Chapter Text
The doors to Velvette's studio swung open with a loud crash as Valentino stormed into the room, his face etched with fury. His sudden presence in the studio created worried gasps from those working in the room and was soon followed by the sound of broken wood as chairs were thrown across the room.
Velvette didn't even turn around from where she was stood at her desk, flicking through design sketches. Her face contorted in disgust as each design that her employees had submitted looked worse than the last.
It wasn't until she heard the sound of glass breaking that she sighed heavily, threw the designs into the bin and turned around to watch Valentino throw another glass at the wall.
Her employees stared at her in fear, unsure of whether it was worse to stay or run. Velvette gave a quick swish of her hand and the employees took that as a sign to get out as quickly as possible, lest they lose a limb to Valentino's rage like some of the other girls did.
When the room had cleared, Velvette took her chance to walk towards the moth demon and removed the remaining glasses from the side table before he was able to pick up another one.
'What's wrong now?' Velvette asked, sounding bored of the tirade.
Valentino threw two of his hands in the air in anger, whilst a third held his cigarette, 'It's all these goddamn meetings! I just got back from that fucker Zestial and do you know what he had the audacity to say to me!? He called me a foolish buffoon to even consider asking him for support again, even without Vox being in charge.'
At the mention of Vox, Velvette couldn't help but look over to the corner of her studio where he was currently mounted onto the wall, his screen black except for the spinning wheel in the centre as he updated.
'I mean it was optimistic that the old twat would help us, but at least we know where he stands.' Velvette reasoned.
Valentino didn't pay her words any attention however and instead was pacing back and forth taking long drags of his cigarette.
'Me? A foolish buffoon? Bitch I ain't even a monkey, I'm a moth.' Valentino held out his wings to emphasise his point.
Velvette could only slowly blink at that.
'Uh-huh. Whatever you say.' She wasn't even going to attempt to pick at that logic.
'I'm sick of trying to suck up to these pricks.' Valention huffed as he slumped down onto the only remaining chair left in the room, crossing his arms tightly like an angry toddler.
Velvette rolled her eyes again and stood in front of the moth demon.
'Look you're the face of the Vees now Val, so you can't get all pissy when you need to step up to the job!' Velvette argued, putting her hands on her hips.
Valentino stared up at the fashion designer and looked like he was about to start ranting again but he decided against it after Velvette gave him a look that meant she wasn't to be trifled with.
'But there's just so many meetings scheduled!' Valentino whined, his anger now being replaced with annoyance.
He pulled out a large piece of paper from his pocket, the list of names written upon it never seeming to end.
'Like why do we even need any of these bitches anyway.' Valentino said, squinting slightly as he glanced over the names.
Velvette took the paper from him and rolled it up before lightly tapping the demon on his head with it as she spoke, 'Those bitches have power and we need all the support we can get after Vox's little stunt nearly bloody killed us all.'
'Fineeeee.' Valentino whined again as he swatted away Velvette's hand before the paper hit him again.
Velvette smirked before she began to unfurl the paper.
Her eyes skimmed over the crossed out list of names of people that already met with before she came to the uncrossed section. The next name on the list made her shiver in delight a little as she read it.
'Actually Val, you take a break. I'll deal this next one.' Velvette suggested, sounding nonchalant.
Valentino looked confused for a moment,'But you literally just said I'm the face of the Vees? And I need to go.'
'And as your PR manager, I said I'll deal it!' Velvette replied sharply.
Valentino held his hands up in surrender, 'Okay! Okay! But you're giving me whiplash here just so you know, babydoll.'
Valentino stood up from the chair and in one fluid motion snatched the paper back from Velvette who tried to grab it back.
'Oh fuck you.' Velvette retorted as Valentino held the paper above her head.
She gave him a swift kick in the shin for that, causing him to hiss slightly in pain but he didn't bring his arm down.
Valentino squinted at the list and after a few seconds the words began to focus causing him to let out a chuckle.
