Work Text:
The exhaustion gnaws at his body when he slumps to the ground. The sun is hanging high above in the sky with her bright rays falling onto earth, laying a comforting blanket of warmth over him. He can feel the sharp grass he's lying on — piercing him, tickling him. Like it's trying to tell him, to get up, the day's not over yet. His eyes sting, his ankle throbs and his body feels oh so heavy. The adrenaline has vanished and only the endless pit of exhaustion remains.
He squints his eyes shut and when he opens them again he can dream of lying on a different pitch, of playing for a different team, in a different country. Far away from this hell that he has willingly put himself in. Far away under the same sun just with a different moon.
A moon which reflects the light of the sun and thus creates its own. And yet his moon doesn't shine for him alone. He shines for a thousand stars and he's one of them. Small and tiny next to its moon. Easy to miss and never as bright as its moon. Never.
And instead of accepting it for what it is, he tried to become a sun. Something that surpasses the glory of the moon. And yet a simple star like him can't possibly become a sun brighter than the moon. And now, because of his selfishness, he has become a shooting star. Falling through the sky, his light fading day by day, night by night.
With expectations weighting him down further. Further and farther
One day he's going to vanish, never to be wished on again. No one ever again watching him in all his glory. Because this glory does not exist anymore. He's going to be forgotten. Like all other stars that wished to become something bigger than themselves.
But before his mind's eye he can dream. Dream of better times. Where he was still a rising star next to its moon. Not appreciated but not overlooked. Helping its moon shine in all of it's glory. Like a ball of light and hope in the darkness of the unknown.
Next to his moon he shone. Next to his moon he loved.
