All Of Me Changed Like Midnight Rain

Summary:

Mira and Abby mutually decide to keep their relationship a secret from their friends, which goes well for a couple of months.

Until Abby doesn't want to keep it a secret anymore.

Title from "Midnight Rain" by Taylor Swift

Set after "Maroon".

Notes:

Hi, friends!

I was going to post this earlier, but AO3's scheduled maintenance said "hold my beer". 😂😭

I have been on this high of writing out stories for Mira and Abby that I'm taking advantage of it for now. It's a lot of fun to come up with backstory on both of these characters, especially with Abby since he's only described as a smooth-voiced with abs.

This one-shot is set immediately after one of my earlier Mirabby one-shots "Maroon". I do recommend reading that one for better context, but either way these could be read as a standalone.

I hope you enjoy this one!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

A lot can happen in the span of 24 hours.

What was supposed to just be a movie night between two friends with mutual feelings for one another turned into a night full of passion.

Now, here they were, Mira and Abby laying on her couch after spending a day together exploring more into their newfound relationship and each other, now only covered by a blanket as they held each other close. She mewled like a cat whenever he ran his hand up and down her back, her eyes blinking slowly as she tried to fight sleep.

“So, you’re telling me you don’t want to tell anyone we’re dating yet?” Abby questions lowly.

“Yep,” Mira replied, enunciating the “p” with a “pop!” of her lips.

Abby frowned. “Why?”

She adjusts her position, laying both her arms on top of his chest, tilting her head to the side as she looks at him. “I just don’t want to make it a big deal, plus, I want you all to myself for a little while. Public displays of affection also make me uncomfortable,” she explains, slithering up slightly to kiss him on the lips.

Abby pulls her close, kissing her back, expelling a chuckle at that. “Can’t argue with that, babe,”

Mira cradles his jaw, perking up at the pet name with flushed cheeks, finding she rather liked it when he called her that. “This is my first serious relationship in a while, you know?”

“Really? What about all the dates you went on?” He asks.

“Don’t really count, plus, as a K-pop Idol it’s a slippery slope,” she traced her fingers along the patterns on his chest. “The last time I was in a relationship, my partner cheated on me. I rightfully kicked their ass and then cried about it after with Rumi and Zoey,” Mira reminisced, a pained smile on her lips as she remembered how much suffering she put that person in she thinks they couldn’t walk for a week.

“It was also somewhat of a huge scandal. I haven’t heard anything about them since Bobby took care of all the media.” She sighs.

If Abby didn’t put a pin in on not to mess with Mira, especially with their previous encounter as enemies, he should do that now.

“Well, I’m not going anywhere, I promise,” He tells her genuinely.

“You better not, or you’ll find yourself on the other end of my gok-do again,” she deadpans with a blank look on her face.

Abby gulped, laughing nervously. Her serious look turned into a smile as she guffawed at his expression.

“Relax, I’m joking, Abs.” She laid her head against the crook of his neck.

“I don’t want to lose what we have,” she mumbles.

Abby smiled, adjusting the blanket so it draped over the both of them, kissing her forehead. He knew he was going to be in a lot of pain in the morning, but it was worth it if it meant holding the woman he loved in his arms.

“Me too,”

It had been a few months since Mira and Abby had become a couple.

Sneaking around had become a routine; like a game of not getting caught by their friends, taking in what they knew about going around unnoticed by fans to heart.

But lately Abby had been tired of keeping it a secret, and he wanted to confess this to Mira. He was deeply in love with her, and he wanted those they both cared about to know as well.

It was only a matter of finding the right time to do so, which Abby had decided was that very moment.

He had made his way over to Mira’s place, a bouquet of her favourite flowers in hand, remembering how she mentioned it in passing. She opened the back door leading up to her apartment just for him, disguised in an oversized hoodie, a baseball cap and her glasses (which he loves seeing her wear), her eyes lighting up at the sight of him and what he brought.

“You remembered my favourite flowers; I’m warning you now that these are going to die after a week,” she tells him as she accepts them.

“I know, I just wanted to do something special for my girl.” He replies.

“You’re not supposed to agree,” Mira teases, rolling her eyes playfully while also hiding her blush behind the flowers. “But thank you.”

Once they are away from prying eyes and in the safety of her apartment, Mira sets the bouquet down so that she could initiate the first kiss. “I missed you today,” she whispers against his lips. Abby returns the favour, his hands immediately finding the back of her thighs as he easily scoops her up, hoisting her up and carrying her over to her kitchen counter. “I missed you, too.” His nose nuzzles against hers lovingly before capturing her lips with his own in another passionate kiss.

It’s not long until their clothes come off until they’re both naked, Abby on his knees while Mira sits naked on the counter, legs spread as he eats her out. Her hand grips his hair as she pulls him closer, grinding against his face as she moans out his name.