'Ohhhhh, now it makes sense.' Valentino laughed.
'What?' Now it was Velvette's turn to cross her arms.
Valentino pointed at the next name on the list as he held it towards Velvette's face.
'The meeting's with that cute, little succubus singer.' Valentino tapped the paper for emphasis.
'Your point?' Velvette huffed as she tried to ignore the warm feeling of her ears as they began to turn red.
'If you wanted to meet Verosika Mayday, you only needed to say dear.' Valentino smirked.
Velvette turned around and went back over to her desk, 'I'm only going so you don't have another pissy-fit and fuck up one of my models again.'
Valentino stood behind her, placing his hands on her shoulders and leaned in close as she tidied up her desk.
'Uh-huh? So it's got nothing to do with the fact she's hot?' Valentino spoke through a grin.
Velvette tried to keep her face composed as she finished what she was doing before turning her head toward him.
'I hadn't noticed cause unlike you I try and think with the head up here.' She poked him right between his antennae.
'Don't you have posters of her in your room?' Valentino asked, sure that he'd seen them when they had their last sleepover.
'She's a good singer. I appreciate talent when I see it.' Velvette knew that much was true at least.
'I'm sure she's got a couple other things you appreciate as well.' Valentino laughed as he made a crude gesture towards her chest.
Velvette smiled fakely before sharply tugging down at the gold chain that adorned the moth's own chest causing him to yelp in pain before she began to walk away.
Valentino winced a little, rubbing at his chest before speaking, 'I don't blame you for... appreciating her. I just think you need to be more honest with yourself about why you want to go. I never see that side of you dear.'
Velvette sighed loudly as she turned to face him again, 'And what side would that be?'
Valentino flashed a wide grin, his gold tooth catching the light
'The horny side of course.'
Velvette tried to ignore the fact that her ears were warming again as she rolled her eyes, 'Fine, she's hot as fuck. Happy?'
'Si babydoll.' Valentino chuckled as he deeply inhaled his cigarette and looked to be in thought.
'Now the real question is, what are you going to do about it when you meet her?' Valentino exhaled, a large plume of smoke rising to the ceiling.
'It's a work meeting and if we get her on board then we can be a sponsor for her next tour. She's on top of all the Voxify charts so she can bring in a lot of support for us.' Velvette explained, knowing that gaining support right now was vital.
Valentino nodded, a bemused look on his face, 'Sure... but is that the only thing you want her to be the top of?'
Velvette didn't even know how to process that thought, even though she had imagined it countless times late at night in her bedroom over the years.
'I'm leaving.' Velvette spoke bluntly, heading for the elevator.
'Don't do anything I wouldn't do!' Valentino's voice rang out as Velvette pressed the button for the reception.
'That doesn't narrow down much does it?' Velvette yelled back as the doors began to close.
'Exactly muñeca.' Valentino laughed as the doors completely closed and Velvette was left with the quiet whir of the elevator descending.
Velvette could only close her eyes and tilted her head towards the elevator's ceiling as her conversation with her best friend replayed in her head along with less than safe-for-work thoughts about a certain popstar.
'Fuck.'
The elevator dinged as it reached the reception of the tower and the doors slid open.
Velvette knew there was no point in wasting any more time having a gay panic over the situation she had gotten herself into so quickly made her way to the limousine parked outside the tower's front door.
Velvette got into the limo and made herself comfy for a moment before barking orders to the driver who was currently scrolling on his phone,
'Take me to VoxRecords and make it quick.'
The driver snapped back to reality quickly as he suddenly realised he was no longer alone and grumbled a quick 'yes Miss Velvette' before flooring it down the road.
Usually Velvette didn't have the patience for such ignorance over her presence because how could anyone not realise that hells hottest overlord was in the company? But for once her mind was on other things and it didn't matter.
All that mattered right now was for the meeting to go well and for the Vees to regain some of their lost power.
That shouldn't be too hard right?
