The Texas heat was suffocating. Hermione’s hair hung loose around her face, escaping from her braid, and clung to the back of her neck. She was thankful she decided to wear a thin white tank top and denim shorts. Anything else would have miserably stuck to the back of her legs.
Tonight she was wearing her favorite accessory, her bright red Tacovas. The boots were a little bit of a splurge, but she took one look at herself in the mirror, admired the intricate stitching and knew they were worth it.
She stepped out of Ginny’s boyfriend’s truck onto the red clay and slammed the door, the hinge creaking loudly.
“Hey, watch it,” Harry said playfully, “The truck is an antique.”
Ginny rolled her eyes, “Harry, babe. Relax.”
Hermione and Ginny had grown up together and it was a summer tradition for them to attend the Sanford Valley rodeo. When Ginny and Harry started dating, he started tagging along. Wherever Ginny went, he was sure to follow.
The smell of hot dogs and funnel cakes hit Hermione’s nose and a fresh wave of nostalgia washed over her. “Okay, once we are through the gates, I need a hot dog.”
“Yes, we know,” Ginny responded with a joking eye roll. She locked arms with Hermione and they started towards the entrance. Hermione dug the tickets out of her pocket and handed them over to the gate attendant. Once their tickets were scanned, they bee-lined to the first hot dog stand they spotted.
Once Hermione and Ginny made it through the line and made their purchases, they trotted back to Harry who patiently stood off the way.
“Let’s go find our seats,” Harry said once they had returned to his side. He placed his hand on Ginny's back and maneuvered them towards the stands. The trio walked around, absorbing the intoxicating energy and reveling in the excitement until they found their section, making their way down to the first row.
“These are great seats, Mione,” Ginny said in disbelief as she looked around the arena from their new vantage point.
“Thanks Gin. I still can’t believe I was able to snag them.”
This was the first year they were close enough to actually see the bull riders. Another unexpected perk, they were now near the bull shoot. Usually they were further away and could barely see anything, but this year Hermione was determined to be as close as possible. She had her eyes set on one bull rider.
Draco Malfoy.
He was the hot rookie from Tennessee and the inspiration behind so many of Hermione’s dreams lately. He was built like a brick house and incredibly tall. He stood at least a head taller than Harry, and Harry was no short man. Draco had dirty blonde hair, a gorgeously chiseled jawline, but his most captivating feature was without a doubt his eyes. They were the bluest shade Hermione had ever seen.
They weren’t sitting long before the announcer boomed over the loudspeaker, “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the East Texas Circuit! Please join me in giving these fine riders a Texas-sized welcome!”
Hermione watched as leather clad men sauntered into the arena. She immediately noticed the bright red hair of Ron Weasley, followed by Theo Nott’s notorious colorful button down, and Blaise Zabini’s signature red cowboy hat. But no Draco Malfoy.
Where was he?
She craned her neck as she kept looking. Finally, she spotted him standing towards the back. As the men filed onto the dirt pitch and settled in for the introductions, she thanked God that she had the perfect view from their new seats. Draco wore a tight black fitted button down with dark denim jeans and on top of his dirty blonde hair was a cowboy hat as black as night. The jeans hugged him in all the right places and Hermione felt her mouth start to water.
Ginny nudged her with a boney elbow, breaking through her thoughts. “You have a little bit of drool on the side of your lip, just there,” the redhead added, covering her mouth as she tried to hide a laugh.
“Oh, shut up!” Hermione exclaimed and swatted her hand away. “You act like I didn’t see you googling pictures of Theo the other night.”
“Well, can you blame a girl? I would love to be in between Harry and Theo. Just imagine,” Ginny sighed wistfully. She winked back at Hermione as she took a sip of draft beer from her red solo cup.
“If you are done drooling over cowboys, I would like to enjoy the show,” Harry interrupted with a laugh.
Ginny and Harry had a very secure relationship and he was used to Ginny’s antics. She joked a lot but there was no doubt that she would always be loyal to Harry, and vice versa.
