Work Text:
Dennis Whitaker didn’t know what he was thinking when he agreed.
He was a medical student when it first started. The touches from Robby on his back, his shoulders, his bicep, or the casual check-ins that he knew he received more compared to the rest. Or the rare praises from Jack that were more apparent to him compared to the rest and the more bolder touches by his waist and sometimes his knee or thighs.
They must have noticed that he reveled in it. He has always had his heart in his sleeve, it was a shock that they didn’t clock it immediately as he expected. They must have noticed that he kept seeking their approval and their touches—coming in closer to their bodies as he consulted them on some of his cases. They must have noticed how his bright blue eyes are always eager in their direction, following and longing for something more.
It broke the camel’s back when Jack once manhandled him, almost carrying him when he was in the way and Jack saw how much it affected Dennis—flushed face and shaky breath. Dennis didn’t miss the full smirk on the night shift attending and his day shift attending watching the scene with dark eyes and a flushed face.
It was a cold night when they asked. It was perfect with the rough shift that Dennis had. Dennis was in the ambulance bay and smoking when it all happened. Robby and Jack caught him as he smoked but they simply kept quiet, knowing the rough shift he had and stayed there with him. Robby wrapped his arm around the student’s waist while Jack rested his face against his curls that he just started to grow as per Trinity’s demands. Pressed between the two old men who didn’t smoke together with him but kept telling him how he will die early if he continues smoking.
“At least I’ll die by my hand.”
Dennis answered with blatant honesty, it caught the two men off guard. It was silent after that admission but Robby’s grip on his waist tightened and Jack breathed in deep into his hair as if it comforted him—the sweet smell of strawberries and vanilla strong against his blond hair seemed to have pleased the night shift attending, similar to how Dennis found comfort in the pungent bitter smell of the nicotine of the cheap cigarette.
“You need better coping habits.” Jack mumbled against his hair and Dennis snorted.
“Why? As if you two have any better,” Dennis said truthfully, the rough day making him lose his filter—an attempt to attack the two men and their habits of going up to the roof as a coping strategy. Preferring the rough and simple getaway of the roof rather than the safe and truth confrontation of therapy. Robby looks at Dennis and smirks.
“Shall we show you an effective one?” Robby said as he dropped his hand lower against his back. The hand radiating warmth across Dennis’ body who simply looked at the two old men who were waiting for a response. Their faces didn’t have any ounce of concern, even if it did then Dennis couldn’t clock it as the majority of their faces radiated a desire that they have been keeping the last few months.
Dennis puffs out a smoke, drops the cigarette and stomps on it. Robby and Jack catch him as he went a bit more pliant than he should be, he looked at them with his big blue eyes and spoke, “Lead the way then.”
Dennis didn’t know if it was the rough shift that made him agree, or the obvious crush he had for the two attendings who gave him praise and attention, something he never had as the youngest of 4 children with a huge age gap between each one and parents who were older and couldn’t care less what he did since he didn’t make much trouble anyway.
Dennis followed them home, they cooked him dinner and then they went to the bedroom where Dennis was carefully being undressed, kisses that made him warm—a sensation he can never get the privilege to do so, words that made him hazy as if he was high and touches that made him see stars. They were attentive, too much for him and very much overwhelming but he indulges in it anyway. His moans were soft yet expressive, the delight on their faces as he didn’t hold back was something he reveled in. His pleas, his hidden desires, all out in the open and the attendings did what they wanted with him.
Dennis moans as he feels Robby pressed up inside of him, twitching, thrusting in a fast pace that feels too overwhelming for Dennis but he moans out loud, digging his fingernails in Jack’s shoulder who is infront of him, thrusting up inside of Robby who is at his back.
Dennis opens up his eyes and sees the intense stare that Jack is directing to him. He shivers and moans at the intensity but can feel himself fading, unable to say anything nor comprehend anything as he watches Jack open his mouth, saying something that Dennis cannot understand. Jack seems to notice this and wraps his hands on Dennis’ cheek, stroking his cheek with his thumbs and it seems like it does the trick.
“Baby, you here with us? You’re doing so good for us,” Jack huskily says and Robby presses up closer to him, wrapping his arms around Dennis’ waist which grounds him immediately, “You’re so good for us, pup. You good?” Jack asks and Dennis can feel Robby pressing kissing by his shoulder blades.
“I..I…” Dennis can’t say anything but he simply nods, “Feels good, hah…” Dennis sighs, or moans, or a combination of the two. A simple excuse that doesn’t seem to convince the two attendings who stop in their actions and look at Dennis with concern. Dennis can see the sweat beads through their figures, their hands now gripping his skin in an attempt to ground him, their eyes searching his soul and he lets them even if he doesn’t want to.
“You’re doing good, baby. We can stop for a moment to get you settled,” Robby mumbles against his shoulders and Dennis steals a glance at how Robby smiles as he continues to place butterfly kisses against his unmarried skin. “You’re amazing, baby. Our boy is doing good for us, just for us.”
Jack kisses him all over his face, light and gentle, the light stubble making him shiver while Robby’s hands are unhesitating to grip his thighs and his ass. Dennis can feel Robby dragging his beard against his back and he moans against it.
“Move please, I’m close,” Dennis moans and it seems like it is enough for the two men to continue with their pace and Dennis moans out loudly as Robby grips his hips so hard, he knows it will bruise while Jack kept muttering dirty talk and sweet nothings against his ear in an attempt to get him close, “Sir, I— Urgh please, I need to cum, sir, please,” Dennis whines as Jack chuckles.
“Cum for us, baby. Cum for your daddies.” Robby groans against his back as he feels Dennis clench against his cock, and it was enough for Robby to come undone inside of him. Dennis can feel how warm his cum is inside his ass. Jack growls against Dennis’ mouth, biting his lip as his pace doesn’t relent and his hand continues with the fast pace at stroking Dennis to completion.
Dennis arches his back as he comes, keening highly at the sensation that his vision whites for a few seconds. He feels high, he feels hazy, he feels like he’s floating but Jack’s steady kisses against his skin and Robby’s light ones against his back is enough to ground him, keeping him there, between him, like it is meant to be.
They cleaned him up right after. Kisses him as a reward, unhesitating and free to give as if they have the entire supply in the world with all the time to give it to him without a doubt. Jack whispers sweet nothings against his ear as Robby manhandles him to the bath to clean up him. The two men didn’t hesitate in their aftercare; warm water, firm massages in his hair as Robby washes his hair using their shampoo, Jack cleaning his ass as Robby’s cum is still stubbornly clinging to his insides, and he didn’t have to move a single finger. He relaxed under their care and he let his mind wander, which was a mistake.
They dressed him with care with an extra jacket from Robby’s stash carefully wrapped around his figure. Dennis remembered looking up to Robby who zips up the jacket with ease, who catches his eyes and smiles sweetly at him, his crow’s feet digging its existence against his face and Dennis thinks that it is the most beautiful thing he has ever seen. Jack comes up beside Robby with a smile of his own, Dennis can see the crooked teeth behind his cocky lips that is always curled in a smirk at work but is now sporting a genuine smile of fondness at Dennis’ way. Jack grabs his hand, kisses his knuckles and says the confirmation that Dennis has been dreading, as if the last 10 minutes of dressing him up was just a fleeting dream,
“Let’s get you home, yeah?”
The drive home was not even silent, but it was deafening. Dennis sat in the back seat, his eyes tracking the street lights and the lack of people still in the streets at 10 in the evening. Robby was driving with his hand on Jack’s knee, while Jack rode in the passenger seat, his hand playing with the fingers of Robby’s hand.
Dennis catches sight of the action and his ears pick up in muffled tones where Jack made some small talk for Robby so that he won’t fall asleep on the wheel especially with how late it was. Dennis can see how much love Robby’s eyes and smile had whenever Jack continued to talk without a care in the world. Dennis looks at the front mirror and sees that Robby is looking at him. Dennis lets out a small smile and Robby smiles back at him, Dennis wonders why his eyes are still full of love.
Jack looks back at Dennis with his goofy grin, that gap in his teeth that showed through his crooked smile made Dennis smile at him. It was so endearing and fond, Dennis didn’t know why he was noticing each detail so easily.
“You alright there, baby?” Jack asks and reaches his hand back, urging Dennis to clasp it with his own. Dennis doesn’t hesitate to grab it and squeezing it slightly, this made Jack smile wider. “Almost there, you told Santos already?”
“She might be asleep. I have a key, don’t worry,” Dennis softly says and Jack presses a kiss on his knuckles. Dennis watches this action as he feels a flutter in his chest at the gesture which made him smile. Jack seeing the smile on Dennis’ face made him smile even wider.
When they dropped him off, it seems like Robby and Jack were asking for a kiss so Dennis gave it to them. Dennis didn’t try to think too much at how pleased their hums were and how wide their smiles were after Dennis kissed them.
Dennis got out of the car after wishing them safe travels. He didn’t bother looking back and just opened up the front door of the apartment complex, completely missing the fond and endearing looks that his attendings go and flash at his back. Dennis closes the door to his apartment once he arrives and leans his head against the door and takes a deep breath.
That was the indication that made Dennis think that it was going to be a one time thing. Like a perfect little doll being bought, taken out for inspection and then put back in, never again to be seen in the arms of those who bought him.
But it wasn’t. And Dennis held out hope that maybe, just maybe, it was something they also wanted and couldn’t control.
They asked, and he gave it to them. He asked and they gave it to him. It always started with dinner, sex, clean up and then they drove him home. Still the touches were gentle, the presence was overwhelming but their words made it real for him, even for a few hours before they could clean him up with care and drive him back home, despite it being late at night.
Too much care for a situationship but too little space for a relationship.
That’s why they drive him home afterwards, because he can never fit in. He will always be an extra body in their laps, above them, below them but never beside them because it takes up too much space. Too much time to spare, too much effort to make, all just to drive him home, alone, in his bed, asleep longing for the warmth that they gave him an hour prior.
All of it done in the darkness of the night where there were no witnesses, no one can say they did it, no one can make it true for Dennis because he wakes up the next day in his own bed with no admission from the two men that it can be something more. They act like normal in work and he’ll follow their lead regardless if it stings.
They should have talked about it. Dennis knows that but why bother talking about it when he knows he’ll just get a confirmation that he’s just warming their bed? They’re married, they are an amazing team and have a routine that gets them going and alive. Dennis doesn’t have a part in it, he can never. Why bother when they continue acting like it’s a secret anyway?
Dennis continues smoking anyway. He doesn’t bother thinking much when he finishes a pack a day now.
🚭
“Dennis, hi baby.” Jack greets him at the door, hugging him tight and kissing his forehead. “How was the shift?” Jack closes the door for him and leads him to the kitchen where Robby is making dinner.
