Tim Drake leaves Gotham. Damian Wayne becomes Robin.

We were sorting through our security camera footage and came upon some disturbing videos of Robin 5:

[Video: Robin 3 and Robin 5 swinging through the buildings. Robin 5 stops mid-swing and diverts to another rooftop, watching Robin 3's line snap and making no move to help. Robin 5 grabs onto a ledge. Barely.

Robin 5 yells something unintelligible, and Robin 3 responds, horrified: You cut my line?

The date and time flash onscreen and the video ends.]

i don't hate damian i promise

i just think him becoming robin was Stupid and Contrived and-

yes i have them refer to tim as the savior robin because HE SAVED GOTHAM FROM BATMAN AND BATMAN FROM BATMAN, TOO. I WILL SCREAM THIS UNTIL THE WORLD UNDERSTANDS.

A Note: in the end notes I go into more detail, but I was getting hate comments so comments are now disabled. The one comment I replied to (it actually backed up the argument) I said that I didn't focus on Tim much. Apparently I was suffering from amnesia. While Tim himself is not focused on, the impression he left on Gotham and the standards he upheld are touched on constantly. He sort of haunts this fic. I apologize to that commenter because I was wrong IN THAT SPECIFIC PART OF MY ARGUMENT. I just wanted to clarify.

new robin dropped: classist brat. can we bring robin 3 back?

[Video: a little kid, maybe 6 years old, walks up to Robin. The kid's face is blurred out. Robin scoffs at him. 

Kid: Hi!

Robin, in an icy tone: What do you want?

The kid freezes. 

Kid: Um, Robin used to bring us food and toys and stuff. And he, um, didn't show up. So we were maybe wondering if you could tell us if he's okay?

Robin: I have never brought any of you urchins food.

The kid flinches at the word 'urchin.'

Kid: N-Not you. Other Robin. 

Robin: There were no other Robins. The rest were mere imposters. 

Kid: But there were? Savior Robin plays with us all the time and- name is bleeped out - talks about how Alley Robin used to bring blankets in winter. 

Robin: I am the blood son of Batman! Robin is mine! Those fools were placeholders! Honestly, imagine wasting time on street trash. It is no wonder Drake was ousted.

Kid: Robin is gone?

Robin: I am Robin!

The kid shrinks back, shaking their head.

Kid: You're mean! I hate you!

The camera shakes and the video ends.]

The video opens onto a PowerPoint presentation, accompanied by an increasingly harried voiceover.

 

"This is Robin 5. Robin 5 has recently been accused of classicism, blood superiority, and trying to murder Robin 3."

 

"I'm here to break down these accusations. It all started with a post by @goofysillyshenaniganery, uploading a video of a young crime alley kid asking Robin a question and being called 'street trash' in response."

 

"Later, @trixiethompson posted an audio recording of Robin asserting his superiority due to his apparent status as Batman's blood son. He's also repeatedly described the other Robins as 'placeholders' and Savior Robin as 'interloper.'"

"I wouldn't trust Robin 5. From all I've seen- most of which is linked in the bio- Robin 5 is an arrogant, spoiled brat. He has some kind of blood superiority complex and is intensely classist. He thinks the other Robins are 'placeholders' and 'interlopers'- I don't know, that doesn't sit right with me. They are heroes. They've all sacrificed so much for Gotham."

 

Beat.

 

"RIP Robin 2."

 

Beat.

 

"He also tried to murder another hero? If they aren't safe, am I? I don't think so. Be wary."

Okay. I was flooded with hate comments so they're now disabled. Sorry to all wonderful people who enjoyed this fic, and to the idiots who want shout 'racist' without any actual reasons: go fuck yourselves.

I have deleted all but one of the comments crying 'racist' (because that's the only one that attempted to gather reasons and make an argument and I respect that) but I would like to say, to the person who made this now-deleted comment:

"starring the authors barely hidden fetish: hating on kids of colour because it helps them bust a nut
honestly i don't know what i expected from a t*m dr*ke fan, they're all just pure racist"

First and foremost, fuck you. I'd also like to say that thought I'm white passing, I am Chinese. (while damian is Arab and... Chinese(?), he is also Very Commonly drawn as white-passing. like me.)

I also love how you brought sex into this in order to try and make people uncomfortable. That was so mature of you.

Did you just call an entire group of fans racist? My guy, you're the one making this about skin color. If you can't handle any criticism of a person of color- a fictional person of color at that- then maybe you are the one who is making everything ABOUT skin color. This is why it is so difficult to criticize the actions of ANY person of color in media. People will always cry racism.

Am I going to deny that some of the CANONICAL CHOICES that the authors made were racist? Absolutely not. They were. But that isn't on the fans. It is so clearly not on the fans that I can't even begin to comprehend how you could blame that on the Tim fans.

I'm not "hating on kids of color" I'm exploring something called Consequences of Actions. If a white kid did what Damian did, I'd still be sitting here explaining how and why that was Not Okay.

Finally, I find it really funny how you censored Tim's name. It's giving He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named. It's giving "fear of a name only increases fear of the thing itself." It's very stupid. I do thank you for being funny, though, because I was legitimately SHAKING with laughter when I read that.

Moving on! Let's address some things:

I have never described Damian as feral, will never describe Damian as feral, it's actually one of my personal requirements when I efit my fics- if Damian is called feral, even as as an offhand joke, even as a one-liner I forgot I wrote by the time I was done, I will remove it. Because it is racist to call Damian feral. That's WHY I DON'T.

Don't cry to me saying I'm racist for disliking a character for their canonical actions. You do realize how stupid that sounds, right? It might have been racist writing- the change in the depiction of the Al Ghuls post-Damian was especially racist- but that isn't the fault of the people who consumed that writing. 'Tim fans are all racist,' you cry, as you make a generalization based on one pretty superficial trait. I believe that people say this because they don't want to blame the actually racist writing for racist stereotypes.

Holding someone accountable is not the same thing as hating on them. I can see how this fic is seen as hating on Damian- that's WHY I TAGGED IT AS DAMIAN WAYNE BASHING. I would like to say that I actually do enjoy Damian as a character, I just think more people need to Hold Him Accountable. This is Outsider POV which is why it is so mean to Damian. Because I think if I was an outsider watching one of Gotham's *heroes* be constantly insulted and demeaned by a newcomer I would dislike that newcomer. I don't consider this bashing him as a character, I consider this bashing his actions and the people around him who did not correct them.

I love how the Damian fans SAW A FIC TAGGED AS DAMIAN BASHING, read it, and proceeded to be surprised when it wasn't Nice To Damian. I'm sorry you chose to ignore the tags, ig.

I also love how none of them bothered to read my responses or the actual fic. They defaulted to "Salty Tim Stan Racist, Fanon Sad Boi, Damian Evil and Feral, Never Read a Comic". That is... also a stereotype. They are arguing against racism while stereotyping me. They... they don't see the irony there.

For the record, I never described Tim as a 'sad little meow meow' and I never will because that isn't who he is. To the commenter who said that: did you READ THE FUCKING FIC? God.

Once again thank you to the person who actually gave reasons and presented an argument. While we disagree and you seem to hold some ideas about a 'mindset' that Tim fans... apparently have (one I did not know about, as a Tim fan) and I think you're wrong, you were civil in debating with me. I respect that you took the time to back up your accusations and I respect that you were the one to say 'I think we disagree so let's just let this go.'
