Chapter Text
Eddie walks into the 118 and he has a weird feeling that today is not going to be a good day.
Eddie first joined the 118, 5 years ago when Christopher was only 2 years old and his omega Shannon had abandoned them because she didn't feel any sort of bond with Chris.
Eddie was angry that she left in the middle of the night but once Eddie moved to Los Angeles and he got a job as a firefighter and he was assigned the 118 things became easier as he had people who he could trust and rely on.
When the members of the 118 met Chris well that was it for Eddie as Chris won everyone over with his smile and his cute face and curly hair.
Bobby and Athena became like parents to Eddie and they never made Eddie feel like a failure unlike his parents who always made him feel like he was doing things wrong.
“Morning Eddie, how's Chris this morning?” Bobby asks as Eddie reaches the top of the stairs and Bobby is on his way to the kitchen.
“Chris is doing okay, he can't wait to hang out with Harry again” Eddie says.
“Denny's the same all weekend he kept going on about what they will do the next time they get together” Hen says from the sofa.
“Those three are like the three musketeers,” Chimney says.
“Well as soon as you and Maddie start having kids then it will be the four musketeers” Eddie says.
“Maddie and I are happy as we are right now and who says it will be a boy” Chimney says.
“Oh you want a girl do you?” Hen asks.
“When Maddie and I are ready for kids I would like a girl first and then a boy” Chimney says.
“Well I can definitely see all of the kids getting along and becoming protective of each other” Bobby says.
“Same here” Both Eddie and Hen say at the same time.
“OK guys let's get to work and complete our chores first” Bobby says.
Everyone gets to work and Chimney and Hen are looking at the ambulance and Eddie is checking on the truck.
“Excuse me, I'm looking for Captain Nash?” A voice asks behind Eddie and the man turns around and Eddie nearly falls over.
The man who said he was looking for Bobby is bloody gorgeous, he has blonde curly hair, blue eyes and one of his eyes has a pink mark above it and his arms are huge and he clearly looks like he can handle himself.
“I'm sorry” Eddie says.
“I'm looking for Captain Nash. Can you tell me where he is?” The man asks.
“Yes. Follow me” Eddie says.
Hen and Chimney watch as Eddie and the stranger walk up the stairs to the loft and the both decide to follow.
Eddie and the stranger get up the stairs and they head towards the kitchen.
“Bobby got someone here to see you,” Eddie says.
Bobby turns around and he comes face to face with his next probationary firefighter.
“Evan Buckley I take it” Bobby says.
“Yes but please call me Buck” Buck says and he shakes Bobby's hand.
“Well it's nice to meet you, please call me Bobby or cap” Bobby says.
Hen and Chimney come over by that time and they look confused.
“OK everyone I want your attention this is our new probationary firefighter Evan Buckley but he goes by Buck so only call him that” Bobby says to everyone and most of the A-shift wave and some of them go over and introduce themselves.
“Your last name is Buckley. Any chance you're related to my wife?” Chimney asks.
“I don't know who your wife is called plus I don't know who you are,” Buck says.
“Oh I'm sorry Howard Han but I go by the name Chimney” Chimney says.
“Who is your wife?” Buck asks.
“Maddie Han but her last name was Buckley well actually her last name was Kendall” Chimney says.
“No sorry I don't know who she is,” Buck says.
“Oh looks I have it wrong” Chimney says.
“No problem. Captain Nash, where do I get changed?” Buck asks.
“Right, let me show you the locker room,” Bobby says.
Bobby leads Buck downstairs and he takes him to the locker room and Buck is not impressed with the fact that people can see other people getting changed but Buck dismisses the thought.
“I'll let you get changed” Bobby says and he walks away.
Buck takes a good look around and he finds an empty locker and he puts his things in it and he starts to get dressed in his firefighter uniform.
After tying his boots his phone goes off and Buck answers it.
“Hello,” Buck says.
“Hey son I just wanted to say good luck on your first official day as a firefighter” Phillip says.
“Thanks dad. I don't know if you know this but it looks like Maddie is in L.A as I'm working with her husband” Buck says.
“Her husband?” Phillip asks.
“Yeah, some guy called Howard Han,” Buck says.
“I heard she got married again after she left Doug” Phillip says.
“Why didn't you tell me?” Buck asks.
“Buck you were away overseas and it's been years since you and I last saw her” Phillip says.
“I know I thought you would've told me that's all” Buck says.
“I didn't want to upset you. We have done fine with it being the two of us haven't we? Phillip asks.
“Yeah us two against the world. Look dad, I need to go so I'll speak to you later” Buck says.
