Chapter Text
Midoriya Izuku was nothing special. It was easy for any normal person to see and tell. He was quite the plain looking boy, the type of guy you would pass on the street but wouldn’t take a second glance at. He didn’t really excel in anything particular either if you looked at his school records.
The only thing that could be counted as special or unique was the fact he was quirkless. A characteristic you don’t see too much these days with it being an aging population marching on its way to extinction. It was the only thing of note in any file pertaining one Midoriya Izuku and it would probably stay like that.
Chisaki sighed as he tapped his fingers idly against his forehead. He had plenty of people under him who could do this job, however anything to do with Eri had to be carefully thought out. He needed someone who could clean her room, in a rare instance take care of her, all without a question. One quirkless child just might be what they need, especially since he’s free from the sickness the world faces. He could be a nice addition to his plan as well, an extra perk to the job
————————————————————————-
Midoriya’s week was going just great if you ask him. There was absolutely nothing wrong going on either. Everything was just peachy.
.
.
.
That was a lie of course.
Midoriya’s week was going terrible, catastrophic in fact. Every day being more terrible than the last. His small part time job fired him due to “complaints”. He knew it was just the fact they found out he was quirkless. There was only so long he could force himself into 'normal' shoes, before he had to switch back to his red shoes. They didn’t even give him his last pay check. Then he was locked in a storage cupboard at school for 4 hours before he managed to pick the lock open by himself from the inside. Kacchan telling him to kill himself, which was out of character for him even if he was the worst. Doesn’t he know how his words can affect people? Finally with today being left on the roof by his idol after being suffocated and almost killed by a villain. His one last hope in this world besides his mother rejecting him.
It was such a simple question was all he asked. Even a lie would be better than the cold reality All might reminded him of. The sort every adult tells a kid despite it being impossible. Trying to be a hero without any sort of power was dangerous, reckless and impossible. Kacchan was right. He was nothing but a useless deku. The quirkless can't do hero work, he wouldn’t be able to save anyone.
He slid down the wall next to the locked door, his only way down from the roof. He didn’t stop the tears that fell or try to quiet his sobs. There was no point.
What good could he do. In reality no one would hire him for work even if he made it through high school, citing his lack of any power as the reason. Whether because he’s quirkless or because of the backlash of hiring someone like him. He didn’t even know if any high school would accept him. A few state on their websites that they accept students no matter their quirk but never in writing if that includes him as well. He was just slipping through the cracks.
Izuku right now just felt empty. He had no real way of getting down from where he was unless some worker came up for a smoke break. He had no hope for his future since he would only be a burden to his mother if he continued to mooch off her when he’s an adult. He knows that she loves him, but not being able to pay her back for raising him would make him a terrible son. He wouldn’t jump even if it sounded better than the bleak future ahead of him. He wouldn’t do that to his mother, not after all the effort she put into raising him. Maybe he could just stay here a little while long-
BOOM
His thoughts were interrupted by a loud crack in the sky, smoke filling the air and obscuring the skyline to the east. He scrambled up from where he was sitting, rushing to the railing closest to the scene. More explosions sounded out but something about the crackle and pops sounded more familiar to him…
KACCHAN!
The slime villain must have escaped and it was all his fault. Now, Kacchan has been attacked and he couldn’t do anything. He was stuck up here. His feet bounced erratically on the spot. What could he do? He wanted to help, to save his…friend? Bully? He didn’t really know what Kacchan was to him anymore but he wanted to help so badly. Wanted to rush in, to show he could still be a hero despite being quirkless.
But he couldn’t. He was still stuck on the roof of some random building. His hands became sweaty from his tighten grip on the railing. Watching…listening for any sign that a hero had saved Kacchan. The explosions and screams just continued.
All he could is just pace, constantly looking over the railing. As if he could try and figure out a way to survive from jumping that high. He scoffed at himself for the idea but it was tempting.
Midoriya’s possible jumping plans were interrupted by a worker finally coming to the top of the roof. After being told off, despite his explanation of being left up there, he was finally free. His lungs burned and his legs became sore as he sprinted as fast as he could to the scene. Hoping, wishing that he wouldn’t be too late. That the universe wouldn’t take anything from him.
————————————————————————
As he rounded the corner, All Might had already punched the villain with his signature . Despite running out of time because of him. Kacchan was praised and being checked over by the paramedics. Digging his nails into the palm of his hands. He was too late. The event further cementing that he would never be able to be a hero. He would never be fast enough or strong enough.
Midoriya gripped his fraying backpack strap as he turned around. Letting out a sigh of relief that Kacchan was atleast safe as he made his way back home. His mother would surely be worried.
Midoriya opened the door to his home slowly, wanting to just sink into his bed and forget today ever happened. He slipped his shoes off and replaced them with his home slippers. He could hear his mother quietly humming a tune in the kitchen. Not wanting to disturb her and decompress, he continued his quiet escape into his room.
Midoriya knew he was a massive All might fan, it was built into him by birth. Everything he owned and his perseverance could be accounted towards that man. That’s why his whole room was covered in an inch of its life of the very man. However, after today, his smile didn’t invoke hope and confidence in him anymore. Just a sense of emptiness and a tinge of anger. Not at All Might, never at him but at himself. He made a mental note to de-allmightify his room at some point. A new change in his life might just be what he needed.
No dreams came to him that night.
