Chapter Text
It’s kind of funny, walking around a place you're so familiar with but being so nervous.
The always-active town of Torigoth was always a welcome sight. Kids playing in the water fountain in the center of town, shops lining what little streets there were owned by excited merchants peddling their wares, the near-constantly beautiful weather that blessed the Gormotti titan. There wasn’t much not to like about this lovely little town, especially for a visitor as frequent as Pyra.
The fiery Aegis had become very well-acquainted with this wonderful epicenter of trade and commerce over the years. From personal visits for groceries and decorations for her home, to leisurely strolls with her close friends that usually ended with chats over smoothies at Café Savvy. And of course how could she forget the ever-memorable evening strolls she had with her…Driver…
And just like that, the source of Pyra’s great discomfort appeared in her head like an unwanted guest. Well, that analogy didn’t quite work. Things would be so much simpler if there was an easy answer for Pyra’s recently developed anxiety about Rex. After all, thoughts of Rex weren’t at all unwelcome inside Pyra’s head. In fact, they were far too sought after.
Pyra…liked Rex. Well, to say that she just liked him would be the understatement of the century. She was…obsessed? No, that would imply a certain need to always have him around, lest Pyra become dysfunctional, and Pyra was most certainly capable of going 2 minutes without Rex’s company and managing to not spontaneously combust from loneliness. Pyra quite enjoyed her alone time when the house got a bit noisy, actually. No longer having another consciousness inside your head was a nice change of pace that allowed for complete silence once in a while. Pyra’s fascination with her Driver lied somewhere in between “deeply loving” and “obsessed.”
You might ask, “Gee, Pyra. Why would the thought of a person you love so deeply bring you so much distress, ya big dumb?” and Pyra would be happy to answer you, because that question so clearly echoes the one her own head has been throwing at her for days now. It’s the same question that Mythra would have no-doubt asked her, had she still been living in her head. (Well, given how Mythra’s feelings about Rex right now echoed hers, maybe that wouldn’t actually be the case.) However, despite the fact that Pyra has been completely aware how weird her current state of mind is for quite some time now and that she’s pondered that state of mind for about as long as it’s been present, she would probably only offer you that her feelings are too complicated to give you a concise answer. Doesn’t mean she wouldn’t give a long-winded explanation a try, though.
Pyra loved Rex. That one should be pretty obvious. There weren’t many people involved in Pyra’s life that wouldn’t be able to guess that those two deeply cared for each other in a way that far-passed the bounds of a platonic relationship, even if they weren’t told about the nature of Pyra and Rex’s relationship. Pyra was deeply comfortable in his company, even when the nature of their relationship was not yet explicitly romantic. (At least, it wasn’t to them. At a certain point, every one of their friends knew where Pyra and Rex’s companionship was headed.)
Pyra loved spending time with Rex. She loved talking with Rex. She loved living with Rex. She loved going on walks with Rex. She loved helping Rex with his work. She loved training with Rex. She loved flirting with Rex. She loved talking about their mutual friends with Rex. She loved talking about the future with Rex. She loved having sex with Rex. It wasn’t the existence of these thoughts that made Pyra anxious. It was what she was going to do with the rest of her life that she had to spend with Rex that worried her.
“What’s the endgame of our relationship? What do we do with the remainder of our lives? Do we spend the rest of our days helping others through the mercenary group? Do we eventually retire? Do we expand our family? Do we have kids? Do we…get married?” That word. That one concept that shook the foundation of Pyra’s relationship with Rex as well as the foundation of her life. Marriage.
To an outside observer that might seem like a no-brainer. Pyra and Rex have loved each other for a long time, and it was clear that neither one of them was planning on ever ending the relationship. Marriage seemed like the next logical step.
But for whatever reason, Pyra just…couldn’t bring herself to fully accept that conclusion. Let there be no mistake; Pyra wanted to marry Rex. She just wasn’t sure if he wanted that as well, or more accurately, if marriage would change how they treated each other in a way that one or both of them would be unhappy with.
A voice inside Pyra’s head offered reasoning that essentially boiled down to: “Well, if we’re this happy right now, then what’s the point of changing things up? Why bring in this new thing that could potentially upset the peace of what we already have?”
-SMUT-
But every time that thought came up, that reasoning would immediately be countered with another voice inside her head that said: “But don’t I want to make this thing official? Don’t I want to see all of our friends be happy for us? To slip a ring on each other’s fingers? To live out our happiest day on earth, our wedding day? To go home after a day of partying and celebration, and fall onto our large bed together, letting him climb on top of me, let him whisper in my ear, let him take hold of my hands as he enters me, finally starting the process of creating a new life together?” And this is where Pyra’s thoughts about marriage became REALLY hectic.
The voice in her head would continue: “Oh, that’s right, let’s not forget about the sex. I know how good it feels to get fucked by him as things stand right now, but imagine how much more importance will get placed upon that act once we’re both wearing those little metallic bands. To know that we’re not just fucking for pleasure any more, we’re fucking to get something DONE. Making love to bring something new into the world will make it that much more intense. To know that night and the nights that come after will determine how the rest of their lives will play out.”
Pyra bit her lip and looked around herself. She was standing in the middle of a crowded street with fidgeting legs as she was living out this devious little fantasy inside her head. Nobody was really paying attention to her, either distracted by the stalls to the left and right of her peddling their wares, too busy walking with a destination mind, or preoccupied with the beautiful green scenery around them to notice one Blade blushing profusely. It probably helped that the shade of red her face was becoming just kind of blended in with her hair color.
Pyra swiftly fast-walked down the alley to her left; a familiar location. This was the same place where she, Rex, and Nia had been when they first fought Brighid. That was a while ago now, but Pyra still liked to reminisce pretty frequently about the happier parts of her and Rex’s journey. Well, “happy” only in comparison to what would happen later. Having a bit of a tussle with Mor Ardain’s strongest Blade who all three of them would later befriend seemed like a joyful frolic through the park when compared to having to see the look of hopelessness on Rex’s face as he thought Pyra and Mythra were going to perish with the World Tree. It was also the same place where the gang first met Praxis and Theory, a similarly fond memory, though that encounter also didn’t exactly make for the best first impression.
However, the fondness that Pyra held for this place definitely made what she was about to do even more uncomfortable, as once she found a suitably quiet spot where she could tuck herself against a wall, she leaned her back against the stone behind her, and slowly traced her hands down her legs and to her shorts. With shaky hands she then tucked her thumbs inside both sides of her shorts and steadily tugged them down until they were around her ankles so she could kick the small piece of clothing off her feet. Pyra didn't really bother wearing underwear, (For whatever reason, the Architect didn’t see fit to give her a pair of those when making her like he did with Mythra. She never really minded, though. Just wearing shorts didn’t bother her much.) so her pussy was laid bare to the warm Gormott air. With her fingers now gently teasing the outside of her vagina, she continued her fantasy.