Robby and Jack had their day off while Dennis didn’t. It just solidified the fact that Dennis was just a toy for these men. Robby and Jack always tried hard to make most of their days off together, not once have they asked Dennis or even tried to place Dennis with the same day off as them. He can act like the perfect doll for them even if it means treating him with a care that he longs for but will never get in a way that a married couple deserves.
“It was fine. I’m here so I can say that it was actually quiet,” Dennis laughed, placing his bag onto the couch and standing beside Robby who smiled sweetly at him, “Too bad we had a rough shift and you weren’t there.”
“It feels like Robby is the curse then,” Jack jokes as he stands on the other side of Robby and places a kiss on his husband’s clothed shoulder. Robby rolls his eyes at the teaming of the two men against him.
“Another one from the both of you and you’re not getting fed,” Robby threatens with no heat as Jack takes some bowls from the cabinet and Dennis takes it as a signal. Dennis takes some utensils from the drawer and some glasses, placing it on the dining table with ease—as if a machine now with Jack.
“You love us too much to do such a thing,” Dennis bites a lip at Jack’s statement as he meticulously places the bowls and utensils on the table with perfection while Jack gets some wine and water. Dennis keeps his head down as he takes the pitcher of water and pours into 3 glasses, “Den, can you get the wine glasses from the cabinet?”
Dennis does what he’s told. He takes them, neatly places it on the table and waits for Jack who smiles, kisses him as thanks and pours the wine in the glasses. Dennis walks to Robby and smiles, “I can take the pot to the table.”
“Such a sweet boy, thank you Denny,” Robby kisses his forehead and lets Dennis grab the pot and carry it to the table. He makes sure that the pot sits on top of a cloth, so it doesn’t make a mark on the wooden table of the couple. He makes his movements slow in a subtle fashion and he offers to pour the soup in their bowls.
“So sweet, never leaving either of us out, right baby?” Robby runs his hand through Dennis’ hair as the student whines, vibrations around Robby’s cock makes his eyes flutter. ”Jack just fucked you dumb earlier and you’re still so eager to please, how sweet of you.”
Dennis moans, feeling Jack put a finger inside of him, scooping out his own cum and Dennis shivers in overstimulation, feeling his cock fill back up. “Aw, our sweet boy is hard again. You’re just stroking our ego, dear.” Jack leans over his back and plants various bites and marks as he slowly yet deeply thrusts his fingers inside of Dennis.
“You can give us one more right, sweet boy? You never disappoint us,” Robby thrusts his hips up to Dennis who takes the action like a champ, letting Robby abuse his throat while Jack provides him stimulation on the other end which makes him dizzy, especially when the lack of air reaching his lungs and brain is a result of Robby.
“Good boy, very good boy. Cum for us, cum for your daddies, come on champ. You’re so good for us,” Jack smirks against his skin, accurately pin pointing Dennis’ prostate which made the student cum in their sheets, and Robby following sooner in his mouth.
“Swallow it all up, baby. So sweet, so good for us,” Robby coos as he watches Dennis swallow everything without a complaint, eyes wide open and pupils dilated as if he was high, “Very good, sweet boy.”
He doesn’t bother looking at the two men who obviously look at him with fond eyes as he does so but he never notices. He doesn’t sit down until all of them have their glasses full, the bowls filled with the delicious soup that Robby has made for them. He smiles at the two men before thanking them for the dinner and digging in once Robby and Jack have already started.
The picture perfect toy should have no issues when bought. When it does, it should be returned.
🚭
Dennis wakes up to the snores. He blinks his eyes open, hopefully removing the sleepiness from his system as he slowly pushes himself up to sit and take in his surroundings.
He’s naked, of course. The various marks on his skin is so dark and contrasts his skin tone, his hips hurt because they tried double penetration, succeeding but the pain is a bit harder to catch up on. He’s sandwiched between Jack and Robby who are like noise machines with how much they snore and it makes him snort silently, endeared by the married couple who hold him close. Both of their hands on Dennis’ waist, wrapping him closer to their own skins.
He looks at the clock and finds that it’s almost 3 in the morning. He must have slept unconsciously and the two men decide that he can simply sleep in their bed as if it’s a normal thing to do.
But the thing is, Dennis has never slept in this bed in the 4 months that they have been doing this. He bites his lip as he takes in this new development in the situation. He’s clean which means that they took their time to clean him, especially since they’re doing this without a condom. Why bother, right? He won’t get pregnant anyway and it seemed like a kink of his bosses.
He feels tears build up in his eyes and he swallows constantly to make sure they don’t fall down nor choke out a sob if it wakes the two men. Why didn’t they wake him up? Why didn’t they take him home? What does this mean? Why is he in their sacred bed as if he deserved it? Did Dennis mean more to them than he thought?
Dennis bites his lip and tries to maneuver himself free from their grasp. Dennis didn’t know if they were light sleepers but he hopes that as he judges the deep and loud snores of the two attendings that they are deep into REM sleep. Dennis is careful in maneuvering himself free, a slight twitch or a hitch of breath from the attendings catches him to stop and wait before proceeding to set himself free.
He succeeds and he takes a deep breath as he looks at the attendings who aren’t even bothered in their sleep. He takes his clothes that are scattered across the room, dresses himself up and quietly leaves the room, and eventually, the sacred brownstone.
Dennis forgets that he’s broke so he doesn’t book an Uber despite the cold chill of the night and he doesn’t have a comfortable coat that makes him warm. The bus doesn’t run at this time of night as well. He decides that he’ll walk anyway, even if it’s cold, a 40 minute walk from the brownstone to the apartment and that he has a shift later that night.
Dennis makes a move to walk. He flinches when he hears a loud clatter and he jumps when the wind howls against his skin but he continues to move. The streets are empty and the street lights provide little comfort for him as he continues to walk. His skin is cold to the touch, he’s shivering but he powers through and ends up sprinting when he’s two streets away from his apartment.
He enters the apartment in a haste but he doesn’t make a noise since Trinity may still be asleep. He doesn’t know if Garcia is here but it is a possibility so he doesn’t take any chances. He quietly goes to his bedroom and flops down on the bed, immediately covering himself with his blanket to get some warmth.
He remembers that night perfectly. They skipped dinner all together, the two men too pent up for some reason so they proceeded to the bed. Dennis didn’t mind, but his heart did long for the warm dinner with some wine and a light conversation that was the only thing keeping him together. The dinner was the only thing he clung to that maybe, they cared more than sex, even going as hard as to going for double penetration.
“You boys couldn’t wait,” Dennis snarks but moans when Jack grinds up to him, pushing the student down on the bed and the night shift attending smirking at him, “Shame, was looking forward to dinner.” Dennis smiles teasingly despite the truthfulness in his voice.
“And you teasing us during dinner with your baby blues? Just begging to be touched. We’re doing you a favor for skipping it,” Robby says as he drops the lube on the bed and Jack gets it immediately, coating his fingers and not even bothering making a comment before pushing a finger inside Dennis who yelped.
“A warning would be nice!” Dennis whines and Jack chuckles, pressing up a kiss onto the student’s cheek as an apology. Dennis wants to cry, 2 months in and this is the first time they made the whole routine and situation a little rougher and it gives him whiplash. Dennis looks at Robby who licks his lips and proceeds to attach his mouth on his chest, coating it with dark bruises. Fresh purple beside the fading marks.
“You’re used to it already, no?” Jack teases and Dennis tenses up, glad enough that it doesn’t pose a concern especially when Robby and Jack think that it comes from Jack curling his fingers deeper inside Dennis, “Such a good boy, you’ll take just about anything, right?”
The heat doesn’t compare in the slightest to the warmth he felt pressed up against Robby and Jack as he slept. The heater was always broken so it wasn’t as warm as their bodies or the full central heating of their carefully curated brownstone. His sheets were thin, compared to the full comforter in their bed, the comforter that he gets a taste of warmth for the first time in 4 months.
If he cries himself that night, he doesn’t stop it anymore since he’s in the comfort of his own room.
🚭
“Whitaker, a word?” Robby comes up beside Dennis who nodded.
Dennis followed Robby to an empty patient room and Dennis watched as Robby looked a bit down. He knows Robby like the back of his hand. Robby hung his head in between his shoulders, his hands no longer steady and just laying limp against his side and his stature a bit tired. Dennis took note of this and just smiled.
“Is there anything you need, Dr. Robby?” Dennis asks and he can hear how Robby’s breath hitches, a slight hiss through his teeth at the question which makes Dennis nervous.
Robby laid his eyes on the student’s figure and sighed, “I, umm,” Robby hesitated, running his hand through his hair and took a deep breath, exhaling it right after, “What time did you leave last night? We were a little worried since we woke up and you weren’t there.”
Dennis nods as if understanding and just spoke in a little white lie, “I left about almost midnight? I just booked an Uber when I left.” Dennis did not, it was nearing 3 in the morning when he left and he walked home. Robby just stares at him and Dennis doesn’t try to panic, knowing that Robby and Jack know how broke he is, something very normal for a medical student.
They know only shallow parts of him, they don’t know about how broke he is and resorted to homelessness just a few months ago—all they know is that he was taken in by Santos because he needed to save some for rent so he left his ‘old place,’ they don’t know how much guilt he’s carrying in his soul, they don’t know how badly he takes in the losses that he gets—only knowing that he hides it in a cigarette. They don’t know how much he’s dreading leaving their place and only staying when they get their fill of the night.
“How much did you pay for the Uber?” Robby asks and Dennis tilts his head in confusion.
“I’m sorry?” Dennis blurts out and Robby sighs deeply.
“How much did you pay for the Uber?” Robby repeats and Dennis blanks at that moment.
He has never taken an Uber going to their place. Most of the time, he took the bus or joined Robby and Jack in going to their place. He doesn’t know how much because Dennis never took an Uber going back to Trinity’s apartment, Robby and Jack always drove him home. Especially when it was late and there were no cabs or buses to rely on for transportation.
“Why is this relevant?” Dennis avoids the question and Robby narrows his eyes at him.
“I’m just asking a question, Den,” Robby says and Dennis takes a deep breath. “If you don’t know how much you spent then it means you walked home, at night?” Robby sounds exasperated and Dennis bites his lip, quiet, and silent. Dennis can’t take a guess, he doesn’t take cabs or Ubers much because he’s broke so he can’t just blurt out a random number.
“Holy shit, you walked home?” Robby sounds frustrated and angry at the conclusion he has drawn up in his head and Dennis shook his head in an attempt to placate him but Robby didn’t take it, “What time was it that you actually left? You lied about the Uber and it’s possible that you lied about what time you left the house?”
