Work Text:
Magnus sighs and sits back in his chair. One glance at the clock, and he collects his things. He stuffs papers and folders into his briefcase, and he folds his glasses in his breast pocket. He loosens his tie some more, since the day is over, and everyone important left the building hours ago. The perks of being the ones in charge and have their names on the front door.
He leaves his office and locks the door. He waves goodnight to the paralegal who sits at her desk. Lily Chen pops a bubble with her gum, and she smiles tiredly at him.
“Goodnight, Mr. Bane.”
“You did good today,” Magnus praises. “Don’t let the loss get you down. There are more important cases out there. We were going to lose this one, and I think you knew that.”
Lily plays with a rubber band in her hand and shrugs, effortlessly uncaring though Magnus knows better. “It would’ve been nice to see that smirk be wiped off. A blanched look on the asshole’s face. The one where he’s seconds from punching the wall and show everyone his fragile masculinity.”
Magnus chuckles. “I’m afraid the excess botox in his forehead would’ve made it impossible to frown properly. Maybe a popped blood vessel would be our best bet.”
Lily giggles and spins in her chair. She picks up her Hello Kitty backpack, and switches out her shoes into more comfortable ones. Anywhere else she would be ridiculed and thrown out for being unprofessional. Magnus encourages her to be her true self. They aren’t going to win their clients the best deal based on their clothes. Who cares if their lawyer wears pink.
Magnus wishes her safe travels home, and he walks to the front door. He’s expectantly stopped by a loud booming voice calling out to him. Magnus plasters a smile and turns around.
Jackson Phillips is another lawyer from their firm. He studied hard and graduated from a pretentious school. His work ethic is impressive, as long as emotions aren’t part of the bargain. He cared little for clients, including whether he believed their innocence or not, only focused on winning. He’s a numbers guy, which explains why he wins many cases. Quantity over quality. He has a bus load of small cases under his belt.
It took little time for him to snatch a position here, considering his parents hired him when he graduated and passed the bar exam. Phillips Law Firm is where clients with small claims go to. It’s as important as any other firm, and Magnus learned a lot the past two months he’s worked here.
Jackson in his far too clean suit puts his hands in his pockets. His blond hair is combed without a single strand out of place. He leans on the desk of his personal paralegal, who sits tensely in his chair and types on his laptop.
Jackson gives Magnus one of his famous mirth grins. “What a shame today. I hope there aren’t any hard feelings.”
Magnus smiles back and stretches his back. “No worries. My client received guardianship over the little girl. It wasn’t what she wanted, as she requested the parents to relinquish their parental rights, but she’s happy to call Madzie hers.”
Jackson clicks his tongue, and his voice drips in condescension. “Children are always better with their parents. It was silly of your client to go after my clients like that.”
Magnus tilts his head left and right. “I suppose. Well, at least we know how much Madzie’s parents love her. Let’s hope she follows in their footsteps. That way she doesn’t have to work a day in her life. It’s essential to show her that parents are her crutch in life.”
Jackson’s eye twitches, and his jaw clenches. His face remains stone with skin stretched to the max. It has to be painful to be unable to move facial muscles.
Jackson’s personal paralegal lets out a strained cough, and he covers his mouth when Jackson turns to him.
Magnus grins, and he remembers why he insisted on taking an office here while helping his friend. Alexander Lightwood is a beautiful man, and he looks delicious in a suit.
Another lawyer walks by them. Lydia Branwell. She gives Magnus a pleasant nod. “It was an honor to work with you. I hope you don’t mind that I made copies of your references.”
“Of course not,” Magnus says warmly. “They’re for anyone who needs them. I don’t own them. I hope they help you.”
“So giving,” Jackson replies irritably, hating to be ignored. “You’d win more often if you didn’t give your opponents your resources.”
“My cousin is always stirring up trouble,” Lydia continues, as if he never spoke. “That recovery center will be a big help.”
“Send him my best,” Magnus tells her. Lydia waves and leaves for her office. “Nice woman.”
“Too bad you won’t see her again,” Jackson says with the kind of calm found in the eye of a storm. “You won’t bother her during our conversation at our dinners.”
Magnus puts his hand on his hip. “You might’ve been talking to her, but it was me she was looking at.”
