moment, hands finding each other in the tangle of sheets.

" We aren't done yet ."Maura said, and there was no question in it.

Jane nodded, already reaching for the bag by the bedside. She had prepared earlier, anticipation thrumming through their afternoon plans. Now Jane withdrew a harness, the leather supple and familiar in her hands, and the silicone cock that attached to that was about 7 inches and thick.

"Wait ," Maura grabbed the cock and the harness from Jane. " I want to fuck you ."

Jane looked at her with a mixture of shock, nervousness, and a little turned on. It is rare that Maura takes the lead because she loves being used by Jane. " Babe are you sure."

" Only if you are comfortable with it , It just feels like we traded places tonight ." Maura bit her lip.

" I trust you ." Jane carefully laid on her back and spread her legs open for Maura to see all of her glory. She has always had a hard time letting others take control but this is her wife, her partner, the future mother of her children, her everything.

Jane moaned watching Maura settle between her legs with the larger dildo jutting from her hips. The sight alone made Jane clench with anticipation.

Maura teasesd her as she rubbed the dildo up and down Jane's slit letting it suck up her juices. . She positioned herself and thrust in, hard and deep, the sudden fullness making Jane's back bow off the mattress. There was nothing gentle about Maura's rhythm—she fucked Jane with primal intensity, each stroke driving the breath from her lungs, the bed slamming against the wall in a rhythm that matched their hearts.

Jane grabbed at the sheets, at Maura's arms, anything to anchor herself in the storm of sensation. Maura's hair had come loose, falling around her face as she braced herself above Jane, her expression fierce with concentration and desire. She shifted her angle, and Jane gasped at the changed pressure, at how the dildo now dragged across exactly the right spot inside her.

Maura's hand found Jane's clit, her thumb circling with rough, perfect pressure that contrasted deliciously with the pounding rhythm below. The dual sensation shattered Jane's control. She came with a sound that was almost a scream, her body seizing, her vision whiting out at the edges as wave after wave crashed through her.

The clenching of her orgasm pushed Maura over her own edge. She ground herself against the base of the dildo, still buried deep in Jane's spasming body, and came with a series of sharp, guttural cries that Jane felt vibrate through her own chest.

Afterward, they lay tangled together, the harness finally discarded. Jane's head rested on Maura's shoulder, her hand tracing idle patterns on Maura's stomach, feeling the occasional flutter of aftershocks.

Maura pressed a kiss to Jane's forehead, then her temple, then her mouth—soft, unhurried, full of everything words couldn't capture.

They drifted off to sleep in each other's arms and dreamed about their future family.
