- You're not going to force me to watch Star Wars.- Silena laughed, looking at Clarisse.
- Yes I'm gonna, you're not getting out of it, Beauregard.- daughter of Ares looked back at her.
They were laying on the grass, with a little forest glade around them, blooming flowers wherever they looked, warm rays of sun sparkling between branches of trees and landing on there faces, leaving them with nice warm feeling. Soft wind carried the sweet smell of strawberries from the camp and It was the only sign that It's still there.
It was a good thing because technically they should be participating in camp activities with the rest of there cabins right now, but somehow found moment to sneak out and just hang out without any noisy campers sticking noses in their buisness.
To be honest, mostly Clarisse was really determined to hide from other campers eyes. She didn't wanna deal with her stupid siblings teasing her about spending suspiciously long time with one of the Aphrodite's daughters, not like she would care, It was for their own safety.
Silena wasn't really against it, Drew would love to let out gossips about them being togheter to just fly around the camp without any control.
So they found this place, usually they were sneaking out at night or after meals, but today they somehow got lucky with it.
- Who would thought that scary, mighty Clarisse is a sci-fi nerd.- Silena tried to change the subject.
- I'm not a nerd!- she got up, looking at her with reaproach
- Yeah, yeah, tell me about it.- Silena rolled her eyes with a little smirk appearing on her face.
- Oh, shut up. Just watch the fucking movies.- she was convinced that Silena was putting some sort of spell on her, because normally her response would be to broke a nose of punk who dares to call her that and act so nonchalant about it but when she's with that stupid Aphrodite's girl, anger is gone as soon as she hears that very contagious laugh of hers.
- Ok, ok. But be prepared that I'm going to judge every ship that I see.- she responded trying to put an serious expression on her face.
- You know what? I just know that you're going to cry me a river because of Anakin and Padme.
Silena also sat down and looked Clarisse up and down.
- You're speaking from personal exeperience?- she said after that and yes, Clarisse wouldn't admit it but It was from personal experience.
- First of all I'm not crying because of fictional characters!
- Everyone always say that and that's never true...
- Second of all...- Clarisse tried to ignore the interaption- I'm suposed to be the mean one here, don't take my role away!
- I'm not mean, just honest.- she moved closer to her friend- And you're not 'the mean one' you are just a biggest teddy bear I've ever seen who's just a little angry all the time.
Not letting daughter of Ares response with anything, she grabbed a bandana Clarisse was wearing on the forehead and pulled it down to cover her eyes.
- Oi, what the shit, Silena?! You're not getting away with this!- she blindly lunged forward and pulled Silena into tight hug, well It was something between ovepowering grip and hug, but It quickly turned into a little play fight.
For a past few months Silena tried to break some walls Clarisse build around physical affection. It was a slow process but It worked, she was a little harsh with it and was never showing it publicly but Silena was really happy about seeing that gentle and soft side of her.
Sometimes she wished to experince it more, more than just casual hugs and things like that.
She wanted to have Clarisse's muscular arms around her all the time, hold her hand without caring If anyone is looking, lay head on her chest, while looking at the stars from cabin 10 roof, feel her warm lips and tongue, while making out in the bathroom instead of being on the cabin counselors meeting... wait, what she was even thinking about?! She quickly pushed away these thoughts. Clarisse probably donesn't even like girls and If she does, she wouldn't chose her...
- Are you okay?- Clarisse's voice woke her up from that trance.
She was currently laying on Clarisse with her face just few inches from the other girl face, looking straight into her dark eyes sparkling with all the shades of red now, when sun was lightning up her freckled face.
Silena quickly get of her, begging in her head to not blush.
When she finally made sure that heart was not going to snatch out from her chest, with the fact how fast It was beating, she looked back to daughter of Ares, her eyes were no longer sparkly and full of colors, they were just plain dark brown, almost black.
- We should head back to camp, It's almost dinner time...- even her voice lowered and sounded more plain.
- Yeah, you're right.- Silena got up, picking up her things from the ground.
She was so stupid for just jumping off her, like she was disgusted or something, she hoped that It wouldn't give her crush (It's still sounded a weird in her head but couldn't denied it anymore) any wrong idea about her feelings.
She turned around after a moment for taking few deep breaths, just for a little more bravery, just to see Clarisse strugling to adjust straps on her armour, that she just put on, Selina quickly decided to break the akward silence.
- Do i even want to ask why did you came here in armour and helmet?
- I was about to kick Sherman's ass on training but he landed in the infirmary because of Travis and Connor.- she explained calmly, almost like It was completely normal for Cabin 5 campers to hurt themeselves because of the weirdest accidents... wait, that's exactly how it was.
- What? What happened? I thought we have about... few months before they become danger to society.
- I mean... It was kinda Sherman's fault.- Clarisse gave up on trying to tighten up the straps and focused on taming her hair, that earnestly wanted to be free from prison of Mark's hair gel that she was stealing every day.
- That's a plot twist actually. I want details.- she stood behind her, gently grabbing buckles that were loosely hanging from the chestplate.- And in meantime let's sort this out.
- I got this Sil. You don't have to.- Clarisse wouldn't admit it but she internally screamed when Silena's breath unexpectedly brushed back of her neck.
- Aww, stop acting like a baby and talk about what's important.- she answered, while already working on the armor.
- Gods, okay...- She was definitely not okay with Silena being so close to her right now.- They somehow colored his hair pink, while he was asleep, so he chased them this morning across the camp.- she stopped for a moment to take a deep breath, she couldn't entirely concentrate with the prettiest girl she's ever seen almost leaning on her back- When Stolls ran in their cabin, Sherman wanted to go after them but front stairs colapsed under his fat ass and he sprained an ankle. He's still pissed about it.- she couldn't stop herself from a little smirk, because you don't see your brother, with hair looking like cotton candy, screaming at the top of his lungs, while few people are tryng to stop him from comiting murder everyday.
