Work Text:

“Poor kid. Still what the young master wants, he gets. Don’t be afraid to crack him a bit- long as it ain’t nuthin permanent,” the man said into the phone tucked near his ear.

Law was only half-listening to the lurid conversation as he passed the door and down the hall. Some sorry bastard who got on Doflamingo’s bad side no doubt. Although from the sound of it, no one would have to fish him out of the bay; he should count himself lucky for that.

“Nah- that scar ain’t from our line of work. Probably got it in a farm accident. Whaddya mean? Of course that priss Law would pick one up from the backwaters. Brat’s not right in the head, ya know?”

Law froze in his tracks, the words lodging in his heart like shards of ice.

How did Doflamingo find him?

How did he know?

He’d been careful with Luffy, hadn’t he?

Nothing out in the open. Nothing explicit or official.

Law always made sure to keep a finger on the pulse of Doflamingo’s vast information network as he and Luffy shared chaste kisses in the dark corners of alleys and fleeting touches in bathroom stalls. They were always quick. Always quiet. Always under lock and key. Barely enough time for themselves, let alone some voyueristic snitch.

So how did Doflamingo find out?

And what was he doing to Luffy?

Law couldn’t hear the thunderous crescendo of his footfalls as he stormed into the room, the door rattling on its hinges behind him as he curled vicious fingers around the man’s trachea, complexion growing pallid at the shock of Law’s presence and the sudden asphyxiation.

“Where?” Law hissed, his voice taking on a desperate and anxious rasp he hadn’t heard in many years. He thought he’d left it behind with the poverty that dogged his childhood, but clearly, that was not the case.

The man blustered, attempting to exude some sense of composure despite the hand locked around his throat.

“Back so soon, lover boy? I thought ya’d at least be another wee-”

Where is he? Don’t make me ask again,” Law demanded, using his free hand to snatch up the switchblade in the man’s belt and press the edge up into his gut, the satin barrier of his shirt dangerously thin between the steel and subcutaneous fat.

“Alright! Alright! Calm down, kid, and I’ll talk. Let’s just put the knife away…”

“You’ll talk when I say you will, and you’ll talk now. Where’s Luffy?”

“Jesus Christ-”

The man swallowed anxiously, eyes flitting between the blade and Law’s piercing glare.

“He’s in one of the boss’s warehouses near the canal on the north side of the city. I dunno which one, okay? I was just told to dump the body on the street.”

Law wasted no time, using the knife to pin the man to the wall by his suit jacket and barreling out the door towards his car, blood pounding in his ears. He almost missed the man taunting him over his shoulder.

“You’ll neva make it in time, brat! That pretty face will be mince meat by the time ya get there!”

Any residual irritation Law felt from the comment melded with his rage and dismay as he slammed his foot on the gas, and with an ugly screech of the tires, sent his car flying like a bat out of hell towards the northern canal.

Law huffed out another frustrated scream as he opened the cellar door to four walls of absolute nothing. This was the third warehouse he’d tried, and it had been almost a full hour since he’d left the base. Each minute that Law watched tick away on his watch seemed to simultaneously drag on too long and end too quickly. Like a piece of thread running through Law’s fingers, growing thinner and thinner as it unwound by the yard.

Law dreaded the looming possibility of it snapping. Each fiber breaking with a sickening pop before the end flickered out of his sight- as if it had never existed. As if it had never been his.

Law quickly marched back up the stairs, his limbs feeling much heavier than they had when he’d left the base, when he heard it.

A gunshot.

No.

Three gunshots.

Two in rapid succession, one a beat after.

Law raced up the remaining steps in a fervor, whipping his head around as he scanned the night air that stretched down the street between the oil-lit lampposts.

Where had that sound come from?

Where was he?

Maybe he was okay?

The man had said nothing about Luffy being killed. At least nothing about planning to kill him.

Maybe

Maybe there was still time.

Law made a guess as to where the sound had come from and ran. Ran so hard his legs ached. His lungs swelled and tightened beneath his ribs, screaming for air, but Law couldn’t remember how to breathe. All he knew was to run and to pray.

