Hubris

Summary:

My brain decided to write dramatic poetry (more of spoken word piece but i digress) instead of writing my college papers.

Life and Death argue over the matters of hubris and the value of words.

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

Life: I fear the power you wield with only words.
Death: Only words?
Death: I have never known any spoken nor written phrase to be merely words. Sharp as polished knives or dull as soft blades of grass.
Death: Words have power.
Life: You're right
Life: So then, I guess...
Life: I fear the power you wield with words of mortal ruin. Of desolation. Of folly.
Life: Hubris.

Death: And in turn, shall i fear you for your quick wit?
Death: For your need to pick apart my every utterance.
Death: To search deep for misguided meanings?
Death: A feeble thread, Lightly linking life to love, Or love to hate.
Death: A glimpse into thoughts never spoken?
Life: Hubris, indeed

Life: Are you not death?
Life: Am i not life?
Life: This limbo we both seek cannot extend beyond the query of an overactive mind
Death: It may be hubris.
Death: Damning to even try.
Life: But ignorance is a sin of its own making
Life: You are an ugly truth
Life: And I the pretty lie

Hubris.

Notes:

Please note. This made ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE.
It is reflective of how I view poetry as an individual. The deeper meanings of such text are often lost on me. Poems often leave me regretful or the emotional and intellectual journey they offer.

Side note, i wrote this while listening to "Idea 22" by Gibran Alcocer. So if you want a more immersive read, listen to the song above while reading.
