Jealousy Can Lead to Love

Summary:

What if Phayu started tutoring a group of his juniors?

Notes:

Based on a prompt - How would Phayu and Rain fall in love if Rain never sneaked into the race? How much would the story change?

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️

Phayu could easily remember how cute that boy was, holding an umbrella above them both, so he didn’t get anymore wet. While changing the tire. The sentence “Although I can’t help you change the tire, I can hold the umbrella so you don’t get wet.” did funny things to his brain. It made him instantly attracted to the sweet boy. Not that it made any real difference to him, he was already wet since he was riding his bike in the rainfall, but the gesture was sweet, really sweet. It was extremely innocent, and it intrigued him. Such a shame that he didn’t ask for the boy’s name. Or for the phone number, at the very least, but he was distracted making sure that the boy would be able to go home. Safely. As fast as possible. So he wouldn’t get sick, or more sick than was already going to be, for standing in the rain.

His prayers to meet that cute boy again were answered, just a few days later. In his codeline group chat, there was a message about their newest junior, along with a picture of a beautiful smiling boy, sitting on the floor. Not to mention familiar. Then Phayu realized that it was the boy from the other night. The one with a blown tire on the black BMW. Rain, how sweet. He met Rain in the pouring rain. That cemented the decision to come to the codeline gathering, instead of skipping it. Like he usually did. Until that text, he was still debating whether or not to go. He had work to do, more than enough.

Phayu knew he was coming late to the gathering, but the meeting ended later than planned. So, it wasn’t his fault. Not this time. When he arrived to the restaurant where the codeline usually gathered, he parked his bike. The moment he entered, he noticed Rain, smiling happily at him. But, Phayu decided to play it cool, since Rain forgot to introduce himself properly. The sentence “Hey, you’re that P’Phayu” didn’t sit well with him. He notably disliked it, if he was being honest. It was purely disrespectful, even if it was obvious that Rain didn’t mean it like that. He could understand the excitement, but his cute boy would learn. Eventually. For now, he pretended not to recognize Rain. Even if that made the cute boy frown. And sad, too. The most adorable frown he has ever seen in his life. This didn’t stop his boy from staring at him the whole night. So inviting, wanting look he was giving Phayu.

Later that night, he went out for a bit. He had just the perfect amount of time to take a spark plug from Rain’s car and make it unable to start. He also took a quick look over the black BMW, its engine, and he was honestly shocked. How was this car still working? The cute boy was lucky, so very lucky, that it didn’t stop working somewhere on the road. And Phayu was grateful to have noticed this. Or else Rain could have got hurt by his own recklessness. Something he really didn’t want to happen. He would need to teach Rain more about cars, and he would always check the car’s state. Once the cute boy was his. Truly. Never again would he allow it to get into this condition.

Since Phayu made certain that the car wouldn’t start, he wasn’t worried that Rain would leave before they talked. Not even a little bit. His plan worked, not that it wasn’t expected. After he heard the horn, he went to check on the boy, easily falling into a good, helpful senior persona. It’s not like he was lying about it. Just, his thoughts weren’t the purest, especially not about the pretty boy who couldn’t take his eyes away from Phayu, for the whole evening. If that wasn’t a seductive call, he would never know what was.

The boy begged him for help, fluttering his eyelashes, holding his hand, smiling so adorably at him, like an experienced sub. Well, that did make things a bit easier, hooking up, at least. He genuinely loved the sweet boy’s reaction. Phayu dropped a sentence “If you’re thinking of seducing me, next time… be smoother.” Simply wanting to see how his lovely boy would react. Apparently, he was either misheard or ignored. He found it amusing. He called Aon to tow Rain’s car, offering Rain the choice of going with Aon in the truck or with him on the bike. Cute boy chose the truck. Just as he hoped. He used the ride back to the garage to clear his head. It was necessary to do it. How could he survive a ride home with Rain, otherwise?

🌧🌧🌧🌧🌧

Rain was very grateful to Phayu, for taking him somewhere warm and dry. He would be lying if he said differently. Or thought, for that matter. The shower was absolutely welcome, and extremely necessary. Borrowing clothes to him was truly a kind gesture, and he was thankful for the help his senior offered him. After he warmed up under the splash of hot water, he walked out of the bathroom. Wiping his hair, harshly, on the way into a room, as he looked around. He was amazed that Phayu’s family business is an autoshop, a luxurious one, at that. And to be the only person in his year (and the other years, too) who knew that little piece of information, when everyone else was wondering, felt good. Surprisingly so. He couldn’t wait to tell his friend Sky, so excited to share this little piece of information.

