Kitsunes are mythical Japanese trickster foxes that come all packaged with magic.
Each Kitsune starts with one tail, then slowly builds up, gaining a Tail after every century.
With each tail, a Kitsune usually gains another special ability, like Shapeshifting (Kitsunetsuki) or Fox-fire (Kitsunebi).
A Kitsune or Nogitsune's soul is contained within its Star Ball, or Hoshi no Tama.
A Zenko Kitsune is a Kitsune that aims to accomplish good deeds only, and is incredibly loyal, willing to die for their loved ones.
A Nogitsune, however, is the extreme opposite of the Zenko subspecies.
Weaknesses of a Kitsune (including Nogitsunes):
1. Pure iron burns the skin/fur of Kitsunes.
2. They hate dogs, and dogs hate them back.
3. They often struggle shifting all of their tails.
4. If they regretted an action they took, they would instantly perish (Sin of Regret).
5. If their Star Ball, or Hoshi no Tama is destroyed, that is the same as their soul being destroyed, and thus they would too.
Fun facts:
A Kitsune's fur gradually changes to white or gold over time, but Nogitsune's fur usually remains at black, blue or purple.
Every Kitsune has a subspecies of power that they get in their 3rd tail, for example Wind, Fire, Earth. But all Nogitsunes have the same power: Darkness (Kukan), the manipulation of Voids and Shadows.
Important fact you'll need to know: (special in my AU here!!)
Each Kitsune, Nogitsune or not, has only one true love, their Partner. It is only with their Partner that they can reproduce, and live a happy life.
If a Kitsune commits their life to another, is wed to another, or somehow reproduces with another, bad luck, the worst luck, would befall them and their partner.
It usually ends in spiritual death.
