Chapter Text
A/N: Hello everyone! I was falling asleep one night and I suddenly got the idea for this story. This is my first Demon Slayer fanfiction, so I hope you all like it and enjoy it!
Tanjiro and Nezuko were walking up the path towards the butterfly mansion, Tanjiro teaching Nezuko new words along the way. After a particularly grueling mission, the two of them just wanted to see a few friendly faces. Tanjiro had every intention of seeing Kanao, but Nezuko was happy to be included. As the mansion came into view, Tanjiro noticed Giyu coming down the path with a girl.
The girl wore the standard uniform of the corps but wore a purple and pink haori with a subtle flower pattern and she had pitch black hair with the exception of the ends being a hot pink color and her hair was pulled into a half up half down style with a purple ribbon. As they got closer, Tanjiro recognized the girl as Ayame, the newest hashira. Nezuko tugged on Tanjiro’s sleeve and pointed at Ayame in confusion.
“Oh, that’s Ayame Takasugi, Nezuko. I think she’s a flower hashira.”
“New?” Nezuko asks, having never seen Ayame before today.
“Yes, a new hashira. She only became a hashira in the last year. That’s what Kanao told me, anyway.”
Nezuko gave a ‘humph’ sound and then gestured towards Ayame again, as if she were silently asking him another question.
Tanjiro chuckled, “yes from the few interactions I have had, she’s very kind. I think you’ll like her.”
The girl, Ayame, finally stopped her conversation with Giyu. Well, she was talking while he listened, and her green eyes finally focused on Tanjiro and his sister and gave the two a warm smile.
“Hello, Tanjiro! How are you?” She asks, smiling at the two, Nezuko staring at her in curiosity and Ayame’s smile never faltered as the demon girl came closer.
“Hello, miss Takasugi! Hello, Giyu! Is Kanao around?”
“I don’t know. We were about to head in when we got a mission,” Giyu says, crossing his arms as he watched Ayame’s interactions with Nezuko out of the corner of his eye.
“If she is, I think she is with Shinobu,” Ayame says, finally turning her gaze to the younger boy.
“Thank you!” He says, giving the two a small wave and took Nezuko by the hand to lead her the rest of the way to the mansion.
Tanjiro gave one last look at the two before entering the estate, watching as Ayame continued the conversation that she was attempting to have with Giyu. The younger slayer couldn’t hear what Ayame had said, but he could have sworn he saw the corners of Giyu’s mouth twitch upward into a smile.
Did he just…smile at Ayame?
Nezuko looked at Tanjiro, giving a small hum as if she had the same thoughts before the two went inside where they found Shinobu and Kanao out back with the rest of the hashira, plus Tengen who stopped by for a visit.
“Hello, Tanjiro. Are you here to see Kanao?”
“Yes, I was hoping that maybe we could have tea together.” He says, Kanao looking at Shinobu, who gave her a small nod of approval before looking at the rest of the group. Her brow furrowed as she noticed that Ayame and Giyu were missing.
“Where are Ayame and Giyu? I invited them here too.”
“Oh, I ran into her and Giyu outside. They were going to come by but then they were summoned for a mission.”
“A mission together? Yikes.” Mitsuri says with a giggle, cringing at the thought of those two alone on an assignment.
“She has no idea what she’s in for,” Sanemi says, sipping his drink.
“He isn’t so bad once you get to know him. They were talking and I saw Giyu smile.”
Sanemi choked on his drink, sputtering, “what the hell did you say?”
Tengen hit Sanemi hard on the back until he finally stopped coughing.
“Come on, Sanemi! Don’t die over Tomioka smiling!”
Shinobu gave a small smile, “What a pleasant surprise. No one has ever been able to get a smile out of him.”
Mitsuri squealed, “ooh, I just had an idea! Why don’t we help things along?”
Sanemi scoffed, “you want to set sweet Ayame up with Tomioka? Who is incapable of showing an ounce of human emotion? That’s the stupidest idea I have ever heard in my entire life.”
Shinobu smiled, “Mitsuri may be on to something. It may be…right.”
Gyomei nodded, “it is true. Their personalities are opposites, but it may balance things out perfectly.”
“I want no part in this.” Obanai says, Kaburamaru coiling tightly around him as if in agreement.
“I don’t see what the big deal is, but if she did make him smile then maybe it makes sense.” Muichiro says matter-of-factly, his statement only fueling Mitsuri’s excitement over the idea.
Obanai and Sanemi were the only two that wanted nothing to do with this matchmaking game of Mitsuri’s while Muichiro was very much indifferent towards the idea.
Instead of having tea with Kanao, Tanjiro spent the afternoon helping the rest of the hashira come up with a plan.
Operation: Get Giyu and Ayame together was a go.
