Chapter Text
Bella always knew that she would meet the same death that the majority of demigods did. She just did not expect it to be so soon. The Cullens, Jessica called them. Children of Lamia, her mind screamed.
Oh Gods, She thought, chair screeching on the cafeteria floor. They were staring right at her. Bella threw a weak smile at the group of teenagers she was with and tried to walk away as calmly as she could, ignoring them as they asked where she was going. She did not need to attract more of the monsters’ attention.
Look at them. Are they watching? Her mind whispered. Bella refused to turn, knowing that if she looked back, they would realize she knew what they were. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
She had been lucky. She knew her scent was weak, the Satyrs at camp had told her so. What were the odds of this even happening? For monsters to be posing as high school students- for what? Fun?
Reaching her rusted pickup truck, she wrenched the door open and scrambled inside. Hands shaking, she shoved the key into the ignition, brown eyes glancing up through the windshield at sudden movement.
The youngest one, Edward, was standing just outside the doors of the building.
Bella gulped as he stared at her, the Mist around him started to clear. He was disgusting. His eyes were too big, too black, almost bulging from his skull. His neck seemed too long, his jaw clenching on and off as if it were about to unhinge and swallow her whole.
The truck roared to life, and Bella snapped out of her paralysis. She ripped out of the parking lot, not even wincing as the tires skidded on the cold ground. Her heart felt as though it was going to break her ribs and jump out of her chest.
“Mom, Mom, please!” Bella gasped. She could feel her throat tightening with panic. “I don’t want to die Mom, please help me!”
She didn’t even know who she was praying to. The road started to blur in her vision as she reached the intersection by the police station. Bella hadn’t even realized that she was trying to get to Charlie. Oh gods- Charlie. She couldn’t lead them to him.
Suddenly, as she passed the crossroads, Bella felt the truck tilt and lift as the wheels hit an icy patch. She yelped as she rolled with the truck, her chest bruising against the seat belt, the metal around her crunched and the air was knocked out of her lungs.
The truck slowed, and finally Bella was left laying sideways, suspended by the seat belt.
Janet Jackson's voice warbled through the somewhat broken radio and though she felt concussed, Bella found a bitter irony as Someone to Call my Lover played.
She peeled her eyes open and found herself blinking through blood. The truck was definitely not going to be back on the road again. “Sorry Janet.” She muttered.
Something is definitely broken, Bella thought. Groaning, She reached for her seat belt with a stiff arm and she winced, bracing for the short fall. She knew she had to get out of the wreck quickly- they could be here at any moment.
Bracing her feet against the headrests, She starts to climb through the broken driver's side window. Broken glass catches on her jeans, a shard breaking through and digging deep when she makes the quick motion to haul herself up.
A muffled sob breaks through her lips.
Finally out of the truck, she grips the cut, blood spilling over her fingers.
The wound quickly becomes irrelevant as Bella takes in her surroundings.
“oh.”