“Shit, I’m almost there-” Mira groans out, but before he lets her climax, he pulls away.

“What the hell?” She whines, but he silences it as he grabs her, setting her back down on the floor and turning until the front of her body faces the counter this time, rolling a condom on. Taking his cock in his hand, he teases her folds, as she was still somewhat sensitive from earlier, feeling her own hand in his in an attempt to get him to thrust into her, which he does after pressing a quick kiss to her shoulder.

Mira’s hands were braced on the count as Abby rams into her from behind, his lips on her neck as he leaves a mark. Her back arches, arms slinking around his neck as he goes deeper while he holds her close, hands tweaking her nipples as they sloppily kiss.

“A-Ah, f-fuck…Abby, right there.” She moans out when he hits a particular spot. He grins, going faster, panting, wanting Mira to feel good, his lips pressing kisses to her cheek, jaw, just wherever he could reach.

Mira lets out a whimper as her eyes screw shut, screaming his name out in pleasure, finally climaxing, which triggers him to do the same, bucking into her hips.

Abby pulls out slowly, the couple sliding down until they’re lying against her lower kitchen cupboards, exchanging gentle kisses, her back still pressed to his chest. Abby, with a wolfish grin, lets his hand slink down until he reaches her pussy, rubbing at her clit mid-kiss.

“Oh, shit,” Mira pants and allows it, spreading her legs open a little bit more for better access, grinding against his hand. She’s back to moaning obscenities mixed in with his name until her voice runs raw, nails scratching at his arms when his fingers come into play, going in and out of her, her own hand reaching behind him, stroking his member until they both climax together, Abby pulling his fingers away, sucking on each digit that was coated with her juices.

“Fuck, that’s hot,” Mira whimpers. Abby chuckles before kissing her again.

They take a moment to catch their breath before slowly getting up, cleaning up the mess they made and taking a shower.

“That was the best in a while,” Mira tells him afterward as they share a bottle of water between them, having changed and migrated onto her couch.

“Mhmmm,” Abby agrees as he takes a big swig.

“Don’t hog all of it,” Mira laughs as she takes the water bottle from him, taking a sip of her own.

Abby watches her. It was now or never to tell her how he felt.

“I want to tell the others,” Abby tells her suddenly.

Mira turns to look at him with a frown. “What?”

“I want to tell the others. About us, about our relationship. I think it’s time.” He repeats.

Mira sits quietly for a moment and he wonders if she heard him. “Babe?”

“Why?” She finally says.

Abby blinks, confused. “Why? Because I’m getting tired of sneaking around. It was fun the last few months just keeping this a secret between the two of us, but it’s starting to get harder to hide how much I feel about you to everyone else. I know how you feel about public displays of affection, and I know we’re famous, that’s a given, but I can always compromise with hand holding-”

“No.” Mira interrupts.

Abby paused. “No hand holding, or…”

“No. I don’t want to tell them. I like how things are right now, I like the privacy; I like having you to myself.” She says after a moment as she plays with the fabric of Abby’s shirt that she was currently wearing.

“Well, the thing is, I’m not some toy you can play with, there is plenty of me to go around,” he tries to joke with her, only to be met with a scowl on her end.

Oh, she was serious.

“I, uh, get keeping this a secret from our fans, but keeping this from our own friends who we consider family? Why are you so scared to tell people about us?”

Mira scoffs, “I’m not scared-”

“Are you ashamed of me?” He asks suddenly.

Mira’s head snaps to him, meeting his eyes, surprised that he raised his voice at her. “W-What, no. Abby, it’s not like that-”

“Did I do something wrong?” He shifts so that he kneels in front of her, holding her hands in his. “Whatever it is I did, I’m sorry,” He tells her.

“It’s not you, okay, It’s just, what if something happens and we break up? It would split the friend group in half.” she explains.

“That doesn’t make any sense. What difference would it make if say Rumi and Jinu broke up, or even Zoey and Mystery?”

“Goddamn it, Abby, That’s different! They actually love each other, and their relationships are perfect. Not everything has to be said out in the open, okay? Get that through that thick skull of yours.” Mira argues.

Silence fills the room at her confession, Abby feeling like he was going to be sick. Did she not feel the same way he did about her, after everything they had been through. Was the last couple of months a joke to her?

“Do you not love me? Am I just some fling?” He was too scared to ask this but he needed the truth.

“Abby, fuck, no you’re not a fling! I care about you, a lot.” Mira tried to reason, back pedalling on what she said last.

Abby’s face flinches, hurt by her words, slowly letting go of her hands.

Mira bit her lip, realizing that everything that came out of her mouth sounded worse each time to the point that she rambled. “Abby, no, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean that,” she whispers.