The group settled in to watch the first set of riders and their eyes were glued to the arena before them. Each rider took turns passing around a hat containing chips with a bull’s name on it. Whichever bull they chose, they had no choice but to ride it and pray that they could remain seated for eight seconds to qualify for the next round.
Some of the riders looked at their chips with excitement or nervousness. But not Draco. When he pulled his chip out of the hat, Hermione could see the miniscule clench of his jaw from the large screen on the other side of the arena.
“Oh no,” Ginny said, “He does not look too happy with his bull.”
“He must have gotten Wild Card. No one has been able to stay on that bull for a full eight seconds yet,” Harry exclaimed.
Hermione’s eyes grew wide at Harry’s statement.
One by one, each rider took to the arena with their assigned bull and tried to stay on for a full eight seconds. Eight seconds didn’t sound like a lot of time, but staying on a bull as it kicked, bucked and jumped around wildly… well that was a very long eight seconds.
First up was Theo, paired with Battle Scar who was not quite as notorious as Wild Card, but still a force to be reckoned with. It was a close call, but he just barely managed to stay long enough to make it to the next round. The other riders followed in quick succession. About half were able to stay on their mount and move onto the next round, while the others unfortunately did not.
The crowd hushed and the air was thick with anticipation as they waited for the final bull and rider. This last ride was all anyone could talk about between rounds, and now that the moment was here, Hermione found herself clutching tight onto the rail in front of her. Finally, it was Draco’s turn to take to the arena. Hermione nervously watched as he swiftly lowered himself onto the bull that waited for him in the shoot.
“Now our next rider, Draco Malfoy,” the announcer boomed over the speaker, “He will be riding the infamous Wild Card. The only bull that has yet to be rode for a full eight seconds. Can the rookie be the first one to tame the beast?”
Hermione looked up to the jumbo screen to get a better look at Draco's face. He had a look of determination painted across his features, his jaw was set and his piercing blue eyes were locked straight ahead. the muscles in his forearms tightened when he slid his hand through the rope at the bull’s neck.
She watched with rapt attention as he took a deep breath and methodically wrapped the rope around his hand. The way he pulled the rope tighter and tighter around his palm, lashing himself to the bull had Hermione slightly worried for his circulation. She was so mesmerized by Draco that she jumped when the buzzer went off and the gate slammed open.
Wild Card immediately shot out of the pen, kicking and spinning his way to the middle of the arena as he tried to buck Draco off. But he was going nowhere. His hand flew wildly at his side and overhead as he attempted to keep his balance while the bull continued to thrash beneath him.
“Wow, he might actually do it!” Harry proclaimed, his voice laced with shock and awe.
Hermione tore her eyes from Draco to look at the clock on the screen as it slowly counted up. This was beginning to feel like the longest eight seconds of her life.

BUZZZZZZZ
The timer went off the moment Draco was thrown off the bull and the clock flashed exactly eight seconds flat. The sound of the buzzer was drowned by the raucous cheers of the crowd.
On the last buck from Wild Card, Draco’s cowboy hat had flown off his head and landed on the other side of the barrier right in front of Hermione. As everyone around her jumped and yelled in celebration, she bent down to pick up the hat. With her arm hung over the side of the wall, she tried to get Draco’s attention.
“Hey, Cowboy!” she yelled over the noise while waving his hat in the air. “You dropped this.”
He stopped and spun his head when he heard his name, an unexpected grin gracing one side of his mouth. He then turned the rest of his body and began to saunter his way over to her. Hermione’s pulse thundered and she felt like her heart was going to burst out of her chest. His hair clung to his forehead, dripping with sweat. As he grew nearer, she could see just how tall he was in person. It took everything in her to remain calm.
“You dropped this,” she repeated, sounding more nervous than she cared to admit. Her sudden confidence disappeared as he stepped closer to her.
