Chapter Text
The human had finally left. Almost every day, they wake up, turn my light on, and leave. When they first started this odd routine, i missed them. They used to sit on the floor and watch me run around their enclosure, trying to find the best hiding spot (they always found me). But now, i was alone for most of the day. It was alright when the glass to outside was uncovered and i could watch the flappy feathers and the speady furs rum the the branches. But if the sheet was covering the glass, i was left to stare at my refliction or around the humans enclosure.
That is what i was doing today. First i stared at my reflection in the wall, admiring my scales and colors. They were very pretty, i decided. Tan and brown and bright orange in spots
But my human never came. Their kin walked in and turned off my lights, and i was forced to sit there in the dark, with no idea where my human was. They would normally be back by now, shouting my name from the hallway and rushing in, picking me up and holding me. But today, i was alone. Had they abandoned me? Would they ever come back?
I cried as i watched the door, waiting. Maybe they were just late, about to open the door and smother me with apologies. I pased back and forth, hoping. But eventually i became exhausted, dragging my tired body across one more time to my hamoch to rest. The humans kin hadnt even had the decency to place me on their laying table, surrounded by their scent and warm blankets.
I had a very restless sleep that night. Every time i woke up i would adjust my position, peeking at the door to check again if they were back. They did not come back.
