Snow to Water and Water to Snow

Summary:

Turns out Ruby's parent did leave something with her as they left her that day, at the church, at christmas.

The Doctor finds it and instantly recognised it. It is the prayer leaf that belongs to his wife.

Notes:

This is actually my first fic. I've had this idea in my head since church on ruby road aired so I wrote it down. I know it isn't long, but I already have more storylines in my head. So stay tuned!

Chapter 1: Sleepless night

Chapter Text

It was late at night and the Doctor knew he was supposed to be in bed or fiddling with his current projects or something.
Ruby went to her room already a few hours ago. As always there is too much on his mind. The people he lost and the fear of losing Ruby someday.

Then River, her parents, Rose, Martha, Gallifrey, the Master. It is a lot. The other version of himself healed his emotional damage and trauma, but he still has the memories. And still thinks about them everyday. That's the one thing the bi-generation couldn't heal.

He lets the Tardis orbit around earth and sits in the door. His legs tangling in open space with a beautiful few on his favourite planet. His mind wanders back to Ruby. He thinks about the space baby space station. And when Ruby was captured by Maestro. Then back in the Tardis when they went back home.

How can it snow?

He thinks.

How can she make it snow?

He scanned Ruby already. There was nothing abnormal but he just can't shake off the feeling that she is more.

He thinks about the day that he saved Ruby and Lulubelle from the Goblins. He went back to that night on the Ruby road. He saw Ruby's parent. Mother? Probably. Father? Also possible. They seemed familiar, but his brain just couldn't click. When he saw them something in his brains tingled.
A psychic link? With Ruby parent?

He worries to much. The Tardis calms him with a light buzzing noise in his mind. He puts his head against the blue Tardis wood and closes his eyes to enjoy the feeling.

'Thanks old girl.'

His eyes are focused on earth again. He watches the city lights, the clouds and the oceans. He thinks about what the other version of himself, his brother, is doing right now. What his former friends and companions are doing.

After starring for a while, he hears footsteps. He knows it's Ruby so he doesn't turn around. But he makes room for her next to him. Ruby touches him at the shoulder to let him know she is there. Then she sits down next to him.

'Couldn't sleep?' he asks without looking at her and his eyes still fixed on earth.

'Not really no. I'm still so angry. About Lindy. I mean. And then I think about you and I get angrier and sadder.' Ruby puts her head on his shoulder and watches earth underneath them too.

'We couldn't have changed anything. It is what it is. And I think they got what they deserved for their stupidity. I always want to save everyone, but sometimes, very little, don't want to be saved.'

There was a long silence where they both enjoyed the view.

'How about tomorrow we fly home and visit mum and gran. Then you help me renovate my room. I'm putting this off for ages. We deserve a little break I think.' She looks at him with a enthusiastic smile.

The doctor smiles back at her.

'Sounds good. I haven't actually renovated something in a while. Could be fun.'

'Great. So I'll go back to bed. And you too. I still don't know if you need sleep or not, but if you do, you need to recharge.'

Ruby gets up, hugs the Doctor and gives him a kiss on the head.

'Good night.'

' 'Night Ruby.'

Ruby heads back to her room.
As soon as the door closes, the doctor leans his head back on the Tardis. Still trapped in his thoughts, but already excited for tomorrow.

He closes his eyes once again and dreams of vast universes, beautiful supernovas and infinite galaxies.
