angel and pastries

Summary:

Oikawa was flattered that so many people were willing to help him. Really, he was. But also, he really wanted to go to the bakery himself.

Not because the pastries tasted better and sweeter when he was the one buying them (a lie that he told his servants), but because the bakery owner was the sweetest thing Oikawa had ever laid eyes on.

Notes:

this was very fun to write, i hope you'll enjoy this little treat, lena!! <3

Work Text:

Oikawa had dozens of servants who could buy him pastries. In fact, dozens of them have offered to do it.

"Oikawa-sama, you should not do something as mundane as shopping."

"Oikawa-sama, please let us go."

"Oikawa-sama, why don't you rest in the Palace's Private Garden?"

Around 8:30 AM, Oikawa left the Palace with only his purse and a huge grin plastered on his face as he greeted the guards standing on each side of the portal.

The walk to the bakery was a quick one. In no time, Oikawa stepped into the small and cozy establishment, humming pleasantly as the delicious smell hit his nostrils.

The small bell above the front door rang and Oikawa smiled when he saw that there was no other client in the store.

An angelic voice made itself heard from the kitchen in the back of the shop. “Welcome! Be here in a minute!”

Oikawa could not see the other man yet but he smiled nonetheless. “Take all the time you need,” Oikawa replied, voice equally loud so as to be sure that the bakery owner would hear him.

As soon as he finished talking, there was a loud clatter of what Oikawa assumed were kitchen ustensils and hurried footsteps could be heard.

The bakery owner made his appearance the next second out of breath and looking a little panicked. Oikawa raised a curious eyebrow at the display.

“Apologies for the delay, Your Majesty. I didn’t know you were coming today.”

Oikawa’s mouth turned into a smirk as he noted the way the baker recognized him by his voice alone. “Now now, Sugawara-san, I recall telling you to not call me that.” Oikawa replied, leaning ever so slightly and casually along the counter. “You know that title is reserved to my parents. I’m just their spoiled brat son.”

Sugawara wasn’t able to control his expression this time, Oikawa noted as he watched the man’s eyes widen upon hearing the language Oikawa used.

The sight was way too endearing and Oikawa couldn’t help the chuckle he let out.

“Wha–” Sugawara cleared his throat, his cheeks turning a cute shade of pink. “What title should I use for you, then?”

“Mmh,” Oikawa hummed, pretending to think about the response for a few more moments. “How about you just call me by my name?” He said in a suggestive tone, smirking.

Sugawara spluttered, his eyes widening and eyebrows shooting all the way up to his hairline as his face turned bright red. Oikawa bursted out laughing.

“I couldn’t possibly!” Sugawara exclaimed, way louder than necessary.

“You let me call you by your name, though,” Oikawa pouted, clearly amused by the other man’s reactions.

Sugawara huffed unbelievably. “That’s different, you could call me Suga or even Koushi and I wouldn’t mind. You, however, are the prince!” He gestured in Oikawa’s direction, as if talking to a child who did not understand the concept of social classes.

Oikawa did not pay any mind to that, though. Instead, he raised a suggestive eyebrow and leaned closer to the other man on the counter. “So I can call you by your first name?” He asked, his smirk widening by the seconds.

Sugawara’s face looked as if it just caught fire.

Oikawa didn’t stop smirking but decided to take pity on the poor baker. “Don’t worry I’m teasing you,” he said amusedly. Sugawara’s shoulders visibly relaxed at that.

But because he’s a little shit, Oikawa couldn’t help but add before winking obnoxiously: “I’ll use your first name once we’ll have had our first date.”

He couldn’t help but laugh when Sugawara almost tripped over his own feet as he tried to get away from Oikawa’s intense flirting — surely to prepare the man’s order.

Because Oikawa didn’t even need to tell him what he wanted and Sugawara would always know anyway. The thought warmed Oikawa’s heart.

He felt a bit bad and hoped he didn’t genuinely made the baker uncomfortable, but the main reason why Oikawa loved coming here — apart from the fact that Sugawara is downright gorgeous — was the fact that Oikawa could be himself.

There wasn’t any servant following him or parents watching him. No. In a corner of the Main Street, in this small bakery owned by an angel, Oikawa could be his true self.

And Sugawara never told him off, so Oikawa took that as a win. He had a feeling that, even though the man is often blushing at his open flirting, Sugawara wasn’t one to give a piece of his own mind when needed.

And Oikawa has yet to have gotten said piece, so as long as he was concerned, he was in the clear.

Sugawara handed him a bag containing all of Oikawa’s favorite pastries and Oikawa smiled fondly, thanking him. Sugawara nodded and smiled in return.

Oikawa paid for his pastries and, just when he was about to leave, he opened his mouth one last time. “Can I really call you Suga?” He asked, tone softer and more genuine than earlier.

Sugawara seemed to notice the change as well because a gentle smile settled on his face. “Of course,” he replied.

Oikawa’s smile widened and he nodded happily. He started making his way to the front door and, just before opening it, Oikawa turned his head to the side without completely turning around.

He locked eyes with Sugawara, who raised a curious eyebrow at him. “I wasn’t joking about the date by the way! It’s the next step in my wooing plan, Suga-chan~”

Oikawa winked and passed the door, leaving a flabbergasted, heavily blushing Sugawara behind his counter. Oikawa couldn’t help the grin on his face that stayed there for the entire day.

No matter how hard to get Sugawara would decide to play, Oikawa has never been one to back down from a challenge. Mark his words, he would make this man his.
