Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Dark clouds loom low above the Kingdom, threatening for the rain to start pouring down on it any second.
Somehow the weather always seemed to repeat every single year, on this very day.

But it was logical in a way.

You see - today marks the nineteenth year since the Kingdom’s Queen Mina fell into a coma, four months after giving birth to her second son - Jay. To this very day it remained uncertain how it happened, only thing they knew was that it was due to magic.

The King was convinced that the culprits behind this were the two personal maids that the Queen had. He never really liked them and after his wife fell into a coma, they ran away, only fueling his suspicions. To this very day, there is a bounty on their heads, but they have never been seen .

The loss devastated every single person in the Kingdom. It hurt them even more, since she was alive, but couldn’t be there with them. That’s why after concluding magic was at fault, the King created a special area in the Kingdom, only for the magic folk to live in.

It was placed in the north part of the capitol and took about a quarter of it, always surrounded by a force field prohibiting anyone with magic to ever leave their prison.

Normal citizens backed the decision with their whole souls, now afraid that something could happen to their own families.

Now they could honor their Queen annualy in peace.
The celebration looked more or less the same every year. The royal family - The King, Prince Heeseung and Jay - go to greet the civilians and accept the expressions of their grief. Then they receive various gifts - some for them, others for their mother and wife.

Then the whole crowd walks to the golden chapel placed in the middle of the city, where they all pray to whomever or whatever that will listen for their Queen to return.

In the evening, in the capital’s square, townsfolk make a big feast and play music, just like their Queen liked it. They always talked about how amazing she was, how she loved every single being.

And how evil magic users were for betraying that love.

Whilst the royal family stayed in their castle, in silence eating their dinner and then all retreating back to their own chambers. When the princes were younger, their father used to tell them stories about their mother, but now there was nothing more to tell.

And this year was supposed to be like all the other’s.

But it wasn’t.
