Work Text:

The poets are sat in Neil and Todd’s living room of their flat. There’s a distance thunder and the patter of rain heavy on the window.

“Jesus don’t think this storm is going to pass anytime soon” Neil says peering out the window.

“it’s forecast to be on for a few hours” Meeks said, not averting his eyes off the news on the Tv

“Storm Weir is forecast to continue for the next few hours, a day at the most. Citizens are advised to stay in the safety of their homes and not to leave until the storm past” blares from the tv

“surprised the power is still going strong” Pitts adds

“Don’t fucking speak to soon pitsie” Charlie reached over and slapped Pitts arm from his postistion in Knox’s arms.

“if it does we are sending you to the roof to fix it” Neil’s laughs and moving from the window to settle next to Todd.

A few more moments passed, the lightening occasionally lighting up the room, Todd flinched each time and Neil only tightened his grip around him.

“Do we have any torches or candles is the power does go out?” Cameron asked

“There might a torch in a drawer in the kitchen somewhere” Neil said

Seconds before Cameron could stand up to find the torch, the lights started to flicker and the tv turned off. Then the power completely went out.

“Fuck you Gerard” Charlie, Neil, Knox and Meeks said in unison.

“Hey it’s not my fault!” Pitts said holding his hands up defensively

“Sure thing thor,” Charlie said, getting out his seat to look out the window. “Looks like the whole cities out”

Everyone else got out their seats to look out the window.

“Guys not to be that guy but I’m scared of the dark” Knox complains, don’t think there’s anything that he’s not afraid of.

“Don’t worry babes, I got this” Charlie says stomping his foot, lighting his shoes up.

The bright flickering rainbow lights from Charlie’s shoes lit up the room. The rest of the poets stood staring at Charlie.

“What the actual fuck Charlie, why do your shoe light up?” Neil asks half shocked and half in awe.

“Think the better question sweetheart is, why don’t yours?” Charlie laughed, having a child-like pride on his face.

Charlie leaves the room presumably to find a torch now he has a light, the light follows him out of the room leaving the poets left in darkness, they could just make each others faces out.

“Knox, seriously” Cameron says

“What?” Knox laughed, his eyes following Charlie out the room.

“You are dating a child,” Cameron scoffed.

“You are just jealous my shoes light up and yours don’t Cam” Charlie says re-entering the room holding a torch, tossing it at Cameron who nearly dropped it.

“Are we all collectively going to ignore the fact that Charlie is 23 years old and has light up shoes” Meeks pointed out.

“Another question is why is he wearing them?” Todd added

“Who knows whenever you will need an emergency light” He shurruged “and hey i’m still waiting for my ‘oh thank you Charlie! our lord and saviour! thank you for sourcing a light’”

Knox kisses his cheek, “why thank you Nuwanda” He laughed.
