A Quiet Morning

Summary:

grace doesn't want to get out of bed. Prompt week day 2: "Hiding in the light"

Notes:

give it up for day 2!!
I figured a lot of people would go with angst for these so here's a bit of a breather <3

Work Text:

Grace groans as she wakes up from movement beside her. It’s by no means early in the day, but she still doesn’t feel like getting up yet. Persephone spent the night (again), borrowed some of her clothes (again), and was the first to wake up (again). Much to her dismay, Grace decides to crack one eye open to see where Persephone is off to.

It’s just the two of them in the apartment. Persephone is wearing some of Grace’s old shorts and a t-shirt that’s slightly too small for her broad shoulders. Her hair is slightly tousled, bent at odd angles, partially from Grace playing with it last night as they fell asleep. Grace watches as Persephone opens the blinds to fill the room with soft daylight before turning back around and leaning down to kiss her forehead. “Good morning, darling.”

Grace smiles and stretches her arms out and around Persephone’s neck, stopping her from pulling away. She puts on her best puppy-dog eyes expression with the full pout and everything. “Come back to bed, please?”

Persephone chuckles and lets Grace pull her in and under the plush blanket, settling mostly on top of her with their legs intertwined. Even if she wanted to, there was no way Persephone could get up again now. She raises an eyebrow and tucks Grace’s hair behind her ear, running a thumb along her cheek. “Is this all you wanted?”

“Hm, not quite.” Grace kisses her sweetly, and takes the opportunity with Persephone now distracted to switch positions. Persephone finds herself on her back and Grace on top of her. Grace rests her head on Persephone’s chest. She secures her arms around her torso, then closes her eyes and listens to the steady beat of Persephone’s heart. She lets out a pleased sigh. “There we go. No escaping again.”

Persephone laughs, the deep rumble echoing in Grace’s ear. “Very well, little bird, if this is how you wish to spend the day.” Persephone hugs her impossibly closer. “Who am I to deny it?”

Grace’s breathing soon starts to slow and even out. And yet, despite how cozy and safe she feels, Persephone is too preoccupied to fall asleep. She is far too busy staring at how beautiful her love is in the late morning sunlight to even think about closing her eyes. Her responsibilities can wait, she could get used to hiding away like this.