“OK son speak later and you be safe” Phillip says and he hangs up.
Buck hangs up and he puts his phone in his pocket and leaves the locker room.
Buck walks up to the loft and he sees the people that he was speaking to are still standing where he left them.
“Buck let me introduce Eddie,Hen and of course Chimney has already introduced himself” Bobby says.
“Nice to properly meet you Buck” Eddie says and he shakes Buck's hand and as he is shaking his hand he feels something but Buck drops his hand.
“So Buck, what did you do before the academy?” Hen asks.
“I was a navy seal,” Buck says.
“Wow, that's impressive,” Chimney says.
“Buck has a silver star,” Bobby says.
“Did you save a platoon or something?” Eddie asks.
“Something” Buck says and he goes and puts his food in the fridge and it's labelled with his name on it.
“Oh Buck, we normally eat what Bobby makes,” Hen says.
“I have certain allergies,” Buck says.
“Well if you write down your allergies then I will readjust what I'm cooking to suit you?” Bobby asks.
“They're already in my file,” Buck says.
Bobby looks at Buck and he leaves the kitchen and goes to his office and gets Buck’s file out of the filing cabinet and opens it up to page 3 and he looks down and he could kick himself as it clearly stated that Buck is allergic to all types of fish and anything containing omega 3.
Bobby puts the file back in the cabinet and walks back out and walks back up to the loft and he goes straight up to Buck.
“I'm sorry Buck I completely missed it and I automatically thought it wasn't in there” Bobby says.
“It's fine. That's why I always pack my own food as it makes me feel more comfortable and I know what's in it” Buck says.
“Still, I should have reread your file just so I had all your information fresh in my head. It won't happen again” Bobby says.
“Thanks Bobby, I appreciate it,” Buck says.
“What allergies do you have, Buck?” Chimney asks.
“Buck is allergic to all types of fish and omega 3 so I want you all to be extremely careful when you are around him and I don't want anyone bringing anything that contains fish or any residues of fish” Bobby says.
“Is it bad?” Eddie asks.
“I've ended up in the hospital a few times with it,” Buck says.
“Oh my god” Hen says.
“Do you have an EpiPen?” Eddie asks.
“It's not that bad. I normally just pass out and end up throwing up but sometimes I need to be rushed to the hospital” Buck says.
“Ok. How does pizza sound for lunch?” Bobby says.
Hen,Eddie and Chimney's face fell as they were all looking forward to Bobby's famous prawn linguine.
“Yeah pizza sounds good right guys” Eddie says.
“Look you guys don't need to change what you were going to have for lunch” Buck says.
“Are you sure Buck? I don't want to put you at risk” Bobby says.
“It's fine Bobby,” Buck says.
Buck goes and makes himself a coffee and he walks back to the group and Bobby tells him that he is going to be Eddie’s partner from now on as he feels Eddie needs someone to have his back.
Buck and Eddie nod at one another and they both smile at each other.
Eddie shows Buck around the 118 and Buck takes a mental note of what Eddie is showing him and where the equipment goes.
After showing Buck around both men go back up to the loft.
“So Buck, are you an Alpha or an Omega?” Chimney asks.
Buck looks at Chimney and he is shocked that the man would ask him that.
“Wow I can’t believe you just outright asked me that” Buck says.
A few other firefighters are shocked as well and some of them are disgusted that Chimney would ask someone who he has only just met.
“What, I don't see the issue” Chimney says.
Bobby,Hen and Eddie look at Chimney and they look angry.
“Chimney you can't just ask someone that” Hen says.
“How stupid are you? It's Buck's choice if he tells us or not” Eddie says.
“Chimney you know that we are not allowed to ask people that unless it's a life threatening situation and you as an Alpha should know that” Bobby says.
“Come on, I'm allowed to ask a question,” Chimney says.
“No you're not. It's down to me if I want to tell people what I am and that goes for when I find my soulmate and we have bonded then it's down to us who we tell but clearly you think you have the right to know everyone business and I'm guessing you have trouble keeping things to yourself” Buck says.
“Oh he does. Chimney can't keep a secret to save his life” A firefighter says.
“That's why we don't tell him things as he will tell Wilson first and then it's all over the station” Another firefighter says.
Buck looks at the other firefighters and Buck knows he can at least trust them.
“I'm not that bad,” Chimney says.
“Yes you are and I can't believe you are trying to defend your own stupidly” Another firefighter says.
“Chimney stop talking as you are not helping yourself so I want you to say sorry to Buck as you had no right to ask Buck that question” Bobby says and his voice is showing that he is using the voice of the head of the pack.