Rain reminded Phayu about the repair fees they needed to discuss. The senior invited him to sit next to him on the bed, offering to dry his hair. He accepted the offer, delighted. Phayu was so gentle with his hair, lightly tapping on some parts, applying more pressure to others. Rain felt like he was in heaven. Or in a hair salon. The feeling of someone else playing with his hair, gently tapping it with a towel, and slowly massaging with their fingers brought comfort. Until, without any reason that he could understand, Phayu trapped him with his body. Kissing him on the neck, and chin. Pushing him back to bed when he struggled with words “Stop playing hard to get. You’re the one who followed me up here, Rain.” And while he enjoyed this, whatever this was, subconsciously, it still scared him. Blurting out the question if Phayu was gay, to which he got an answer that the senior was actually bi. Phayu didn’t stop after the question, he continued. Until Rain hit him with a pillow and yelled “Go die, you fucking jerk! Asshole! I wasn’t seducing you, and I never thought of it!” Screaming how he would never be with someone like him. Alright, Rain did stuff without thinking them through. Often. It’s just how he always was, all his life. His mama could confirm it. So could his dad, and Sky.

Phayu put the pillow on the leather couch in the room, letting Rain sleep there. The only condition was to stay quiet even if he didn’t. Sleep, that was. The couch was quite uncomfortable, and he was really cold, shivering even, so falling asleep on it was impossible. He stayed awake for a long time, and he finally moved to the bed. As soon as he made sure that Phayu wasn't pretending. Even went as far as to poke the senior to check if he was awake or not. He might not have been as gentle as he hoped, but he tried his best. Quickly falling asleep, in the warm bed. Snuggling close to the warmth right next to him.

Next morning, Rain felt immediate relief that nothing happened. He was still fully dressed and that relaxed him. Phayu saying that just because both of them are fully clothed didn’t mean that they didn’t have sex, caused part of his panic now. The other part came from the fact that the senior was approaching him as he hurriedly got up and ran to the door. His heart started beating fast, really fast, when Phayu stood right behind him. He was afraid, honestly. Worrying about what he would and could do to Rain was understandable. Luckily for him, the mean senior (new nickname Rain decided on because of his actions last night) only wanted to unlock the door. He didn’t like being called out for being “too good at being dumb”, and the kiss on the cheek sparked some emotions that Rain wouldn’t dare mention. Ever again. They were so confusing, so conflicting. And he didn’t understand why he felt like this. He didn’t like Phayu, he couldn’t like him.

🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️

Rain was the most adorable person Phayu has ever met. Certainly. When his cute boy left the garage, Phayu got to work on his car. And he could think about the sweet boy. How he snuggled close, hugging him, while still asleep. Adorable, so precious. That was the exact moment when Phayu knew with certainty. He liked Rain. And he wanted more than just one night with the boy. So much more. Yes, he did know that Rain wasn’t his yet. But that was only a technicality. For now. And it would change, if he had anything to say or do about it. He did. This pretty innocent boy would be his, no one else’s. Because, even if he had to share with Saifah all his life, he wasn’t good at sharing. He really disliked it.

This black BMW was extremely important to him, on a deeply personal level. That’s why he put it first, even before Pakin’s bikes. Phayu would take care of them later, because he would never escape from his obligations. He would just prioritize them differently. The race wasn’t until next Friday, so he had enough time. If he cut down the sleep hours, a bit. But he would fix Rain’s car, on his own. He was not leaving it for an employee to do. That was the top priority.

He finally did it. He fixed the car, replaced all the parts that needed to be replaced, waxed and polished. The car looked brand new. Phayu was satisfied with how it looked now. More importantly, he was pleased with how the car worked, because safety is imperative. All of the employees in the garage got the message - “Boss has a new lover”. Why else would he take time out of his remarkably busy schedule to fix a BMW? His brother could tease him about it all he wanted, Pai could do the same thing. Phayu didn’t care. It was the time to focus on other things, like tuning the race bikes.

He made sure not to be present when Rain came to get the car. He wanted to know if his boy would come and greet him. Not very likely, but he thought he should check. The least he could do is that. The cute boy might have surprised him. He didn’t, but Phayu wasn’t in a mood to dwell on it. He had the phone number, and the devilish smirk appeared on his face. Along with a wink, which seemingly made Aon interested. More than his employee already was. Not that he would ever say anything to him, Phayu is still his boss, even if he respected Aon immensely. A lot of that respect came from the fact that he knew Aon wouldn’t gossip around. That’s why he was the most trusted employee. One of them at least, since Nui was also very trustworthy.

Since text messages and calls could be misunderstood and ignored, he knew he had to tell Rain in person. To inform the boy exactly what he wanted as a fee for car repair. Not money, just as his sweet boy was informed when he came to pick the car up. It wasn’t that huge, just respectful talking, without cursing. That brought him to the architecture faculty, on the only day off he had that week. He looked around, and asked one girl if she knew Rain. The trick was asking her about his cute boy, without actually telling her the name of the person he was looking for. She didn’t know who he was asking about, that was until his boy came. Then she realized “Oh, you meant Rain, P’Phayu. I thought so, but wasn’t sure”, but he had no interest in her. Even if she had an obvious crush on him. He filed it in the ‘possibly useful future information’ category in his mind.

