Work Text:
"What do we even need all that flour for? You never bake."
"I took you along so you could help me carry the groceries, not so you could criticize my shopping list," Baosheng scolded her son. "Now come on, we still need toothpaste and vinegar...and eggs! You were supposed to remind me of those."
Yiyong rolled his eyes, now kind of remembering why he never went shopping with his mom.
But instead of complaining he quietly followed after her through the different aisles, catching whatever she threw at him and putting it into their shopping cart without another comment.
They were just about ready to pay and get back home when Yiyong's mother froze dead in her tracks, almost causing Yiyong to run into her. "What-"
He cut himself off when he looked in the direction his mother was staring.
"Baosheng! Yiyong! What a surprise to see you here."
Yiyong's aunt, Baosheng's sister walked over to them, looking them over closely. "It's been so long. My, Yiyong you've grown up. How have you two been?"
Baosheng took a moment before she broke out of her frozen state, putting on a smile. "Oh, you know. Everything is still how it used to be. And what brings you here?"
"I'm visiting friends for the weekend. It's their wedding day and they wanted to celebrate," Yiyong's aunt answered.
She still sounded like Yiyong remembered it. Annoying and loud, like a rusty gate. And she still held herself like back then, her nose high up, looking down at them.
"So, will you be attending the family gathering this year? You missed out on the past gatherings a lot, it's really such a shame. Mother always asks about you. And her only grandson of course."
The past few years, Baosheng had always managed to talk them out of those stupid gatherings. Neither she nor Yiyong were close with her side of the family. They had all kind of pushed Baosheng out of their circles after marrying Yiyong's dad since he didn't fit their family apparently.
Yiyong never knew why they even got invited anymore. Most likely just so their relatives could make fun of them for being less than the rest of the family.
Arrogant bastards.
"Oh, to be honest...eh well...I didn't check in with my boss yet..."
"Well do that! You have a right to some weekends off! We all need to see you again, Baosheng. And Yiyong as well, my you've grown up well. How have you been doing? Still trying to make a living with drawing? Bao, I've always told you not to let him play with his grandfather's brushes! I hope you've got those flaws out of his head by now?"
His mother was quick to intervene. "Yiyong's been doing fine, don't worry."
His aunt huffed but went back to the painfully dry conversation she was having with Baosheng.
Yiyong was kind of getting lost in thoughts, praying that this would be over soon, when his aunt talked to him again, startling him a little.
"So, have you gotten yourself a girlfriend yet? It would be about time, I had my first child just around your age! Please tell me you have found yourself a nice girl you can bring along to the gathering."
Yiyong had to force himself to not roll his eyes. "No, I do not have a girlfriend."
"Ah, I almost feared it." She sighed dramatically. "See, if you would have gotten a proper job by now, maybe that would be different. You're not an ugly boy, luckily you've got our good genes but...It doesn't surprise me, really. But I mean, if my little sister had managed to find a partner, maybe there's some hope for you as well."
And Yiyong could almost feel his patience rip.
"Watch your words. Just because you couldn't stand my father doesn't mean you get to talk bad about mom! And I have someone, don't worry!"
Both Baosheng and her sister looked at him like fish. He could almost see the similarity between them now. It was otherwise hard to believe that they were sisters.
He bit his tongue.
"But didn't you say you don't have a girlfriend...?"
Of course, that's what she took from Yiyong's outburst. "Yeah, well..." He should have kept his mouth shut. "I don't have a girlfriend...I have a boyfriend."
Yiyong could basically see his mother's urge to punch him written all over her face.
"A...Boyfriend, huh...?" His aunt laughed awkwardly, something resembling disgust flashing in her eyes.
Maybe she wouldn't want to have anything to do with them now anymore and would leave them alone?
"Is he an artist as well?"
Or maybe not...
"He must be, right?" His aunt looked at Baosheng before swiftly looking back at Yiyong. "Right?"
And maybe Yiyong should stop talking to people when he's angry.
"He's a doctor."
His mother buried her face in her hands.
"A doctor?" His aunt declared in delight. "Really? Like a real doctor?"
"Well, a future doctor. He's a medical student."
"My Yiyong that's amazing!" His aunt smiled, seemingly forgetting that she was disgusted at the idea of Yiyong with a boy just moments ago. "You need to bring him along to the gathering! We've never had a doctor in the family. Oh, you're gonna make your grandma so proud."
