Work Text:
It was the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday, and it has been several weeks since the incident at Alcatraz. Former S.T.A.R.S. member Rebecca Chambers, one of the BSAA members who helped eradicate the threat, decided to lay low and take a break from her work. She was laying on her couch in her apartment, wearing nothing but pajama pants and a tank top, watching the news.
As she was beginning to fall asleep, her phone beeped. Her body jolted, being startled by the noise. She sat up and picked up her phone from the coffee table in front of the couch. It was a text message from Jill Valentine. It read: “movie night tonight? :P”. Being half-awake, Rebecca replied “yeah sure, what time?”. Jill answered with “7:30 sounds good. See you then!”.
Rebecca put her phone in her right pocket, got up, and went to get properly dressed. Rebecca never wanted to admit it, but she had a small crush on Jill for years. When they first met back in 1997, she was so shy that she could barely say anything to her. Even now, she was afraid to tell her anything. “ What if she doesn't like girls? Or what if she thinks I’m weird? Or worse… ” She thought, but she didn't want to distract herself. She had finished getting dressed and spent the next few hours cleaning up the apartment.
It was nearing 7:30 PM, so Rebecca decided to make some microwave popcorn while she waited. She leaned against the countertop and crossed her arms. She kept thinking about Jill, wondering if tonight would be the perfect moment to tell her how she felt. Before she could think anymore, the doorbell rang. Rebecca rushed to the door and looked through the peephole. It was indeed Jill Valentine. She unlocked the door and opened it.
“There’s my favorite scientist!” Gushed Jill, giving Rebecca a hug with a coffee mug in her hand. “How’s your break been so far?” She asked, taking off her jacket and hanging it on the coat hanger next to the door. “A bit boring, but relaxing.” Mumbled Rebecca, still feeling half-asleep. “You sound pretty tired. You all right?” Jill asked, being a tad-bit worried for her. “Yeah, just… a bit tired.” She answered.
“Well hopefully tonight’s movie will put you to sleep.” Jill chuckled, pulling out a DVD copy of The Thing out of her bag. “I’ll go sit on the couch while I wait.” Said Jill, noticing the popcorn bag in the microwave. Rebecca put the popcorn in a bowl and sat next to Jill. Just thirty minutes into the film, Rebecca fell asleep, with her head accidentally resting on Jill’s shoulder. Jill didn't want to wake her up, so she didn't move an inch.
“ Not gonna lie, she looks kinda cute when she sleeps like this. ” Jill thought, smiling a bit. Twenty minutes go by. A loud noise from the movie woke Rebecca up. As she slowly woke up, she realized where her head was resting. She quickly sat up straight. “Woah, you alright?” Asked Jill, startled by Rebecca’s reaction. “...How long was I asleep?” She muttered, slightly blushing. “I’d say about twenty minutes.” Jill answered. “You didn't answer my question, though.”
“...What?” She murmured. “Are you alright?” Repeated Jill, adjusting herself to face Rebecca. “I…” She let out a deep, exasperated sigh. “No, I’m not.” She answered. “I’ve been having trouble sleeping for the past two weeks. All I can think about is…” Rebecca admitted before stopping herself. “About… what?” Jill wondered. “You! All I can think about is you.” Blurted Rebecca in an exhausted manner. Jill looked shocked, not expecting to hear something like that come from Rebecca. “I’m… I’m sorry.” Rebecca bawled, starting to tear up.
“Sorry? Sorry about what?” Jill asked, being slightly confused. “For being such a mess.” She sniffled, wiping her tears. Jill shuffled herself closer to Rebecca and put her hands on her shoulders. “Rebecca, you are far from a mess. ‘You’re the smartest girl I’ve ever met.’ That's what I said when I first met you.” Reassured Jill, looking into Rebecca’s glimmering eyes. She smiled, and placed her right hand onto Jill’s.
“Jill… I-” Before she could say more, Jill’s lips gently clashed with hers. She didn't mind it, though, as she kissed her back. All of Rebecca’s troubles and worries washed away, as her longtime dream had come true. Jill laid on top of Rebecca as they continued to kiss, fully embracing each other. They pulled back to catch their breaths.
“Jill… I love you… so much.” Admitted Rebecca, smiling at the sight of Jill being on top of her. “I love you too, Beccy.” Answered Jill. “I can call you that, right?” She laughed. “Y-Yeah, of course.” She answered, laughing with her. “Only if I can call you ‘Jillybean’, though.” She said with a smug expression on her face. “Absolutely.” Jill accepted, liking the new nickname.
“We should get some sleep. What do you say?” Jill advised, yawning. “Yeah, good idea.” Rebecca agreed. Jill grabbed a blanket close by and put it over her and Rebecca. “Goodnight, Beccy.” She whispered as she kissed her on the forehead. “Goodnight, Jillybean.” Rebecca giggled quietly. The two fell asleep on top of each other, cuddling for the rest of the night.