Was Robby mad about the fact he went home or was he mad about the fact that he left at all? Dennis thought to himself and he licked the inside of his cheek as he avoided Robby’s eyesight who looked angry at him.
“Dennis Whitaker, answer me. What time did you leave?” Robby sternly says and Dennis hopes that someone needs Robby for a case or trauma right about now.
“I—“
”Robby, we need you in trauma 1 now,” Dennis let out a sigh of relief as Dana opens the door and urges Robby to leave the empty patient room. “Now, Robby. They need you.”
Robby clenches his jaw as he looks between Dana and Dennis. He grumbles under his breath as he leaves the empty patient room with Dana in tow, after Dana gives a confused yet concerned look at Dennis’ way.
Dennis bites his lip until it bleeds, he can taste the metallic blood against his tongue and he wants to cry his eyes out. He catches the concerned and confused look of Trinity that she sends his way as he leaves the patient’s room and she catches up to her.
“Are you okay?” She asks and Dennis removes his teeth from his lip, revealing the fresh wound in it which Trinity catches, “Do you want to talk about it or we can just not talk about it now and I’ll make really good Mac and cheese for you later tonight.” Trinity smiled at him and he just nodded.
Trinity doesn’t say anything else but places her hand on Dennis’ shoulder and squeezes it lightly. Dennis wordlessly takes a chart and does his best to avoid Robby the entire shift. He mostly goes to the senior residents to consult on cases rather than going to Robby. He can see Robby at the corner of his eye the moment he’s seen to have free time and Dennis books it the other direction.
By the end of the shift, he can see Robby and Jack talking in a secluded corner of the floor. He sees the concerned look on Robby’s face and the frustration coming from Jack but also has a saddened look on his face. It seemed like Robby sees him because they both now look at him and are planning to come up to him but he takes a step back and starts to go the other direction when thankfully, Trinity comes up with a smile.
“I am going to make you watch How I Met Your Mother. Greatest classic of all time,” Trinity smirks and she loops her arm through Dennis and leans her head on his shoulder, “And I make the most amazing Mac and cheese ever. I put in so much cheese and just enough bacon.”
“That is a health hazard,” Dennis laughs slightly and appreciates her knowing what he needed without it being said. He doesn’t bother to look back because he doesn’t want to know what type of expression the two attendings are holding right now.
Trinity eventually does hold her end of the bargain. She puts up the first episode of the show she’s been raving to Dennis about and does make really good Mac and cheese, her favorite comfort food. Dennis eats with glee as he watches and laughs at the sitcom.
Trinity gives him time to say anything and at this point, Dennis takes in the comfort of the apartment rather than thinking on what type of dinner both of them will give him before they fuck him. Dennis looks at the moment of the episode where Ted goes to pursue Robin and inevitably tells her that he loves her on the first date and he sighs.
“Do you believe in that? Love at first sight?” Dennis asks as Robin and Ted are seated on Robin’s couch after that horrible confession.
“If it’s the right person then yes,” Trinity says as she rests her head onto Dennis’ shoulder, continuing to eat her food. “Why? Have you fallen in love with someone?” She asks an open ended question that follows with a close ended one. It was like Trinity is curious on what is going through Dennis’ mind but she gives him an out if he doesn’t want to answer it.
“I don’t know,” Dennis simply says and looks at Trinity who is looking at him. “I’m sleeping with Robby and Abbot.” Dennis figures that he can be straight with it with someone as Trinity who sits up straight and looks at him with wide eyes and mouth wide open.
Trinity must have clocked in the rather saddened look of her best friend and she connected the dots. The conversation on falling in love, the sudden admission of his situation with their married bosses, and the sad look on his face that concludes the story is enough for Trinity.
Trinity places her bowl onto the coffee table and hugs Dennis who immediately leans into the touch, hugging her back. Trinity lightly presses a kiss on his curls and he wants to cry but he can’t. Trinity holds him until more and more episodes pass on the television and their food grows cold on the coffee table; she doesn’t let Dennis go unless Dennis says so.
“Fucking naive of me,” Dennis mumbles and Trinity’s hug tightened, “Little young me, so naive and just falls in love with the two men who are married but treats me perfectly. How fucking stupid of me,” Dennis, after minutes of holding by Trinity, sheds the first tears that now fall onto Trinity’s shirt.
Trinity doesn’t say anything but holds the student in her arms. She wants to cry herself once she gets a clue how grave the situation is; two married bosses, taking in the bright eyed student in their bed, takes care of him but makes sure he never sees the same treatment in the bold truth of the sun. A perfect little secret that is carefully calculated by the couple.
“What do you want me to do, Denny?” Trinity says as she swallows the lump in her throat, “Are you being taken advantage of?” Trinity asks slowly and Dennis shook his head.
“I wanted this, I said yes and I let myself be used like their perfect little toy in their bed. You don’t have to say anything,” Dennis shuffles and pulls away from the hug, letting him see the anger and concern in Trinity’s face. “If this is the only way I can have them then so be it.”
”You call me when you want to get out, okay? I do not care if it’s in the middle of the night or even in the middle of my shift,” Dennis laughs which makes Trinity smile, “You have me. If you want to continue this arrangement then I won’t stop you but I’ll be here when you need me, any time of the day and any day. Is that understood?”
Dennis sobs at her words and proceeds to hug her again, sobbing viciously on her shoulder and she whispers sweet nothings by his ear, the closest thing he’ll get to love even if it’s not from Jack and Robby.
🚭
”Smoking again, Whitaker?” Jack appears beside him and Dennis hummed, flicking off the loose nicotine before breathing in another puff, “And I thought we told you over and over again that you’ll kill youself if you continue smoking.” Jack says but he doesn’t make a move to take off the cigarette of Dennis’ grasp.
Dennis clenches his jaw but keeps quiet. It doesn’t help if he becomes bratty when Jack and Robby take it upon themselves to punish him if he was a bad boy. Very unlike the good boy at the start of their situationship.
5 months in and Jack and Robby were trying out BDSM tendencies with Dennis. They asked him if he was okay with it and Dennis, the perfect little doll for the both of them, just smiled and nodded. He just told them to check up on him from time to time if he’s okay with it. They gladly took upon the chance and he reveled in it.
Them being rough was now something Dennis was used to. Dennis was going to admit that he did enjoy it but the thoughts at the back of his head where he remembered the gentle touches all throughout and not just given because it was conditional was the straw that made him cry in between. The two attendings just thought that he cried plenty during sex and they reveled in it.
“How pretty,” Robby coos as Dennis keens, trying to move in Robby’s lap but Robby’s grip tightens and he stops immediately. “We have to wait for Jack, baby. You know how much he loves it when you’re all ready for him.”
Dennis whines as he warms Robby’s cock, he’s situated in Robby’s lap as they wait for Jack to come back with some food. Jack insisted on going to the restaurant to pick up the ordered food rather than having it delivered in their brownstone, making Dennis cockwarm Robby as they wait for Jack to get home.
“You’re so good for us, baby. Our lovely boy, such a good boy and you’re the only one for us,” Robby kisses his cheek and all over his head. Dennis squeezes his eyes shut at the statement, trying not to cum at feeling the overwhelming force at the sweet nothings said during sex. He’s letting himself cry because they believe that he’s only crying because of sex, Dennis has never cried before during sex and they don’t need to know that.
“Daddy—, I can’t, please, I can’t,” Dennis whines as he feels the familiar coil in his stomach despite Robby not moving at all, keeping Dennis’ hips tight in his hands so he also doesn’t move. “Daddy, please,” Dennis sobs as Robby shushes him.
“You can do it baby, do it for me? Do it for daddy, you can do that right?” Robby says with a wicked grin on his face, “Oh puppy, so desperate to cum. Just hold on a little while longer, okay? Then we’ll give you your reward,” Robby kisses him and Dennis wraps his arms around Robby’s neck, pulling him closer.
“I got you, baby. Don’t worry, you’re alright here with me,” Robby gently kisses his curls and Dennis quietly lets the tears drop down his face at the empty reassurance given to him. Dennis knows that by the end of the day, he won’t be alright anymore because Robby and Jack will leave him alone in his apartment, completely against his wishes.
The situation was still the same: dinner, sex, clean up and being driven home. It seemed like they didn’t mind that Dennis ran out in the middle of the night the first time, more like they never brought it up because they noticed that Dennis didn’t want to talk about it. For some reason, things went back to normal but Dennis feels the slight touch of tension at the end of the activities where they’re all scrambling up to take Dennis home. They don’t bother trying to coax him into sleeping in their shared bed.
“I can’t seem to kick the habit,” Dennis simply says as he continues to smoke. “Old habits die hard. You can’t teach an old dog new tricks, type of shit,” Dennis says and Jack snorts.
“The last one is for Robby and I, not something you should be applying to you,” Jack wraps his arm around Dennis’ waist and leans beside Dennis as he continues to smoke. “What will it take for you to quit?” Jack asks quietly and Dennis looks at him.
A pack a day, Dennis reminds himself. He thinks his lungs must be charcoal black because of how much he’s smoking the past 5 months. All because he can’t cope with his problems, all because he finds the comfort of his cigarettes as something that is constant and will always be there for him unlike Robby and Jack who can give him the comfort that cigarettes can never compete with but will never be as constant as he wants it to be.
“I don’t know,” Dennis says and Jack sighs, leaning his head against Dennis who stays perfectly still. “Why are you so bothered that I smoke? You treat Dana with the same thing?” Dana was a much heavier smoker than he was, her voice now raspy and she doesn’t bother giving it up anyway. Dennis knows that Robby and Jack have smoked before based on their voices but seemed to have quit successfully.
“Dana knows what she’s doing to herself,” Jack says and Dennis raises an eyebrow.
“And I don’t?” Dennis challenges him and Jack clicks his tongue. “I’m 27 years old, Jack. I can make my own decisions like a big boy and I know my actions have consequences but I won’t regret it,” Dennis sternly says. Dennis would rather regret loving these two men with his life even if it kills him rather than regretting the cigarettes doing it for him. He’ll die by his own hand, his own control because he can’t seem to have an ounce of it when it comes to Jack and Robby.
Jack makes his face stay buried in Dennis’ growing curls. A very small portion is now evident as it curls by his nape and Jack always is so happy to see its growth, despite taking way too much time to grow. Jack bites his lip and nods, “Okay, I won’t say anything anymore.”
Dennis steals a glance sideways but he can’t see what type of expression Jack is wearing since he’s hiding it beneath his curls. Dennis sighs and drops the cigarette, stomping it with his foot. ”I’ve been smoking the majority of my life. Even before I was 15. I’m fine.”
Jack nods and smiles slightly at him, “Okay, baby. I understand. Shall we go back inside?”
