Chapter Text
"Have the disciples for the nighthunt with the Lan Clan already been chosen?" Sect Leader Jiang, Master of the Three Poisons, asked while observing the young disciples imitate newborn fawns instead of the Jiang techniques being displayed by the instructor in front of them.
"Yes, Zongzhu" said his second in command, no longer a child seeking revenge, without a care for his own life. "Most of our most experienced disciples haven't come back" handing him a list, he continued " but the young disciples I have chosen are clever and centered".
Jiang Cheng, courtesy name Jiang Wanyin, headed to his office. "Make sure those brats are notified, and prepare them. They are disciples of a great sect, so tell them to act like it".
"I'll make sure they understand, Zongzhu", Jiang Luo nodded seriously, then a shitty smile started to form on his face. "I know Zongzhu is very excited for this nighthunt, maybe for a certain someone-?" the brush was barely avoided before he bowed and rushed to the door "I'LL MAKE SURE THE KITCHEN PREPARES SECT LEADER JIN'S FAVORITE BUNS". The first disciple ran away while laughing before something bigger followed the brush.
Jiang Cheng sat as he massaged his temples "These brats are getting more and more disrespectful." He sighed as he picked up some pending letters to check "maybe I'll drop by the training grounds more often".
The Gusu Lan Clan's colors could be seen on the letter, the light blue he had grown familiar with had hardly ever given him reasons to be happy. "What is it now?" he opened the letter, afraid it might ruin his opportunity to see his nephew after so long. "What?" His traitorous eyes skipped to the end where a beautiful handwriting seemed to mock him for his former thoughts. He could not believe his eyes, but the words on the paper did not change even after looking at them for what felt like a whole shichen. The name of the number one bachelor of the Cultivation World was still at the end of the letter.
"*Sect Leader Jiang, I hope you are enjoying good health, and-" Jiang Cheng quickly skipped the typical greetings and went to the part that mattered the most
"This is an informal announce of the end of my seclusion, the rest of the clans have not been informed yet, but considering the long last alliance of Yunmeng Jiang and Gusu Lan, this humble Sect Leader wished to inform of my decision beforehand. I have decided to join the next nighthunt with Yunmeng Jiang as I, shamefully, need some time before joining the cultivation world again. I hope this does not interfere with your plans, and if it does, I will definitely retreat from my decision. I hope Yunmeng Jiang and Gusu Lan continue to be strong allies. Zewu-Jun.*"
Jiang Cheng remained still for a few moments before quickly picking up the brush to answer. He did not when the letter had arrived, so a reply must be sent as soon as possible. Two shichen later, he called for his second in command. " Send our faster messenger to Gusu right now. Tell them to be careful as this is confidential".
Jiang Luo nodded seriously " Yes, Zongzhu!". After a quick bow, he turned around before pausing and asking "Will Zongzhu be joining us for dinner?" But he already knew the answer just looking at his saviour taking another letter from the pile. "I'll finish this tonight" Jiang Cheng muttered while already falling into work mode.
Jiang Luo frowned slightly "I will tell the kitchen to send your dinner". Jiang Cheng hummed while dismissing him with a hand gesture. Closing the door, Jiang Luo sighed as he followed the orders given to him. He already knew the food would be left cold and forgotten as his zongzhu pulled yet another all-nighter to work. Still, he would make sure to drop by the kitchen as soon as he completed his task.
"I hope he does not force himself during this nighthunt" he muttered to himself. Little did he know, he would later come back to this thought, and curse his past self.
