Work Text:

Lucy lets out a groan when she gets another call. It’s been one thing after another and it’s not even lunch time. Thankfully, the suspect didn’t fight and went peacefully. Lucy’s back at the station and just finished booking another suspect. She just needed a break, but luck isn’t on her side today, why would it be.

“Officer Bradford.” Grey sees her and calls her to his office and she has no idea why. This is the last thing I need. Her entire body hurts and she wants this shift to end.

“Yes sir.” She walks in and sees the dickish DA, Chris Sanford. “What is he doing here?” Lucy is angry and doesn’t even hide it.

“He claims that during one of your arrests, you did not follow proper protocol.” Lucy wants to strangle this man. She would kick him in the balls, but they’re probably so tiny it wouldn’t even affect him.

“Sir-” Lucy goes to speak but he puts his hand up.

“Sanford, when you purposely try to sabotage my officers' arrests and reports, there’s going to be problems. I’ve reviewed the body cam footage, since we, you know, have them. I’ve also reviewed the report. I don’t know what you have against my officer, but everything was done by the book.”

Chris immediately shuts up and the smug look on his face is gone. “Well-” Trying to defend himself won’t even work.

“No. I’ve already called your boss. He wants to see you. You’re no longer welcome here.” He walks out and Lucy has to stifle a laugh.

“I’m sorry sir.” She looks at him once Chris leaves.

Grey starts laughing. “The man is a moron. I’m sorry he was trying to question you. Now go back out there. You always do the right thing.”

Lucy takes a breath and is relieved that he has her back. She has been a cop for three years and is a hell of a good one. Grey always tells her that he respects her. He is pushing for her to become a Sergeant. She’s currently a TO and training her second rookie, Jackson West.

“Okay boot, ready to get back out there?”

“Yes ma’am.” Lucy drives this time. They are patrolling their area when a call comes in for a robbery suspect on the loose.

“There!” Jackson sees the suspect on foot and calls it in. Lucy stops the car and they both run out.

“Police! Stop!” Lucy yells. He takes off and so do they. Thankfully backup arrives.

“I’m not going back to prison!” The man yells and waves a knife around. Lucy manages to tackle him from behind and they get into a scuffle. Her arm is stinging where she knows his knife got her and she manages to get some good punches in. Jackson takes his opportunity to push him off of Lucy and arrest him.

“Are you okay?” He looks over Lucy who is beat up.

“I’m fine.” She grits out in pain. Panic is starting to set in. “No, I…I need to be checked out.”

Jackson brings her to a paramedic and is then stopped by another officer. Before he knows it, Lucy’s being brought to the hospital. Jackson follows her, after he was finally let go, and parks the shop out front.

“Your partner is going to be okay. We are looking at her now.” A nice young nurse tells him. “You can sit and wait.”

Jackson sits, wishing he could have done more, but Lucy is stubborn. He looks up when hears a loud voice.

“My wife was brought in. I don’t know if she is okay. Can you please tell me where she is?”

“What’s her name sir?”

“Lucy Bradford.” Jackson’s gasps. For one, Lucy is married and never told him. Two, she married that hunk of a man.

“We’re examining your wife and will bring you back to her  shortly.” The man has red eyes and runs his hand through his hair. He comes and paces the room until he sees Jackson.

“You’re here for Lucy?”

“I’m her rookie, Jackson west.” He is in the man’s arms.

“Thank you for saving her. I know she’s stubborn. I’m Tim, her husband.”

Jackson smirks. “She’s been hiding you. What do you do?” Tim smiles softly.

“I’m a college professor.” Jackson’s really surprised but then they hear a voice call for Tim.

“Tim Bradford.” Tim looks to see a nurse and Jackson pushes him. “Why don’t you follow me? Lucy’s asking for you.”

Tim walks to the room, not knowing what to expect. He sees her on the bed, her arm bandaged and monitors on her. “Oh Lucy.” She opens her eyes and tries not to breakdown.

“I’m..I’m okay.” Lucy can barely get the words out. The sorry on Tim’s face breaks her. “I’m so sorry.”

“You were doing your job.” Tim lays down  beside her and pulls her into his arms. She melts into him, needing his comfort. “What happened?”

“Robbery suspect. I had the angle to get him from behind. His knife got my arm, but I had my protective vest on. He got a few punches in.” She points at her face and upper chest. “Is..is-”

“Yes, the baby is okay.”

“I’m so sorry Tim. I have been hiding this too long.” Tim rubs her back. Lucy is sixteen weeks pregnant, but hasn’t told anyone. She has no choice now because she may have to stop going into the field. “I could have hurt them. I’m sorry babe. I’m so sorry.”

“Hey you don’t need to apologize. You’re both okay.” Tim’s hand moves to her belly and the other pulls her closer. He can hear Lucy sniffling and clinging to his shirt. “I’ve got you.” Tim holds her for what feels like hours when he hears a throat clearing and sees both Grey and Jackson. Tim slips out of bed.

“She’s going to be okay.” Wade hugs the man.

“Take care of her. I know she’s stubborn.” Tim smiles.

“He always does and I am not.” Lucy’s voice is raspy and all three men look at her. She waves them over and makes Tim sit. She plays with his fingers. “Sir…I’m sorry.”

“For what?”

“I’ve been hiding something.” Grey looks at her. “I’m sixteen weeks pregnant.” Grey’s eyes go wide but he doesn’t seem surprised. Jackson is and starts choking on air. Grey slaps his back.

“All that matters is you’re both okay. I’ll see you in a few weeks.”

Jackson goes to Lucy. “I’m glad you’re okay.” She smiles. “You’ve been hiding your incredibly hot husband from me.” Lucy laughs and slaps him.

”Sorry Jackson.” She smiles and hugs the man. Both men then leave and the nurse discharges them. Tim helps Lucy dress in something more comfortable and then gets her to his truck. They drive home, Lucy clenching his hand the whole time. When they get inside, Lucy clings to him and he moves them to the couch. Tim pulls her into his lap and she curls herself into him. Her head is laying against his chest, the place she feels safest. Tim inhales her scent and rubs his hand up and down her back. “I love you.” He whispers and cradles her close to him.

“I was scared today. I love my job, but you two are more important. You should hate me for putting our baby’s life in danger.”

“You did your job and we both know it’s a part of it. I could never hate you. You protected them and you. You are incredible.”

Lucy sniffles some more and Tim feels a wet spot on his shirt. “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”

“And you will never have to find out. I’ve got you, always.” Tim holds her and continues to run his hands along her body. Within fifteen minutes, Lucy is fast asleep. Tim moves her hair out of her face and runs the back of his hand down her cheek. He thanks whoever was watching over them today that nothing worse happened.

Lucy stirs an hour later and blinks, the day's events come flooding back. She sees Tim still has a grip on her and held her the entire time she slept. “Hi.”

Tim kisses her forehead. “Sleep well?” Lucy nods. “I have your favorite dinner coming and your favorite snacks have been delivered.” Lucy has had some weird cravings, but Tim has been getting whatever she wants.

“Thank you for holding me and being here. I need you, Tim.” Tim’s arms hold her a little tighter.

“Always baby. You’re my entire world.” Lucy makes no attempt to move. She’s safe and she feels nothing but love. “I’ll always be here to support you, take care of you, and love you. No matter what.” Lucy snuggles further into his chest. Tim was her home; her comfort.