Much to Phayu’s delight, Rain’s reaction was beautiful. He expected nothing less from his darling boy. The moment when his mouth was covered by the cute boy’s hand made him smile. Later, of course. Not at this moment. He had to keep his cool demeanor, for now. He let himself be dragged by his lovely boy to the bathroom, and into the stall when two other students entered. He had Rain trapped between himself and the wall, not letting the boy leave. Not that his lovely boy wanted to, since two of his juniors (and Rain’s seniors) were right there in the bathroom. Phayu breathed down on the boy’s neck, making him flustered. It was like an invitation to continue, so he did. Rain reacted exquisitely. It wasn’t that he couldn’t stop all this. His sweet boy, so adoringly submissive to him, only had to say “P’Phayu, please let Rain go” and “Rain promises not to use vulgar words with Phi again”. And he would, no doubt about it.

When Rain finally said those two sentences, he told him that they were alone. Unlocked the stall and his sweet boy ran out and sat down (well more like collapsed) on the floor, right next to the sinks. They had a short conversation.

“I told you I was here to collect a debt. And I told you before to speak politely. Since you didn’t listen to my warning, I had to use a more effective method. I don’t like boys who speak rudely.”

“You weren’t trying to take liberties with me?”

“Even though I am bisexual, I do have preferences. All right, I’m leaving now. And if you speak rudely next time… Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

He turned to leave, satisfied with the warning he gave Rain. Hopeful that his darling boy would heed the warning and obey. He wasn’t blind, he knew that the cute boy was hard. He simply chose to ignore that little fact. Just like he ignored that he could clearly hear his boy yelling as he was leaving. He chuckled to himself about that. He was exiting the faculty as soon as he was done with his sweet boy, because Phayu had no patience to deal with any of his juniors today.

🌧🌧🌧🌧🌧

After Phayu left Rain alone, he could finally breathe. He yelled at the empty space “There won’t be a next time! Do you hear me, you bad senior? You jerk! You better remember this!” He then started freaking out to himself. What has he just done? What was wrong with him? How stupid could he be? Sky came into the bathroom and tried to get him to stand up. Rain’s utter embarrassment wasn’t helping. He was so flustered over liking this (whatever it actually was) so much to get a boner. He just didn’t get it, at all. How could he get hard from a guy’s presence? No matter how hot the guy in question is, how handsome. But he had no idea how to explain what happened. The mean senior didn’t force him to do anything, no kissing, no touching, just breathing on him with extremely hot breath. All over his neck, even collarbone and cheeks too. Phayu also offered him a way to stop it, but Rain didn’t use it. He enjoyed whatever it was, what his senior did to him. He just didn’t understand why, since he liked girls. He had a crush on Ple. Sky clearly misunderstood all his signals when he tried to show that he couldn’t get up. So he gave up, and covered himself with his shirt.

Ever since that day, Phayu has been the only person Rain could think about. Ple wasn’t even the factor for his brain. He was confused about why he couldn’t even fantasize about how it would be to date his dream girl. No, only that mean senior and the damned moment in the bathroom. Why couldn’t he let that go already? He just wanted to be left alone. He was perfectly happy to avoid the subject and thoughts of Phayu altogether, until he could finally forget about the bad senior. But when would that happen, for real? He wondered.

The consequences of only having one certain person on his mind were hard to deal with, Rain learned that. Well. Excellent, actually. That lesson hit him hard. The classes became a torture for him, since he had no focus for them. It irritated all of his professors, to the point where they told him to pull himself together. Or drop out of architecture if he couldn’t do it or handle the pressure. That ended with Rain crying, right after he met with the professors, because of all the frustrations. He had no idea what to do, so he went to Sky, hopeful that he could help him. His friend tried to teach him, but decided Rain was a hopeless case for teaching.

That’s why his best friend signed him up for tutoring, with, apparently, the best student who already graduated. Why would a graduate student even bother teaching them? Didn’t they have better things to do, other than tutor hopeless students who were desperate not to fail the class or the year? Sky enrolled both of them, since Rain needed that desperately, and there was never too much to learn. Very strange way of thinking, if you asked him.

Tutoring was put down as a group one, since the senior, who held these sessions, had a full-time job. Rain had no problem with that, he actually preferred it. Anything that included more people, usually meant that the less focus was on him. And that was the most perfect feeling in the world, because he didn’t feel so overwhelmed, like he would if the tutoring was individual.

It was the time for the first session, a few days since he was signed up for them. ‘Already?’ Rain wasn’t the only one, even from his friends. There were also Sig, Por and Ple. Beautiful, sweet and kind girl Rain was in love with. The one he hoped would accept his advances and date him. Or at least he thought he was. Before Phayu entered his life that rainy night, saving him from waiting for his dad for hours. Before, every free space in his brain was filled with thoughts of the senior. Now he wasn’t so sure. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to be with sweet, kind, beautiful Ple. Just, all the things became so confusing since that senior entered his life. Much like a storm, his namesake. And the absolute last thing Rain has ever expected, and in that moment especially, was to see him as their tutor. He was freaking out inside now, fighting hard not to let it show outside. Really hard. Hoping he wasn’t failing at this.

🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️

Phayu wondered why he was doing this to himself again. He was already busy enough, and he just added another activity to his schedule. Tutoring. What the hell has he been thinking to offer that? With his full-time job as an architect, doing repairings in the garage, organizing races and being the main mechanic there. He added tutoring his juniors to his list. He enjoyed helping them. But that usually was simply checking on their work and giving them a few helpful pointers in the right direction. He didn’t have to explain exactly what the professors wanted them to do.

