Work Text:
They had to keep running, the had to!
It didn't matter that neither of them were dressed for winter.
It didn't matter that Percy left blood trailing behind them.
It didn't matter that Cassandra could barely breath through the sobs wracking her ribs.
They could hear the baying of hounds coming from the castle.
Their absence had been noticed.
The hunters were coming.
They needed to run!
Percy hadn't let go of her hand since she opened the door to his cell. Neither of them cared that there was blood being smeared around the back of palm from where Ripley had torn at his fingers,
"This way!" Her brother panted and began pulling her to the right.
They ducked under branches and slid across ice, but they kept running.
Cassandra's breaths were coming out in short pants as her lungs seemed to freeze from both the cold air and her fear as the sounds of their pursuers drew closer. And closer,
"We won't make it!" She sobbed,
"We have to!" Her brother stated.
Percy kept pulling her along, refusing to let go.
Until he did.
Cassandra didn't register that until she was at least five feet away. She turned her head and saw Percy, fallen in the snow with arrows in his back.
Her brother wasn't moving.
There was blood pooling into the snow.
Cassandra cried while turning-
An arrow sunk into a nearby tree.
She resumed running.
Tears were streaming down her face, blurring her vision to the point that she did not see the approaching cliff. Not until the ground disappeared from beneath her feet, and she was falling.
