Chapter Text
Sometimes, I get the urge to run into the sea and not return. Crashing waves, soft sand, the warmth of the sun, the beach was for me. It washes away my worries, or I guess more accurately it made me feel like I could escape without any sort of trace. But there weren't that many places near where I resided that had such views or sounds. The closest to me was Takobo Municipal Beach Park which was covered in trash. That never stopped me from visiting the dump, but it definitely did a damper.
When I walked there in the early morning before my classes, I saw two figures. One looked to be an older gentleman encouraging a boy my age? What was he doing? I couldn’t help my curiosity.
Should I say hi? No, it looks like he's busy. Cleaning? Training? Both? I don’t want to bother him. But, maybe he could be a new friend! With a small nod and huff, I made my way over there. My wings fluttered furiously so my feet wouldn’t touch the trash covered sand.
“Excuse meee!” I called out, my arm in the air waving before I could control myself. How embarrassing! But the smile on my face was evident.
The boy looked startled before he flushed a red and muttered to the man beside him who appeared to be laughing at him. The boy hit the man's arm before waving back at me.
My smile grew till it was all teeth and I quickly landed in front of him. The closer look I got at him revealed curly green hair and the most trustworthy face I’ve ever seen. My heart beat rapidly as I tried recovering from flying over here. Man, was I out of shape? Well, honestly ya. Maybe these wings shouldn’t be just for show.
My pale arm reached out for a handshake, “My name’s Mizuki Fujimori and I have decided you’re my new best friend!”
The green haired boys eyes widened and he looked back between me and the other gentleman, muttering all the while. My smile wavered and I was hit with the thought that perhaps he didn’t want to be friends.
“I’m Izuku Midoriya,” he exclaimed, “and I accept! You’re my best friend,” as the man let out a boisterous laugh.
Wings fluttering behind me, I listened as the man, Yagi Toshinori, described how they were training for the Yuuei hero entrance exam. My face must’ve shown some sort of confusion as Midoriya explained he wanted to be a pro hero and this was the best high school around.
“You want to be a hero?” my thoughts jumbling around as I thought of the (very little) things I knew about him. He was working on building muscle so it must be some sort of strength quirk. It made sense, I suppose. I thought to my own, about how it impacted others. Before I realized I had whispered, “Do you think I could be a hero?”
Toshinori’s eyes widened as he stared at his mentee and this girl, bringing him back to that day on the rooftop. The green haired boy clasped the girl's hand and proudly stated “we both can be heroes, together!” The blonde smiled greatly and wrapped his arms around the two promising to be the mentor they needed.
The girl pulled away first, flushed and with a happy look on her face. She pulled her long pink hair over her shoulder to hold and declared that while her quirk wasn’t physical, she would be a hero that helped others.
The kids exchanged numbers while Toshinori stood facing the water as the sun rose higher. He basked in the sun and thought, One for All is a hard secret to keep but having someone in your corner is a good idea. She seems like a good kid. And, if my gut is right, someone who has the potential to be extremely powerful. As an ally, a friend, she can help young Midoriya on the quest to be the very best. Yes. This will work out well.
“Come on, let me walk you to school. It’s the least I can do for interrupting your workout,” the girl pouted besides him, her lips quivering as they fought back a smile and a laugh.
Midoriya’s face turned red as he muttered about a girl walking him to school and isn’t it supposed to be the other way? He agreed nonetheless and walked in step next to her. He glanced at her from his peripherals taking it in. This random girl who had stumbled upon their training who was confident enough in herself to say hi but not enough in her abilities to be a hero despite wanting to be one since she was a kid. Izuku took in the little white wings on her back and the elf like ears. They must’ve been secondary characteristics from somewhere in her family line since it seemed she didn’t trust herself using her quirk since it wasn’t physical. One day, when they were closer, she would tell him. For now, it seemed like a sour subject to her.
They stood in front of Izuku’s schools gates and she let out another smile. She grabbed his hands and he felt his heart race as she wished him a good day and that she’ll see him tomorrow. Izuku rushed off to homeroom, feeling his face warm up but deciding to write down what he knew of her in his quirk analysis notebook before he forgot.
The pink haired girl giggled, the sound of chimes as she walked off to her own school. While it was too late in the year for her to gain the close friends she so desperately craved from her classmates, she could settle on being a good classmate and student. But, now she had the motivation to do so. Despite moving here in the middle of the academic year and worrying about, well, everything, she had gained a best friend who was as anxious as her and immediately dealt with her clinginess. She shook that self deprecating thought out and established that it wasn’t dealing with her, it was being a kind human who would be a hero with her. They would be each other's support. She would make sure of it! The resolve to be stronger took over her heart. The first matter of business (besides now working out with Izuku) is to be academically smart, something the pink haired struggled with.
I will show that I am worthy. That people don’t need to hand me anything because they felt compelled to. My hands clenched, my sharp nails leaving crescent moons in my palm, this will be a good rest of the year. Without realizing, my eyes flashed pink with determination causing the teacher to take a quick inhale and his eyes looked around to see who was affected. The worry left as he got a better look at her face thinking, so, she’s got a new resolve? I’m glad...