Dennis is the first to pull away and he feels Jack move at the action. Dennis misses the hurt expression of Jack since he avoids looking straight into Jack’s face. Dennis nods and just leaves the night shift attending to shiver in the familiar cold of the night, something that Jack can never find comfort with when it comes to the darkness.
🚭
“Oh, it’s snowing,” Dennis comments to himself as he stands in the ambulance bay after finishing hand offs to the night shift. Backpack slung over his shoulder, a thin jacket over his body and his eyes twinkle at the sight of snow slowly but surely dropping down onto the ground.
“Oh wow, it’s the first snow,” Someone comments and Dennis turns to see Robby smiling sweetly at him, “Hi baby, you enjoying the first snow?” Robby places himself behind Dennis and wraps his arms around Dennis’ waist, resting his head onto the curls of the student.
“Yeah, it’s very pretty,” Dennis smiles as he tries to catch some stray snow and laughs softly at how the cold snow turns into water in his hand, “My mother used to have a saying about the first snow.” Dennis speaks before he can catch his tongue. Dennis shuts his eyes close at the statement, especially when Robby’s curious hum is the indication that he wants to know more.
“And that is?” Robby asks softly and Dennis feels Robby’s hands on top of his stomach, light yet grounding to him.
“My boys, are you having fun watching the first snow?” A sound made them turn to see Jack walking to them with a smile on his face, “So pretty, fits the both of you.” Jack says as he stands in front of Dennis and also wrapping his arms around his two boys.
“Dennis was just telling me about his mother having a saying about the first snow,” Robby said before placing a peck onto Jack’s lips who hummed, pleased with the action, “You were saying, Denny?”
Dennis places his chin on top of Jack’s shoulder just so they won’t see his expression as they wait for his words patiently. He can feel Jack intertwining one of his hands with Dennis and placing it to hold Robby’s hands against his stomach. Dennis wants to choke out a cry at such an intimate gesture as he takes a deep breath and starts speaking.
“She said that the first person you watch the first snow with is the one who matters the most. Which is why she knew my father was the one because on their first date, he was with her when the first snow fell down,” Dennis quietly said and he felt the tightened grip on his hand and the tightened hug against his waist.
Jack and Robby stay silent as they share a look between each other. Both of their expressions are fond at the sudden sweet admission of their lovely boy, smiles are shared between the both of them as they continue to hold each other, catching glimpses of the first snow now producing at a rapid rate.
“Thank you for the food, Dennis,” Robby kisses his forehead and Dennis smiles widely at him. Dennis places their dinner in front of them at the dining table and the two married men are just looking at Dennis with fond looks. “This looks amazing, baby. Thank you.”
“Farm boy is putting his midwestern traits to our house. Thank you, baby,” Jack winks at Dennis who flushes red but remains standing as he offers some portions of food onto the plates of his attendings. He also pours them some wine to go with the meal. He sits down once everything is in order and waits for his attendings to take the first bite.
Dennis watches as they take the first bite and smiles widely when it is so obvious from their faces that they’re happy with the meal, until then does Dennis actually take a bite and nod to himself, satisfied with the outcome of his own cooking.
Robby and Jack actually finish everything and they’re all full. Dennis insisted to both of them that he can wash it all. It took some arguing but the attendings didn’t stop him since Dennis seemed so insistent, the student not catching the worried looks of the married couple.
“Do you believe in that?” Robby asks and Dennis sighed. Dennis catches a glimpse on a small portion of the ambulance bay where the snow has started to gather. Such a pure instance and yet Dennis feels like he doesn’t deserve what the snow can offer him.
“I don’t know. Should I?” Dennis asks softly and Jack pulls back slightly to see a sad expression on Dennis’ face. Jack bites his lip and looks at Dennis, he places a soft kiss on his lips before pulling away.
“Maybe you should,” Robby comments and Dennis scoffs. The idea of believing in a saying just because it happened and became true for someone else doesn’t guarantee anything for the other people. Especially him where Jack and Robby must have seen multiple first snows in their relationship and they’re now this amazing couple together with an excellent marriage.
“I’ll believe it when I see it,” Dennis rested his head back onto Robby’s shoulder who carries his weight as he does so, “It’s a little chilly.” Dennis comments as he feels a gust of wind making contact with both of their bodies. Jack and Robby laugh a little at the comment.
“Even if we’re literally pressing you from both sides?” Jack jokes and Dennis smiles slightly.
“Yeah, even then.”
🚭
“Are you spending Valentine’s Day with your men?” Trinity asks slowly.
Dennis has never talked again about his situation with their married bosses since that night almost 3 months ago. Nothing has changed ever since that night a month ago with the snow falling, though he can sense that the admission hurt the two attendings. He just doesn’t know why they’re hurting from the admission, they’re nothing but a casual thing.
Dennis stays silent and bites his lip. Even though Christmas and New Years have passed, the married couple didn’t invite him over for the holidays. They tried to for Christmas but when they asked, Dennis already had plans with Trinity and the girls which is why he rejected the idea. As for the new years, Dennis was working but the married couple were out. According to Dana, they always go to their cabin for that so Dennis spent the holidays alone while the rest of the girls went to celebrate with their families.
Dennis proceeded to do a double shift that night. Maybe it was an attempt to comfort himself when Robby and Jack weren’t around. They didn’t even message him.
After the holidays though, Robby and Jack invited him over and they went back to their usual set up. Dinner, sex, clean up and the drive back home. Dennis doesn’t try to vomit despite feeling nauseous at how easy it was for them to go back to their routine when special holidays were spent and Dennis wasn’t with them.
“God, we fucking missed you, puppy,” Jack groans as he thrusts deeper into Dennis, a frantic and fast pace that overwhelms Dennis but he needs this, for them to imprint in him because 2 weeks without his attendings just made him want to kill himself, “Did you miss us too, baby? Come on, tell your daddies how much you missed us.” Jack sternly says as he grabs Dennis’ hair, gripping it tightly which makes Dennis’ eyes roll back into his sockets.
“I—yes, there! daddy! Ngh! I missed you!” Dennis yells when he feels Jack thrust sharply and deep into his prostate which makes him cum immediately. Robby laughs, almost mocking him. Robby leans closer to Dennis who pants, taking deep breaths, at the sudden orgasm that makes him see stars, his eyes are unfocused as he returns back to reality.
“Baby, Jack hasn’t even cum yet. Can you give us more, hmm?” Robby says in a condescending tone and Dennis pants at him, his eyes are now at least a bit more focused once Robby starts to speak. He nods and Jack smirks, “Good boy, such a good boy for us.”
“Take his mouth, brother. I’m sure he deserves it, no?” Jack winks at Robby who snorts, letting his cock press against Dennis’ lips who opens his mouth, automatic on command. “Aw, he missed us so much. Shall we give him his reward?” Jack thrusts deeper which makes Dennis’ body move with the movement, making Robby groan as he feels the vibration on his cock.
“Don’t worry, baby. Your daddies got you, just relax and we’ll do all the work,” Robby coos as he also thrusts into Dennis’ mouth, letting the student be used to their own fulfillment. Like a doll.
Do I even have a place to celebrate such an occasion with a married couple? Dennis thinks to himself as he continues watching the sitcom while Trinity looks at him in confusion. She stays silent regardless and doesn’t bother to comment any further, letting the student watch the sitcom even if he knows that Dennis is not actually watching.
“I might spend it alone,” Dennis quietly says and Trinity nods.
”Do you want me to join you?” Trinity asks and Dennis huffs out a quiet laugh, absorbed at the sudden request offered to him by his best friend.
“You go and spend it with Garcia. Don’t worry, I’ll probably make some food here and just watch some sitcoms again,” Dennis said with a smile. “It’s not like they’re going to invite me over.” Dennis quietly said and Trinity tried to not let some tears fall.
She knows how much this arrangement hurts her best friend and as much as she wants to give the two attendings a piece of her own mind, Dennis begged Trinity to not do it since it’s not her fight, it’s his. Trinity, reluctantly, lets him do his own thing but she can hear muffled sobs at times most of the night and it pains her. Even Yolanda is concerned but Trinity doesn’t tell her anything because it’s not a story that she has the right to share.
“Okay, I’ll give you some cash if you want. Go and be crazy if you want,” Trinity jokes and Dennis shares a laugh with her.
“I’ll probably get some ice cream but I’ll leave some for you,” Dennis says and laying his head onto her shoulder, letting her wrap her arms around his body.
🚭
Dennis is quietly charting before he leaves to go home. He has already handed over all of his patients to Trinity who was on the night shift for a few weeks. He’s on his last chart and almost done before someone places a heavy hand on his shoulder and he already knows that,
“Dr. Robby?” Dennis asks and Robby smiles at him. “Do you need anything? I’m almost done with charting.” Dennis points to the computer in front of him.
“Can you come to the roof right after you finish?” Robby says and Dennis raises an eyebrow. Robby simply smiled at him, “It’s nothing bad. We just wanna talk, don’t worry.”
“I don’t think you can say that I shouldn’t worry when you wanna talk to me,” Dennis says and Robby huffs out a laugh, a smile spreading across his lips, making his crows feet more evident. Robby just pats his shoulder and leaves him alone with a smile on his face.
Dennis clicks his tongue and continues charting. He swallows a lump in his throat as soon as he feels it, a result from overthinking what they could be talking about in the roof after their shift. Were they going to stop this arrangement? Have they found a new younger man who could replace him? Or better yet, have they realized his hidden feelings for them all this time and they’re going to stop this arrangement because they don’t like him like that anyway?
Dennis takes a deep breath as he logs out of the computer and heads immediately to the roof. He can feel his pack of cigarettes weighing heavily in his pockets. He can feel himself almost hyperventilating as he takes the elevator and then the stairs up on the roof.
He sees the metal door is slightly ajar, he can see both of his attendings sharing a conversation, a laugh and a smile would break in at one point but the way their hands are still clasped tightly, intertwined makes Dennis’ heart break. He loves both of those men but he doesn’t think he deserves to be placed in their relationship.
A perfect secret with the most perfect porcelain doll is always preferred anyway. He’s the perfect doll. Doesn’t spread the secret, doesn’t say anything, doesn’t complain, does what he’s told, pretty when he’s being fucked and easy to return if needed, he does his job good both in work and in their bed.
Dennis swallows to give himself an ounce of courage and opens the metal door, which produces a loud sound when it does, causing the two men to look his way with a smile. Dennis gives them a small smile of his own and Robby scoops him up to a hug, “Hi Denny, thanks for coming up here,” Robby gives him a kiss on the cheek and Jack smiles widely.