Their eyes were locked onto one another as he reached for the hat. When his fingertips latched onto the brim, he paused for a second before finally saying, “You keep it.” He raised his hand and placed the hat on her head, “It looks better on you anyways.” He punctuated the statement with a wink and turned to walk away.
“Holy fuck,” Hermione mumbled under her breath, her gaze following his retreating form.
“Hermione, that was single handedly the hottest fucking thing I’ve ever seen,” Ginny shrieked with excitement.
All Hermione could do was nod. The words were lost in her mouth as she replayed what had just happened over again in her mind.
“Alright ladies, that was the last ride of the night—let's head to the bar,” Harry suggested, standing up from the metal bleachers.
“Maybe Hermione will get lucky and her hot cowboy will be there. I’ve heard that when the rodeo is in town, they all end up at this one bar afterwards,” Ginny gleefully exclaimed.
“This is not one of those raunchy cowboy romance novels you like to read,” Hermione laughed.
“It could be.” Ginny wiggled her eyebrows.
“Oh, shut up.” Hermione rolled her eyes and gave Ginny a playful shove. They made the short walk to The Broken Arrow, a tiny hole in the wall bar.
They flashed their ID’s to the bouncer at the door and made their way to the high top tables near the pool tables.
“I’ll be right back, I’m going to head over to the bar and grab a few beers.” Harry leaned down to kiss Ginny on the top of her head before making his way through the thick crowd.
Hermione noticed the live band in the corner and started to dance in her seat to one of her favorite songs. Harry returned shortly with their drinks and found a few guys to play pool with while Ginny and Hermione watched and gossiped.
Hermione had just witnessed someone hit the yellow three ball into a corner pocket when Ginny grabbed her arm. “Holy shit, look who just walked in.”
Hermione glanced over her shoulder and saw Draco Malfoy walk through the door. He had Theo and Blaise in tow and his head swivelled around the bar almost as if he was looking for someone. Theo clapped him on the shoulder and whispered something in his ear. When Draco’s eyes finally landed on her, the smirk that broke across his face spelled trouble.
“Babes, I can feel the sexual tension from here,” Ginny giggled into her ear.
“Oh my god. Ginny, is he coming this way?” Hermione asked under her breath, quickly turning back around to face Ginny.
“He’s headed to the bar now,” Ginny said as she craned her neck to get a better view, “Drink secured. Okay now he’s headed this way.” Hermione steeled her nerves, willing her racing heart to slow down just a fraction.
“Shit! How do I look?” Hermione started to straighten her top, frantically smoothing her hands over her front when Ginny reached over to pull the hem down some. “Gin, what are you doing?”
“You have great tits, Hermione. Show them off!” she said as Hermione batted her hands away.
His cologne hit her nose first, a mix of leather and tobacco. Hermione almost moaned out loud at his intoxicating scent.
“Good evening, ladies,” he drawled as he approached their table.
“Hello,” Hermione managed to squeak out.
“Hey, this is Hermione,” Ginny jested, smiling and she poked Hermione in the ribs with a pointy elbow. “I’m Ginny and off to find my boyfriend.” She hopped down from her seat and mouthed ‘Good luck!’ to Hermione before skipping away into the crowd.
Wow, thanks Ginny, she thought sarcastically.
She gave him a shy smile and held out her hand. “I’m Hermione,” she uttered. Instead of Draco shaking her hand like she expected, he grabbed her offered palm and pulled it closer to him. He lowered his head and softly pressed his lips to her knuckles. Heat immediately began to pool in her lower belly.
“A beautiful name for a beautiful girl,” he said, his eyes twinkling as he took up the seat Ginny had vacated.
“I’m sure you say that to all the girls”, she teased and rolled her eyes playfully.
“No, just you darling.” He flashed her a smile and tipped his bottle of beer towards her. She watched his throat as he swallowed the beer and thought about how she would love to lick the sweat off the side of his neck. Fuck. Her thoughts were venturing into dangerous territory.
Sweet Jesus, Hermione, get yourself together.