Truth be told, he was fully aware of what changed for him. Even if he pretended he wasn’t. Rain. He wanted to spend more time with Rain. He couldn’t just go to his boy and ask, no. Because the sweet boy wasn’t ready to be his. Yet. It was still too early to ask his sweet boy out on a date. No, what Phayu needed now was his darling making the first step. More likely, the next step, since he made the first one. In the garage, in his room (or fuckpad if you asked his brother) there. Even if that one was miscalculated on his part. He rushed his lovely boy, pushed for more than Rain was ready. At the time. He wouldn’t make the same mistake twice.

The solution was to offer tutoring to more than one student, in fact a group of them, hoping his cute boy would be there. His wish came true, once again, as his darling was there among other students. That made him genuinely happy and warm inside. Now was not the time to be smiling like a fool, but how could he help it. Rain was right there, so close to Phayu. Easy to reach. ‘Too easy’, his brain joyfully supplied. Alright, he reigned in his emotions. He always did that, controlling himself to the point he couldn’t anymore. It was exhausting, but also rewarding at the same time. Might not have been the best possible explanation, but it was the one he had.

Everyone there already knew who he was. Not that Phayu expected anything different. They all knew him, without actually knowing him. Just because he won a few architecture awards (including the international one) and was very popular (‘still are’, thought Phayu wistfully), absolutely didn’t mean he wanted people to stare at him like he is some sort of idol. Something that was annoying, very much so. Of course, he understood that he was a very accomplished and successful student. But that didn’t mean that he wanted a lover who looked at him like he hung the moon, stars and the sun. And only people like that were offering. Sometimes, he wished he was different, less known. Even if it was impossible, after everything he did.

The group had around twenty people, currently too many. Not all of them would stay, he was certain of that fact. Not after they see how strict he was. How demanding. How much he disliked tardiness and preferred precision. How difficult he could be to work with, especially when he is tired. Then the group would be manageable, and he couldn’t wait for that moment. For now, he would just teach them all, help them with homework assignments and things like that. If only this was a private session with Rain. That would be a dream. One he planned on making a reality, soon. Very soon.

He started the session, offering his help to everyone who came, but paying the most attention to his sweet boy. He was special, even if he wasn’t Phayu’s yet . Rain would be his pretty soon, no doubt about that. That would be completely willingly, because he would never force it. Maybe manipulate it a bit. That would be okay. It would align with his morals, which are already partially screwed with the work he did at the races, for Pakin. He wouldn’t change a thing in his life, not even the exhaustion he felt daily, constantly. The only thing he wanted now was to have his sweet boy give into his desire for Phayu. The one Rain still wasn’t aware of, not consciously. He knew that, Phayu really did, but he was getting impatient, even when he was so painfully aware of the fact that he had to wait.

The tutoring was actually a smart idea. Honestly, he had to admit to himself. Unsurprisingly, since his ideas rarely turned bad. The incident in the garage with Rain is not included in the counting. He was so exhausted everyday, with his big pile of work. ‘Enormous sounds closer to the actual truth, rather than big’, thought Phayu. Basically two full-time and one part-time job, just what he needed. He could get physically close to Rain, stand right behind him, and blame it all on helping. Such a wonderful feeling, being able to be so close in his darling’s space, making him an innocent and kind senior only helping his junior. How much he loved this, his sweet boy smelled wonderful, just as Phayu remembered, from that night at the garage. The night he decided he would pursue and woo Rain.

At the end of the session, they all agreed that having them twice a week was acceptable. ‘Thankfully, I won’t lose too much more sleep. More than I already am losing.’ How helpful was his brain with adding all these thoughts at the most awkward moments? That made his life a little easier and a lot harder at the same time. ‘Easier because of losing less sleep. Harder because how am I supposed to start to date my Rain? If we only see each other twice a week. How do I convince him to make the first move? Without openly telling him what I want’, thinking was hard.  He would get through this somehow. He hoped, at least.

🌧🌧🌧🌧🌧

No matter how much Rain fought against seeing Phayu again, he had to admit that he was a good tutor. He was patient and gentle enough not to make anyone feel bad about themselves. ‘Not to make you feel bad about yourself, Rain’, he added inside his mind. Strict, as well, with reasonable demands from them. The senior (who he no longer called an asshole or jerk as much as he did before) made Rain feel special, smart. Rarely anyone ever did something like that. ‘They rarely ever bothered’, Rain reminded himself. And he loved the attention he was getting. He felt cherished. He felt important. More than he ever has before in all his life. That brought the question: why did Phayu care? He didn’t want for people to get him wrong, he knew his parents loved him and cared for him - they were just too busy to be there most of the time. When it was the most important. He was aware that Sky valued their friendship, that he cared - but he didn’t want to be a bother and to annoy his friend more than he already did. The way he felt about every friend of his.

