Increased heart rate, burning ears, stomach turns, and sweaty hands (Even more so than fucking usual.) Bakugo began to think that maybe he should go to the doctor. But he's noticed a pattern with these symptoms. They all happen around a certain redhead. Eijirou Kirishima. The idiot who wormed his way into Bakugo’s heart and kinda sort helped him make better decisions, maybe even become a better person. But that's not the point. The point is that he's sick. Bakugo decided he'd ignore these weird feelings and wait it out.
The symptoms got even worse, in fact, he's gained another one. Bakugo was hanging out with his ‘supposed’ friend group. They were playing basketball as Bakugo took a break, sitting on the bench. Mina was next to him on her phone looking bored. Sero was watching from the sideline and Kirishima was playing one-on-one against Kaminari, who was losing.
Heh, loser. Bakugou thought as he took another sip of his water bottle.
The two idiots hopped around each other, with Kirishima taking the lead and dribbling the ball towards Kaminari's goal. Kirishima jumps, and takes the shot, the net making a smooth swish once the ball goes in. The sun hitting Kirishima just right caught Bakugo‘s attention as he clutched his water bottle in his hand.
“Seriously?!” Kaminari exclaimed.
Bakugo’s brain seemed to ignore the fact that Kaminari was there, only zeroing in on Kirishima, who stood proudly flashing his signature grin with a hand on his hip.
Still in his trance, he hadn't noticed that his quirk had activated on its own until Mina commented on something. “Is something burning?” She asked.
Bakugo blinked and looked down at his hands that had little explosions jumping around on his palms. This had never happened before. He is Katsuki Bakugo, he never lost control of his quirk, why is it happening?!
So, to test it, Bakugo created bigger explosions in both hands, gathering the attention of everyone else on the court, confusing them. “What the heck was that for, Bakugo?!” Mina squealed.
Sero covered his ears with a frown and Kaminari began to complain as well. Kirishima completely ignored the sudden explosions and asked for a bottle of water.
“No.” Bakugo said as he suddenly stood up, angry that he somehow lost control of his quirk. Just thinking about it made him grind his teeth so he stomped off the court, ignoring his idiotic friends' protests.
Bakugo went back to the dorms on his own, slammed his door shut as he walked into his room. He sighed as he leaned against the door. He brought a hand up to his face and lit it with some tiny explosions. How the hell did it go off?! Bakugo thought as he furrowed his eyebrows.
Whatever, I should probably do my research on these symptoms. Bakugo thought before walking over to his desk. He grabbed his laptop and climbed in his bed with it and began his research.
As he began scrolling through some phone numbers and supposed names for what sickness he could have, he saw an article that says, “How to know if you have a crush on someone.”
What?
Bakugo doesn't have a crush, or crushes for that matter. All that matters is becoming number one. Bakugo thought as he slammed his laptop shut.
Dumbass laptop. He thought before sitting it aside and going to sleep. He supposes that he's going to keep ignoring the symptoms.
Bakugo woke up the next day for school, got ready and walked out of his dorm. He shoved his hands into his pockets quietly. When an arm suddenly flopped over his shoulder. Bakugo’s anger grew as he turns to look at who dared to touch him when he sees a familiar shade of red.
“Hey, man. You suddenly walked out on us yesterday and left your bag. I got it in my room so I can give it to you after school. Anyway, are we still having that study session?” Kirishima rambled.
Bakugo wasn't paying attention, instead he found himself focusing on Kirishima’s face. His well structured face.
Suddenly, red eyes met his own and Bakugo stiffened. He had been caught staring and Kirishima just smiled at him. Fucking idiot- Bakugo thought. He hadn't even answered Kirishima’s question.
Kirishima turned away to talk to someone as they passed by and Bakugo took this time to escape as Kirishima was distracted.
Class was not much better. Bakugo couldn't get that idiot off his mind. All he could think about was red hair and a sharp-toothed smile. It seems to be another symptom. Bakugo began to get frustrated, the notes he was writing today were lacking. Bakugo resisted the urge to slam his desk.
He's known for his good grades minus his rude attitude and he wasn't planning on slacking. Bakugo took a deep breath before zeroing in on the chalkboard in front of him.
Bakugo was satisfied with his notes, and made it through the end of class. As he walked back to his dorm he heard a familiar voice. “Hey, Bakugo! We still doing that study sesh?” Kirishima asked as he began to open his dorm room.
Bakugo rolled his eyes. They did have this once a week study session thing they'd do.
“I still have your bag, and we can have some snacks.” Kirishima said, flashing his signature grin.
Bakugo sighed and relented.
Maybe this was a bad idea. The idiot's room was a mess but at least Bakugo got his bag. Kirishima was shoving some of his clothes in his dresser. “You can sit down, I'm gonna try and tidy up a bit.” Kirishima said.
“Wow, making your guest wait.” Bakugo scoffed as he sat down at the table in the middle of the room.
“Relax, we'll have fun.” Kirishima said.
Bakugo rolled his eyes. “This is a study session, it's not supposed to be fun. Dumbass.”
Kirishima only laughed before closing his dresser and taking a seat in front of Bakugo.
The two began their study session there, with Bakugo pulling out his notes from class and showing Kirishima how to add those into the problems they had for today.
Two hours later, Kirishima was lying on his desk, his head lying on his arms. He was drooling a little, so Bakugo moved his homework and notes to the side.