“So, what did you think of the show?” he asked offhandedly as he started to pick at the label of his beer bottle.
“I had an amazing time, I always do. It’s a tradition for us to go every summer.” Hermione tried to play it cool but was doing a poor job at masking her excitement.
To help calm her nerves, she would just avoid looking at his face. Instead, she began to focus on his hands. Which looked glorious. Now that she was looking, couldn’t keep her eyes off of them. His hands were large and calloused, dwarfing the glass bottle they were wrapped around. Hermione’s mind unwittingly drifted to imagining those same hands running down her body.
“Do you follow the rodeo circuit then?” he asked her.
Nope, just you.
“Not really. It's just something to do in this small town,” she replied. “What about you?”
“I just joined the circuit. I like the adrenaline rush. It’s my rookie year, but I’m sure you knew that,” Draco added with a knowing smile. He crossed his arms over his broad chest causing the already tight fabric to stretch over his muscles and leaned forward on the table.
A loud laugh from across the room caught Hermione’s attention. She cast a glance over her shoulder and saw Theo chuckling at something Harry had said.
“Your friend is a little loud.”
“Jackass always has to be the center of attention,” Draco scoffed lightheartedly. He suddenly rose from his stool and offered her his hand. “Would you like to dance?”
Hermione nodded, answering him by placing her hand in his as they moved towards the dance floor. It was starting to feel like a series of fated circumstances had led her to this very moment. Hermione counted her lucky stars as she let herself be led through the packed dance floor to an opening in the crowd.
Once they made it to the small clearing, Draco planted his large hands on her waist and pulled her against his chest. In the same movement, Hermione brought her arms up to lace them around his neck. And being here in his embrace, swaying to the music, it was the most natural feeling in the world. She craned her neck back to look into his eyes and saw heat in his gaze.
As the music changed, he took one of her hands in his and wrapped the other securely around her back as they moved about the dance floor. The longer they danced without a word being exchanged, the tension between them continued to coil to a near breaking point. Draco was the first to speak, breaking the hypnotic spell she had fallen under.
“I see you still have my hat on,” he mused, tightening his hand around hers and pointing with his finger to the hat still atop her head.
“I think I’m going to keep it,” she declared, grinning mischievously.
He spun her around to the music before pulling her in close again. “Well you know what they say if you wear a cowboy’s hat, right?”
Her eyes flitted to the brim of the hat in her periphery before returning his gaze. She shook her head no as his arms curled around her.
He lowered his face right to hers and whispered in her ear, “It means you have to ride the cowboy.” He pulled back and looked into her eyes, his own shining with mirth.
“You think I’m a one-night stand kind of girl?” she countered with a raised eyebrow.
“Trust me darling, this won’t be a one time thing.”
Cocky bastard.
“Alright, Cowboy,” she challenged, her eyes fixated on his plush lips. “Let me take you for a ride.”
Draco didn’t hesitate as he crashed his mouth to hers. He tasted like sin and Hermione knew she was in a heap of trouble. He brought his hand up to cup her cheek and his fingers found the nape of her neck, tangling in her wild curls. He anchored her to him with one of his large hands, finding purchase at her waist as he pulled her even closer. She lightly bit his lower lip and she heard him let out a deep chuckle.
“Careful, darling. We don’t want to cause a scene in front of everyone.”
Hermione felt one of his hands travel up her spine to grip the end of her braid. He lightly pulled on the strands, causing her neck to elongate as her head tilted back as far as it could go.
“What do you say we get out of here?” he asked, his question coming out slightly strained. He craned his head down to nuzzle her neck and plant suggestive kisses from her ear to her collarbone.
Her pulse quickened at his brazenness.
“Now who’s the one causing a scene?” she managed to ask even though over the last few minutes she had become nearly breathless.
“I guess I just can’t help myself around you,” he whispered into her skin. “Answer the question, Hermione.”
“Please,” Hermione whimpered.
“Yes ma’am.”