The next session that he went to was great. With Phayu as attentive as the first time. And he felt he could maybe relax a bit. The progress was slow-going. Very very slow. But with each time, he could feel like himself more. After each session, his confidence was boosted. His feeling of importance was raised. That helped him realize he was attracted to the senior. So he began to impatiently wait for them. Smiling to himself on the days he had them, humming happy melodies all day. The change didn’t go unnoticed by his family or friends. But no one mentioned anything to him. Probably because they were happy and full of joy about it.

Then things started to change. Slowly, but hurtfully. Heartbreakingly. Phayu stopped paying any attention to Rain. Gradually. With each passing session, the senior noticed Rain less and less. When he started to notice how fast he was losing him, he cried himself to sleep. Every night. Because it hurt, it hurt so bad. ‘So fucking bad’, he added in his head, crying his eyes out. Tears wouldn’t stop falling, wetting the pillow in which he buried his face in. The ache in his heart was so massive. Questions stuck inside his mind. Each one more agonizing than the other.

The new person who was chosen by his senior is Ple. Now she was the one to get all the attention. The one Phayu focused on. But why her? Was Rain wrong in his assumptions? Did he do something he shouldn’t have? Forgot to do some assignment? Angered the senior somehow? Has he said something rude again? He didn’t think he did, he was careful to speak politely, especially in front of Phayu. The warning was still fresh in his mind, even if it had been around two months. ‘Already?’, Rain asked himself. He knew he liked Ple, knew that he was in love with her, but at this moment he hated her. And he just didn’t understand why. That couldn’t be the attraction he felt for Phayu, could it? He liked girls, he couldn’t possibly be attracted to Phayu? Could he be jealous because she was the center of the senior’s attention? He really wanted to know why he wasn't the special one anymore. Craved that knowledge, that information, that answer. All of the answers to all of his many questions.

Finally, Rain had enough of being ignored. Of the silent treatment he was getting from Phayu. He was sick of it. He couldn’t stand the feeling that Ple was also played with, just like Rain was previously. He didn’t want for the girl he liked, and who was his friend, to get her heart broken. She didn’t deserve it. So he decided to go and talk to the senior about it. He came up with a plan to speak to Phayu, he honestly did. But things didn’t always go according to the plans. Instead of calmly talking, Rain started yelling almost immediately as he walked into the classroom where the tutoring sessions were held.

“How dare you play with Ple’s feelings? She doesn’t deserve to be used like that! She is not the toy for you to play with! She respects you, you fucking asshole! She’s so nice, such a sweet girl, and she likes you! How could you treat her like that?! You are the biggest jerk I know!”

Phayu found it funny for some reason, unknown to Rain, which made him even more angry than he was. But the asshole also dared to get angry at his language. And the use of vulgar words. He couldn’t believe it, the cruelty of the senior. The nerve that man had.

🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️

As more time and tutoring sessions passed, he started noticing the looks Rain was giving him, as secretly as his boy could. For the first part, he focused mostly on his sweet boy. Gave him attention and enjoyed how much his darling boy loved it. How much more confident his cute boy became, how much his lovely boy relied on him. Oh, how many times Phayu just wanted to cave in, to kiss his boy passionately, to push him to the wall. To do so much more than just kiss Rain. With the confidence boost he gave to his sweet boy, he could even tease him a bit. His darling wasn’t ready for more. Not yet, but he would make sure to prepare his sweet boy for more. Rain’s looks at him became much more open during that period. Openly desiring Phayu, he found it so hot. But also adorable, how cutely his darling tried to hide it from him. As if he didn’t notice, and fell in love just a tiny bit more because of that.

Now that he has seen Rain’s reactions to him giving him being so attentive, he wanted more. So much more than this. Patience was the key to his plan. And now it was the perfect time to change the tactic he has been using until now. He started paying less and less attention to his sweet boy, pretending to do just that, more precisely. He could never fully ignore Rain, it would be too hard to do that now. But he started helping others more than his darling, hoping to make his lovely boy jealous, to push him to make the next move. Because it was essential for his darling to make a move, this time. It wasn’t Phayu’s turn, he would need to wait. For now.

He remembered the girl who had an obvious crush on him. She was also here for the tutoring sessions. So he involved her in his ‘make his cute boy jealous enough to make the next move’ plan. He gave the girl, whose name he didn’t even know or remember (and he couldn’t really care less about it or her, for that matter), more attention and helped her during the tutoring lessons. He was a good tutor and she had a lot of good potential for architecture, but he had seen better works. Like that boy Sky, for example. The girl became so much better with his guidance, so he was truly glad for her success.

There is someone who didn’t like it. His Rain came to him, furious, and yelled at him for playing with Ple’s feelings. ‘Who is Ple? The girl? Must be the girl I spent time with recently, instead of with my boy’, realized Phayu. He chuckled at his boy’s yelling. Wrong move, not what he should have done. Not at this moment, but he couldn’t really help it. The boy was so cute when he was angry. ‘Did he just call me an asshole? Too many vulgar words, little one’, thought Phayu as he scowled at Rain. Furious because of the cussing.

“Do you even know what you are talking about, Rain? And have you forgotten my warning?”

He said with irritation clearly heard in his voice. He was close (too close) to fully snapping.