Pray to God or the universe or whatever omnipotent cosmic forces could possibly be watching this sick series of events. To pray that Luffy was alive and that the sun would rise in the morning.

That Law’s world would not end on this frigid night, with three gunshots in the dark.

Law saw the black beemer parked outside a warehouse near the end of the dock and dashed inside, nearly braining himself on the doorframe as he threw his weight down on the ramshackle flooring and raced down the stairs to the concrete cellar.

As the sole of his shoe finally hit solid rock, Law inhaled a breath that rattled his entire body, alveoli practically crying at the long-awaited sensation of air in his lungs, leaving him heaving as he stared at the iron door. He wrapped a clammy hand around the cool door handle and sucked in another quivering breath that left him lightheaded.

The handle cut into his palm as Law tightened his grip, flashes of anxiety and horror illuminating his frontal cortex like a noir horror flick.

What would be behind this door once Law turned the handle?

Would it be Luffy? Irritating, annoying, blindingly sunny Luffy now still as stone with a hole in his head?

Or would he be alive?

Just barely hanging on. Exsanguination draining the rosy hue from his smiling cheeks and the light from his eyes, his lithe body held up only by torturous restraints?

Oh god.

What if he wasn’t even there?

What if Law was in the wrong warehouse and Luffy was somewhere else? Far away, bleeding and pleading for Law to come find him?

As Law’s mind began to swim in a growing whirlpool of turmoil, a single neuron, as if reaching for a lifeboat, jumped and pulsed down his arm, dragging the handle down and careening him through the open entrance with a shriek of metal against concrete.

Law barely had a chance to balance himself before he heard the distinct click of a shotgun loading, and looked up to see the barrel staring down at him.

But far more striking than the gun barrel pinning him in place were the pair of fierce brown eyes that sat just above it behind the gun’s scope. Lambent and gleaming like a cat’s in the moonlight.

Law’s muscles relaxed like an uncoiling spring, relief crashing through him like a wave as those eyes softened in recognition, the messy scar beneath one of them loosening with the tense facial muscles.

“Torao?”

The shotgun fell to the ground with a clatter as Law enveloped Luffy in his arms, pulling him in tightly. Law could feel it. Luffy’s breath, the angles of his frame, the warmth of his skin. Luffy was alive. Alive and in his arms.

Nothing had ever felt so right.

Law hooked his chin over Luffy’s shoulder, burying his nose in his hair. He smelled like gunpowder and iron. Like salt and musk. He smelled like life, and Law wanted nothing more than to burrow into that scent and lose himself in it.

Luffy was alive

“-ao.”

“Torao!”

“Earth to Torao! You’re crushing me!”

Despite Luffy’s protests, Law kept a grip on his retreating form. Keeping his hands on the small of Luffy’s back so Law wouldn’t lose even a degree of the body heat radiating off Luffy’s bruised skin.

He’s alive

“Torao…” Luffy started as he brought up a hand to wipe away at the wetness leaking down Law’s cheeks, a concerned expression contorting the bloodsmears that streaked across his golden complexion.

Law didn’t realize he’d been crying.

He looked into Luffy’s eyes. Those warm, amber pools full of honesty and kindness and everything Law ever wanted but never thought he could have.

Luffy was his everything.

And Law almost lost him.

As Law grappled with the heaviness of this revelation, crushing his heart with all the force of a train car, Luffy smiled at him.

“It’ll be okay, Torao. We can reschedule the reservation to some other time!”

Law blanked.

Reservation?

Law’s insecurities and terror suddenly felt very insubstantial in the face of his lover’s flippance.

“Luffy-ya,” Law sighed, exhaustedly rubbing the muscle of Luffy’s lower back like a stress ball, “what on earth are you talking about?”

Luffy gazed up at him quizzically.

“I told you already, the dinner reservation for tonight. I was really looking forward to some good meat, but I guess it can’t be helped since I looked like this,”

Luffy gestured down to his attire that, now that Law was actually paying attention, looked like it had gotten into a nasty fight with a paper shredder before getting caked in a mixture of dirt, grime, and blood.

“I mean, I don’t mind, but I know you’re kinda into appearances, ya know? Oh! Maybe we could get take-out! I don’t know if the place does take-out, but it’s worth a shot, right?”