Draco grabbed her by the hand and quickly led her out the bar after motioning to Theo across the bar. She heard someone whistle behind them and without turning her head she just knew it was Ginny. Draco responded with a casual wave over his shoulder. They walked hand in hand for a few minutes before they arrived at the entrance of an upscale hotel.
“I was expecting a run down Motel 8, not the Ritz Carlton,” Hermione said in wonder as they made their way inside and watched Draco nod to the doorman.
“I would never,” he teased, placing his hand on her lower back as he pulled her into the elevator with him. “I am a gentleman after all.”
Hermione quirked an eyebrow at that. Somehow she didn’t quite believe him.
Draco hit the button for the penthouse floor and the doors started to close. Before the doors were even closed all the way, his large hands traveled lower, grabbing under her ass and picking her up. Hermione instinctively wrapped her legs around his waist and he walked forward until her back was flush against the wall of the elevator.
Their mouths met in a frenzy and Hermione found it hard to ignore his large bulge pressing against her center. A whimper escaped her lips at the sensation and she rocked against him, eliciting a low throaty groan from him. His fingers dug possessively into the flesh of her behind as he continued his relentless assault against her lips. Hermione was so lost in their kiss that when the elevator pinged to let them know they had arrived to their floor, she jumped in surprise and accidentally bit Draco.
“Easy there, darling,” he chuckled, his tongue flicking out to soothe the spot on his lip. “You can bite me anywhere you’d like once we get to my room.”
Hermione smiled at his cheek, and leaned forward in his embrace to nip at his lip again just because she could. When she tried to hop out of his arms, he tightened his grip and started to walk them out of the elevator and to his room.
Once they got to his door he stopped and asked her, “Do you mind reaching in my back pocket and grabbing my wallet? The key card should be right in front.”
Hermione nodded and reached her arms around his waist and secured his wallet, pulling out the key card and handing it over. He took it from her and held it to the door until the lock clicked. He didn’t let her down once they were inside like she expected. Instead, he led her straight back through the doorway leading to the bedroom suite.
Draco finally released her onto the bed and Hermione immediately rose up to her elbows as she watched him come up to hover over, his knees bracketing her hips and his face wearing a devilish smirk. Balancing on one hand, he brought the other up to pull the hat off her head and set it on the side table.
“Wait a second,” Hermione paused momentarily before continuing, “I thought I was going to ride the cowboy?” She flashed him her own grin.
“Trust me.” He leaned down and placed wet, open-mouthed kisses to her neck, causing heat to pool low in her belly and a moan to rise from her throat. “You will get your turn.”
Draco resumed his kisses along her jugular and continued down her body, peeling away her clothes as he went. She keened under the warmth of his lips and the roughness of his calloused hands. When he reached her navel, he deftly unbuttoned her jean shorts and paused, shamelessly staring at her lacey bottoms before swiftly removing them with his teeth. He placed several more kisses on her inner thigh and mound, then descended like a man starved.
Hermione brought her hands up and fisted them in his short strands as he licked and laved and worshiped her body. She writhed under his attention and she bucked her hips against his tongue.
“More,” she moaned.
Draco brought his head up and chuckled darkly. “You want more? Well all you had to do was ask.”
He returned to her cunt, lapping up her arousal with fervour. His eagerness alone had her so wet and God, she didn’t know what to do with her hands except pull him closer. The pressure in her core was rising higher and higher, but when he thrust two of his fingers into her while his tongue still sucked at her clit, she detonated.
Hermione came down from her orgasm and her heart was beating like a pack of wild horses as she watched Draco lift his face, his mouth dripping from her climax. He stood from the bed, smirking like he had just won for a second time that day, and proceeded to lift his shirt up and over his head.
His body was even more deliciously muscular than his tight clothing had led on. She licked her lips and her eyes followed his hands as they moved to undo his belt, letting the longhorn buckle drop to the floor, followed by his briefs. She openly gawked at the glorious sight before her. His cock was definitely proportionate to the rest of his body—long, thick and already leaking for her.