- Sounds like something that would happened to you.- Silena answered, not even stopping what she was doing for a moment.
- If it was anybody else but you who said this, they would get smacked immediately... just so you know.- she added after a second, It was something in Silena that was making all of this emotions that normally led to her being furious to stay as a slight annoyance that faded quickly as she stared into those beautiful watercolor eyes or felt touch of these delicate and at the same time strong hands.
- I know but I like messing with you sometimes, you look so cute when you're frustrated.- Clarisse blushed to the tips of her ears, she was thanking all the mighty beings of this world that Silena couldn't see this- Oh and also I'm not scared of you at all.- you could almost hear her sly smile in the tone of her voice as she said it.
The only thing Clarisse managed to say afetr this was quiet:
- Yeah, I know you're not...
After this they just stood in silence, thinking about one another, about how they both badly want to do something that could potentialy either ruin everything between them or make it into something that nobody could take from them.
Those little things when the hearts beat faster, the cheeks turned red and sleeples nights when their minds wandered to memories of every minute they were together, in that moment could turn into quick kisses during the day, holding hands while sitting on the roof of Mr. D's stolen car and falling asleep with each others arms wraped around them, not caring if noisy siblings were watching or not, not being scared of what their parents say when they found out about them.
But neither of them moved, neither of them would, could do anything about Silena's warm breath on the back of Clarisse's throat, that was driving her insane, she thought about how she was a daugther of Ares, god of war, how she's supposed to be the brave one, the turculent one, the impulsive one, the one who would turn around look this Aphrodite's girl deep in the eyes, without the shade of hesitation tell her everything she felt and kiss her with all the strenght she had in herself but she just stood there, hands squeezed into fists, taste of blood in the mouth from a cut lip, that she damaged by biting it to much, trying not to make any sounds.
Because what she could possibly tell a daughter of Aphrodite, what could she offer someone who literally has love flowing in her blood. All her life she thought that being a warrior was enough to get over any obstacle, she didn't think that the log laying on her way would be her own heart, which wasn't very good at keeping emotions inside for long and that was what made her worry, because she couldn't imagine how because of it, she would have to look into those beautiful blue eyes in tears and then lose it forever. On top of everything was someone like her was even worthy of love, she was taught that love is worthless and weakens people, so could she love someone, is she physicaly capable to do that, this question was just banging in her head everytime she thought about being with someone. Typical- what would your father said about it? Would you disapoint him? Are everyone gonna turn there back at you If you do? Who are you when you're not doing everything to be the toughest of the cabin 5? Is being tough equal not being competely happy...?
Silena also was having a battle in her mind, battle about wanting to grab Clarisse by the hips, pull her close and kiss her neck, whispering in her ear how much she fell for her from the moment she saw how wonderful person was hiding under those ashes of anger and frustration that always surrounded her.
She never felt her mothers presence so much as in this moment, It was almost like she was speaking to her, through the warmth of Clarisse's body, through the armor straps refusing to tighten properly, forcing her to keep in contact with the potential girl of her life, that strange feeling in her stomach that seemed to subside only if she would decide to scream out loud what she felt.
It had always seemed to her that Aphrodite would reveal herself to her in gentle gestures and sensual whispers but she felt it in the loud, wild screams she heard, while playing capture the flag or in sneaking out of camp to go to McDonald's at night, ranting about movies and comics which she now knew more about than she ever wanted to, in trainings, in which she was never considered the weaker one in advance ... Her face of love was not a scene from a romantic movie, where she runs together with the handsome man of her life towards the setting sun, but this one girl with short chaotic hair, with bruises on her knees and knuckles, the one that many campers avoided for every cost, she was her definition of love... But Silena was definitely not the one Clarisse was looking for, they were too different from each other, It was just a painful truth.
And then it clicked, no, it's not that either of them got the courage to confess their feelings, Silena just managed to tighten up the last strap on Clarisse's armor. Neither of them could tell If they are happy that It was over or not.
Selina managed to blurt out the uncertain:
- I think It's all good now...
- Yeah, thanks.- Clarisse said, running her sweaty hand through her hair- I'll better be going, those idiots are going to do something stupid If I'm not there before dinner...- she grabbed her helmet and started walking slowly towards the path leading to the camp.
- Yes, of course, I'll stay here for a while so we don't go in together.- she gave Clarisse a litlle smile- Are we still set for tonight? Maybe you can talk me into this several dozen hours of films about aliens.- it was her frantic attempt to ease the tension between them.
- Hell yeah and It's more than just aliens, I need to culture you more than watching the Kardashians.- she put on her helmet and smiled underneath it, Silena breathed a sigh, relieved that her attempt had worked
- Watch out or I'm going to color your hair pink!- somehow it sounded like a serious threat coming from Silena's lips.
- I like to see you try!- neither of them knew how they always managed to turn from the most awkward moments into jokingly messing with each other, but this ease between them seemed to make them even more attracted to one another.
- But you'll look so pretty!- Silena screamed, when Clarisee practically disappeared behind the forest thicket.
- Fuck you, Sil!- Clarisse tried you sound serious but you could hear laughter in her tone.
- See you, at the dinner!
- See ya!- was the last thing Silena heard before being left in the silence, interrupted from time to time by the sounds of birds and the rustle of leaves.
Even now, when she was alone, she felt Aphrodite's presence, as if she was trying to tell her that even if she didn't let her love in through the door, she would still come in through the window, never escaping the dream of those dark eyes and full lips and freckled skin, covered in scars...