“I'm sorry Buck” Chimney says.
“Really sincere” Buck says and he goes over to the other firefighters.
Buck avoids Chimney when they are at the station and Eddie understands but it makes things awkward.
“Hey Buck, can I speak to you?” Eddie asks.
“Yeah sure. What's up man?” Buck asks.
“Look, I think you should forgive Chimney,” Eddie says.
Buck laughs at what Eddie says and Eddie frowns as he doesn't like anyone laughing at him.
“I'm sorry but you're joking right?” Buck asks.
“No I'm not” Eddie says.
“OK. So the fact that Chimney asked me a very personal question when he knew that he wasn't allowed to ask me it but still did and when confronted about it he tried to make himself the victim” Buck says.
“Look I know it's bad but it's making things awkward around here and with you just starting your first day you don't want to make waves” Eddie says.
“Wow and I thought you were a decent person” Buck says and he gets up from the couch and walks past Eddie.
Eddie looks confused as he didn't expect that reaction from Buck and he is just trying to look out for Buck as Eddie knows Chimney will make Buck do the nastiest chores.
“Buck had every right to say that and I thought you of all people would respect someone's boundaries?” Hen says behind Eddie.
Eddie turns around and he comes face to face with his friend and colleague.
“I guess I'm so used to being overprotective of people I forget that some people don't need it” Eddie says.
“Eddie I get the feeling there is more to Buck than meets the eye” Hen says.
The 118 got called out to a call where a woman had her head stuck in a truck tail pipe and Buck just couldn't understand how that would impress someone.
Eddie and Buck act professionally on the call and Bobby is impressed as it looks like they are both going to make a great team.
Before Buck gets back in the truck Eddie pulls him aside.
“Look Buck I just want to apologise to you about earlier and it's down to you if and when you chose to forgive Chimney” Eddie says.
“Thank you Eddie I appreciate you saying sorry” Buck says.
“I hope we can be friends, Buck?” Eddie asks.
“I'm sure we can Eddie” Buck says and he smiles at Eddie
Eddie feels this wired connection and he can't help but like that he may have some kind of connection to Buck.
Once Buck and Eddie are in the truck the 118 head back to the station.
Athena walks into the 118 firehouse and she sees that her husband is on a call so she goes up to the loft and goes and makes herself some coffee and she waits for her husband to return.
When Athena found out her ex husband Michael had cancer she immediately booked some time off work as she needed to process how she felt and she knew herself that she shouldn't be working.
Athena hears the truck pulling in and she gets up and looks over the railings and sees everyone getting out and she sees someone new and she knows this is the new firefighter Bobby was telling her about.
“Hey guys” Athena says as people come up the stairs.
“Hey sweetheart, this is a nice surprise” Bobby says and gives his wife a kiss.
“What are you doing here Athena?” Eddie asks.
“I just thought I would come and have lunch with you guys” Athena says.
“Well you are more than welcome” Bobby says.
Buck walks past Bobby and Athena and he goes to the fridge.
“Oh Buck this is my wife Athena and Athena this is Buck our new probationary firefighter” Bobby says introducing both Buck and Athena to each other.
“It's a pleasure to meet you Mrs Nash or should I say officer” Buck says.
Buck sees that Athena has her shield covered but some of it is visible.
“It's Sargent but you may call me Athena” Athena says.
“How did you know Athena was a police officer, Buck?” Hen asks.
“Her shield may be covered but some of it is showing and she clearly has an off duty weapon that she is concealing but because I used to be a navy seal I'm trained to spot things like that” Buck says.
“Wow I'm impressed and you must have been young when you joined the navy” Athena says.
“I was 18 when I joined,” Buck says.
“We're your parents not worried about you?” Hen asks.
“My dad understood my decision plus we have great communication skills” Buck says.
“What about your mum?” Chimney asks.
“It's always been me and my dad,” Buck says.
“How come?” Chimney asks.
Buck looks Chimney and he is not making a great impression on Buck.
“Buck, is your mum dead?” Eddie asks.
“No she is not Eddie but maybe Han would like to explain why he wants to know why it's always been me and my dad when it's none of his business” Buck says.
“Well Chimney, are you going to answer Buck?” Athena asks.
“Well Buck said it's always been him and his dad and I wondered why and it's not like you all aren't asking him questions” Chimney says.
“There is a difference in how they are asking me questions and how your tone tells me that you're demanding the information,” Buck says.
“We are letting Buck tell us what he feels comfortable in telling us and Chimney you have already been told about Buck's boundaries when you ask him earlier if he was an Alpha or Omega” Bobby says.