“Our boy, I want a hug too,” Jack pouts slightly and Dennis laughs, pulling away from Robby and giving the night shift attending his own hug. Jack hums, very much pleased and continues smelling Dennis’ hair. He couldn't help it, Dennis’ shampoo made him smell like vanilla and strawberries and it wasn’t the annoying kind, it was gentle and soothing. It was amazing how Dennis smelled so fresh despite the 12 hour shift.
“What did you guys want to talk about?” Dennis says as he looks at Robby, who has a fond expression on his face as he watches this exchange. Jack is still smelling Dennis all over and it makes Dennis huff out a laugh. “I do have a date tonight so better make it quick.”
Jack freezes in as he’s still hugging Dennis and Robby’s eyes darkened. Jack has tightened his grip around Dennis who notices the weird turn of air, the then light air is now filled with tension. Jack doesn’t remove his grip from his waist and Robby is clenching his jaw, anger filling his eyes and narrowing over to Dennis.
“You have a date? With who?” Robby asks, his voice is heavy and low, Dennis can actually feel the anger from it. Jack is still silent, burying his head onto Dennis’ curls but his grip is tight around Dennis’ waist. Dennis doesn’t see how Robby is gripping the railing so tightly, his knuckles turn white
Dennis smiles hesitatingly, “With my bathtub? Trin’s going to Garcia’s place for the night so I have the apartment all to myself. Figures I can use her expensive bath salts,” Dennis smiles at them and tilts his head in confusion when Jack’s grip loosened for a bit but then tightened, he can also feel Jack pressing a kiss on his curls. Dennis can see how Robby’s grip on the railing has loosened and he seemed relieved for some reason.
“I’m sorry, was that a bad joke?” Dennis asks and Jack nodded his head against his curls, “Why so? We aren’t exclusive?” Dennis pulls away for a moment and he sees the shared look of the two men, their expressions are hurt. “I’m just your student who warms your bed every few nights and I’m not exactly dating right now or ever since we had this arrangement.”
Jack made Dennis turn to him, manhandling him to face the night shift attending. Jack had a hurt expression on his face which made Dennis all the more confused, “Why do you have that kicked puppy look? It’s true though so why bother making it look like it’s not?” Dennis said, trying to take a step back but Robby moved towards his back to make sure he didn't leave.
“Denny, is that all this is to you?” Jack asks softly and Dennis has a cautious look on his face. “You think we take a student every few months and just, make them warm our beds? Is that what this arrangement is to you?” Jack gently places his hands onto Dennis’ bare arms which makes him shiver at how warm it is, contrasting the strong winds felt up at the roof.
“I don’t know if you take a student every few months but it must have been a lot considering you’re too comfortable in taking me in,” Dennis said slowly and he felt Robby’s breath hitch, a firm hand on his shoulder which makes him scared for what’s to come.
“Baby, that’s not—“ Jack takes a deep breath as if caught off guard on the sudden turn of events, “You coming into the relationship is not just for you to warm our bed or another tight hole to fuck. This is not what this is about.” Jack sternly said in front of Dennis. Dennis can see how furious Jack is and Robby stood beside Jack with the same expression, never letting go of his grip on Dennis’ wrist so he wouldn't escape.
“Then what? You want to fight badly that this is something else to protect your dignity? If you just want to have another warm body with you who is half your age and can do every single order that you have then go for it. I’m not complaining but you don’t get to act like this,” Dennis gestures to the three of them and Robby raises an eyebrow.
“Like what?” Robby spats out and it makes Dennis flinch at how poisonous his tone of voice is directed towards Dennis. Robby must have hated the fact that it is confronted towards him that their dignity is shattered for taking in the dumb and naive student who is half their age and will be putty in their hands once an order is made. Dennis forgot that Robby hates it when his flaws are being confronted.
“Like you care!” Dennis yells out and both attendings scoff at his exclamation. “Why do you care so much? Stop trying to protect yourselves, I’m not even going to HR, I haven’t told anyone yet and I fully consent to everything you want to do. Isn’t that the perfect setup you so wanted?” Dennis rambles on. He can actually feel the tears building up in his eyes and he blinks repeatedly to make sure it dries down instead of running down his face. He refuses to show vulnerability now.
This meeting may be a secret to the three of them as the night begins to make its appearance but his own feelings are a secret of his own, not something that the attendings are entitled to see.
This is what they wanted right? A warm body to fully submit themselves to their every whim. Jack and Robby have control issues, it is an occupational hazard that comes with the job of emergency medicine where unpredictability is its own bread and butter. They feel the thrill and accomplishment in being able to control something outside of work and it was in the form of one Dennis Whitaker.
“Fucking hell, baby,” Robby groans as Dennis takes him deeper in his mouth and setting a faster pace but Robby’s grip in his hair tightens and he makes Dennis pull back slightly. “Naughty boy, you don’t know how to obey, huh? I just said to keep it slow,” Robby grumbles and Dennis whines against his cock. Jack is on the sidelines watching the entire scene with a smirk on his lips.
“Does our boy not know how to obey? Such a shame, he was just good earlier this shift,” Jack says and slaps Dennis on his ass which makes him yelp. “Be a good boy for your daddy, baby. You know what happens to naughty boys,” Jack clicks his tongue as he starts pressing kisses and bite marks all across Dennis’ back.
Dennis whimpers and nods, “I’m sorry daddy, I’ll do better next time.” Dennis looks up at Robby through his teary lashes and this makes Robby smile triumphantly. Dennis can feel Robby’s gentle caressing of his hair which makes him lean into it, Robby coos at the action and smiles genuinely.
“It’s okay, baby. Now, be good for you daddy, hm?” Robby sweetly asks and Dennis nods, taking in Robby’s cock inside his mouth immediately and setting it in a pace that Robby is happy with. Robby watches with glee as Dennis immediately obeys him with no hesitation, completely surrendering himself in the mercy of Robby and Jack.
Robby and Jack look so offended and hurt after Dennis finishes speaking. Dennis shook his head with an offending smirk on his face, snatching his wrist from Robby’s grip in a more forceful fashion than he wanted to. He steps back, one, two, three and takes a deep breath before speaking, “I’m going home. You don’t get to make demands and change the situation when it’s been like this for almost 7 months already.” Dennis sternly says before running away from the roof.
Dennis looks back and waits. His heart breaks more and more as each second passes and the attendings don’t bother running after him.
He smiles to himself, painfully as he runs down the stairs and enters the elevator. He tries to keep it together as he enters the department floor, getting his things from his locker and immediately heading out to the chill of the city. Dennis looks upwards and still sees the snow that is carefully falling down from the skies. He chokes back a sob as he realizes that he still feels cold, even if he’s now wearing Robby’s fleece that the older attending lent him earlier since he was feeling the cold.
Dennis can see the multiple collections of snow that accumulated throughout the day. He knows that some people will come later to clean it all up and have the process repeat itself over and over again. He finds himself walking to the bus station in the cold and is glad that a bus came in immediately, making him sigh in relief at the cold that the bus provides. He pays for his fare, sits by the window seat and just stares as the hospital is completely out of his sight.
He doesn’t mind the cold, hell, he comes to love it. He has no choice but to do so when he can have nothing to cling to for warmth.
🚭
”You going to Garcia’s now?” Dennis asks and Trinity nods.
“Yeah, staying there for the night. You going to be alright here?” Trinity asks as she checks her make up in the mirror, absolutely gorgeous in the dress she bought just for Valentine’s Day. Garcia is taking her to a fancy Italian restaurant. Trinity is absolutely delighted and excited for it.
It’s Valentine’s Day, a full 2 weeks since that confrontation at the roof. Dennis has not been called by the two attendings since then, no calls, no messages, no secret meetings in the roof or in the ambulance bay or even in an empty patient room. Nothing and Dennis wants to cry.
Robby and Jack don’t even bother acknowledging his presence at work. Sure, Dennis still asks them for consults on a case but other than that, they are stern, flat, and completely professional. He avoids being in the same place as the both of them and avoids any instances where he could be called upon, making sure he’s always with someone so they don’t bother him.
What hurts Dennis the most is that whenever he tries to sneak a glance at the both of them, especially during hand offs at the start and end of the shift, they aren’t looking at him. Absolutely not realizing that the moment he looks away, the two men look at the student with yearning and love on their expressions, as if they want to grab Dennis and just pull him into a hug and never let go.
“Yep. Got some good ramen, some dumplings from Costco, some really good wine and your Disney+ is ready for me. I am so going to rock this Valentine’s Day,” Dennis says jokingly and Trinity laughs.
She walks to Dennis and hugs him tight, Dennis smiles and returns it immediately. Trinity is an older sister that he didn’t know he needed. She was sarcastic and maybe borderline mean but he knows that she cares for him immensely and he would not trade anything for the world. He’s going to be alright if he’s with her.
“Have a great night, okay? She’s going to take care of you, I have no doubt about that,” Dennis smiles and Trinity kisses him on the cheek.
Their intercom ringing snaps them out of their moment and Trinity smiles really wide, making little jumps and already putting on her heels. Dennis smiles at how happy she is and he goes to answer the intercom.
“Yolanda, Trinity’s ready and I’ll ring you up,” Dennis said with a smile and there was a pause of silence. Dennis thought that this was an indication that Yolanda got his message but she always makes a quirky quip before Dennis buzzes her in.
“Dennis, it’s me,” Yolanda starts and pauses for a few seconds, “Abbot and Robby are here with me.”
Dennis freezes and looks at Trinity who has her eyes wide as she processes the words that her girlfriend said in the intercom. Dennis feels like his chest is tight and he can’t breath. He stumbles back to the door and Trinity immediately tries to make sure he doesn’t fall. Luckily he catches himself because if he does fall, Trinity won’t catch him fast enough with her floor length dress and 5 inch heels.
Dennis tries to regulate his breathing, already in the brick of a panic attack if he doesn’t compose himself immediately. He thought that everything was over the moment they didn’t chase after him and proceeds like the last 7 months didn’t happen. Didn’t even bother talking about it properly in the roof despite him already saying his peace. Robby and Jack just stood there like idiots with hurt expressions and the more Dennis tried to stay, the more he realized that maybe they didn’t want him to stay.
They were alright if he stayed or not. Dolls are always replaceable anyway.
“Babe, umm, can you give us a second?” Trinity says and he can hear Garcia giving her a confirmation but all he hears is muffled voices, as if he’s underwater and he can’t see or comprehend anything in his surroundings. Trinity keeps her hand on Dennis’ shoulder to make him go back to reality. “Dennis, we have little time frame here, do you want to see them?”
All Garcia knows is that Dennis has had a rough patch with Robby and Jack. She knows that there’s a situation but doesn’t know any details. She can’t really say anything when she, a surgical fellow, is also dating Trinity, an intern. She may not know what’s going on but what Dennis knows is that she’s also overprotective just like Trinity and he’s grateful that she’s stern about it.