“Yes, I do! You are a fucking asshole who plays with my friend’s feelings! I’m not going to let a jerk like you hurt Ple! And you can go fuck yourself with your warning!”

His boy screamed at him, some more. And the only thing Phayu wanted to do now was to grab Rain, hold him and never let go. ‘Not really. You want to fuck him, to ravish him completely’, his brain added. Corrected his thoughts, if he wanted to be honest.

‘Did he really miss all the signs of my attraction? Did I somehow miscalculate again? No, I thought I got it right. I wasn’t wrong, Rain was interested. I might have gone too far with the plan’, wondered Phayu. He was so confused - how should he fix this? What could he do now to show his darling he didn’t mean to hurt Ple? He knew he was cruel to the poor girl. She hadn’t done a thing to him, she just had a crush on him. His sweet boy was right, doing this wasn’t fair. It was unnecessary to give the girl false hope about them potentially dating one day. She was pretty, attractive and sweet. He would surely date her if he hadn’t met a cute boy in the rain that day. But Ple had one huge flaw, completely unfixable for her, and that was - Ple wasn’t Rain. She would never be Rain.

“I’m not playing with your friend’s feelings, Nong. I’m simply teaching her and helping her improve. I do the same for every junior who comes to ask me for help. It’s nothing personal for me. All of them understand it. And so should you, it’s not that hard to grasp. Even someone as slow and dumb as you should be able to get it.”

He said while looking straight into Rain’s eyes, waiting for the reaction.

“I’m not dumb! How dare you call me dumb? Fine, I’m dumb! I’m stupid! Brainless just like everybody says!”

His darling (‘Not yours yet’, his extremely helpful brain added) yelled at him again, looking so fiercely angry. And then, much to Phayu’s surprise, Rain pulled him into a kiss so hard that it split his lip and drew a tiny bit of blood. He was utterly shocked.

“Just you wait, Phi! This stupid, dumb boy is going to make you fall in love with. You wouldn’t dare to call me dumb ever again!”

After the end of the sentence, he could finally unfreeze. He pulled Rain into another kiss, he needed to feel his boy’s lips on his again, and another one after that. It felt like time stopped for a moment, just enough for Phayu to fully enjoy the feeling of Rain’s warm lips.

“Then I’ll wait and see. You better be able to do what you just said.”

He left the room after, still feeling the kiss and wiped the blood, thinking to himself.

‘You’re gonna make me fall in love with you? I wasn’t going to bring out my bad behavior, but… If you’re going to make me love you, do you already know what kind of person I am?’

🌧🌧🌧🌧🌧

When he was left alone in the classroom, Rain wanted to pull all his hair out. ‘What the hell have I just done?’ He was thinking to himself. His mouth was much faster than his brain today, so annoying. He didn’t mean to promise to make Phayu fall in love with him, no matter how stupidly handsome the senior was. Ugh, he was so irritated at his own brainlessness. He should just go home, it was getting late already and he was so tired. He also needed to think things through, mainly the promise he just made to his senior.

The next morning, he woke up and the first thoughts he had were about the evening before. The words he said were still fresh in his mind. ‘Just wait and see. This stupid boy will make you fall in love with me! You wouldn’t dare to call me dumb ever again!’ How was he supposed to make Phayu fall in love with him? He couldn’t even successfully pursue Ple, the sweetest and prettiest girl he knew. He was asking himself what he was thinking yesterday, over and over, replaying what he had told the senior.

He went to classes that day, as usual, even if they were tiring. Sky looked at him, as if his friend was about to ask him what was wrong, but not really asking. Rain noticed his best friend’s worry about him, he really did, but he couldn’t reassure him that everything was alright. He couldn’t, because he didn’t know, no matter how much he wished he did. Maybe he could talk to Sky, and clear some of the lingering thoughts in his head. He should maybe talk to his mama, she usually had great advice on what to do or how to do something. His focus was getting out of hand right now, he should try to pay more attention to the professor and the lecture he was currently on.

When the last class of the day was over (‘Finally’, thought Rain.), he asked his friend if they could talk. He needed help as he had no idea what to do. Sky always seemed like he knew more about relationships, more than Rain did anyway.

“You said you wanted to talk, Rain. What is the problem? Can I help you somehow?”

Just like any other time, Sky just could read him with ease, like Rain was an open book.

“I do, Sky. Remember when I went to codeline gathering, and behaved even more weird?”

He says, waiting for his friend to react. He got a nod as a sign to continue, so he did.

“That night, my car broke down and P’Phayu helped me tow it to his family’s garage. It was heavily raining and no other mechanics would come to tow the car. He took me to the garage, let me use the shower and gave me clean, dry clothes. I came out of the shower, wiping my hair, when Phi offered to dry it. It felt so good and he was so gentle. But then, he kissed my neck and wouldn’t accept my no for an answer. Until I hit him with the pillow.”

He had to stop speaking for a bit, to take a few deep breaths. Sky looked angry at this confession, making Rain scared that he did something wrong. ‘Oh, no. I made Sky mad. What did I do?’ Rain was so worried.