“He did what!” Athena says and she is angry and Chimney takes a step back.
“Sergeant Nash it's fine Bobby has already spoken to Han so please don't be angry” Buck says.
“I'm glad my husband has already handled the situation but I'm allowed to be angry on your behalf” Athena says.
“I appreciate it but I'm good at putting down boundaries” Buck says.
“OK but just so you know I protect anyone who is a part of Bobby's team and I make sure that they know to always turn to me” Athena says.
“That includes our families so tell your dad that he is always welcome to go to Athena or any one of us if he needs help” Hen says.
“Thank you, I know he will appreciate it,” Buck says.
Buck's phone goes off and Buck pulls it out of his pocket and sees his dad calling.
“Speak of the devil” Buck says.
“I'm sure he just wants to make sure you are OK and that your first day is going ok” Bobby says.
“I know and I'm glad that we have a great relationship,” Buck says.
Buck walks back down the stairs and he answers the call.
Buck answers the phone and puts it to his ear.
“Hey dad what's up?” Buck asks.
“Hey son I was just wondering if you wanted to meet for lunch?” Phillip asks.
“I don't think I'm allowed to leave the station while I'm on duty,” Buck says.
“OK that's fine I just wanted to see you that's all” Phillip says.
“I'll ask my captain if you can come here for lunch,” Buck says.
“You don't have too” Phillip says.
“No it's fine” Buck says.
Buck goes up to the loft and Bobby and Athena are in the kitchen talking and cooking so Buck walks over to him.
“Hey Bobby, is there any chance my dad can join us for lunch?” Buck asks.
“Of course Buck your dad is more than welcome to join us for lunch” Bobby says.
“Did you hear that dad, you can come to the station for lunch” Buck says.
“Tell your captain thank you and I'm on my way” Phillip says and he hangs up.
Buck hangs up and he puts the phone back in his pocket.
10 minutes later Phillip walks into the firehouse and Buck is standing at the bottom of the stairs to greet his dad and after both men hug each other Buck leads his dad up the stairs and Phillip meets Bobby and Athena first and then he meets Hen and Eddie is the last person to introduce himself.
Chimney walks up the stairs and he sees that someone new is sitting at the table.
“Chimney, this is Buck's dad and his name is Phillip” Bobby says.
“Nice to meet you sir” Chimney says.
Phillip nods to Chimney and smiles at him but he doesn't say anything.
Bobby puts the food down on the table while Buck goes and gets his lunch from the fridge and when he goes to get it he sees that his lunch is no longer in the fridge.
Buck looks through the fridge and it's definitely not there and Chimney smirks to himself.
“Bobby, have you moved my lunch?” Buck asks.
Bobby looks over at Buck and he frowns.
“No, the last time I saw it was when you put it in the fridge and told us about your allergies” Bobby says and he gets up and goes and looks in the fridge and he can't see any sign of it.
“OK guys who moved Buck's lunch?” Bobby asks.
Everyone looks at Bobby and most say not them and the others shake their heads.
“I think you should be asking Chimney that question,” Hen says.
Chimney looks at his friend and his face shows the shock on it.
“Chimney, did you move Buck's lunch?” Bobby asks.
“So what if I did?” Chimney asks.
“Chimney you had no right to do that” Bobby says and he is angry.
“You as a paramedic should know not to ever do something like that especially when my son has told you that he has allergies” Phillip says.
“So he doesn't have his lunch; there is still bread and butter that he could have instead” Chimney says.
“That's not the point Chimney you knew that was Buck's lunch and he couldn't eat what I was making and he was nice enough to actually allow me to still make this food as I was just going to order pizza but Buck said it was fine and you go and do that” Bobby says.
“If it's OK with you Bobby I'm going to go to the cafe across the road and get something?” Buck asks.
“No Buck I don't want you paying for your lunch it will be Chimney paying and why don't you order it and get them to drop it off” Bobby says.
Chimney looks like he wants to say something but one look from Bobby he keeps his mouth shut.
Buck orders his lunch and after a few minutes the driver comes into the station and he asks for Buck and Buck goes over and takes his food and Bobby tells the driver that Chimney is paying and Chimney goes over and gives him the money and walks back to the table.
Buck goes and sits on the sofa and Eddie gets up and he goes and joins Buck and Hen does the same.
Chimney just sits there and he is angry and he locks eyes with Phillip who looks at him and Chimney feels a bit scared to be honest.
Phillip finished his food and he thanks Bobby for letting him join them for lunch and Bobby tells him he is welcome anytime and Phillip says goodbye and he tells Buck he will see him at home and Buck waves goodbye to him.
