Work Text:

Dean Winchester lounged on the couch, a bowl of popcorn resting beside him, half-eaten. The glow from the TV flickered across the walls of the Men of Letters bunker, casting a warm but dim light. An old movie played on the screen—some action flick Dean had seen a dozen times but still enjoyed. Sam sat at the table, deeply engrossed in whatever was on his laptop, occasionally typing away with a furrowed brow. Charlie, meanwhile, was off to the side, perched in front of her gaming setup, fully immersed in her latest digital quest.

The bunker was unusually quiet, save for the occasional sound of gunfire from Charlie’s game and the rhythmic clacking of Sam’s keyboard. It was a rare, peaceful evening. Dean enjoyed these moments—no apocalypse looming, no monsters to hunt. Just family, comfort, and a good old movie.

A flutter of wings signaled Castiel’s arrival. Dean didn’t need to look to know it was him—he recognized the sound instantly. Cas always had a way of appearing without warning, and tonight was no different. Dean smiled to himself, waiting for Castiel to say something, but instead, he felt the angel’s presence lingering near the entrance of the room.

“Hey, Cas,” Dean greeted casually, eyes still on the screen. “Come to join the party?”

Castiel didn’t respond right away. Instead, he took a few slow steps forward, his gaze fixed on Dean with an expression that was difficult to read—part curiosity, part something softer. He looked a bit...off, but not in a bad way. Needy, perhaps, though Castiel would never admit it outright.

“Dean,” Castiel finally said, his voice low and calm as always, but there was a hint of something else in it. He approached the couch slowly, his trench coat swishing softly as he walked.

Dean arched a brow and tilted his head to glance at Castiel. “You okay there, Cas?” he asked, a teasing lilt in his tone. “You look like you need somethin’.”

Charlie snorted from her corner, though she didn’t look away from her game. “Bet he needs cuddles,” she said playfully, her eyes glued to the screen. “Go on, Dean, give him a hug.”

Dean chuckled. “Yeah, yeah.” He turned back to Castiel, who was now standing right in front of him, looking expectantly down at Dean. “You need a cuddle, Cas? You could just say so, you know. No need to stand there all broody.”

Castiel didn’t answer verbally. Instead, he took the last step forward and, without hesitation, plopped himself down on Dean’s lap. The move was surprisingly cat-like, as though Castiel had decided that Dean’s lap was now his designated seat. He settled in, leaning against Dean’s chest with a content sigh.

Dean blinked in surprise before bursting into laughter. “Wow, okay, didn’t expect that,” he said, wrapping his arms around Castiel instinctively. “Comfy?”

“Quite,” Castiel replied, his voice muffled slightly as he rested his head against Dean’s shoulder.

“Aw, look at you two,” Charlie teased, her voice dripping with amusement. “Dean, you’re like his personal teddy bear.”

Sam looked up briefly from his laptop, gave the pair an exasperated glance, and shook his head before returning to his work. “Whatever keeps things quiet,” he muttered.

Dean smirked, giving Castiel a gentle squeeze. “See, Cas, you don’t even have to ask for affection. Just jump right in.” He lowered his voice to a playful coo. “Who’s a needy little angel, huh?”

Castiel tilted his head to look at Dean, his blue eyes narrowing slightly in mock annoyance. “I am not needy.”

“Oh, sure, you’re not,” Dean teased, his grin widening. “You just happened to plop into my lap because you’re so independent and aloof, right?”

Charlie giggled from her seat, clearly enjoying the banter. Castiel, however, didn’t seem bothered by the teasing. Instead, he shifted slightly, making himself more comfortable in Dean’s arms.

“Dean,” Castiel said softly after a moment, his lips close to Dean’s ear. “Daddy.”

Dean froze for a split second, his eyes widening in surprise. He hadn’t expected that. Sam coughed loudly from across the room, clearly having heard the word despite his best efforts to ignore their antics. Charlie paused her game, turning slowly toward the couch with a look of pure glee on her face.

“Oh. My. God,” she said, grinning from ear to ear. “Did Cas just call you Daddy?”

Dean cleared his throat, quickly recovering from his initial shock. A slow, smug grin spread across his face as he looked down at Castiel, who was now blushing faintly but trying to maintain a calm facade.

“Oh, you wanna play that game, huh?” Dean said, his voice low and teasing. “Alright, angel. Let’s see how you handle this.”

He leaned in closer, his lips brushing against Castiel’s cheek as he whispered, “Did you just call me Daddy? That’s adorable.” He placed a light kiss on Castiel’s cheek, then another, and another, each one making the angel squirm slightly in embarrassment.

“Dean,” Castiel said in a low, warning tone, though his blush deepened with each kiss.

“What’s wrong, Daddy’s boy?” Dean teased, enjoying Castiel’s reaction far too much. He peppered more kisses along Castiel’s jawline, each one softer than the last. “Didn’t think I’d take it this well, huh?”