Well, this didn't go as planned...
"Guangyan, please! You're my only hope!"
"Forget it." The doctor crossed his arms over his chest. "I'm not gonna play your boyfriend because you lied to your aunt. That's bound to disaster. How could you even tell her something like that?"
"I don't know, I was mad and it kind of just happened..."
Guangyan sighed. "Yiyong how are we even supposed to build a whole relationship story in two days? Just tell your aunt that your boyfriend had to jump in for a college and can't make it."
The artist looked off to the side. "Right, because she'll believe that...I should just tell her that I lied because she kept making fun of my art and I wanted to get back at her for it. Like I'm not enough of a disappointment for my mother already..."
Yiyong knew he was playing unfair with the guilty talking but not bringing Guangyan along wasn't an option. His aunt had already informed everyone about the doctor joining their family.
He had no other option but to go for Guangyan's soft heart.
"Oh fuck you...Fine, but just for this one night! We will leave by 11 pm and we will spend the next two days building up the perfect story so neither of us messes anything up...AND you owe me three times over for this."
"Deal!"
The big day of the family gathering arrived way too soon. Before he knew it, Yiyong stood in front of his grandmother's house, dressed in his best clothes and with his "boyfriend" and mother by his side.
"I wanna go home..."
"You brought this onto yourself," his mother reminded him, looking equally as nervous.
Even Guangyan seemed a little on edge. He tried to play it down though. "It's just for a few hours and if things turn for the worse, I'll have Chuying call me, pretending I need to go back for an emergency."
The artist nodded, taking a deep breath.
They had their story laid out in the smallest detail and to be honest, acting in love with Guangyan wouldn't need that much acting so Yiyong should be good. Maybe tonight would crash his hopeful heart a bit but that was something he could deal with later.
While Baosheng walked up to the door, Guangyan reached out for Yiyong's hand, giving it an encouraging squeeze. It managed to calm Yiyong down enough to follow his mother inside.
As soon as they entered the huge living room, it got silent around them, the attention easily drawn toward the highlight of this year's gathering, the doctor.
Yiyong's aunt and grandma quickly made their way over to them, followed by the rest of the family. They didn't even get past the hallway...
"Glad that you could make it, it's been so long since I've last seen you!" Yiyong's grandma told his mother, giving her a quick hug before turning to the couple.
"Yiyong. Who would though, the only grandson of the family would manage to get together with a doctor? Oh, you must be making your mother so proud."
Yiyong was fighting against the urge to just turn around and leave. This was exactly the reason Yiyong and his mother couldn't stand her family.
Just a few hours, he reminded himself. Just a few hours.
"Grandma, this is my boyfriend Cao Guangyan," he introduced as nicely as he could manage.
Guangyan gave Yiyong's grandmother his most charming smile. "It's a pleasure to meet you."
Yiyong knew that he had won her over already. "Such a polite boy. And so handsome as well!"
His aunt quickly piped in. "Didn't I tell you? Just look at these two."
The rest of the family that had gathered around them whispering to each other, eyeing Guangyan like he was the newest attraction in a zoo.
Yiyong could feel the way Guangyan was squeezing his hand, obviously uneasy with the amount of attention he was receiving.
Baosheng luckily came to their rescue. "Will you let them step inside now? You'll have enough time to ask about the details over dinner," she laughed, managing to break apart the crown around them with everyone now scrambling into the dining room, taking their seats.
Yiyong made sure to pull out the chair for Guangyan that was between his and his mother's so no one would get uncomfortably close to him. Guangyan seemed nervous enough as it was, reaching out for Yiyong's hand once more after they sat down.
Yiyong couldn't blame him. He would also rather be home now.
At least his family had enough manners to give them a few minutes of silence to start their dinner in peace, filled with just the usual, polite small talk.
It didn't last all too long through...
"Sooo...Yiyong. We've all been burning to know how you two met! And more importantly how you got together," another one of Yiyong's aunts asked, smiling at them innocently.
Yiyong mentally counted to three so he could prepare himself, going over their story in his head again. "We're actually neighbors. That's kind of how we met. We usually take a similar way to and from work or school so I started walking him to school before going to work and picking him up afterward."
The doctor smiled, joining in. "I thought it was very charming, especially whenever he would wait for me just so I didn't have to walk alone when it was dark already. A lot of my classmates got so jealous of the princess treatment I got from him."
