Chapter Text
Viserys always considered himself as a peaceful man, always avoiding fights, in the search of being able to continue the peaceful reign of his grandfather.
He always felt that a part of him, the dragon part that Rhaenyra and Daemon possessed, was extinguished when Balerion passed away, that is why he felt the fire less and less inside him.
At the precise moment he saw his new wife enter the hall interrupting his speech, dressed entirely in emerald green and observing the face of his daughter, one that reminded him painfully of his Aemma, he could endure many things throughout his life and reign, but seeing the expression of betrayal and sadness that his beloved daughter had, he exploded.
He felt the fire coming back to him in exorbitant amounts, it was like a burst that emerged from the tips of his toes to the last hair he had. He was no stranger to the situation in front of him, but his wife's demonstration was the straw that broke the camel's back, he was peaceful not stupid.
The color green burned at the top of the Hightower tower, the call to war.
His wife walked with a determined and proud face towards the high table, not noticing Viserys' face, believing that he would not call her attention for the double disrespect committed, while he looked around the nobles, noticing for the first time that some Lords and Ladys wore some green in their attire, some more daring than others, even going so far as to have the whole doublet in green or skirts completely in green.
“What is the meaning of this, dear wife?” called Viserys in a loud voice, which echoed throughout the great hall, having the reaction of Alicent coming to an abrupt halt and his confidence cracking.
Everyone in the hall held their breath as they looked at their king and then at the queen.
“Husband, sorry I'm late, I was busy with the children” his wife replied hesitantly, desperately seeking to give him an innocent look.
“Evidently my dear, from what I see you did not have time to change properly for the occasion, because otherwise I find no reason to dress you in those colors, you are my wife and the colors of my house are black and red” Viserys began to say ”Is there a reason for the color in particular?”
His wife paled until she almost looked like a ghost and he looked at the rest of the court observing their reactions, some were of pure astonishment and others of terror, at the table of his family the surprised faces did not take long to appear, mainly that of his daughter who looked at him as if she did not recognize him and had tears of happiness in her eyes.
My sweet girl, I am so sorry I was blind and left you alone in this court full of green snakes, he thought as he looked at her, as if it was the first time, he was defending her, although deep down he knew it was true, but he was willing to make up for his mistakes.
He turned his face to his wife who was still pale and opening and closing her mouth searching for the words that would not come out. “Call a septa immediately,” he said loudly to one of his assistants, who gave a quick bow and went off in search of one.
As they waited for him to arrive, he noticed that several of the nobles, the ones mainly dressed in green, were looking for a way to hide behind something or someone.
When a septa arrived he broke the silence again. “Tell me septa, what do they teach the Ladys regarding the color of their clothing?”
“The colors of the garment a Lady wears is extremely important, my king” she began to answer plainly. “The color every Lady wears before marriage are the colors of her house of birth, then she moves on to the colors of her husband's house, the colors are a sign of where loyalties reside and where they come from” she finished, leaving everyone even more frightened if possible.
“Tell me, now that the importance of colors is clear” he replied ”What is the color of the Hightower house?”
“My king” Alicent wanted to interrupt, but he raised his hand in a sign of silence which she did by shivering in fear.
“Gray and white, my king” the septa replied meekly.
“In what other circumstance do they wear another color?” Viserys asked, knowing the answer, but wanting the entire court to witness the event.
The septa looked at the queen and turned to her king hesitantly. “The green, the green is used to call for war and burns at the top of the tower” She replied looking down at the floor.
Shouts began to erupt and Viserys knew the night was just beginning.