Once he did so, he began admiring Kirishima again. He suddenly noticed a stray hair on Kirishima's eye and moved it behind his ear. As Bakugo retracted his hand, his heart rate shot up. Why the fuck did I do that?! He thought.
Bakugo began to panic, so he grabbed his notes and homework and walked out of Kirishima’s room.
He walked over to his dorm and slammed his notes on his desk. Why did I do that? Why did I do that?! He thought as he began pacing around his room.
He took a deep breath, ignoring the loud thumping in his chest. Fuck. He thought.
Whatever. He'll just sleep it off.
He didn't sleep well, he stayed up past his bedtime overthinking and set an alarm to wake himself up early on a Saturday. Bakugo almost broke his phone when he tried to turn the alarm off. He grabbed his phone and saw that he got a message from the group chat he removed himself from, time and time again.
ManlyMan: Hey guys, wanna hang out today?
Pinky: Omg Sure!
TapeMan: Sure, sounds fun
HotBoy: Yeah, sure, but you better have some snacks.
Bakugo rolled his eyes as he typed his reply. ‘No, sick.’
He got immediate messages asking if he was okay and he growled as he aggressively typed back that he was fine. He slammed his phone down and decided he'd get some coffee.
Bakugo walked into the common room and saw Mina leaning against the counter with her phone in her hand. As Bakugo started up the coffee machine, the idiot decided to make conversation.
“Wait. Aren't you sick?” She asked.
“Yeah, but it isn't bad.” He replied.
Mina put her phone down on the counter. “What are your symptoms?”
At first Bakugo thought, “Why should I tell you?” but decided against it.
Bakugo poured himself some coffee in a mug before turning towards her. “Increased heart rate, my ears burn, my stomach turns in weird ways and it only happens around Kirishima.” He said.
The room was silent for far too long.
Mina covered her mouth with her hand, like she was holding in laughter. “Bakugo… it sounds like you have a crush.” She replied.
Bakugo glared at her. “Crush?! The fuck are you talking about?!” He yelled.
“Oh my god, this is insane. You thought you were sick but you actually have a crush on Kirishima!-” She rambled.
“No!- I don't! You dumbass-” Bakugo interrupted, as he clutched the mug in his hands.
Mina had this dreamy look in her eyes as she rambled on. “Oh my god!” She squealed as she slammed her hands on the table, leaning towards Bakugo. “You have to tell me! Have you ever thought about what it would be like to hold Kirishima's hand? Or kiss him?! Tell me-”
Bakugo’s brain shut her out. He didn't even notice the smoke coming from his hand as his heart rate sped up again and his ears burned. He hadn't even thought about kissing Kirishima and now, he can't get the idea out of his head. Bakugo slammed the mug on the counter and stomped back to his dorm, brushing past Kirishima who happened to be in his way.
Bakugo was freaking out. Crush?! What is she talking about?! She has no idea what she is talking about. He thought as he clutched his chest where his heart was, hoping to stop the loud thumping.
After a few deep breaths, Bakugo walked over his laptop and decided to do some research.
Bakugo groaned at the words on his laptop screen as he confirmed what he's been feeling for the past few days. I have a crush.. He thought, his lip curling from the thought.
Disgusting. He thought as he scrolled to the bottom of the website. The words, “If you experience these, then you most likely have a crush on someone! Good luck!”
That made Bakugo pause. Should he just tell Kirishima how he's been feeling? He did his research on rejection and honestly, he thinks it's the most possible solution to the outcome. He'd rather have his feelings be rejected and move on so he could focus on what matters.
Bakugo closed his laptop when he heard a knock at his door. He climbed off his bed and walked over to his door, getting ready to scare off anyone who decided to bother him.
He opened the door to see Kirishima. “Hey, you said you were sick so I came to check on you.” He said.
Bakugo crossed his arms around his chest. “I'm fine.” He huffed.
Get it over with. Bakugo reminded himself.
“I actually have something to say, so get in.” Bakugo said.
“Uh.. okay.” Kirishima replied awkwardly before stepping into the room.
Bakugo closed the door as Kirishima stood in front of him. And fuck, this was hard. Bakugo thought this would've been easy, but it felt like he couldn't breathe. He clenched his fists as he took a breath. “I.. Fuck. I like you.” He managed.
The room was silent, too silent and Bakugo was prepared. It was expected of Kirishima to not reciprocate his feelings-
“You like me back?!” Kirishima exclaimed.
This made Bakugo stiffen as he looked up to stare into those red eyes. Kirishima liked him back? HIM?!
“WHAT?!” Bakugo blurted out.
Kirishima shifted on his feet, the faint blush on his cheeks were visible. “Yeah.. I liked you for a while but I didn't want to tell you because I thought you wouldn't be into me..” He said, scratching the back of his neck.
This confession made the room silent again. Wait.. so that meant that they could possibly… date? Bakugo felt his cheeks grow warm at the thought of it.
“So um… do you want to try it?- A relationship- to see where it goes?- only if you're fine with it-” Kirishima rambled as the red on cheeks darkened.
Bakugo nodded quietly. God, fuck this idiot and what he's done to me. Bakugo thought.
Kirishima beamed. “Really?! Yes!- I'll be the best boyfriend!- I-Uhh…” He trailed off. “Can I hold your hand?” He asked, not looking at Bakugo.
Bakugo held his hand out and Kirishima grabbed it.
"I like this.” Kirishima says as he rubbed his thumb across Bakugo’s hand.
They smiled at each other silently, happy with their decisions.