“P’Phayu did what exactly? Rain, please tell me he didn’t actually force you to do anything. Please!”

His friend looked so angry, almost murderous. What has he done wrong now? He didn’t understand.

“He didn’t do anything. He stopped and didn’t touch me after. Did I do something wrong? Should I have done something differently?”

“No, Rain, you did nothing wrong. You hear me? Absolutely nothing! P’Phayu was the one who did something wrong. You have a right to say no, Rain! Even if the other person doesn’t like it, you have a right to say no. No means no! No doesn’t mean maybe! No doesn’t mean ask again and I’ll say yes! Do you understand what I’m saying?”

He just nodded, relieved that Sky wasn’t angry at him. Then Sky asked about the bathroom incident. And Rain explained that one too, resulting in even more anger in his best friend. He had to stop Sky from actually killing Phayu because of how much he was hurt.

“I’m so sorry for signing you up to his tutoring lessons. I should have asked you before I did it if you are okay with it. You had full rights to not want to see the senior ever again.”

Sky said softly and hugged him tightly.

“I’m okay, Sky. Really. He didn’t hurt me. And I liked what he did to me in the bathroom. I just don’t know how to name it. It felt really good.”

Rain explained his side of the story again. Soon after, he drove his friend to the dorm and went home.

🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️

Phayu had a plan, what to do for the next session. He was going to apologize to Rain for everything he said and did to hurt his cute boy, because he felt like the biggest jerk in the whole world for his actions. He was glad that his sweet boy called him out because of them. He would explain his actions to his darling, hoping to be forgiven. He would also apologize to Ple, since he didn’t mean to give her any false hope, especially not about them dating. He also wanted to ask Rain out. He was so happy, and his brother noticed. ‘Of course he did, Sai’s not an idiot’, he thought.

“Would you look at that? My older brother is in such a good mood.”

“My mood isn’t as good as yours, brother.”

“If you want to be in a very good mood, you should be in a serious relationship. How long have you actually been single? Hold on, Ai’Yu. Do you have someone? Is there someone you haven’t told me about yet?”

“I’ll tell you when I actually have someone. I’m going inside now to check on the guys.”

After that, he left his brother alone, hearing chuckles as he was walking away from Saifah. He checked on the employees and went to get ready for another tutoring lesson.

The session went as usual, his juniors had questions about their projects and needed help with their homework assignments. It took his all to help Phayu survive this lesson. He just wanted to make things right with Rain. He screwed up badly, and his lovely boy deserved so much better and that was exactly what he would give - his best. When this finally ended, he asked his boy to stay for a bit, just to talk. He wasn’t prepared that Sky, who is Rain’s best friend from what he learned, would stay as well and not give him any alone time with his darling.

“I hope you don’t mind, P’Phayu, but I would also like to stay. Just in case you have some useful advice to give my friend. I would like to hear it too. Simply to make sure that Rain doesn’t forget to tell me.”

That boy was smiling at him, but it was so obvious that Sky knew what happened between Rain and him and he wasn’t forgiving Phayu for what he did. Inside his brain was a battle between being scared of Sky’s warning (threat) and being happy because his darling had such a protective friend. Happiness was winning that inner battle, as Rain meant much more to him than his pride did. So he smiled back at his sweet boy’s friend and said.

“I don’t mind you staying here, N’Sky, but I was hoping to have a private conversation with N’Rain. If you are alright with your friend staying here, than so am I”

He finished the sentence, turning to Rain, letting him know that he would decide whether Sky stayed here or left the room.

“I would like Sky to stay, since you don’t mind, P’Phayu. Whatever you want to tell me, my friend can hear too. I don’t keep things from Ai’Sky.”

His lovely boy understood his signals perfectly, and responded to them so easily. He was honestly impressed. If he believed in soulmates, Rain would definitely be the one he chose for himself.

“Alright, if that’s what you want.”

He said and at his dear boy’s nod, he continued, while both Rain and Sky watched him, silently. He had no other choice, he had to confess to his sweet boy in front of Sky. He didn’t have to like it, but he did have to do this now or he would lose his darling forever.

“First, I want to apologize to you. I wasn’t behaving like a good senior to you, Rain. Truth is that I did remember you, I couldn’t forget the cute boy who held an umbrella over me while I was changing the blown tire. I was happy to see you again, and you were the only reason I actually came to the codeline gathering. I just didn’t know your name, which is why I reacted the way I did. I never wanted to hurt you. What hurt was the way you addressed me, Rain. I thought you were like so many other people, only interested in ‘that Phayu’ and not me. I’m deeply sorry I misunderstood your actions. For every time I did so. And I’m so sorry you felt like I threw you away in favor of your friend Ple.”

“You really remembered me, Phi?”

“Yes, I did. How could I ever forget you? You are special, and I would be really grateful if you give me another chance. A chance to prove to you that I’m not a bad person.”

Sky was quietly observing the exchange between Rain and him, waiting to see if he would screw up again. He would never forgive himself if he did it again.

“I accept your apology and I can give you another chance, P’Phayu. But only one, no more than that.”

“Thank you, Rain! I won’t let you down, not again. I promise you that.”

