Picture Imperfect

Summary:

Tingyun's latest attempt at procuring photos of the Luofu's General doesn't quite go as planned, but she still gets what she wants, as usual.

Notes:

Me: I love Tingyun so much, she's my wife!
Also me: Ships her with Yanqing for some reason.

I did want this one to be longer, but ultimately the idea I had worked better as a shorter fic. Guess I'll make up for it with 'Fugue' later on.

Work Text:

Outside the Seat of Divine Foresight, Tingyun’s calm and cheerful exterior hid a growing anxiety. It’s been almost half an hour, Yanyan she thought to herself, what’s taking so long? She had sent her ‘companion’ to take some photos of General Jing Yuan, something they’d done several times in the past with no issue. This time, however, Yanqing had been inside for much longer than planned. And while she knew the boy could look after himself (he WAS a lieutenant in spite of his age, after all) she still worried for his safety. Double checking her phone for messages, Tingyun began to consider going into the building.

That is, until she heard some hurried footsteps approaching her. “Sorry for the wait, Big Sis!” Yanqing called out. “Fu Xuan was there today, so I had to be extra careful that I wasn’t seen.” Smiling, Tingyun gently tousled the boy’s hair. “You had me worried Little Bro, I almost went in looking for you!” Giggling at his fake groan, she guided him to a more secluded spot in the Exalting Sanctum. “Now then, let’s see!” Yanqing pulled out his phone and revealed his photos. Most of them were fairly pedestrian, though enough at least captured good angles of the general’s visage that the Foxian could sell them. “Not bad, though you should probably practice between ‘sessions’.”

A small pair of arms wrapped around her waist. “I’m sorry Tiánxīn, I’ll try to do better next time.” Yanqing whined as he rested his head underneath her chest. “Hey, don’t beat yourself up Bǎobèi.” She replied, running her fingers through his hair. “I can still get a decent sum with these. Then I’ll buy you a new pair of swords, alright?” His embrace only tightened. “But what if you don’t have enough for yourself? I’ll feel bad if you can’t-” Tingyun knelt down and interrupted him with a chaste kiss. “You’re sweet, Yanyan. But I have plenty of money even without these photos. So don’t worry your cute little head, OK?”

Yanqing pouted, clearly unconvinced. OK then, the older woman thought to herself, smirking. Let’s try something else shall we? She held him close, in a way that forced his cheek to touch her breast. “Besides,” she whispered in his ear, “you already make it up to me just by being an awesome boyfriend, Little Brother.” His inaudible mumbling and stiff ‘sword’ indicated success, so she picked him up and started walking to her house. “I should be carrying you, Big Sister.” he eventually mumbled out. “Like a real boyfriend would. You deserve a real boyfriend, that you don’t have to hide.” Tingyun blushed, then whispered once more: “No need, I already have you Bǎobèi.” After making sure no one saw, she kissed his mouth and continued on her way.
