The District 9 Lab, was rumoured to have shut down decades ago due to unsafe practices and child endangerment. However, it never really shut down, it continued the dangerous practices in secret whilst kidnapping young powered children from all around the globe and abusing them for power. No trainee has ever escaped, many had tried but never succeeded.
This brings us to the story… the story of trainees and their tragic lives at District 9.
“Weak” A punch
“Useless” A kick
“Disappointment” He felt a bone crack and held in his cry of pain.
A teenage boy, no older than 16 years old, was on the floor battered and bruised tears clouding his eyes. A man with greying hair and glasses standing over him with a sneer on his face.
“001, you are the oldest, you’re meant to be the role model, the best, you are nothing but a weak little child begging for help, I expect you to continue your training and your privileges to watch over the other trainees is hereby gone,” the older man gave one last kick before leaving the room and locking the door.
001 refused to let his tears fall and continued to fight with the simulator for the next few hours before he collapsed out of exhaustion.
001- The oldest, most feared trainee in District 9, he has received the respect of all trainees and the strongest, power is unknown to all trainees as he rarely ever uses it.
001 opened his eyes and found himself not in the training room but rather in the infirmary, he suppressed a groan of annoyance, the Director would definitely punish him for fainting in the middle of training. He heard a small sound from the door and a young boy with blonde hair locked eyes with him before quickly looking away.
“How long have I been here?” 001 is quick to the point.
“A couple of hours,” the boy is also short to the point. 001 saw a badge on his uniform with the number 006.
001 was about to make a move to get up but the boy immediately said,” Sit down,” he immediately cursed under his breath.
“I mean sorry, but you can’t move yet, you aren’t healed properly…” He says his head lowered.
“I can survive,” 001 proceeds to get up again.
“Wait, can I at least heal your bones and bruises before you go, it’ll only take a minute or two,” 006 says now looking 001 in the eye. Sighing in resignation the older allows him.
006 comes forward and places a hand over 001’s heart and warmth spreads through his body, his hand doesn’t feel like it was struck with an iron crowbar and his ribs feel much lighter.
006 walks away head down again, and 001 quickly leaves without a word and proceeds to go to his room.
Meanwhile, 006 in the infirmary has thoughts racing in his head at a mile a minute, ‘Why was 001 so injured and unconscious?’ ‘Is that what will happen to us when we get higher in rank?’ ‘Boy, my arms feel like jelly right now’ His many thoughts were interrupted when 005 walked in.
“Hey man, you good? Your shift was over a couple of minutes ago, I need to clean up in here, uhh Felix hello are you here on Earth?” 005 waves a hand in front of Felix’s face.
Felix breaks out of his thoughts and smiles at his best friend,” Hey Han, yeah I’ll leave just lost in thought,” he laughs.
“Oh no you don’t, I know that look, something happened, tell me everything right now,” Han makes Felix sit down on the infirmary bed.
“Well, you know 001?”
“Nah obviously I don’t know the oldest trainee here, the most experienced, the scariest, the one we’re supposed to be like,” Han rolls his eyes.
“Oh my god, I might as well not tell you” he makes a move to leave.
“Fine, I’m sorry now continue your story,”
“The guards bought him in here, and he was unconscious and beaten up like crazy,”
“Actually?”
“Yeah, the first time I ever talked to him as well, it was genuinely the scariest feeling ever, it felt like I was being watched by a hawk, my blood felt like ice and everything,” Felix shuddered.
“Ooh, I wanna meet him!” Han says eyes twinkling.
“Uh, did you not hear all the frozen ice and hawks?” Felix stared at him flabbergasted.
“Yeah, I still wanna meet the first-ever trainee! Don’t you get how cool that is?” Han stared at him incredulously.
Felix shrugged before yawning and calling it a night.
“Alright Han, you have fun cleaning up this place” he gave a small wave.
“Felix, I swear if you messed everything up just to make me work longer I'm going to steal your fried chicken tomorrow,”
Felix paled before quickly scurrying out.
005-The only healer in the district, friends with almost all the trainees. According to the director, if he were strong enough he could revive people from the dead.
006-Known as the tension breaker, always cheers up other trainees after training but only hans out with a small group of people
001 walks with his head up through the corridor and he can sense the other trainees stop in their tracks and whisper amongst themselves, he ignores them and continues to his destination, the director’s office.
After a few minutes of walking, he finds himself in front of a large oak door and he braces himself for what’s about to happen before he gives a firm knock.
“The Director isn’t available at the moment, please come back later,” the automated voice says. 001 recoils, the director’s always in his office, something must have happened with the trainees.
Suddenly the door opens and 003 comes out with a duster in his hands and a guard following him.
“Chan! Hey man, sorry the director’s gone out of the district for some reason, he’s coming back later today,” 003 moves to stand in front of Chan.
The guard slams the door closed and 003 scoffs and curses under his breath about stupid guards.
“003 what were you doing in there?” Chan asks tone serious.
“Chan, stop with the formality, the director isn’t here, and the guards sure as hell don’t care if you call me by my real name,”
Chan sighs before allowing himself to give a slight smile.
“Sorry Changbin, what were you doing in there though,”
“Thank you, and if you must know I was tasked to clean his office, even though it was already clean,” Changbin says,” Waste of my time if you ask me, but it’s a nice change of environment though, what happened to you?” Changbin questions.
“How did you know something happened to me?” Chan retaliates.
“Chan, I’ve literally known you for like 10 years, I think I can tell when something happened to you, and I used to be the healer here before Felix,”
“Felix.. That’s his name huh,”
“You’ve met him?”
“Just a few minutes ago, I got ‘punishment’ for trying to talk to one of the trainees yesterday and help with his technique, 007 I think?” Chan sighs.
“Seungmin… god that stupid director, has to give punishments for no good reason,” Changbin mutters under his breath.
"Time to leave," The guard bellows deeply.
Changbin rolled his eyes before bidding Chan farewell.