Yiyong couldn't help his own smile, watching Guangyan fondly. He barely registered his relatives gushing over them.
His grandma smiled in delight. "Baosheng, you really raised a gentleman there! I didn't know Yiyong could be like that!"
"What, why not?" Guangyan asked in false disbelief. "Yiyong is the sweetest person I've ever met! He once spent 2 hours waiting by my school during one of my bigger exams because he knew I was anxious about failing and wanted to comfort me as soon as I finished."
"Really?" One of Yiyong's uncles asked in surprise.
"Really. It was also the day he asked me out on our first date. I would have been an idiot to deny him." Guangyan laughed, giving Yiyong's hand a soft squeeze.
Yiyong started blushing helplessly. Guangyan was putting a lot of effort into making him look good in front of his family.
Like, yes the part with Yiyong waiting for him during his exam was actually true. Guangyan had worried himself sick about failing for the first time so Yiyong had promised to pick him up as soon as he was done with the exam but still, Guangyan was making him sound like the main character of some romance novel.
At least with the way, Yiyong's cousins were looking at him now.
"How long have you two been together for then?" His youngest cousin asked, who had been watching Guangyan for all the time he's been here for now.
Yiyong didn't like the way she looked at him...
"1 Year, 2 Months, and 17 days," Yiyong stated almost absently, going back to his food. He had to hold back his grin with the way his cousin's eyes went wide at the detailed answer.
"Over a year already? And we're just now meeting you?" Yiyong's grandmother sighed. "What a shame."
"Around that time I married your uncle," Yiyong's aunt stated, looking at her husband. "Still my most stupid decision but three kids kind of bind you down, huh?"
The others laughed at her stupid joke while Yiyong, his mom, and Guangyan only exchanged a judgemental look.
His aunt looked over at them because of the lack of reaction. Yiyong really got the urge to wipe the stupid grins out of everyone's faces.
What was so funny about marrying someone you clearly didn't love?
"I would have asked Guangyan to marry me already as well, but sadly it's illegal here. So I'll have to wait for that a little longer but until then, luckily I don't need any paperwork to prove what's mine." He looked over at a very much blushing Guangyan, pulling him closer to rub their noses together in replacement of a kiss.
It pulled a genuine giggle from Guangyan, who smiled softly at the artist.
And it did make all the grins drop, everyone now looking at them with their mouth open.
The rest of their dinner was now spent in blessed silence.
It sadly didn't last much longer than that.
As soon as they finished eating and cleaned up, everyone gathered in the living room once more, filling the two huge couches.
(Seriously, how big of a house could one elderly woman need?)
The curious questions of their relatives returned, but this time around, Guangyan and Yiyong didn't get holed with questions, but Baosheng.
Her mother sat down next to Baosheng, grabbing one of her hands like nothing ever happened between them, like she had always been one of her favorite daughters.
"And how did you find out about these two, love?"
Yiyong's mother had never looked quite as uncomfortable as now. "Well, they told me of course..."
Shit. Maybe Guangyan and Yiyong should have involved her in the story.
"I knew it before them though. Far before they confessed to each other. I basically knew the day they met each other," she continued, slowly easing into it.
"Really?" Her mother asked. "How so?"
Guangyan and Yiyong seemed curious as well, even though this was their story.
"Well, Yiyong was fighting his feelings with hands and feet at first but...He just as quickly melted, running around after Guangyan like a puppy. You couldn't separate them and...Let's be honest, I watched Yiyong sneak inside Guangyan's room one too many times not to know."
She winked at her son, promptly making him blush. Guangyan could only chuckle.
She was good at this...It was almost like she was actually telling the truth.
Her sister sat down to Baosheng's other side. "So your motherly instinct was right, huh? Well, it must run in the family."
Yiyong watched his mother swallow down a gag, pressing his lips together so he wouldn't laugh.
At the other end of the couch, Yiyong's youngest cousin let herself fall down next to Guangyan, startling the doctor a little. "So it didn't bother you at all that Yiyong was doing it with a guy?"
"Mikyu!" Her mother exclaimed, giving her daughter a scolding look.
"What? I'm just asking," she defended herself with an innocent smile.
"No, it never bothered me that Yiyong loves a boy. Why should it? As long as my son is happy, so am I and Guangyan is the very best thing that could have happened to him," Baosheng stated, crossing her arms over her chest and looking at her niece in challenge.
So she had picked up on Mikyu's behavior as well, huh?