“Dennis, you have to answer me right now. I am so sorry but this is a decision you need to make, right now,” She says urgently and clearly sympathetic of the situation at hand. Dennis feels tears building up in his eyes.
Dennis can’t handle talking to them right now, he’s not ready to face the truth—where they don’t want him in their lives anymore. He can see himself forfeiting the spot for residency in PTMC and going to New York or Maryland. He tries not to think about how his second and third choices are just a few hours drive away from Pittsburgh, an attempt to cling into the memory that has Robby and Jack there.
“Let them in,” Dennis chokes and Trinity nods, making her stand up straight. Trinity takes a deep breath and looks at Dennis who nods at her, even if he looks like he lost all fight, determination and courage in his very soul.
Robby and Jack always had that influence on him, he’ll lose anything if it meant submitting and loving them until the end of time. He’ll do it gladly, even if he knows that Robby and Jack won’t do the exact same for him.
”Babe, I’ll let all three of you in,” Trinity says and buzzes the three doctors into the apartment building. Dennis takes a deep breath and Trinity comes to him, holding his face and smiling at him, “You got this, you are one of the strongest people I know. You need me, you call me, Yolanda and I will come to you,” Trinity sternly says and Dennis huffs a laugh.
”That’s not exactly the Valentine’s Day she asked for,” Dennis lightly said and Trinity playfully rolled her eyes.
“A woman that doesn’t understand that you are a priority to me and that I will always come to your aid is not the woman for me,” Trinity said and Dennis feels a lump in his throat that he swallows repeatedly. “The love of my life should understand that you will always have a room for both of us, in our lives, in our future home, in everything. You have to know that,” Trinity says as she wraps her arms around Dennis’ waist who tightly hugs her back.
Trinity doesn’t know it but Dennis will also say the exact same thing to his future. No matter what happens, Trinity Santos will always be a priority to him. This is the first time that he is made of a priority in his life and he will cherish her with his life.
A knock on the door snaps them off of their hug and Dennis bites his lip, anxious to see the two doctors that he has been dreaming of seeing, dreaming of being, dreaming of belonging with for the past 7 months. Dennis pulls away from Trinity who walks to the door and he knows that the three doctors at the other side can hear the clicking of the heels and stopping near the door but they don’t make any demands when she doesn’t open it.
Trinity looks back at Dennis who takes a deep breath and nods. Trinity nods back and slowly twists down the handle, opening the door widely. Dennis’ breath hitches when he sees Jack and Robby in normal clothes. They look handsome as always. Simple pants, simple shirts and more layers for Robby compared with Jack. It was expected, Jack always did run hotter than the both of them combined.
Dennis smiles at the three doctors and nods to Yolanda, “Yolanda,” He teasingly greets her and she snorts a laugh. “I do hope you take care of her. She did spend the last 2 hours preparing.”
Trinity lightly slaps him on the shoulder, “Hey! That was done in confidence!”
Yolanda lightly smiles and says, “Well, she does look gorgeous.” Trinity smiles shyly at her and Trinity walks over to her and gives her a kiss. “Don’t wait up,” Yolanda teases and Dennis laughs.
“I won’t. She’s staying over at your place,” Dennis says and gives Yolanda a hug, and she happily reciprocates. One thing about Garcia is that she’s like a carbon copy of Trinity and it seems like she has warmed up to Dennis, even liking him as a person outside of the hospital.
“Have a lovely night, both of you,” Dennis says and kisses Trinity on the cheek and she smiles. Dennis looks at Robby and Jack who are watching the scene with fond looks. Dennis shyly smiles and laughs lightly when Yolanda gives him a kiss on the cheek.
The three men bid their farewells to the two women and they don’t say anything until all three of them see the elevator doors closing right after they enter. Dennis looks at the two men and gulps, “Would you two like to come inside?” Dennis quietly asks them and they shake their heads.
“We were actually wondering if you can have dinner with us, at home,” Their home, not their home.
Dennis quietly observes the two men, they look nervous as if they’re expecting a scolding and they don’t radiate the confidence that he’s so used to seeing them in. They actually look like they’ve admitted defeat, that they’ve lost but Dennis doesn’t know where and how they lost.
“It’s Valentine’s Day, you should be celebrating just the two of you,” Dennis says and both of them snapped their heads up to him with an unknown expression on their faces but they did have frowns on their faces when they registered what he said, “It’s alright if you don’t let me join in. I get that. I’m just, here,” Dennis sighs heavily, not registering that tears are slowly but surely building up in the eyes of the attendings.
“Denny,” Robby chokes, “We want you, aside from the sex. We want you in our lives,” Robby said and Dennis bites his lip, wrapping his arms around himself in an attempt to comfort himself.
Jack sighs, “Can we come inside? We can talk about it inside.” Dennis looked at Jack and nodded, letting them into the apartment and then closing the door.
Dennis sits down at the coffee table and the two men take the couch. Dennis badly wants to smoke and he figures that with the fire alarm in their place, he grabs the pink vape owned by Trinity and takes a puff. He exhales it with ease and Jack furrows his eyebrows, “I didn’t know you also vaped.” Dennis clings tightly to the vape, Trinity’s vape, as if it’s a form of replacement since Trinity’s out and he badly needs someone to hold his hand while they have this discussion.
Dennis smiles, “You don’t know many things about me.” It seems this was a dagger to the heart of the attendings whose shoulders slumped at the statement as they continue to watch Dennis inhale the smoke and exhale it with ease. “If you want to talk then talk,” Dennis’ voice cracked at the last syllable of his sentence and he took a deep breath.
“Honey,” Jack starts by leaning forward a little and takes Dennis’ space hand, holding it tightly against his own rough ones, “When have we ever made you realize that you were not as important?” Jack asks, wanting to get to the bottom of the issue.
You know how when you die, your entire life flashes before your very eyes but you never know what type of memories will flash by and if you ever get to choose. Dennis feels like the past few seconds were a fast montage of him having dinner, having sex, cleaning up and being driven home by the attendings. There was nothing that deviated from their routine, there were no quick kisses in the department, no invitations outside of secret nights, no memorable moments where he feels like he’s just more than their favorite toy that they can manipulate on their own whim.
Dennis stays silent, pink vape now loose in his other hand but Jack and Robby wait for him to speak, as if they have all the time in the world to share such a lovely holiday with Dennis. As if they wanted to. Dennis closes his eyes tight when that specific thought comes to mind and he takes a deep breath.
“You let me go home the first time,” Dennis says with a small smile and tears glistening in his eyes, all threatening to flow down his porcelain cheeks, “I didn’t want to go home.” I wanted to stay. The hidden meaning immediately registers in the minds of the attendings.
Jack and Robby had their eyes wide open, shock very much evident in their faces as they realized their grave mistake. One simple gesture that became a routine was the main reason why Dennis was being like this. They couldn’t count how many times they have sent him home, willingly and Dennis had to do so because he was a good doll, always obeying and never wavering, never opposing, silent.
“Baby,” Robby chokes back a sob but his broken voice fails to join, “We thought that was what you wanted.” Robby says and Dennis takes a deep breath.
“You never asked what I wanted!” Dennis makes it clear, “I gave in every single thing you wanted me to do and I will do it every single time even if it hurts.” Dennis now had his tears rolling down his cheeks and the two attendings are just itching to wipe it for him. “You didn’t even chase after me when I ran off the roof.” Dennis laughs mockingly and Jack’s breath hitches.
“We didn’t know you wanted us to,” Jack says and hangs his head in between his shoulders.
Dennis looks at the both of them and sighs, “We never talked about it. I feel like a dirty little secret for a married couple and maybe that’s what I am to you but I actually kept it like it’s the thing that will save me, the truth and I am so delusional to think that maybe you wanted something with me,” Dennis rambles, already standing up and Jack bites back the whine he feels rumbling deep inside of him when the touch of Dennis is released from his hold, immediately feeling colder than ever.
“Dennis, we want something more from you, we really do. You also have to understand our situation, we’re two old men who are actually pretty close to retirement. Do you really want to be saddled with the both of us when you could be living your life and your career and we’re just at home, making the most out of it?” Jack asks desperately, his insecurities are filling the air in the room and Dennis is taken aback at how vulnerable Jack is to him. Jack being vulnerable is something he has never encountered, if he’s doing all of this now then it meant it was the truth.
“Do you think so little of my love for the both of you that you would think that I wouldn’t stay?” Dennis says exasperated, not even minding the little slip of tongue. He catches the shocked expressions of the attendings who try and swallow their tears and sobs. “I have stayed for 7 months which took a toll on my emotional well being and you think this is my fault?” Dennis is frustrated at the idea of these two men putting the blame on the student who simply agreed on anything that they wanted.
“That’s not what we’re saying!” Robby sighs as he stands up and runs his hands over his face. Dennis flinched when he heard Robby raise his voice all so suddenly. That’s what Robby did when he was frustrated, he paced around, hung his head between his shoulders, ran his hands over his face, in an attempt to make himself move because the anxiety would make him twitch. “Fuck, we really should have talked about this,” Robby sighs and Dennis licks the inside of his cheek.
“You should have talked about this,” Dennis snaps at them before he even realizes the words have left his mouth. Dennis’ eyes are wide open once he realizes it. Dennis had been the youngest of 4 children, all of which were spent with him trying to make sure he was heard, it didn’t mind how—by yelling, by cursing, by throw glass onto the walls just for his brothers to even look at him, or by digging into the deepest darkest truths and letting it out as a means of attack.
Jack scoffs as he runs his fingers through his hair in annoyance, “If you wanted to talk to us so badly then you should have! Instead of letting it fester in your fucking mind and eating you out while we think that this is the arrangement that you wanted!” Jack yells out, frustrated, but still stays seated and Dennis laughs mockingly, he actually feels like he’s going to go insane.
“And risk you two leaving me behind? Yeah because the perfect doll gets returned when the owners who bought it don’t want it anymore. It is so easy for a single thought to manifest and before I know it, you’re breaking the arrangement and I’m forced to live alone because you’re the married couple! No one is on my side,” Dennis sternly says, he can feel the wanted in his face but he can also feel his hands trembling as he speaks his truth.
Robby and Jack seem to dissociate after that statement. It feels like all of their memories spanning from the last 7 months are flickering right before their very eyes. Dennis who smiles politely, who laughs as if restrained and practiced, who says yes in no matter what they order him to do without a single moment of hesitation, who looked at them and waiting for his orders as if he didn’t have a mind of his own, who looked sad whenever he would put his clothes back on and be silent during the drive back to his apartment; the perfect doll. The perfect doll that Jack and Robby had broken and they don’t know how to fix it.
