Work Text:
What if the Doctor didn't have a name. What if their name was lost on the wind, what if they simply... forgot it.
It wasn't surprising really, that the Doctor had forgotten their own name, because Time Lords were never meant to exist like this.
There was always supposed to be someone to remind you of your family, your life, your name. Someone to whisper it in your ear, or murmur it to you after a long day playing in the sand dunes, trying to forget how much you'd grown.
But the Doctor had no one.
And they were fine with that! Truly, they were fine with that. Because they had friends who loved them; even when they didn't feel worthy of love.
Because they had people who always were, always would be there to pull them back from the edge. To stop them going to far.
But... even with their friends, there was still a divide. Because the Doctor wasn't like them even if they sometimes wished they were.
There were things that the Doctor would never get and things that they simply couldn't explain, and one of those things was the Doctor's name.
Their first name, the one that was them and their personality in word form.
The one that they'd never know again.