Law gave another sigh and felt the tears well up again behind his eyes. It was all so overwhelming. Two minutes ago, he was sure he’d find his lover a stiff corpse. Now, said lover is neurotically rambling about their date night itinerary, the corpses of his would-be captors scattered about with well-placed shots in each of their faces, likely thanks to Luffy’s hunting experience. Law suddenly felt silly for worrying so much about Luffy just because he was a farm boy.

“H-Hey! Don’t cry, Torao! We don’t have to do take-out if you don’t want to. We can do whatever you want. Don’t cry-”

For the first time in the months since their whirlwind affair began, Law pulled Luffy’s mouth to his and kissed him hard and deep.

They could never afford to share a kiss like this before, always running to avoid the ears in the walls and Doflamingo’s surreptitious eyes throughout the city. But here, soaked in the stench of death and relief, and ennervation heavy in their bones, Law couldn’t bring himself to care. And despite the low light of the room coming only from the moonlight peaking through the boarded-up cellar window, Law swore he could feel rays of sun on his face as Luffy’s wet, bitten-down lips pressed into his.

Law smiled lazily as they broke the kiss, gazing at Luffy with adoration as if the man had just given him a star.

“Tell you what, I’ve got a safe house on the west bank that no one knows about. We can stay there for the night, and I’ll patch you up. Fridge is all your’s.”

Luffy beamed and gave him another loving peck before he bounded up towards the stairs, dragging an exasperated yet endeared Law past the corpses as they stepped out into the night.

————-------

Luffy hissed as Law applied iodine to the scrape along his upper arm.

“Torao…” he whined.

Law, unconcerned, continued to dab the area with the gauze pad in perfunctory motions.

“Be a good patient and sit still. It’s this or sepsis. I’m just amazed you don’t need stitches after all that.”

Luffy gave out his signature airy chortle as Law applied ointment to the area and bandaged it, taking a step back to admire his handiwork.

There was no denying it.

Luffy looked rough.

A few faint lacerations around the neck paired with some bruising where a knife must have been held.

A dark bruise on the cheek that was on its way to turning a sickly shade of purple.

Deep, angry marks around his ankles and wrists, paired with the scrapes on his upper back and arms that brought to mind asphalt grating down on soft skin.

Law looked away.

He could feel the hate bubbling in the pit of his stomach.

Hate for Doflamingo and the people who had done this to Luffy, who were probably stiff as boards down in that cellar by now from the rigor mortis.

But mostly hate for himself.

Hate for dragging someone as bright and innocent as Luffy, who reminded him of golden fields of wheat in the summer countryside, to his dark world twisted with Machiavellian lies and corruption and filth. Hate for being the one to smear and besmirch him.

If Luffy was a golden field, Law was the pollution running through the stream. He was the oil and grease, the unnatural and engineered illness that promised to clog up the roots and wither everything it touched. The grime from when Luffy;s abductors had dragged him through the dirt, still dulling Luffy’s aureate flesh was a testament to that.

Absent-mindedly, Law picked up the soaked cloth sitting in its dish near the bedside and ran it across Luffy’s shoulder, careful not to actually touch him, as he watched the filth trickle down in rivettes.

Luffy grabbed his wrist.

“What’s wrong?”

Law avoided his inquiring stare, keeping his eyes locked on a smudge of dirt that punctuated the end of Luffy’s clavicle. If he looked closely enough, he could see how the grime stenciled out the patch of epidermis into diamonds, which looked a bit like snowflakes if he squinted.

“Nothing’s wrong.”

Luffy lifted his chin with a gentle hand, bringing the line of Law’s gaze to meet his.

“Torao. Please?” Luffy asked, his tone steady and unwavering as he released both Law’s chin and his captured hand. Law let his palms rest on the bed, mattress squeaking beneath him as he repositioned himself, angled slightly away from Luffy.

“I just… you got hurt. Hurt because of me. You went through something awful because I made a stupid mistake. Why are you even-what the hell is wrong with you, Luffy-ya?”

Luffy stared at him for a moment, then gave a chuckle, pulling Law’s hand into his lap and forcing their spaces to intertwine.

