writing prompt answer

Summary:

I saw this prompt in a prompt book, like a few years ago now, and I had to write it out. Idk if I did it justice, or if I did my idea justice, but I tried. I might make A prequel?

Notes:

Prompt: write a love story that ends badly

I wrote this in like, half an hour. There's an explanation at the bottom if something is unclear.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

We were moving. Fast. The stars were above us even though we couldn't see them. Lights next to us streaking as we drive. The sun is ahead of us, it's light casting a long shadow behind us. We keep going.
It's night now. We have stopped once for gas. We keep going. Running away is the fun part, of course. We didn't start like this though.
We used to be daylight friends. We were together on the way to school, on the way home, and the traffic jams, oh! The traffic jams! Music the whole way, making even red lights fun. Then we discovered the dark. It was a whole new world bright lights, the red-blue of cops and gilded windows. A world we knew of, but had yet to discover for ourselves. We had a name, and the pair that we were! We never missed, never slowed down, we were unstoppable. We had it all. All the time in the world, or so we thought.
We are moving again. Slower now though. Earlier, yesterday? I'm not sure. There was an incident. We were racing again. There was a red-blue light, sirens, all of it.. it was a bust. A bust! But... No plates, no id, and a quiet engine, and we move back to the daylight. A quick stop, a socket, a zipper, and we were off.
The handles jerk. Something hit him. There's something warm on my handles. We are moving still, when did we speed up? We know these hills. They're slick, even in the summer. We keep going. There's no one in pursuit, and we are alone. We turn, and we skid.
Tomorrow morning, a reporter will find a guardrail with a red mark, and investigate. Tomorrow, he will call in a biker with no plates, and a crumpled bike. Tomorrow night, a man will be missed, and there will be a quiet moment for him. His mother will be in an empty house again, and it will stay that way. But tonight?

We are fast, and golden, and never slowing down.

(Biker and others race, cops find out, bust the race, rider gets shot on his bike, makes it almost home, crashes after blacking out from blood loss. He's found the next day. His last moments were pain and glory and speed)

Notes:

I might make, I guess a prequel if this is still stuck in my head after posting. Idk what else to do with this tho..