Yiyong placed a possessive hand onto Guangyan's leg.
It made Mikyu look even more annoyed, leaning closer to them so no one else would hear her. "Be honest, how much did Yiyong pay you to do this bullshit?"
Guangyan frowned. "What do you mean?"
"Oh come on. Look at you, look at him. No way in hell did Yiyong pull a guy like you."
"What's your problem, Mikyu? Jealous that I got a boyfriend before you? Or mad that this one's mine and won't ever be yours?" Yiyong taunted, letting his hand wander up a little higher in Guangyan's thigh, not enough to be inappropriate but enough to be provocative.
The angry frown on his cousin's face told him it worked as intended.
She leaned back against the backrest, crossing her arms over her chest. The next time she spoke up it was loud enough for the rest of the family to hear.
"Oh, now you've got me curious! How about a kiss? Just like you must have done a hundred times before! I'd love to see that."
"Mikyu enough already! What is wrong with you today?" Her mother looked about ready to drag her out of the house by her ear.
Even Guangyan looked pissed now. "I get why you're still single...So annoying."
Before Yiyong could react himself, Guangyan was grabbing him by the back of his neck, looking into his eyes almost apologetically before pulling him in and pressing their lips together.
The artist quickly closed his eyes, trying to not look surprised at all. Or like he was about to vibrate out of his skin.
Oh god, he was kissing Guangyan!
Don't panic, don't panic!
His heart was beating twice as fast as it should.
Yeah, he was panicking.
In order to save himself from a heart attack, Yiyong pulled back after a few seconds, Guangyan following his lead and turning back toward Mikyu. "Happy now, or do you need his tongue down my throat to be satisfied?"
The younger girl looked at Guangyan with huge eyes, opening and closing her mouth in hopes of finding something to respond with.
Her mother was faster though. "Mikyu, how about we have a little talk about our manners, huh? Kitchen, now." The woman instructed, getting up from her spot on the couch.
The rest of the family slowly split up into different groups all around the living room now, sensing the tense atmosphere.
It gave Yiyong enough time to lead Guangyan into an empty hallway further away from the crowd. Both boys leaned against one of the walls, sighing a breath of relief.
"You alright?" The artist asked, looking over at Guangyan.
"Yeah...How about you?" The doctor looked at his best friend as well, his cheeks still bright red.
Yiyong couldn't look any better right now. "I'm good...You just stole my first kiss though," he laughed, almost in disbelief.
Guangyan chuckled. "I'm sorry..." He didn't sound very sorry. "But my god, you didn't lie about how awful your family is."
"Right? Gosh, I hate these people..." Yiyong leaned his head back against the wall, his smile not yet fading. "But...I'm glad you're here...Otherwise, I wouldn't have lived through it till now."
Guangyan was still smiling as well, looking into Yiyong's eyes now. "I'm glad you took me along..."
Yiyong turned toward Guangyan a little more, maybe miscalculating how close they already stood, now finding himself face to face with the doctor, just a few inches separating them.
He tried to swallow past the lump in his throat, not able to look anywhere but into Guangyan's eyes. His heart was starting to beat faster again, and it almost skipped a beat when Guangyan looked down at his lips for a fraction of a second and Yiyong realized that he was starting to lean in and it almost looked like Guangyan was leaning in as well and-
Somewhere in the living room, a wine bottle popped open and cheering erupted, startling the boys apart, looking into the direction the sound had come from.
"Maybe we should get back there before they come looking for us...?" Guangyan turned toward Yiyong again.
"Yeah...Yeah, we should...Can I leave you alone with them for a second though? I uh...Nervous bladder..."
Guangyan rolled his eyes with a chuckle. "Of course, leave me alone with the hyenas. Yes, you can, just make it quick."
Yiyong nodded and they both went in different directions, Guangyan walked back toward the rest of the family while Yiyong rushed into the bathroom, locking himself in and taking a deep breath.
His heart might actually give out soon.
He went to splash some cold water into his face.
This was ridiculous. Guangyan was just trying to help him out and Yiyong almost messed everything up. He didn't need to make this any weirder than it already was.
Fuck, he had almost kissed Guangyan again...
He had to keep himself in check. This was all made up after all. After this night, they would go back to being best friends and all Yiyong would get from it was his first kiss with the first person he ever fell in love with...
Another splash of cold water to his face and Yiyong felt ready enough to go back out there. Just about an hour more and apparently, there is alcohol now so...he should manage just fine.
