I just think it would funny to see a scenario where Lawrence and Tedesco keep getting a high number of votes but never enough for one or the other to reach 2/3 majority for a couple days. Do they fight a lot (probably)? Do they reach a hysteria/claustrophobia induced camaraderie? Also Benitez is probably quietly get some votes in the background… what happens with THAT?

I feel like I departed from the actual fun "meat" of your prompt where Lawrence & Teddy are deadlocked for days, and I hope that's okay!!! When I have more time, I'll try to revisit this again with an actual "we are sequestered for so long, we have cabin fever" angle. Instead, I got really into these questions posed by the prompt (1) the explosion happening, but not while the cardinals are in the Sistine, leading to (2) Pope Tedesco (I'm at a complete loss for his Papal name!), (3) Benitez not getting to do a rebuttal speech in the auditorium (the implication being whatever tf Tedesco does do when the cardinals adjourn is a more rehearsed call to action that disguises his reactionary intolerance), (4) but Benitez still being, well, the People's Pope.I HOPE THIS MAKES SENSE! I'm pretty cringe at actually writing fic or dialogue... so... apologies!!! And sorry this doesn't have a lot of Lawrence and Tedesco interaction fdgfdgfd