Magnus’s eyes flicker to Alec and winks. Alec’s broad shoulders tense with laughably wide eyes and pink cheeks. He reaches for his coffee, but the cup clatters to the floor. Alec curses and leaves to get a wet cloth.
Magnus watches him, taking the chance to get a good look at his ass. Jackson balls his hands into fists. “Your time is up. Get out or I’ll take you to court for trespassing.”
“Careful, Jack,” Magnus says. “That would be a little above your skills. Stick with what you do best - easy wins handpicked by your daddy.”
“Out!” Jackson hisses, fumed, looking out of sorts and unlike himself.
Magnus bows dramatically and leaves with a snicker. He was too easy to piss off.
Magnus drives to the local supermarket still open and picks out some steaks for the weekend. It was a long week, and he finally has two weeks off before he returns to his own law firm. He’s going to enjoy every moment.
Magnus gets to his lavish apartment. The maid came today, so the place is spotless, and Magnus is beyond relieved to be back in his clean pristine home after working with that asshole. It was fun annoying him, but Jackson did everything he could to slow him down and make it harder on him. If Magnus didn’t love Catarina so much, he would’ve reached out to an acquaintance to help her instead.
He changes out of his suit, and he puts on a purple silk shirt and buttons the bottom three and leaves his chest open. He slides on more comfortable slacks and nice shoes. He doesn’t wear much makeup at work, but he does have eyeliner on. He puts a swipe of purple eyeshadow and calls it good for the night.
There are places in town for the wealthy to spend nights of decadence. Magnus’s favorite, the Hunter’s Moon, is a fancy bar with a wide luxurious room full of low lights and comfortable leather couches. Glass tables to do drugs or lose thousands in poker. The security is tight, but they’re not there to stop anything illegal. They’re exclusively there to keep poor people out. You have to know someone to put you on the list, and then there’s a monthly fee to pay.
In the far corner, there’s a space for even more tantalizing activities. Magnus eyes the area as he walks in. He goes over to the bar and orders a whiskey. He snatches a cuban cigar from the counter and sticks it in his mouth and lights the end.
Two women come to him and offer their services, and he politely declines. He sits down on a couch close to the wall where the light is especially dim to hide his face in darkness.
Two familiar people sit on a couch ten feet away. A blond man with his suit jacket off. He’s pressed into the other man’s side, and he has a hand down their pants. His hand makes slow and steady movements, and the man closes his eyes in pleasure.
Then he opens them, and those hazel eyes land on Magnus. A spark of want shines in them at the sight of him.
Magnus brings his cigar to his lips. He blows the smoke in Alec’s direction. Alec pales and Magnus winks.
Jackson leans in to whisper in Alec’s ear. Alec nods slowly, out of it with smoke of lust spiraling in his eyes. A dust of pink colors his cheeks, and he parts his lips and moans. He moans a little louder, strangely loud considering a handjob can’t possibly feel that good coming from Jackson.
Alec had been stiff when Magnus walked in. He looked to be in pain when Jackson was kissing his shoulder and neck. It didn’t take a genius to know Alec wasn’t interested in the other man - his boss. Jackson’s ego was too big to deny him, so Alec took whatever pleasure he gave him. Alec’s head fell back when his hand snuck beneath his waistband.
Magnus was close to the pair, and Alec was quickly falling apart. His disheveled state. Sweat gathers on his neck and forehead. He clutches Jackson’s wrist of the same hand currently stroking him. He jerks his hips, chasing the sharp strokes. He releases unchecked moans, ranging higher and desperate.
All while looking at Magnus. His face was angled away from Jackson, and he moans loud and depraved. Magnus watches him back, daring him to turn away from him. Alec does no such thing. Jackson whispers something else, and his hand moves faster. Alec arches his back, and he shakes in his seat.
He comes right there in a busy room, an orgasm brought on by his boss. His gaze doesn’t once stray from Magnus. Someone his boss hates.
Magnus grins at him and mouths good boy. He sticks his cigar in his mouth after finishing his drink. It’s time to leave. His cock is hard, and if he doesn’t leave now he’s going to go over there and throw Alec over his shoulder.
You might’ve been touching him, but I was the one he was looking at.
