Work Text:

Ace and Nami swayed gently in the hammock, the motion rocking them in an almost hypnotic rhythm, as though the night itself was trying to lull them into sleep. But neither of them was close to being asleep. The stillness between them wasn’t comforting; it was thick, heavy with the unspoken desire that simmered under the surface.

Ace felt the warmth of Nami’s body pressed against his side, the soft, yet firm curve of her waist, the heat radiating from her skin. She was too close, but at the same time, it wasn’t close enough. He let his fingers drift down the small of her back, his hand splayed across the smooth curve of her body. He could feel the light tremor in her muscles as she shifted, and a soft exhale left his lips at the sensation.

“Is it too much?” he murmured, his voice barely louder than the whisper of the wind through the trees. He didn’t mean the hammock — he meant her. The way she felt so warm and perfect pressed against him. But he wasn’t going to let himself give in so easily. Not yet.

Nami tilted her head back just enough to catch his eye, her lips curving into a teasing smile. Her dark eyes sparkled in the dim light, and the slow, deliberate way she looked at him sent a shiver through his chest.

“I’m starting to think this hammock was a terrible idea,” she said, her tone playful, but there was something else there. Something deeper. “We’re too tangled up.”

Ace’s hand shifted slightly, grazing her waist, and he could feel her breath hitch in response. He wasn’t the only one feeling the heat between them. She was just as aware of his proximity as he was of hers.

“Well, we’re both in this now,” Ace replied, his fingers tracing light patterns along her skin. His voice was a soft drawl, thick with the lingering tension between them. The back of his hand brushed against her ribcage, the small, tender movement making her arch ever so slightly into him. His pulse quickened. “And if you think I’m going to let you go, you’re mistaken.”

She let out a soft laugh, her lips near his ear. Her breath was warm against his skin, and Ace felt the weight of her teasing, like a gentle push pulling him closer to the edge. The way she kept her distance, just enough to drive him mad, made it all the more enticing.

“Well, maybe I don’t want you to let go,” she murmured, the words low and laden with meaning. She shifted against him again, just enough to tease but not enough to be too obvious. The brush of her body against his was electric, sending a rush of heat through him. Her fingers trailed down his arm, the soft touch making his muscles tighten instinctively. “But I’m starting to think you want me to say it first.”

Ace’s chest tightened at her words. Damn her. Damn the way she knew him so well. He turned his face slightly to the side, just enough for their lips to nearly touch. He could feel the warmth of her breath, the softness of her lips hovering just out of reach. He wanted to lean in, to take that final step, but there was something satisfying about the anticipation.

“Not yet,” Ace murmured, his voice rough. His lips brushed against her cheek, a feather-light touch that sent a pulse through both of them. “But you’re getting closer.”

Nami’s fingers lingered on the side of his neck, curling around his collar, her touch slow but purposeful. She was teasing him, pulling him just a little further out of his grasp, only to bring him back in.

“You always say that,” Nami said, her voice almost playful, but her tone betrayed the depth of the undercurrent of desire. “You’re getting good at making me wait, but I’m starting to think you enjoy it more than I do.”

Ace let out a low, breathy laugh. The feel of her fingers on his neck, her nails gently scratching at the sensitive skin there, sent a wave of heat through his body. “Maybe I do,” he admitted, his lips brushing her earlobe as he leaned in, his breath sending a shudder through her. “But you’re not exactly innocent in this game, Nami.”

Her body shifted again, this time pressing her chest closer to his, her leg sliding over his. The touch was brief, but enough for him to feel her soft curves against him. Her body was a perfect contradiction of softness and strength, and Ace couldn’t help but be drawn in by it.

“Then what do you want from me?” Nami whispered, her lips brushing against his jawline. Her teeth grazed the skin of his neck, just hard enough to make him gasp, and she smirked when she felt the response, felt the way his body tensed. “Tell me, Ace. What’s your next move?”

His heart hammered in his chest at the closeness, the way their skin was so close, so heated. He could feel her pulse beneath his fingertips, and the sound of her breath was louder now, almost as loud as his own. He swallowed, his throat dry, and his hand moved from her waist to her back, pulling her just a fraction closer.

“I think,” he began, his voice a low growl, “I’m enjoying this… waiting.”

She raised an eyebrow, her lips curling into a teasing smile. “Oh? You want me to be the one to break first?” she asked, her words barely audible, but the challenge was clear. Her lips hovered near his, her breath brushing over him, warm and sweet, and Ace could taste the pull, the almost irresistible temptation to just give in.

“I’m not breaking, Nami,” Ace said, his voice thick with desire, his grip tightening on her. “I’m just... letting it build. And when it’s time, we’ll both know.”

Her eyes fluttered shut for a moment, her lips so close to his but not quite touching. The tension was so thick between them, it felt like the entire world was holding its breath, waiting for them to make the first move.

“I’ll be the judge of that,” Nami murmured, her voice low and dangerous as she leaned in just enough to make him feel her lips brushing against his.

But still, Ace didn’t close the gap. Instead, he took in a slow breath, the air thick with their mutual want, and whispered, “I’ll wait. I’m good at waiting.”

They stayed like that for what felt like eternity — close enough to feel each other’s heartbeats, yet far enough apart that neither of them could quite reach the other. Neither of them was ready to give in fully, and yet, the pull between them was magnetic, as though they were both caught in a moment where the clock had stopped.

“I guess we’ll see who breaks first,” Nami finally said, her voice laced with the same teasing edge, her eyes locking onto his.

Ace smiled, a slow, knowing smirk. “Maybe tomorrow,” he said, his voice steady despite the heat swirling between them. “But tonight... let’s just enjoy the tension.”

And with that, they stayed there, swaying gently in the hammock, tangled together but not quite giving in, both caught in the delicate balance of desire and restraint.

The night stretched on, thick with the promise of something more, but neither of them moved. The pull was still there — raw, alive — but neither Ace nor Nami would give in just yet.
