Work Text:

54 years ago in a small dingy hotel room a 20 year old boy had been murdered by his boyfriend and a group of his friends.

According to the popular legend, it is said that if one passes from the hands of evil they get granted a chance of redemption, a chance to find what they were seeking by life.

They looked like regular people, maintaining their form from the time they were alive. However, only few could actually see them.

Ghosts formed their own unity, keeping together until one could pass on once their desire has been fulfilled.

Sky had seen it many times in his years between life and death. He had met many like him and he had seen many find the fulfilment they were destined to find.

He himself has been stuck in the shadows for decades.

Humans didn't see the ghosts unless it was necessary, so Sky had spent the years alone, apart from the occasional others that lingered around. But none ever stuck around for long, quickly achieving their aim and moving on to the after .

What had been gifted to him as a chance of a lifetime turned into something of a prison to Sky. He was stuck in an immortal state, watching the world go by, with no way to know when his waiting would end. When he too would find the happiness many others did after the pain he lived through.

As the years went by, Sky picked up a couple of hobbies to pass time. Photography, architecture, painting and other things that involved creativity and art became his passion and a form to pass the seemingly limitless time. From the many activities he had done, architectural studies had become his favourite, especially when he got to see the style of buildings change as seasons changed and humans started developing their structures and trying new styles.

But every day Sky spent trapped in a world without escape, he wondered if he would ever find what his soul was searching for. If he would ever manage to get out of this place or if he would forever be imprisoned in his own fantasies.

His desire was more complicated than those he had met in his years as a spirit. Because his wish didn't just resolve around himself. He didn’t want to see a certain place, a certain person. He didn’t want to relive a memory or live a rich life.

There was one thing Sky had always wanted in life and that was to find true love. To find someone who would love him unconditionally. Who wouldn't leave him alone like his mother left him and his father. Every day he had spent with Gun he had wished for love without pain, without the hurt and without the tears. And in the end the one he hoped to give him that love, was the one to cause him to be stuck in the never ending cycle.

His desire to love became a curse to Sky.

Days started to blend together for him. Months and years passed, others like him came and went. He watched people grow older, watched people fall in love, watched people laugh, cry, find happiness and suffer in ways no one ever should.

He watched his tormentor die, a small smile on his face. An advantage of his invisible, immortal state.

Another, much more pleasant, advantage of that was the infinite amount of food and beverages Sky could consume. As a ghost, eating or drinking wasn’t a necessity for him, however Sky loved trying new things whenever he had the chance to. Thanks to some sort of higher powers, he was capable of taking food without humans noticing anything being gone.

Sky loved that. He used that opportunity all the time.

He was now walking through the streets of Bangkok, a coffee in hand, observing the people walking by. After years and years of being unseen by those around, Sky no longer paid attention to avoiding people, letting them walk through him without care.

So when he suddenly found himself on the ground, coffee spilled beside him, it was a great surprise to Sky.

“Oh my god. I'm so sorry,” the man that he had bumped into said quickly, reaching his hand out to help Sky stand up.

He was warm to the touch.

Sky stood frozen, unbelieving of what was happening, staring at the stranger, his handsome face showing an apologetic look.

The world seemed busier around them, a gust of wind dishevelling Sky's hair. A dog coming up to sniff his leg, its owner smiling at Sky as she passed.

“I wasn't looking where I'm going, are you okay?” The stranger was still talking, his hands in a wai, apologising to Sky.

“I'm okay,” he managed to choke out.

The man smiled. Sky's heart beat faster.

“What’s your name angel? I'm Prapai.”

I'm not an angel. I'm a ghost. A ghost you're not supposed to see… unless…

“Sky.”

“Sky. Pretty, like the name holder.” Sky's insides fluttered. Prapai tilted his head curiously to the side. He looked attractive and adorable at the same time. “Would you like to grab a coffee with me? After all I owe you one for that,” Prapai nodded his head towards the cup of coffee laying on the pavement.

“I'd love to,” Sky replied and for the first time in years, decades, maybe even for the first time in his life, he felt warmth surrounding his body. This is what he had always wished for, waited for.

Prapai was the one he was destined to meet.
