Chapter Text
Alphas, betas, and omegas.
In a world where pirates roam free, causing havoc or simply seeking adventure, and where the government has a skewed sense of right and wrong, rocking from one side to the other so precariously- these three dynamics add to the chaos.
Alphas are meant to be methodical. Their cool calculations make them seem almost heartless, brutal, and every bit beastly. This is the case for some, yet this demeanor of theirs is simply driven by the need to protect. They’re born leaders. People flock to them because an alpha’s goal is to build for them a pack, a family , that they will go above and beyond to strengthen and protect. Of course, this sentiment can vary in expression, for there are alphas who protect utilizing fierce rule, meaning heads will fly if they’re word is not obeyed.
Betas are different from their counterparts. They are the middle ground between the more volatile former and latter dynamics. Their instinct helps them to navigate the hostile temperaments of alphas, and they aren’t susceptible to the manipulations of omegas. In honesty, most can consider being a beta far easier as they come balanced from birth- unlike alphas and omegas who must learn to coexist with their feral side. This is why alphas and omegas love to surround themselves with betas, for they provoke a sense of calm with their level-headedness. On the other hand, Omegas can be as temperamental as alphas, or even more so .
If alphas are teeth-barring, betas steady, then omegas are rambunctious. They have a similar drive to alphas in terms of pack mentality. They wish to join one, settling in to act as the overseers in a more close and personal sense. Omegas wish for people to be happy, taken care of, and free . Regarding strength, alphas and omegas are the strongest of the three. What makes omegas so dangerous is their mentality. They will fight to protect their loved ones, but when pushed to the edge, they become insane . Alphas can go into frenzies, but their inner instinct will always be active because they need to be smart to win any fight. Omegas, well, there is no conclusive data to determine if they are lucid when they’re enraged. They become like monsters, thirsty for blood and unpredictable, yet their attacks are too precise. Such beasts like omegas can only ever be with alphas as together they balance each other more than betas can ever hope to. That is why a pack will typically have an alpha in charge with their omega mate standing right beside them.
Law stares at his side.
Many people, well - besides his crew, would think of Law as never wanting an omega. He is the epitome of scary . People fear the doctor who not only brings healing but also death with his hands. That’s why his known moniker is The Surgeon of Death . Such a notorious man doesn’t need an omega because what use does he have for companionship? Unless it’s a means to an end, then that aligns more with the personality of Law. He does use other people. His goals in life stand at the forefront and his crew live by “Let’s get the captain to the finish line!” Having an omega could complicate things because his omega would need to be strong and so far the few he met could be considered no better than the dirty on his boot, but , yes there is a but, people are wrong about the one- Trafalgar D. Water Law.
Law wants an omega mate.
“When an alpha is born, it is said that an omega must be born for them. Two halves are meant to be whole. It’s not just a romantic notion. It’s a truth. Promise me, Law, that you will find your omega. Freedom and happiness are for everyone and that included you too.”
Coro-san was too bright for the world they lived in, but Law couldn’t deny the man the one promise. From that time onward, Law has been open-minded when encountering the opposite dynamic, and admittedly—the more he looked into alpha and omega bonds; he found himself quite captivated by the idea. He’s read many medical books on the subject and they explained things clinically to him, but those books tended to be written by betas. It was the government’s doing as they realized how strong such couples are, especially pirate couples. Law was forced to glean information from older alphas that have tucked themselves away from the rest of the world—either with their mates or by themselves after losing them. These alphas brought excitement into Law’s life because of the way one tiny old man explained “You’re young and will reach prime, becoming formidable, but with a mate, they can give you even more strength. That’s why the government fears us, wants us to join them, and hides things about fated bonds. You’re a pirate, right, and you told me you got one of them devil fruit powers. Let me say this right now. You’ll be fucking lethal when you’re mated. Trust me, son. Don’t be surprised if the navy pays attention to whatever shit you do and who the fuck you’re speaking with.”
Law wondered how Coro-san found out about the fated bonds. The man had been a beta himself, though, Law supposed once Coro-san became his caretaker the man made it his mission to learn all there is about alphas and omegas—if only for Law’s sake. Whatever the reason, Law became a bit obsessed with the thing. That old alpha has said Law would feel it upon the first introduction. That when he’s come in contact with the omega he belongs to it’ll feel like he’s dying —which is concerning, yet thrilling all the same.
The young alpha will still keep to his agenda, mind you, but at the forefront of his mind is how his omega looks .