The ex-demon takes a deep breath, feeling hurt, used and betrayed. “For someone who is overly blunt and honest, you sure do have a way of making things hurt.” Abby tells her, eerily calm. “I don’t want to force you to do something you’re uncomfortable with, but I can’t keep hiding this anymore.” He tells her, dropping her hands and getting up to leave.

“W-Wait, Abby, where are you going?” Mira follows after him.

“Let me know when you change your mind,” he shuts the door behind him before she could get another word out.

Two weeks.

Two weeks and they hadn’t spoken to each other.

Abby attempts to go about his normal routine, but every time, his thoughts lingered to Mira and their fight.

Texting Mira on his end was futile, struggling to try and find the right words to say.

“I’m sorry, can we talk?” He’d type out first, but then delete it.

“I miss you,” Backspace.

“You’re on my mind a lot. Hope you’re doing well,” Backspace. That one didn’t sound right, almost sounding like they hadn’t seen each other in months, which it did feel like.

Varying messages with similar contexts keep getting typed out and erased more times than he could count. Was he too demanding in his request to tell their friends? Did she want to break up with him? Were they even broken up in the first place? Would calling her even work, or would she just ignore those as well?

Why hadn’t she responded? She would’ve been on top of it, but then again, he knew she struggled with her own feelings.

All of these questions circulated his brain to the point that it almost competed with when he used to hear Gwi-ma’s voice in his ear. Maybe he was going about this the wrong way, even their friends were starting to notice he was in some sort of slump. What sucked is that even if he wanted to tell them, he wanted to respect Mira’s wishes.

Speaking of, he couldn’t help but flip through her socials, seeing many professional pictures and videos of her. At least she was keeping herself busy.

Switching through pictures and videos of her saved on his phone, a sad smile graces his lips as he goes through each one; ones where she was in her element as a dancer, others where she gave him that rare loving smile. Others were slightly more intimate that were meant for just their eyes only.

Suddenly, his phone buzzes with a text. Was it Mira?

Unlocking his phone, he checks his notifications, heart pounding…

Only to find that he gets a text from Jinu inviting him over to his and Rumi’s home the following day to catch up with a potluck-style dinner. Since the couple had married two years prior and were currently expecting their first child, everyone had gone and did their own thing but were still close and kept in touch as best as they could.

Which meant Mira would most likely be there. He debates on whether or not to accept the invitation. Perhaps talking face to face could help things.

He types out a quick “sure,” and a thumbs up to his former bandmate and one of his best friends, his finger hovering also hovering to Mira’s contact before deciding to put his phone aside.

He knew things would be awkward, but for the sake of their somewhat secret relationship, if it was still alive at this point, he needed to be civil so as to not raise suspicion.

The day finally arrived. Abby made his way over to Rumi and Jinu’s with some homemade kimchi fried rice and bottles of Soju, taking deep breaths to calm his nerves. Everything will be fine, just as long as he doesn't break down and cry when he sees Mira.

Rumi greeted him at the door with a smile and a hug, cradling her baby bump while letting him in. Pretty much everyone had arrived, but his eyes scanned for one person, frowning when he didn’t see her.

“Mira’s just running late, she went to grab ice for the drinks.” Rumi explained as if to answer his question, with Jinu coming up from behind her, kissing her cheek and to take the tray and the drinks he brought from him.

“How did you…I wasn’t…” Abby tried to say, finally clearing his throat and accepting her answer. “Thanks,” he rubs his neck awkwardly

“It’s fine, I know you two have grown closer over the last couple of years,” she laughs it off. “The kimchi fried rice smells really good, by the way,” Rumi tells him, practically salivating. “Baby girl and I are excited to try it,”

As if on cue, Mira arrives, carrying two bags of ice.

“Sorry I’m late, some shithead cut me off,” Mira tells everyone with a laugh, only for her smile to fade upon seeing him, replaced with a look of indifference.

“Let me help,” Abby approaches her, but she bypasses him easily.

“I got it.” She tells him coldly, setting the bag on the kitchen counter, Abby quickly backing off, he only hoped the tension went unnoticed by everyone else.

Well, this was going to be a long night, at least he didn’t cry when he saw her.

Dinner goes off without a hitch as everyone helps themselves to some food. Abby eyes some of the japchae, reaching to put some on his plate, only his hand to brush with another person at the same time.

Abby and Mira’s eyes meet again, his face turning red slightly as he retracts his hand. “You first,” he insists.

“Thanks,” She mumbles, taking a little bit for herself.

“How are you doing-” He starts saying to her, but she walks away quickly before he can get an answer. Fuck, that didn’t work.

As the night went on, he couldn’t keep his eyes off of Mira.

She was laughing at something Zoey was saying, sipping her share of Soju from her glass, but he clocked how her laugh doesn’t meet her eyes.

Meanwhile, he knew Romance was trying to tell him something about his recent trip abroad, but his eyes always lingered to where she stood with her two best friends and Bobby, their manager and father figure.