“I get asked that a lot. And I’m not hurt! Thanks to you, I’ll be right as rain in the mornin’!”

Law responded to this comment by using his remaining free hand to lightly flick the bruise on Luffy’s cheek, to which Luffy recoiled.

“Right as rain, my ass. This isn’t something you can just brush off, Luffy-ya. Someone like you shouldn’t-”

Law’s breath hitched as Luffy caught Law’s hand before it could fall away from his face, bringing it to his lips and planting a kiss on Law’s open palm.

He nuzzled into it. Nosing between the crevices of Luffy’s fingers with his eyes closed as if hoping to fill his lungs with the scent. Law felt heat bloom in his cheeks as Luffy looked up at him with eyes open as a horizon at sea.

“Someone like me shouldn’t what, Torao?”

Law’s heart throbbed as those eyes bore into him. So honest. So good .

“Shouldn’t… be involved with this,”

With me

“It’s too dangerous for a country idiot like you. You could get seriously hurt,” Law finished lamely, blush dying his cheeks a furious pink.

Luffy just looked at him with a smile, still cradling one of Law’s hands against his cheek with the other held in his lap. He pulled him in, so Law had to straddle Luffy’s thighs with his knees and brought their faces close.

“Torao, I promise you,” Luffy said tenderly, their noses brushing against each other, “I am exactly where I’m supposed to be.”

This time their kiss was soft and wet. Absent of life-affirming haste and pumping adrenaline. For a moment, they were just two youths, inviting each other into their shared warmth, kissing in the sparse glow of an aged light bulb.

No gangs. No moral quandries. No skeletons in the closet.

Just lips and spit and stolen breath, mingling together in their own little world.

The gentle heat between them rose to a simmer as Law groaned, letting gravity pull him down into Luffy’s lap as hands wrapped around his waist. Law shivered as they ran up underneath his shirt, tracing the back of his ribs and pushing up against his scapula, keeping his body flushed against Luffy’s. Law watched as the fat of his chest swelled over the tops of Luffy’s pectorals as he broke away from the kiss.

“Fuck…” Luffy gasped, face flushed and eyes beginning to glaze over with desire.

Law wondered if Luffy could feel his heartbeat through their ribs. Or maybe that was Luffy’s heartbeat he was feeling, reverberating through him like a drum. Law didn’t care either way. All he knew was he needed more of it.

Cupping Luffy’s face to his for another kiss, Law leaned forward and brought them both down onto the sheets, the mattress creaking loudly in protest.

Between wandering hands and lips and tongues slipping over teeth, Law breathed out,

“Dumbass-” kiss ,

“You’re gonna-” kiss ,

“Regret this-” kiss

“In the morning.”

With an ease that made Law’s stomach flip, Luffy hooked an arm under his thigh and switched their positions, letting Law’s head bounce gently with the bed for a moment as he got used to his stunning new view.

A watermarked ceiling that was probably infested with mold.

And Luffy,

beaming down like he’d just climbed to the top of the world.

“You should be worried about yourself, Torao,” Luffy said, sitting up and repositioning himself between Law’s open thighs.

“My friends have told me I’m very persistent- can’t let go of what I want. You should meet them! I bet they’d love you.”

“Luffy-ya,” Law groaned, “don’t talk about your friends when you’re an inch away from my crotch.”

Luffy let out a giggle that sounded vaguely like an apology as he dipped and ran his fingers along the waistband of Law’s slacks, looking up at Law’s flushed face for permission as he fiddled with the buttons.

“Mmf… go for it,” Law encouraged as he carded a hand through Luffy’s hair. The growing wetness in his briefs was bordering on uncomfortable as Luffy pulled at the zipper and began to slide the fabric down his thighs.

“Torao,” Luffy breathed in wonder as cold night air met the aching heat of Law’s cunt. Luffy pressed his thumb into the slick stain dampening the underwear. “You’re soaked .”

Law groaned as the digit pressing into the swell of his sensitive folds, blushing furiously. His whole body felt like a live wire.

“What’s your point-” Law spat, but before he could finish his question, Luffy was already folding him in half, dragging Law’s soaked briefs along with the upper half of his pants down his thighs so the fabric bunched beneath his knees, leaving his legs immobile beneath Luffy’s hold.

