Chapter Text

Noh Hakyung impatiently taps her foot against the floor of the train cabin. She checks her watch and groans. Oh god, she’s going to be late for work again.

The train slows to a halt as they reach the next station and the doors ping open. She hurriedly squeezes past the crowded carriage and hops onto the platform. She makes a run toward the exit but in her haste, fails to see the woman in front of her.

They crash into each other and her folder of papers fly into the air. She braces herself for impact but she never hits the ground because a pair of strong arms wrap around her and stops her fall.

Instead, Hakyung falls into the deepest brown eyes she’s ever seen and all she can do is stare as she’s hit with the strongest deja vu.

That face. This moment.

It feels like she’s lived this before.

Hakyung is hit by a sudden vision—or a distant memory, she cannot tell—of two women in the exact same predicament. But instead they’re in elaborate traditional garments in the middle of what looks to be the royal palace.

The woman gently steadies her which snaps her out of her trance. She quickly squats down to pick up her scattered papers and the stranger wordlessly does the same. They reach for the same sheet and when their fingers touch, Hakyung feels lighting shoot through her veins.

The stranger recoils as if she felt the exact same thing.

Their eyes meet once more; gazes filled with tension and questions. In the middle of this bustling train station with mobs of people rushing past, are two women for whom time has stood still.

“Have we met before?”

The woman’s voice tugs Hakyung back into the present. Her eyes fall to the nametag at the end of her ID lace. Lee Dami, it reads.

She replies softly, as though in a daze, “I don’t know…”

Now, Hakyung’s not one to shamelessly flirt with strangers, especially during such a random interaction. But something about this girl makes her heart beat erratically in a way that makes her want to run and shout for joy. Something about her eyes brings her an odd sense of comfort. Something about her makes Hakyung honest.

“But I feel like I’ve already loved you for a lifetime.”