“Oi,” Romance snaps his fingers in front of Abby’s face. “Are you okay?”

“Y-Yeah, I’m fine,” Abby mumbles, looking at the drink in his glass, trying to act nonchalant.

“Really, because you keep looking at Mira,” Romance says matter of factly. “Did something happen between you?”

“Yes…No, I don’t know anymore,” Abby sighs. “We had a falling out, and now she won’t talk to me,”

Romance nods. “I see, you still like her after all these years, huh? You should tell her,”

Oh, if only he knew.

“Everyone can see how you like her. Usually something is wrong when you don’t effortlessly flirt with her,” Romance pats his back good-naturedly.

“Go talk to her.” He encouraged him, eyes darting to his glass. “Liquid courage,” he adds, his finger tapping his glass. Abby looks down at his drink before downing the rest of it. He was going to talk to Mira and set his feelings straight once and for all.

Mira’s eyes meet him from across the room, lingering. It was now or never as he hands his now finished glass to Romance before he walks over to her.

“Sorry to interrupt, but Mira, can we talk?” Abby asks.

“I’m good,” Mira quipped, taking a swig of her drink. “Rumi was just telling us this really fascinating story about how the baby keeps her up at night,” She adds.

“Ah, my story is not that interesting. Oh, I think Jinu is calling me,” Rumi shrugs as she walks over to her husband.

“Yeah, I think Mystery needs me too. Bye~” Zoey adds on, a smirk on her lips as she practically skips over to her husband while Bobby had excused himself to get some dessert in the meantime.

It was now just the two of them.

“Hi,” Abby greets.

Mira harrumphs, looking away from him. He sighs, taking her hand and going somewhere more private, which happened to be the backyard porch of Rumi and Jinu’s home.

“What the hell, Abby! You can’t just do that-” Mira growled.

“I know! I know. But I wanted to talk without any prying eyes or anyone hearing us.” Abby explains.

“I can still leave,” Mira threatens.

“I know, but hear me out. 1 minute of your time, please.” He begs. Mira crosses her arms over her chest, before relenting. “Fine. 59…58…” She mumbles a countdown under her breath.

“I’m sorry about what happened between us that night. I shouldn’t have forced you to want to tell our friends about us,” Abby starts.

“Yeah, you’re right, you shouldn’t have. 45…44…” She bites back. Goddamn it, why did he fall in love with such an infuriating woman?

“But I think you’re being selfish about wanting to keep us a secret.” Abby tells her firmly.

Mira stops counting down, eyes wide before they burn with fury.

“I’m the one being selfish? Says the one who wants to expose it.” Mira hissed.

“You make it sound like I’m some terrible person that you shouldn’t be around,” Abby scoffs.

“Well, you were a demon,” Mira counters.

“I’m not anymore, aren’t I?” Abby asserts. “You can’t keep bringing that up to get your way, you know,”

“I liked what we had going, and then you had to mess things up by saying we should tell everyone else.” Mira accuses.

“What’s so wrong with wanting to tell our friends?” Abby asks. “Mira, I don’t understand why that’s such a big issue. I trust them, you trust them, we know they’re not going to say anything about us, nor would they judge.”

“You want to know why? It’s because I’m scared!” Mira finally admits.

“Why are you scared-”

“BECAUSE I LOVE YOU, YOU DUMMY. And I don’t want to lose you, I just can’t.” Mira raised her voice, eyes glassy with tears. “There, is that what you wanted to hear?” Her voice drops to a hoarse whisper, breath shaky. Abby’s eyes widened at her confession. Slowly, he raises his hand to cup her cheek and she lets him as she leans into his touch before he pulls her into a hug, her face buried in his chest.

“I love you, too, and I’m not going anywhere, okay? I’d hate to lose you.” Abby confesses.

“Wow, it feels good to say it out loud, huh?”

“Don’t push it,” Mira mumbles, a smile on her lips. He tucks a piece of her hair behind her ear, leaning down slightly.

“May I kiss-” before he could finish, Mira cups his face and kisses him hard, Abby lifting her up slightly as she squeals against his lips, but he holds her tightly so that she doesn’t fall, her fingers burying themselves in his hair. He’s happy they made up as he pulls away, their breaths mingling, noses brushing against each other as he sets her down, but they still hold each other close.

“Finally!” A voice cries out. The couple broke from their happy little bubble to see they had an audience.

“We have been waiting for years for you to confess your feelings for each other!” Zoey practically bounces over to the happy couple, pulling them both in for a bear hug.

“About that, actually,” Abby begins, looking at Mira, his arms around her waist. “You see…”

“Abby and I had been dating this whole time, for the last couple of months.” Mira is the one to admit it, blushing hard.

There was a pause that lingered too long as everyone tried to process the news.

“Wait, what?”