Luffy’s palms were cool and calloused against the hot skin of his glutes, and Law watched in horror as Luffy stared at Law’s bare pussy, transfixed by it, drinking in the sight of Law’s naked vulnerability like a new specimen.

And then he smiled.

“You’ve got cute lips down here, too.”

“Luffy-ya, I swear to go- Ah !”

The first kiss to Law’s core felt like an electric shock, the sensation of Luffy’s gentle lips brushing his labia fizzing through Law’s nervous system like a sparkler. The spark only grew bigger and brighter, lighting the back of Law’s eyelids like a star as Luffy kissed him deeper, mouthing at the delicate muscles and nosing between Law’s folds.

“Luffy-ya, Luffy… ” Law moaned as Luffy pushed even deeper, practically suffocating himself as though he could get all the oxygen he needed from between Law’s legs. Law squirmed against the confines of his half-undone pants and Luffy’s firm grip on his ass. Torn between escaping and riding the harsh nosebridge punishing his delicate clit.

As his pleasure began to mount like the crest of a tidal wave, Law felt the wet heat of a strong tongue moving along his center, stroking along his opening.

“Luffy-ya, Lu- don’t stop. Fuck , don’t-”

Law’s pleasure was mounting higher and higher, racing towards the peak- but just as Law was about to reach the apex of the cliffside

Those warm lips retreated

And Law’s climax came skidding to a halt.

Law’s chest heaved as he tried to reorient himself past the rapidly deflating pressure seeping from his gut and pelvic floor. He brought his head up off the pillow to glare at Luffy, who had straightened his posture to grin triumphantly at him past the fabric constraints around Law’s knees.

“Bet none of your hurt patients could do that,” Luffy boasted cheerfully.

“I don’t usually let my patients french-kiss my cunt,” Law bit back, finally kicking off his pants and reaching out to pull Luffy in by his nape for a kiss. Letting their tongues intermingle with a heady sigh as Luffy let his weight rest against Law’s chest. Law could taste himself on Luffy’s lips, a strangely addictive combination of mellow earthiness and tang. He swallowed it along with Luffy’s spit and his moans.

“Mmm… let’s keep it that way,” Luffy hummed as he rubbed the hardened bulge in his pants against Law’s core, smearing the clotch.

Law let his fingers trail down Luffy’s sculpted abdomen, careful to avoid the bandaged scrapes, to hook inside the lip of Luffy’s trousers.

“I’m gonna need these off,” he gasped in between kisses, and Luffy hurried to obey him, unbuttoning and shucking his pants off the bed with haste as if too much time away from Law’s lips would kill him. He slid the fattened head of his dick along the slick crevice of Law’s perineum as he smashed their lips back together. Reveling in the kiss before pulling back from Law to angle his cock towards Law’s entrance, keeping an eye on Law’s curling expression as he steadily pushed into the inviting cavern.

“Fuck, Torao…” he exhaled, face red and eyes overflowing with adoration, “you have no idea how pretty you look right now. So cute. You’re so good for me, it’s crazy.”

Law could barely breathe as Luffy continued to push inside him. He could feel Luffy’s hands trembling slightly with every breath as he held tight to the fat of Law’s hips for leverage. Luffy looked so overwhelmed, so fragile just from how Law’s pussy was squeezing him.

He looked so breakable. Law just wanted to hold him…

Coming up on his elbows, Law pulled Luffy down for their lips to meet, mistakenly shifting their combined weight on the shaky old mattress, causing Law’s hips to slide down to the base of Luffy’s cock in one swift, stupifying motion.

Law bit his bottom lip through his own cries and heard Luffy’s guttural moan at the sensation. His entire body suddenly felt stretched thin and stuffed full. Luffy let his head drop so they were touching, foreheads pressed against each other. Inhaling and exhaling the air from each other’s lungs, chests rising in time.

Law couldn’t tell anymore where his body ended and Luffy’s began anymore, nerve endings all frayed and tangled as Law let himself drown in Luffy.

In the way his breath shuddered,

how the skin of his back was lightly damp with sweat beneath the hooks of Law’s arms,

and how his dick twitched deliciously against the walls the Law’s insides.

