Art Imitating Life

Summary:

She is looking at you now, just like Sara looked at Michael.

Work Text:

You are both leaning on the balcony railing looking out on the city. The dusky afterglow of the setting sun filling the sky. It is quiet. Too quiet but neither of you speaks. She is trying to gather her thoughts and you are giving her time to do so.

"Do you ever wonder if in another time and place...?" she begins.

You smile and a soft chuckle escapes your lips. "That's my line."

"Right. How about 'They told me when I took this job not to fall in love with a costar.'"

She is looking at you now, just like Sara looked at Michael. Her head is lowered; questioning, uncertain eyes peeking through strands of chocolate hair that fall over her eyes.

The moment has finally come. And you have to make a decision. You could say, "I won't be that man" especially now. But if she is here now, especially now, asking, how can you say no?

In the time it has taken for you to make a decision, she has moved closer, her left arm resting lightly against your right. Her face mere inches from yours. So you turn, cock you head to the side and give her a wordless but no less meaningful answer. And you know that when you see her tomorrow on set, just to drive the point home, you will whisper "Me, too" in her ear and wait for that subtle smile that says so much.

I wrote this back in 2007. I loved them!
