Pillowtalk

Summary:

How would you define strange?
To Oikawa, it is when he woke up as Iwaizumi's pillow.
Now, that is certainly strange.

Work Text:

Strange occurrences are different for everyone. Some might think meeting a long-lost crush is peculiar, while others might find a simple ‘hi’ from a stranger on the street strange. But Oikawa believed he took the cake, because why on earth did he wake up as Iwaizumi’s pillow?!

One blink. Two blinks. Three blinks.

Huh. Nothing had changed. Oikawa still couldn’t move and was still in a place he knew all too well — his boyfriend, Iwaizumi Hajime’s bed. The comfort of the bed, soaked with Iwa’s fragrance, made Oikawa melt (despite being a pillow). Oikawa sighed in contentment. Sure, this was a weird situation, but it was everything he wanted. Surrounded by the warmth of his boyfriend and enveloped in his scent, which he had grown up with, Oikawa felt content. Maybe he could live like this forever.

The door creaks open, shattering any remaining sense of rationality within Oikawa. That’s right. How could Oikawa ever give up his life with his childhood best friend, now turned boyfriend, who just seems to give the best hugs and the best kisses Oikawa has ever received, just to be a pillow? Absolutely absurd! If Oikawa could sassily flip his imaginary long hair right now, he definitely would.

The bed shifts as a weight presses it down. Suddenly, Oikawa is lifted and pressed against the hard, toned chest of his boyfriend. This is Oikawa’s favorite position — being coddled and cuddled up by his boyfriend. Outsiders might think Hajime is completely exasperated with Oikawa, given the number of grumbles and complaints from the shorter man. Yet they don’t truly know them. They don’t know how Hajime looks at Oikawa, how he caresses Oikawa’s hair when he’s upset, or how he gives Oikawa forehead kisses every morning without fail. They don’t know that Hajime is the one person who cares about Oikawa more than anyone else in the world. If maledictions existed in this lifetime, Hajime would endure them over and over for the sake of being with Oikawa forever. Fuck loving Oikawa to the moon and back; Hajime loves him beyond any stars, from the galaxies to infinity.

Oikawa knows that Hajime isn’t actually hugging him in this instance, but his pillow. Yet, Oikawa still enjoys being in the embrace of his loved one. It isn’t long before Oikawa starts drifting to sleep, surrounded by the safety of his boyfriend and enveloped in the fresh scent of Hajime. Honestly, Oikawa thought, pillow or human, he still loves being hugged like this. Of course, it would be a plus if he could hug back... but it is what it is.

Before he could fully succumb to peaceful sleep, Oikawa was interrupted awake by a string of sobs, each one like a dagger to his heart. He feels the 'shirt' on his back beginning to cling onto his 'body', the fabric damp with the weight of sorrow. Oikawa wished he could turn around, caress Hajime's face, and kiss the tears away, questioning the reasoning behind them. But he can't. So he opts to listen, every sob wrenching at his soul. Oikawa hoped that somehow, he could bring the other comfort by just being by his side without the other knowing.

“Oikawa… my love… I love you so much. I miss you so, so much. Fuck.” Choked sobs and gasps were let out, each word weighted with anguish. Oikawa listened, feeling himself too on the verge of tears. The overwhelming care and love from his boyfriend are so intense that he doesn't know what to do. Every syllable pierces through him, echoing the depth of their connection and the pain of their separation.

Hajime's voice quivered with raw emotion as he uttered each word, his desperation evident in the air. "I want to hug you," he whispered, his voice cracking with longing. "I miss your kisses, your voice." Each syllable hung heavy with the weight of his sorrow. "Fuck," he spat out, frustration and anguish lacing his words. "I want your face to be the first thing I see when I wake up again." His voice trailed off, a plea hanging in the air like a lingering echo. "I... Fuck, please come back to me, Tooru. "

His words were a desperate chant, a ritual born out of anguish and longing. Each repetition was a futile attempt to summon back the one he loved, despite knowing deep down that it was an impossible wish. Yet, he couldn't help but cling to this futile hope, repeating his plea like a mantra, as if the sheer force of his longing could somehow bridge the gap between them.

Oikawa's heart clenches at Hajime's desperate plea. He can almost feel the weight of it in the air, heavy and suffocating. "I'm here, Hajime," he murmurs softly, his own voice trembling with emotion. "I wish I could hold you too. I wish I could be there to wipe away your tears, to chase away your fears." Oikawa knows Hajime cannot hear him. But despite that, there’s a lingering hope, that whatever miracle would allow Hajime to hear Oikawa.

“Please, Tooru, please,” Hajime's voice breaks, choked with unshed tears. “I'll do anything, anything to have you back. You can annoy me every day for all I care, I just need you by my side, please...”

Oikawa's breath catches in his throat, his chest tightening with the weight of his own regrets. He longs to reach out, to comfort Hajime in his time of need, but he's trapped, a silent observer of their shared anguish. "I'm sorry, Hajime," he whispers, his voice barely more than a wisp of air. "I'm so sorry."

The room is filled with a heavy silence, broken only by the sound of Hajime’s ragged breaths and the occasional sniffle. Time seems to stand still as they both grapple with the enormity of their loss, their hearts heavy with sorrow and longing.

“May we reunite again in the next life Hajime. I will continue to wait and love you like I did in this lifetime, again and again.”

I wanted this to be a short story since this is a silly idea I got while playing a horror game, so it might not be as good as I hope it will be...? I'm not sure. Do tell me your opinions in the comments if you'd like ⋆☀︎。