“I regret saying it,” Castiel muttered, burying his face in Dean’s shoulder to hide his blush.

Dean chuckled, running a hand through Castiel’s dark hair. “Too late now. You called me Daddy, and now I get to tease you about it forever.”

Charlie was practically in tears from laughter at this point. “Oh man, this is gold. Cas, you walked right into that one.”

Sam groaned, rubbing his temples. “Can we not do this in front of me?” he asked, his voice filled with exasperation. “I’m trying to work here.”

“Sorry, Sammy,” Dean said, though he didn’t sound sorry at all. He stood up, lifting Castiel effortlessly in his arms. The angel let out a surprised yelp, swatting at Dean’s chest. “Come on, Cas. Let’s go somewhere a little more private.”

“Dean, put me down,” Castiel protested, though there was no real force behind his words. He hid his face against Dean’s neck, still blushing furiously.

“Nope,” Dean said with a grin. “You brought this on yourself, angel.”

As Dean carried Castiel out of the room, Charlie gave them a cheerful wave. “Have fun, lovebirds!” she called after them.

Sam sighed deeply, clearly wishing he could unhear the entire conversation. Charlie, on the other hand, seemed to be having the time of her life.

“You gotta admit,” she said to Sam, “they’re kinda cute together.”

Sam didn’t bother responding. He simply went back to his laptop, hoping to find peace in his work. Meanwhile, Dean and Castiel disappeared down the hall, their playful banter continuing until they were out of earshot.

Once they reached the bedroom, Dean kicked the door shut behind him, still holding Castiel in his arms. He carried the angel over to the bed, setting him down gently on the mattress. Castiel immediately sat up, shooting Dean a half-hearted glare.

“You didn’t have to carry me,” Castiel muttered, though his voice lacked any real bite.

Dean grinned, climbing onto the bed beside him. “Sure I did. You were being all cute and clingy. How could I resist?”

Castiel huffed, crossing his arms in an attempt to look annoyed. But the pink flush on his cheeks gave him away.

Dean leaned in, wrapping an arm around Castiel’s waist and pulling him close. “Still embarrassed, huh?” he murmured, his lips brushing against Castiel’s ear. “You called me Daddy again, by the way.”

“Stop bringing it up,” Castiel mumbled, burying his face in Dean’s shoulder once more. He felt warm all over, the teasing getting to him more than he cared to admit.

“Can’t help it,” Dean said with a chuckle. “You keep giving me reasons to tease you.” He ran his fingers through Castiel’s hair, the touch gentle and soothing. “But I gotta say, I don’t mind you being all needy. It’s kinda nice.”

Castiel didn’t respond right away. Instead, he let out a soft sigh, relaxing against Dean’s chest. He felt safe here, wrapped up in Dean’s arms, away from the world and its dangers. Moments like these were rare, and he cherished them.

“I don’t usually feel this way,” Castiel admitted quietly after a while. “But tonight...I just wanted to be close to you.”

Dean’s expression softened. He tilted Castiel’s chin up, making the angel meet his gaze. “Hey,” he said gently. “You don’t have to explain yourself. If you need me, I’m here. Always.”

Castiel’s eyes shimmered with something unspoken—gratitude, affection, maybe even love. He leaned up, pressing a soft kiss to Dean’s lips. It was brief but heartfelt, leaving both of them smiling.

“Thanks, Dean,” Castiel whispered.

Dean smirked, tightening his hold on Castiel. “Anytime, angel. Now, come here. We’ve got some serious cuddling to do.”

As they settled down further, Castiel shifted slightly, nuzzling into Dean’s neck. He hesitated for a moment before whispering softly, "Daddy...just...hold me like this."

Dean's eyes flickered with surprise and affection at the quiet request. He tightened his embrace, one hand resting at the small of Castiel’s back while the other gently stroked his hair. "You got it, angel," he murmured. "I’ll hold you as long as you want."

Castiel sighed contentedly, melting into the warmth of Dean’s arms. "Don’t tease me about it this time," he added, his voice barely audible.

Dean chuckled softly, pressing a kiss to Castiel’s temple. "No teasing. Just you and me."

They lay in silence for a while, the quiet of the room enveloping them. Castiel’s breathing slowed, his body completely relaxed against Dean’s. The only sound was the rhythmic beating of Dean’s heart, steady and comforting.

Eventually, Dean whispered, "I kinda like it when you call me that."

Castiel didn’t respond verbally, but the small smile that tugged at his lips said enough. He snuggled closer, letting the warmth of Dean’s presence lull him into a peaceful state. Eventually, Castiel drifted off, his breathing deep and even. Just before fully succumbing to sleep, he mumbled a small, barely audible, "Daddy..."

Dean smiled softly, his heart swelling at the quiet word. He held Castiel tighter, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of his head. "Sleep tight, Cas," he whispered. "I got you."

And in that moment, nothing else mattered. Just two souls finding comfort in each other, safe and loved in a world that often gave them neither.
