Work Text:
It was a Sunday morning, and Riley Poole was woken up to a pair of lips connecting to his. He smiled and slowly opened his eyes to be met with those of Ben’s. “Good morning.” Ben whispered, and sat at the edge of the bed, making Riley frown. “Cuddle with me.” Ben let out a small chuckle and moved the covers out of the way to get underneath, “Of course.” Riley smiled even wider and rested his head on the older man’s chest, wrapping his arm tight over him and closing his eyes again. Ben pulled Riley in closer and pulled the blanket up over his partner’s bare shoulders, closing his own eyes and letting himself relax in this peaceful setting.
Him and Riley had been in a happy relationship for just over a year and he couldn’t ask for anybody more perfect. Abigail had left, and said she didn’t want the house and that Ben could keep it, so she took all her things and just left. Bed wasn’t himself for a couple weeks after, but knew it was going to happen at some point. They just couldn’t get along with each other, and would always argue. A month afterwards Ben asked if Riley wanted to move in, making the excuse that the house was way too big for just him. Both of them then invited Ben’s parents as well, and they were both glad that they got along with each other better, but it was to fill up the house more, make them all closer together.
They had many great memories together, including game nights, and of course treasure hunts. But Ben’s favourite was when he and Riley first got together. Patrick and Emily were out for the day, and Riley was working on his computer. Ben went into the kitchen to make some lunch for the both of them, when Riley came into the room for a drink. He smiled as Ben gave him the already prepared glass of water.
“Thank you.” He said as he sat down at one of the stools on the other side of the counter, taking a sip of water. Ben hummed in response and continued on stirring the tomato sauce, Riley watching his every move. Ten minutes later, Ben was dishing up the pasta onto two plates, placing one in front of Riley and sat down next to him.
“I didn’t know you could actually cook.” Riley started taking a bite and Ben let out a laugh, “Surprise.” They both laughed before going back to eating their lunch, making useless small talk in between each bite.
After they had both finished Ben took both plates and put them in the sink so he could wash them. He looked over at Riley and saw that he looked a bit nervous. “Are you okay?” Riley didn’t answer him but instead came a bit closer and stood next to him. Ben turned to face him “Riley?” This seemed to pull Riley out of his thoughts and he looked directly into Ben’s eyes, “Um Yeah I’m fine, I just wanted to.” He stopped his sentence short and quickly leaned in and kissed Ben. The older took a moment to process what happened and then kissed back before Riley pulled away. After a minute or so they both pulled away to get their breath back, and Riley instantly looked panicked, “I’m sorry, I just-” He was interrupted when Ben kissed him again, and he immediately melted into it, giving out a sigh of relief.
When they pulled away again, Ben took the time to properly look at Riley, “Is that my jumper?” He asked with a small laugh and a raised eyebrow, Riley blushed and looked down, “Uuhh, no?” He replied, sounding a bit embarrassed, keeping his head down. “Well I think it’s cute.” Ben said, making Riley snap his head up and blush an even darker shade of red. Ben chuckled and gave him a small kiss, making Riley smile.
They kept it a secret from Ben’s parents for just over a week before telling them. Well they saw them kiss when they walked in the room, and they couldn't exactly make up an excuse of why they were kissing, so they told them. They were relieved that the reaction wasn’t bad, but they couldn’t stop laughing at the fact that Patrick turned around and said “You couldn’t have waited another week?” Before handing Emily two $20 bills.
Ben was snapped out of his reminiscing by Riley moving against him, he looked over at the clock and saw it was 11am. He looked down at his partner and brought his hand up to his hair, slowly coaxing Riley out of his sleep. The younger one opened his eyes and looked up at Ben, “Come on, time for breakfast.” He said starting to sit up, making Riley groan in annoyance. “No arguing, up.” Ben said, smiling at his partner's stubbornness.
After much convincing, Ben finally managed to get Riley out of the comfort of bed and into a pair of joggers and one of Ben’s jumpers. The pair made their way across the house and down to the kitchen, hands interlocked the entire way. When they entered the kitchen, Patrick glanced at them and took a sip of his coffee.
“Good morning, there’s still coffee in the pot.” He said as Riley sat himself down on one of the chairs, whilst Ben fixed him a mug of coffee. Gratefully taking a drink of it when handed to him. “Good morning.” He finally replied and placed his head in his crossed arms on the counter making Ben fondly smile at him and Patrick shake his head slightly. “Why can’t I stay in bed?” Riley asked quietly, only lifting his head up when Ben placed a plate of toast in front of him, just the way he liked it, Strawberry jam lightly spread over and cut across into triangles.
Ben decided he wouldn’t have his life any different.