He smiled widely, his lovely boy accepted the apology and gave him another chance. He would use it wisely. The moment the conversation was over, he was alone as Sky and Rain went to their homes.

🌧🌧🌧🌧🌧

Ever since Phayu apologized to him, things started to change. Rain was there the moment when Ple also received hers. He was glad to see his senior trying so hard. It made him smile every time he remembered how Phayu invited him to the garage again. He met Saifah, Phayu’s younger twin brother, and the two of them got along quite nicely. He felt like he had a sibling for the first time in his life. Sky and he were very close, that was the truth, but with his best friend it never felt like they were brothers. Their connection went so much deeper, and Rain didn’t really know how to explain it.

After a few weeks of constant texting and calls whenever they managed to find some free time, Phayu asked him out on a date. Rain couldn’t contain his excitement any longer, so he dragged Sky to help him get ready. He wanted to look so good, to leave his date at a loss of words, and he knew exactly what he would wear to achieve that goal. It was his favorite combination and he felt sexy wearing it. He enjoyed himself on the date, and he wanted to go on more than one date, so much more. Since then, they went on many more dates, each one more special than the last.

The exams were nearby and Rain had so much to study and a lot of projects to do. That led into Phayu inviting him over to the garage to study, in his own corner there. It became their time to spend together, while working at the same time. Every break he had, he would go and watch Phayu working on a bike or a car. And any time Phayu had a break, he would come and keep Rain company as he was studying or working on the project.

He had his final presentation today, exams were over, already. His teachers praised him, and he was so happy and excited. He rushed to tell Phayu, he called him, but no answer. It started raining, but he still waited for the senior to come home. When he finally did, he was pulled inside the house and straight into the bathtub so they both could get warmed up. Rain was so flushed as Phayu washed him with the warm water, but he enjoyed it very much. The kissing was awesome, but he was still shy and nervous about sharing the bath.

“You naughty boy, always making my heart beat faster.”

“P’Phayu, you said I you would take a bath. Or, at least, I thought you did. Let me go…”

It wasn’t that Rain disliked this, bathing together, but they weren’t really a couple, not yet.

“We are taking a bath now, sweet boy. You were the one standing in the rain, getting wet and cold.”

“I was waiting for Phi to come… You can get out now, and I will wash up.”

“But I got wet as well, darling. I’ll get sick too, if I don’t wash up quickly.”

“Go to another room to wash up, Phi. There’s no need to bathe together.”

“Stay still, Rain. I’m sorry I didn’t charge my phone on time, I’m sorry my phone’s battery died. I’m sorry for coming home late. I’m sorry I left you to sit alone in the rain for hours. I’m sorry.”

There was no explanation for the last apology, so Rain assumed it was for everything altogether. He stayed still and let Phayu warm him up and pull him closer.

“I forgive you, Phi”

He said as an answer to all of Phayu’s apologies. He knew his boyfriend needed to hear it now.

He let Phayu get him out of the water and wrap him up in a big fluffy towel, drying him off gently and carefully. It made Rain feel precious, valued, and he loved that feeling. Then Rain dried Phayu off, with the same amount of care he was previously given. They started kissing sweetly again, deepening it with every passing moment, both of them needing this reassurance now. He hadn’t even noticed when they moved to the bedroom, until he ended up lying on it with Phayu on top of him. In the middle of them making out, Rain stopped and said.

“I didn’t come here for this, Phi. I came to tell you how my professors praised me, for the first time since the beginning of the year.”

He looked at Phayu lovingly, waiting for his answer.

“But, Rain… Didn’t you ask me to let you stay by my side? This is my answer to that question.”

He felt butterfly kisses all over his neck and collarbone, almost losing himself in the pleasure. He could feel hands roaming his body, touching every part they could.

“Please, don’t stop me.”

Phayu whispered in his ear, a hot breath tickling his skin there. He was so sensitive.

“I won’t bear with it anymore, Rain… “

Then he felt a sudden rush of cold air as Phayu moved away from him. He looked curiously at what he was doing now, when Phayu took the condom, still wrapped, and offered it to him.

“Can you?”

Rain shook his head.

“But, Phi… I’ve never…”

It was hard to find the words, to concentrate on speaking when he could feel Phayu’s fingers deep inside him, preparing him. It was a strange feeling, but it didn’t hurt.

“I’ll teach you myself.”

Phayu’s voice was so deep now, that Rain got shivers. His boyfriend removed his fingers, took the wrapped condom and ripped the wrapping with his teeth. He gently entered, only a tip at first, letting Rain adjust for which he was thankful. Slowly, Phayu entered more, inch by inch until he was full length deep inside Rain. Phayu was so patient at first, only pulling out a bit then pushing back in with little force. He moaned, which pushed his lover over the edge and made him speed things up. When they both were so close to cumming, Phayu looked at him possessively.

“Rain belongs to Phi now. Say it”

His boyfriend practically growled.

“Rain belongs to P’Phayu now…”

He repeated and Phayu pushed in deep, both of them finishing together. Phayu cleaned him up afterwards and both of them fell asleep in each other’s arms, content.
