Work Text:
“Why didn’t you fight back?” Pomni says through gritted teeth.
“Oh here we go, HERE WE GO.” Jax yells. “Because I didn't fight back, that means I secretly care about you?!”
“NO! YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO FIGHT BACK.” Pomni yells, standing up. “You HAVE to.”
Jax tilts his head in anger and confusion. “What do you mean I'm ‘supposed’ to?”
“That’s how it works, we get in an argument, and you fight.” Pomni mutters. “Why won’t you?”
“Because there isn't a reason to?” Jax says.
“Yes there is! You don’t care about me do you?” Pomni says.
“WHY WOULD I?” Jax points at Pomni. “I don’t care about you, or about ANYONE ELSE in this circus in the slightest!”
“Exactly! Why would you worry about hurting something you don’t care about?” Pomni raises her voice. “Just HIT ME.”
“No.” Jax says. “I won’t. I won’t give you the F**KING SATISFACTION. This will just hurt you more.” Jax gets closer to Pomni. “I won’t give you what you want.”
“Well then what do YOU want?” Pomni takes a small step back, clenching her fists. “What do you want?”
Jax gets out of Pomni’s face, and glares at her. But he doesn’t say anything.
Pomni doesn’t feel like she’s just talking to Jax right now. There's someone else. Someone else that she can’t remember. But the words are true for both of them.
“What do you want?” She asks again. “Because I would've given you everything if you asked me for it. Anything I could give you, I would.” Pomni takes another step back, and wraps her arms around her chest. “And godd**mit I hate you for making me feel that way.”
Jax glares at Pomni for a moment longer before speaking. “I want nothing. Not from you.”
Jax turns around. “F**k.” He kicks something on the floor. “F**k.”
Then he walks away. He walks away, and Pomni is left unscathed.
Pomni curls up in a ball and cries. She cries, and cries, and cries.
She bleed herself dry for someone who didn’t want her.
Again.
