Work Text:

Saitama walks along an empty street with buildings reduced to piles of rubble and ash. There was no one else in sight. He continues walking to survey the damage, and to find whatever monster did this. In his focused state he nearly stepped on something metal.

It’s an arm. Genos must be nearby, torn up like always. He picks up the arm, well what's left of it, and continues his search. There was still no sign of anyone, only Genos' strewn about parts. Saitama begins to worry as he finds part of the cyborgs torso among the rubble. The bald hero quickens his haste to find his student. His anxiety rising as he finds more destroyed parts. He rounds the corner and a gasp that he cannot be certain actually came from him was heard. The cyborg was face down in the dirt, nothing more than the upper torso and head.

"Genos." he walks over and nudges him "What kind of trouble did you get yourself into?"

No response.

"Genos?"

Nothing.

"Genos get up!" pushing the teen over, his breath caught in his throat. Genos' synthetic face was mostly torn apart, his metal jaw broken, the gold iris of his eyes had gone dull, his chest area was more torn than Saitama initially thought, and the bright blue orb that had the obnoxious "CORE" written all over it...

Gone.

The one thing keeping Genos' body running was gone. Without it his brain would die.
"Genos." Saitama picked up the torso under the destroyed arm sockets "Genos, wake up. You have to have like a backup power unit right?" he shook the body "The doc wouldn't be stupid right?"
The torso just stared blankly back at him. Saitama sat down and set the body in his lap.
This had to be fake. There was no way that Genos could have died. The kid always got chewed up but he was always fine.
"You just need new parts right?" Saitama tried to convince himself.
The weight of the body. The feel of the metal against his skin, and how cold the metal was. How utterly silent everything was.
"Genos.. c'mon this isn't funny." Saitama gripped the top of the shoulders "Wake up already..." wrapping his arms around the torso and embracing it, desperate to hear the whirring of his fans. "Just say something...please." the metal beneath his fingertips began to give and crack underneath the force of his grip.

"Sensei!" now he talks, weird it sounds like faraway yelling "Sensei please wake up!"

Saitama's eyes burst open as he lets go of his roommate. Genos backs off, metal legs tangled in a blanket, obviously afraid and confused. A hand grazed where Saitama had crushed his arm. Broken bits of metal fall to the floor. The bald man can barely bring himself to move as his body rejects any air he brings in. He doesn't know what to do with himself. His brain is screaming run but his body won't move. His heart pounding so hard it felt as if it would burst from his body. He can't remember the last time he felt like this but he didn't like it.

Genos approached cautiously "Saitama-sensei?" reaching out his good arm, as his fingers made contact with Saitama's skin the older man retreated into himself. Everything became blurry and Saitama felt bile crawl up his throat. Sensing this Genos quickly retrieved the waste bin from beside Saitama's desk. The stomach acid burned at his esophagus and he whimpered between each lurch of his gut. But he felt worse that he was throwing up the great dinner Genos had made.

Genos had gotten up to turn the kitchen light on and grab a glass of water. Somehow with in this time span he also replaced his broken arm. Returning to his teacher’s side glass of water and towel in hand. He wiped at Saitama's face while handing him the glass. In his shaken state Saitama gripped the glass with too much force and shattered it. Genos cleaned it up without a word, the warmth of his body hitting Saitama's skin. Genos was quickly embraced and held so closely his joints creaked, but Saitama felt the warmth of the metal, he heard the whir of the fans. The sound of Genos struggling made him loosen his grip but he did not let go. Saitama buried his face in Genos' chest, feeling how solid the metal form was. The quiet pulse the core gave.

"Sensei?"

Saitama laid them back on the futon, Genos' half way on top of him. Despite the awkward position Saitama appreciated the weight of the cyborgs body. Like this he didn't feel as though he would just shoot off at any second. Genos shifted to look at Saitama's face in the dim light from the kitchen. He was covered in sweat and held his eyes closed focusing on his breathing.

"Sensei do you need me to help with anything?"

Saitama opened his eyes and shook his head, not trusting his voice at that moment. He grabbed Genos' thigh and guided the borg so that the metal leg wrapped around Saitama's waist.
"Um?" Genos shifted so that he could wrap an arm around Saitama's shoulder "Like this?" his teacher nodded, tapping and pressing on Genos' back panels. Trying to convey his message. "You wish for me to stay here, on top of you?" Saitama nodded again closing his eyes. Steam escaped from Genos' back plating. His fans whirred louder as he settled on top of his teacher. Saitama buried his nose into the crook of Genos' neck making a contented hum.