Robby groans and sits on the arm rest of the couch as he bites his lip in contemplation. He sees Jack fiddling with his fingers with empty eyes staring into the empty corner of the living room of Dennis’ apartment. He looks at Dennis who continues to smoke the pink vape in his hands as if he’s being grounded with it, puffing more and more as if the smoke will save him from the situation that he’s drowning in.
”You’re the first person we slept with,” Robby says and Dennis’ eyes snapped towards him very fast. Robby smiles sadly and maneuvers himself to sit beside Jack who sighed silently in relief at how grounding Robby’s presence is. “We don’t just take a student every few months to our bed. We’ve been together for decades and this talk about adding you into the mix spanned ever since your first shift. We were hooked, we didn’t know what to do but we wanted you. We didn’t realize that, we’ve been doing it wrong the entire time.” Robby takes Jack’s hand in his and intertwines it, gripping it tightly.
“We’re old men, Dennis,” Jack continued for Robby and thinned his lips, “We have routines. I go to jogs before my shifts, Robby sleeps in as much as possible. I get phantom limb pains, nightmares, pains in my stump, bad days, all of it sometimes. Robby cracks his hips, his back and his knees more often. The idea of a good date for us is just at home, trying recipes in cookbooks sometimes or most of the time just cooking what we know how to cook. Sometimes we don’t clean as much but we try with our schedules, we like beer and game nights with hockey or basketball on the television. We’re old men and you don’t deserve to be tied down to us just because of us. We also want you to have a life.”
Jack has a small smile on his lips as he continues to recount as much as possible of his days with Robby and he also sees a small smile on Robby’s lips as Jack speaks, licking his lips as he tries to choke down a sob and fix the cracks in his voice, “I—we, we can admit that we have a fault in this about not talking about this to you and going about this all wrong. We want you in our lives and not just the 3rd in the relationship just because you’re young and fun, this isn’t a mid life crisis for the both of us. We want you, we—we love you, Dennis Whitaker. We want you to have a meaningful part of this relationship and we will always be on your side.” Jack is heavily crying as he continues to be vulnerable to Dennis who stands in shock across him, feeling like the ground is crumbling beneath his feet at the admission.
“You’ll have us as you wish, no matter what, even if you don’t want to. We’ll be here, for you,” Robby smiles sadly at Dennis who continues to stand in front of the married couple. Robby now has his arm around Jack’s shoulder as he comforts his husband who is hiding his face in the crook of Robby’s shoulder.
Jack never liked big emotions. Dennis had a suspicion about it. As much as he stares intensely especially in intimate moments, Dennis can feel Jack’s face in the crook of his neck, always hiding in his curls, or behind at the span of his back. He sees it regularly when Jack tends to hide his face in Robby’s shoulder immediately and Dennis knows it must have been a hard shift. Jack is a bit of a hypocrite if Dennis wants to say, but it was endearing. Unable to confront his own feelings with something so he resorts to hiding but still seeking the comfort of his husband.
Robby also never liked big emotions. Dennis also had a suspicion towards it. Robby likes his rough nights to be quiet and Jack seems to understand it. Though he suspects that sometimes Jack likes to talk his heart out but he thinks he’s helping and he actually does, Robby just sometimes likes the quiet better to process the day that just happened. Dennis knows that sometimes at the end of the day, Robby tends to shut down and be a little words less or snaps less with heat. And when Jack comes by for him, he lights up and now has a little pep in his step even if it’s so subtle, you won’t know unless you actually see it.
“Baby, you doing okay?” Dennis peeks his eye open as he settles in the warm bathtub and Dennis hums. He looks at Jack and Robby, already sporting their boxers as they cleaned him up and Dennis is still relaxing, naked as he can be, soaking in the soothing lavender soap into his skin and senses. “Sorry, was tonight a little rough?” Jack sheepishly smiled and laughed when Dennis splashes a small amount of water at his direction. Dennis laughs quietly and he can hear Robby laughing loudly, a strong contrast to his.
“No dinner, and just straight to sex, and double penetration. What were the two of you thinking?” Dennis sternly said with no heat, but there is a hint of teasing in his voice. “I’m fine but you are going to carry me because I cannot feel my hips and my legs.” Dennis said and Robby smiles at him.
“Not really an issue,” Robby says and sits down on the bathroom floor with a groan, not minding the cold tiles against his bare thighs. Robby grabs one of Dennis’ hand which is hanging freely, into his grasp and kissing the soft knuckles. Dennis smiles at the feeling of his rough beard against his hand and lets Robby press little kisses over his hand and lightly caressing using his thumb. It was as if Dennis can feel every callous and roughness of the chief attending’s skin against his own and it makes him shiver.
What does make him shiver is the grin on the chief attending, staring straight into Dennis’ eyes as if he’s a love sick fool with a love sick grin. Never taking his eyes off of Dennis despite him not going anywhere since he’s naked in the bathtub. “You have a staring problem, Robby. Stop that.” Dennis lightly laughs as he leans his head back into the cold linoleum of the bathtub.
“You’re very pretty,” Robby suddenly blurts out and Dennis snorted, not quite believing him and his words. Jack is also sporting the same love sick fool expression and smile as he watches this exchange between Robby and Dennis. “What, you don’t believe us when we call you pretty?”
“I’m pretty sure that word should not apply to me. For example, I am a man,” Dennis gestures downwards and Jack laughs out loud. “What? Now you’re laughing at me? You broke my ass!” Dennis said and laughs with them, their laughter infectious and it is a small window of vulnerability that Dennis will allow himself.
“You’re in the new generation, Whitaker. You should know that pretty can be applied to both women and men alike,” Jack teases and Dennis rolls his eyes playfully. Robby laughs at this exchange, still holding Dennis’ hand and softly caressing the knuckles lovingly but also pick at his fingers playfully. It gives Dennis a memory of how Jack would play and caress Robby’s hand which is always situated in his thigh whenever the chief attending drives. Dennis doesn’t bother to think further into it nor does he think of withdrawing his hand.
“How woke of you, Dr. Abbot,” Dennis sheepishly smiles as he turns his head towards Jack who huffs out a smile. Jack then doesn’t comment any further and simply also sits down on the floor, just beside the tub and hiding his face in Dennis’ wet curls, inhaling deeply as he registers the familiar lavender of their home is now also etched into the very skin and hair of the student.
Jack stays there, planting soft kisses in his hair and sometimes running his rough hands through it while Robby stays on the other end, still admiring Dennis on the tub who is slowly but surely drifting off to sleep as his body relaxes to its maximum capacity due to the warm water and the soothing scent of lavender. Robby continues with soft kisses on his hand, caressing, never doing much, never saying anything. The last thing Dennis remembers of that night is the silence, the lavender inhibiting his senses and digging into his skin, forcing itself to be a part of Dennis, for this life to be a part of him.
And Dennis doesn’t know if he’ll allow it, evidenced by how he leaves at 3 in the morning, still smelling of lavender but the cold winds that harshly brushes against his figure forcefully remove that scent away from Dennis until he goes home into the comfort of his empty bed.
Dennis licks his lips as the memory comes up in his mind, he stands perfectly still as he watches the two men crying and clinging to each other as if begging for his love to save them. Did they want him too much—love him too much that they would do this scene right in front of Dennis? As if Dennis is their salvation and will heal them of their wrong doings.
Dennis wills himself to move, wills his legs to start walking to the two men as if he has a life of his own, no longer the perfect doll as he controls what he wants and what he gets. Dennis quietly sits in the coffee table and the clinking of the pink vape onto wood is the one that snaps the two men of their feelings. They looked at Dennis and he smiled sadly at them. Dennis clears his throat to make sure a sob doesn’t come out or his voice doesn’t crack, he needs to have his ground instead of letting Robby and Jack put it there for him.
“I thought at least warming your bed was the most I can have,” Dennis starts and Jack and Robby turn their attention to him. Dennis’ heart clenches at the sight of their swollen and red rimmed eyes and the damp cheeks which seem to glisten in the light. “I first thought that it was because I’m young, naive, haven’t had a serious relationship ever and only resort to one night stands and hook ups that maybe the way I feel about you two is something like that too. We did it the first time and I didn’t want to go home, the first time in my life that I didn’t want to go home after sex. I’m young and naive but I’m not stupid,” Dennis laughs as he admits this, voice now cracking and he can’t do anything about it but lets it crack, lets the tears flow down, lets his voice be heard and his heart be open.
“You both are the greatest love story there is and it might not be pretty but it is, steady. What love should be in the hard and easy times. I’m not sure if I fit into it because, I’m new, eager, just in a whole different league compared to the both of you. You, had all of these years together and I’m…new. New isn’t necessarily always better, you know?” Dennis says with a small smile, powering through the tears and the sobs even if it escapes his being easier than Dennis wanted to. “I’ll have you in any way possible. The routines, the nights in the brownstone, not going out if you don’t want to, the good and the bad, all of it. I am all in and you don’t get to decide for me in the future,” Dennis sternly says as his trembling hands hover over the clasped hands of his attendings.
Robby takes the moment to unclasp his hand and reaches out to grab Dennis’ hand, covering it with his and Jack follows without time wasted. Dennis can feel Robby’s lips on top of his, kissing it firmly as if he’s now allowed to showcase the love he’s been hiding all of these months. Jack, on the other hand, is gripping Dennis’ hand so tight, as if he’s afraid that Dennis will let go if his grip loosens. Dennis’ hand stills there, not moving and he just lets his skin be marred with the warmth that he has been used to for the past 7 months, only now does it mean something.
”Dennis,” Jack starts as he still has tears building up in his eyes, “I fell in love the moment you spent 3 hours comforting a hurt child during your first time in the night shift. You were tired, didn’t have enough time to fix your schedules, you were sleep deprived but you still went inside the room and made sure she wasn’t alone. When you left that room because her mom arrived, you made me a cup of coffee from the break room because you noticed that I needed it. How selfless you are, so kind, so gentle, so beautiful, like the sun. What a shame we never bought you outside of the night,” Jack quietly says in his piece, admitting his feelings out in the open.
Jack had always admired Dennis, this man who was so bright like the sun and knowing that they have been using him like a god damn doll for the past 7 months has his chest clenching so tightly, he’s not sure if he’s going to make it out alive. He’s not sure if his soul can take the guilt of not being able to chase after Dennis, the idea of being the reason why Dennis can’t feel safe in their comfort makes him want to fall in his knees and ask for forgiveness. Jack has never been vulnerable before if it’s not with Robby and this was new territory with him because he can’t stop himself.