Draco crawled back over to her, running a finger along her slit, admiring the mess he made.
“All of this, for me?”
The sensation of his hands on her body and the gruffness of his voice was making it difficult for her to form her own words, let alone a coherent thought. All she could manage was a small nod.
He brushed a stray curl from her face and kissed her deeply. With their foreheads pressed together Draco lined himself up at her entrance. He latched onto her pulse point as he slowly sunk in. The stretch was almost too much for Hermione and her hands came up to grip his arms tightly for support.
“You can take it, love,” he breathed into her hair and she relaxed, giving in to the burn. “Gotta break you in a bit first.”
Draco lowered his head and sucked a nipple into his mouth while his fingers circled and lightly pinched the other. His shallow thrusts grew deeper, and when he bottomed out, she swore she saw actual stars.
He kept a steady rhythm and she met his pace easily, her hands now digging into the hard muscle of his forearms. As she felt another pressure begin to build in her core, she clenched around him once before pushing Draco to his back. He fell back easily, wordlessly grinning up at her as he watched her knees straddled around his hips, hovering over his throbbing cock.
Hermione braced her hands on Draco’s still heaving chest, teasing his cock as she rubbed her slick up and down his length. His eyes were transfixed on her glistening cunt as she lifted herself up ever so slightly, circling the top of his leaking tip. He threw his head back in delicious frustration and let out a fuck under his breath. He seemed to have had enough of her little game, he gripped her hips hard and thrusted up into her in one solid movement. They collectively moaned as he impaled her on his cock.
“Hey, it’s my turn,” she said breathlessly.
Draco reached over to the bedside table, grabbed his cowboy hat and put it on top of Hermione’s head.
“Then ride me, darling.”
She laughed, tipped the hat in his direction, and began to ride him vigorously. Each rise and slam of her hips had his eyes rolling to back of his head. His jaw had gone slack and he looked up at her like she was the prized trophy itself.
Chasing her pleasure from the effect and control she had over him, she arched her back further and ground her hips back and forth. He whimpered, digging his fingers into the flesh of her ass and she could tell he was nearing the edge.
Her own orgasm rolled out in waves as she grew slack on top of him. He ran his hands up the length of her spine and pulled her flush against him. He thrust up into her a few more times until she felt him gush deep inside her. He gathered her against his chest, kissing the top of her dampened curls while they caught their breath. He rolled them over onto their sides and draped his arms around her, trailing more lazy kisses down her neck to her shoulder.
Hermione tried to let herself bask in the afterglow while wrapped in Draco’s comforting embrace, but she couldn’t keep her mind from racing.
He said at the bar that this wasn’t going to be a one night thing, but after all of that , it almost seemed too good to be true. Hoping for more than one night felt foolish now. She started to gather the sheet to her chest as she made to get up from the bed and find her clothes.
A warm hand latched around her wrist, holding her in place.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
She turned to look at him and gave him a reluctant smile. She tried to squash down the rising hope in her chest as her eyes found his. A lazy, satisfied grin was on his face and Hermione’s main thought coursing through her brain was ‘You’re in some deep shit, girl.’
Draco leaned forward, wrapping his other arm around her middle and pulled her back against his chest. Her head fell back to his shoulder and she let out a wistful sigh.
“I know I said that I’m not a one-night stand type, but–”
“You aren’t. And neither am I.” He pressed a soft kiss to her neck–his lips leaving an unspoken promise. “Stay with me tonight?”
“And what about tomorrow?” She turned around in his arms to face him.
“Well I’d like to take you on a proper date. Would you like to go to dinner with me?”
Hermione couldn’t hold back her laugh at his ridiculous question.
“Of course I will.” Like there was a possibility the answer was going to be anything else.
“Great–breakfast and lunch as well? I hear the hotel has excellent room service,” he added with a devious smile.
She smiled and said the only thing that came to mind, “Sounds absolutely perfect.”