One last check in the mirror after drying himself off and the artist went back outside.
He was just about to enter the living room when a familiar voice from the kitchen caught his attention. He could hear his cousins as well.
In a split-second decision, Yiyong pressed himself against the wall next to the kitchen door, listening in on them. He cast a quick glance inside, just so he could check if Mikyu was there as well and if Guangyan needed help.
She luckily wasn't though.
"So Yiyong actually takes you out on dates once a week? Every week?" One of Yiyong's cousins asked in amazement.
Guangyan, who was leaning against the kitchen island opposite from the girls, nodded with a smile. "Yeah, they're mostly lunch dates but that definitely counts as a date...So yeah, he likes taking me out on dates a lot I think. It's super cute."
"And apart from dates, how much time does he spend on you?"
The doctor huffed in amusement. "All his time."
The girls exchanged an unbelieving look. "Really all of it?"
Guangyan nodded. "He picks me up from school, we either go home together or we go out, he does some of his work while I do my schoolwork, we read together, I watch him draw, we cook together, we hang out with our mutual friends and we sleep together. We're basically always together."
And Yiyong had to admit that this wasn't a lie.
Now that he thought about it, there was rarely any time he wasn't around Guangyan. Not that he would complain, he liked being around Guangyan it was just...weird how little both of them had to lie to make tonight work.
Maybe he should have drowned himself in the sink to make his heart stop this nonsense.
"Oh right, he does art," Yiyong's oldest cousin spoke up. "And you're fine with that?"
"More than fine. I love his art. I never understood why so many people looked down on him for it...You should really see him draw! He's so focused and makes sure every brush stroke holds meaning and...I don't know how to describe it. I love watching him draw just as much as I love his finished pieces."
Guangyan had the other girls swooning with the way he talked about Yiyong.
The artist didn't know how to feel about that yet.
"I love watching him do about everything though..." the doctor continued, looking down at the floor, his ears turning red with his blush as well.
"Yiyong might not look like it but he's the nicest person I know. Not a bad bone in his body, really. He likes helping others out and is always ready to do favors for his loved ones. If he's passionate about something, he gives it his all and that's something I don't see in a lot of people anymore. He's something very special, not only to me."
"You two really seem like quite the match."
Guangyan chewed at his lower lip, smiling shyly. "Yeah, we really are...It's kind of an opposites attract thing I guess. When we first met everything just evolved around school for me. My life was really boring if I think about it now. But Yiyong...He's all bright colors and loud things and trouble wherever he goes. There's no boring when he's around."
Yiyong's heart seemed to stop beating entirely this time around.
"And opposite to that, his life has been really messy before...With everything that happened...He was lacking something calm and...something constant? I like to think that I kind of bought some routine onto him and that I'm just someone he can always turn to when things get too messy. So while he's the fun in my life, I'm the calm in his? Maybe that's too kitschy though..."
The girls giggled amongst each other like little school girls.
Only his oldest cousin was still looking at Guangyan, smiling almost...knowingly. "You must love him a lot, huh?"
"That easy to tell...?" Guangyan looked at her with an adorable smile.
"Yeah," she answered. "Just by the look in your eyes whenever you talk about him, it's very easy to tell."
"I guess I can't help it..." Guangyan mumbled. "But meeting him was the best thing that ever happened to me and even though many wouldn't get it, I do love him more than anything else...Maybe even more than he himself knows."
Yiyong quickly turned around again, making his way through the hallway, toward the backdoor leading to the porch.
As soon as he stood outside, he took a deep breath, trying to figure out if his heart was beating too fast or not at all right now.
At this rate, he would need to see a doctor after tonight.
Well, he kind of had his doctor with him already but said doctor was also the reason for said heart problems so...
The artist went to sit down on the stairs leading into the yard. It was dark already and kind of cold, but not bad enough to freeze yet.
Closing his eyes, Yiyong took a few more deep breaths, trying to deal with the tight feeling in his chest.
To be honest, the one fear he has had about tonight wasn't the possibility of this whole fake dating thing failing. He knew that it would be easy to fool his relatives.
No, the very thing Yiyong had been afraid of was breaking apart at the display of Guangyan's affection, at the way he would hear the doctor talk about him, and the way they would act around each other.
Yiyong had long ago sunken far too deep in to deny his stupid crush anymore.