Robby takes the hand that he’s holding and places a kiss on both Jack and Dennis, at the back of their hands and takes a deep breath, “I fell for you the moment you sat beside me during Pittfest. It was the first time in a long time that I believe that someone can save me other than Jack. I fell in love with your smile, it’s so bright that I actually believe the sun is inside the emergency room and not outside, where I can never witness it shine so brightly. But you, my love, you will always be my—our sun. How much we love you is not something we can say but we can show you, so please, come home to us,” Robby stares at Dennis as he says every single word and Dennis feels like every ounce of burden in his shoulders is being lifted up.
Dennis looks at his hand that is tightly being grasped by his attending and he scoots closer, until he practically stands up and sits down on their laps. The attendings willingly accept him, making sure he is between the both of them and arms wrapped immediately around the student’s figure. Dennis wrapped his arms around both of their figures and just stayed there, not letting them see his ruined face but he felt Robby and Jack press kisses all over anyway. It makes him giggle against the sensation and it’s the first time a sound like that has been made during the night.
“Fuck,” Dennis curses and it makes the two men laugh, “This would have all been avoided if we just talked with each other.” Dennis looks at the two men who look at him with worry and regret in their eyes. He smiles at them and places a sweet peck in each of their lips.
”If we want to do this, we do it right,” Jack says and looks at the both of them, seemingly calm now. “We talk, always. No matter what, no assumptions, no running away, no nothing. We stay, with each other no matter what,” Jack pointedly looked at the two men who nodded.
“Always, never again,” Dennis says with a bright grin on his face. “I love you both, so much. Please know that,” Dennis admits and both men break into full wide grins. Robby kisses his forehead and Jack inhales again the new comfort scent of strawberries and vanilla. Jack can’t wait for that smell to radiate to their brownstone in the long run.
“I love you, Denny. Both of us are so sorry for what has happened,” Robby starts as his grin around Dennis’ waist tightens. “Please stay and we’ll make it up to you.”
“Oh, Michael,” Dennis tests it out and seeing the glistening tears of Robby and the in-depth crows feet etched into his skin becoming deeper, he continues his words. “The fact that you love me enough to stay is enough. This is all forgiven and you don’t have to make up to it. You’re here, with me, you’re okay. We’re okay,” Dennis comforts Robby as he lightly runs his fingers through the beard of the chief attending.
“We’re okay?” Jack asks, his insecurities still festering on the surface and Dennis nods.
“We’re okay, Jack. You’re okay, I’m here and you’re here now with me. It is more than okay,” Dennis wipes away the tear that flows down Jack’s cheek and kisses his cheek.
They stay like that for a few minutes in the silence and Dennis speaks up, “You said dinner earlier? Is it too late for that?” Dennis asks and flushes in embarrassment when he hears his stomach grumbling.
“We can put on some steaks at home. With a few sides already ready. Might take less than 20 minutes,” Robby huskily says, his voice now betraying the tiredness of the night. “We can go now if you want, with us.” Robby says and Dennis smiles.
“I’d love that.”
🚭
It takes exactly less than 10 minutes for Dennis to get into comfortable clothing, making sure to wear Robby’s sweater that he once took home with him but never returned. The wide grin of Robby was worth it as he spent almost forever kissing Dennis and holding him tight before they drove away to their brownstone, their home together for the 3 of them.
Dennis willingly leaves his cigarette pack and vape in the comfort of his home. No, actually, he threw away the cigarette pack in his trash before leaving his room, happily becoming welcomed by his two lovers, as he stepped out of the room. Jack kissing him deeply and Robby holding him tight, kissing him right after Jack finishes with his turn.
“Make yourself at home,” Jack winks at him and places his coat by the closet. Dennis does the same as well as Robby. Dennis does make himself at home.
Dennis happily prepares the sides for the steak while Jack and Robby proceed to make sure that the steaks were well cooked. Robby had bought out an expensive wine for the occasion and watches with a fond expression when he sees Jack and Dennis side by side in front of the stove as they cook. Robby simply stands by the doorway as Dennis asks Jack how they like their steaks.
“We both like it medium rare. How about you?” Jack asks and Dennis hums.
“We didn’t really do temperatures much back at Nebraska. I think Mom just cooked it, just not raw and not overcooked,” Dennis shyly admits and Jack laughs, wrapping his arm around Dennis’ waist and keeping him closer to his side.
“You wanna try medium rare, baby? Then tell us how you think,” Jack asks and Dennis nods with a giddy smile on his face. Robby smiles too when he immediately sees the bright smile of his student.
Robby decides to come closer to them and kisses Dennis in the forehead who seems to have a permanent smile on his face, now genuine instead of the always small and practiced smile that he used to show prior to this night. Robby wants to smack both of his and Jack’s heads for not being able to notice it immediately. “We also have a cheesecake delivered earlier. It’s in the freezer. Sorry, we’re not big bakers.” Robby says, albeit a bit shy for admitting one flaw of theirs and Dennis laughs.
“Perfect that I’m here then because I’m a big baker,” Dennis said with a flush on his face. Jack and Robby can feel their hearts skip a beat. Their perfect little piece that fits into their puzzle with no effort whatsoever. It was like the universe gave them Dennis Whitaker to make themselves whole.
“Robby likes shortbread cookies and I like a classic chocolate chip cookie,” Jack says with a smile and Dennis, if even possible, smiles wider.
“Lucky you, those are my specialties growing up,” Dennis winks at them as he takes the sides off off heat and transfers them to a glass bowl to be presented in the dining table. “The family recipe is practically ingrained in my brain.” Dennis says before walking away to the dining table.
“Holy fuck, he was made for us,” Jack says and Robby wraps his arms around his waist, giving his nape a little sweet kiss. “Fuck, we’re never letting him go,” Jack warns him and Robby lets out a genuine laugh.
“As if we had any plans prior before, babe,” Robby places another kiss before pulling away and transfering the wine to glasses and setting them up on the table.
It took a few more minutes for Jack to join them, 3 plates with a steak each. Jack sets all the plates down and they start eating. Their conversations are lighter, and Dennis is not faking every single interaction with his lovers. The bright smile and laugh which makes him throw his head back at the force of it just makes Robby and Jack realize how much he has been holding back on them the past 7 months.
After eating dinner and the cheesecake, Dennis offers to clean up. Jack and Robby agree but they don’t leave his side. Jack and Robby take turns in drying or helping Dennis rinse and soap the used dishes and utensils. Only now does Robby and Jack appreciate how beautiful Dennis is in the moonlight and how gentle he looks. God, they can’t wait to see him under the sun. They just realized how they have never seen Dennis under the rays of the sun.
“All done!” Dennis smiles as he puts down the last dish that was wiped clean and he yelps when he feels hands steady him, making him pressed against the counter and he sees Robby with a teasing smile on his face. Dennis tilts his head in confusion.
“If you don’t want to do anything tonight, that’s fine,” Robby says, now in a serious tone and Dennis takes a deep breath. Dennis looks at Jack who gives him a comforting smile.
Dennis just wraps his arms around Robby and kisses the corner of the chief attending’s mouth, smiling, “I’m fine with it, please, take me to bed,” Dennis whines and he feels Jack’s hand that was rested on his hip tightened. “But, please be gentle with me.” Dennis can’t handle being rough if they’re going to have sex. He needs to feel their love, their gentleness in his skin.
Robby kisses his forehead and Jack kisses his neck, “Anything for you, baby. We’ve got you.”
They never were rough that night. Dennis spent each moment overwhelmed but instead of the feeling of becoming their perfect doll, he felt like he’s an equal to them now, their lover, their boyfriend, their everything. Robby and Jack were gentle with their touches and their kisses, always making Dennis putty in their hands and he just lays there, pliant all for them to take willingly and all for them to love unconditionally.
“God, you’re so pretty, my love,” Jack moans against his ear as he thrusts in deeper to Robby while Dennis is seated on Robby’s lap, Robby inside him. Dennis leans backward and Jack catches him, muttering sweet words in his ear which makes him moan. “My love, are you okay? Doing so good for us.”
“Yes—yes, please, move,” Dennis whimpers and he continues to bounce up and down on Robby’s lap who groans at the double stimulation that he’s feeling. Robby has his hands on Dennis’ thigh and lovingly caresses it, grounding the student easily in their grasp. Robby lets himself be handled as Jack’s thrusts are enough to meet Dennis halfway, making the two moan out loud.
“Fuck, you should see him in this view, Jack. So beautiful,” Robby groans and Jack smirks behind Dennis, making intense eye contact with Robby who flushes deeper in red. “Jack, please—! Shit!” Jack laughs as he hits Robby’s prostate easily.
“I’m, close! Please—!” Dennis arches his back as he continues to ride Robby, pace now frantic but a little slower. Robby groans as he sits up and now meets both thrusts of the men which made them share a moan. Dennis wraps his arms around Robby’s neck and presses his lips, inducing a sloppy make out session where Dennis, feeling floaty, lets his moans, whines, and whimpers be swallowed by his chief attending.
“Come for us, baby. Come on, I’m close as well,” Robby groans and he looks at Jack who’s pace is also frantic, “Come with us, together, baby. Come on,” Robby moans when he feels warm inside of him, and Jack stilling. The sensation makes him cum inside Dennis. Jack stops touching Dennis’ dick when he feels the warm cum on his hand.
“I love you both, so much,” Dennis cries into Robby’s shoulder and both attendings just hold their boy tightly and whispering sweet nothings in his ear, sweet nothings that are actually something and it makes Dennis feel whole again.
🚭
Robby wakes up first when he feels the rays of the sun hitting his face. He groans quietly and looks beside him. He smiles and just looks at Dennis between Jack and him. But he takes a deep breath once he actually processes the sight before him.
Robby nudges Jack softly and since the night shift attending is actually a light sleeper, he gets up immediately. Robby presses a finger in his mouth, signaling his husband to stay quiet and then points to the boy in between of them, still fast asleep.
Dennis, still asleep and letting out soft snores, his curls are all messy from sleep but the bite marks on his collarbone and chest is a clear evidence of their passionate moment last night. And yet here he was, bathed directly in the sunshine and doesn’t even wake up as if he’s so used to it.
Both attendings just stare lovingly at their lover who is peacefully asleep in their bed, in their arms, in their intimate spaces, in the presence of their love. Their lover who has never left in the middle of the night and makes himself cold as he saves himself, now he’s warm and very well loved by Robby and Jack who will make sure that it stays that way in the long run, possibly forever.
They continue staring at Dennis as if star struck by his presence and it’s all very real. Both of them getting emotional at how real this is, that he’s here and they didn’t spend all night cleaning him up and taking him home. He stayed, in their brownstone, in their home that they will build yet again from the ground up with Dennis in the mix and they’re not even bothered by it. They’re actually buzzing in excitement at the prospect of Dennis becoming a permanent member of their relationship.
And as they stare at Dennis, they can only think of one thing,
How evangelical.