“Luffy-ya… you okay?” Law gasped, gazing up at the other man whose eyes remained closed, face screwed tight in concentration.

Luffy nodded.

“You can move. I won’t break,” Law assured him, moving to wrap his legs around Luffy’s muscled hips

When Luffy suddenly made a grab for Law’s arms, pinning them to his sides.

“Don’t-” Luffy exclaimed, his expression becoming even more furrowed as he dropped his head to Law’s sternum for support. “Just give me a second, Torao. Just, fuck -”

Luffy was gripping Law’s arms so hard Law thought he might leave bruises. It was a thought Law chastised himself for enjoying a bit too much.

“You feel so good . So hot . God- I feel like I’m gonna break,” Luffy whispered reverently. Law flushed, but did his best to remain still, letting the man hide away between the soft mounds of his pecs, allowing Luffy to piece himself back together.

Luffy almost came just putting it inside him.

Just as Law thought he was getting used to the large intrusion spearing him open, Luffy began to move. Slowly rocking at first, grinding down into Law in gentle circles.

Then he began to thrust.

Deep, meticulous thrusts that buried him to the hilt inside Law, the slap of his hips against Law’s ass echoing up through Law’s veins and straight into his brain like a dose of morphine.

The room was a cacophony of heavy breaths and creaking springs, the clapping of skin against skin, and the wetness of slick and spit.

And a mantra of curses and whimpers that flowed from Law’s lips like water with Luffy’s name.

“Luffy-ya, Luffy-ya fuck - please! Don’t stop- don’t AH !”

Law’s climax came like thunder, striking him and every system in his body ablaze as Luffy continued to pound into him. He felt his eyes roll back as Luffy’s movements continued to shake him, limp like a rag doll- crying out as his orgasm sent him tumbling over the edge.

Luffy choked on air as Law’s pelvic floor muscles contracted and spasmed, strangling his cock in a hot, velvet vice.

Torao - so tight -” Luffy stuttered as his thrusts grew sloppy. He pulled out and came with a shout, white ropes erupting from where Luffy’s overstimulated cock rested between Law’s pussy lips.

For a moment, all they could do was breathe. Pleasure clouding their senses over as they collapsed into each other.

They listened to the creaking of the mattress springs under their weight as they finally oscillated into stillness. Felt how their chests rose and fell against each other like two cogs, moving skin-to-skin in harmony, like clockwork. They could each feel the pulse of the other’s heartbeat throbbing behind their ribs.

Growing slower.

And steadier.

Until they reached a rhythm together. Comfortable and calm like the waves of a sea rocking against a boat.

“Don’t suppose you still have energy for a bath, Torao?”

No answer.

“Torao?”

Luffy got up tentatively, raising himself onto his hands and knees to loom over Law’s docile form, only to find the older man fast asleep. In his new post-orgasm clarity, Luffy took note of the dark circles that hung heavy around Law’s eyes. He must have worried himself sick.

Luffy smiled fondly, gently brushing a loose strand of hair behind the tired man’s ear. What Luffy had done to earn the company of such a lovable man, he had no idea.

But he sure as hell wasn’t going to lose him.

After wiping down Law’s stomach, careful not to rouse the man from his deep slumber, Luffy picked up his phone and dialed a number. It rang for a few moments before a feminine voice answered.

“Who’s this?”

“It’s me.”

“Luffy?” the voice answered, before she continued, taking on a chiding tone, “What on earth have you been doing over there? We’ve been going as fast as we can, but Zoro got us lost already and your lack of updates have just been-“

“There’s been a change in the plans,” Luffy stated plainly, cutting off the voice, “tell the crew to prepare some heavier equipment. We’re taking the city.”

“What? Luffy, we can’t-“

Luffy ended the call with a soft click before he silenced the phone, placing it on the bedside table and rolling onto his side to admire his lover.

Law had once confided in him that although he dreamed of a life full of love and happiness, he believed he could never leave the mafia. Being a gangster was just as much a part of him as his dreams were, and he could not sacrifice one for the other.

Now he wouldn’t have to.

Because Luffy would give him both.