But admitting it was one thing...Back then he had sworn himself to never ever let those feelings get to him. He couldn't mess things up with Guangyan, loosing him was not an option.
Not his Guangyan...
Not the one person that did indeed make his life a little less messy. The boy who somehow managed to be Yiyong's biggest comfort, to the point where he didn't want to sleep without him anymore.
Before he could spiral any deeper into his thoughts, the door opened behind him, startled Yiyong a little, his head whipping around to watch Guangyan slowly make his way over, sitting down beside him.
"Didn't I tell you to be quick?" The doctor teased, sliding closer to Yiyong, obviously a little more affected by the cold than Yiyong was.
The artist went to wrap an arm around him immediately. "Sorry, I just..." He didn't finish his sentence. He didn't know how.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Guangyan asked, looking at Yiyong with worry. His gaze was so soft, Yiyong had trouble not getting lost in his big, dark eyes.
They were so close to each other again...
"I'm fine...Don't worry. Just half an hour more and we can finally go home and drop the acting..."
Guangyan hummed but his eyes didn't leave Yiyong's. "You sound sad..."
Yiyong tried to play it down with a laugh. "Why would I be? I just convinced my family that I'm dating a doctor who did an excellent job at making me sound good in front of them."
He looked away after that, not able to stand looking at the other boy anymore.
This would hurt so much more than he had feared...
Guangyan frowned at the artist, waiting if he would look back on his own, and when Yiyong didn't, he carefully guided the artist's eyes back towards his, softly stroking his fingertips against Yiyong's jaw.
"You heard me in the kitchen with your cousins, right...?"
Yiyong nodded, trying hard not to lean into the soft touch. "Yeah...You were very convincing, really. If I didn't know that you were actually smart, I might have feared you lied your way into medical school with how good you are at it."
His frown only deepened. "Yiyong, I didn't lie back there..."
"Oh, suuure. You totally meant it when you told them how special I am," Yiyong huffed, but his words died in his throat with the way Guangyan looked at him.
"I did...I meant all of it. To be honest, I meant most of the things I said today...And maybe you should finally realize why I seem to be able to play being in love with you so easily for both our sakes, you idiot."
Aaand his heart was beating over time again.
"What...?"
Before Yiyong's brain could even try to get back online, Guangyan's hand that had been caressing his cheek up till now grabbed him by the back of the neck again. His eyes were darting between Yiyong's eyes and lips very obviously this time around and he was clearly leaning in and...
Yiyong couldn't have stopped it this time, even if he would have wanted to.
For the second time that night, their lips met and Yiyong was a little more prepared for it now, placing his hands on the side of Guangyan's neck, pulling him closer.
He tilted his head a little and Guangyan did the same, opening his mouth shyly and Yiyong took his chance, deepening their kiss.
His whole body was burning up, every nerve ending on edge, and all his senses got filled with just Guangyan.
He was kissing him again...
Yiyong's excitement got the better of him pretty quickly, their kisses turning sloppy and his hands messing up Guangyan's hair but none of that mattered when Guangyan pushed back just as eagerly, almost crawling into Yiyong's lap now.
Somewhere in the distance, his brain wanted to grasp the fact that this was real, that Guangyan was actually making out with him right now but it was so hard to think when all thoughts turned into mush before they could form.
It also very much rendered down his environmental perception, not realizing that someone else stepped onto the porch with them until-
"If you two fuck on my mother's porch, you're walking home tonight."
Baosheng startled the boy badly, enough to make Guangyan almost fall down the stairs if it wasn't for Yiyong catching him, pulling him onto his lap.
"Mom! What- Why-...You-" Yiyong must be red now all the way up to his ears. "Please don't be mad..."
"Mad?" She sounded downright offended. "Why in the world would I be mad? I've been waiting for this to finally happen, really it surprises me you two managed to dance around each other for so long."
"You knew?" Guangyan scrambled to stand up, pulling Yiyong with him.
The older woman only grinned at them. "I didn't lie when I said I knew it from the first day you met. Now come on, they brought out the cake and after that, we can finally go home!"
The couple exchanged a look before smiling at each other, the ridiculousness of this whole night catching up to them.
Yiyong reached out for Guangyan's hand, placing another soft kiss onto his lips before dragging him back inside, sitting down with his family for one last time.
And if he was being a little messy while feeding Guangyan with cake just so he could have an excuse to kiss the frosting off his mouth, then that was on him and him alone.
