Work Text:
Elle Woods, who, now aged 43 had started to develop crow's feet and grey hair at her temples received a whatsapp from her eighteen year old lover, the author of this fanfiction.
"feeling down :(" It read. And then quickly, before Elle had a chance to reply with a "Oh no!", a second message came.
"did like no revision today :("
Elle hit send on her previous message, and followed it up with, "That can't feel good, I know your first exam is on Tuesday"
A response, "yeah", came quick as a Shien fashion trend, and a following typing text at the top resolving itself into, "I'm so worried that I haven't done enough for these exams, and that I'm going to end up doing worse than in my mocks, but that worry isn't enough to get me to actually do more revision, so that's great. At least I don't have to worry about keeping up with my predicteds for uni, I guess, but that doesn't stop me from placing much more of my stupid self worth on my two stupid a levels than I really should."
It had been a long while since Elle herself had had to revise for an exam, and even then revision had never really been something that she'd struggled with, but she knew from previous discussions with her young lover that the girl was not the same. Still, that in no way meant she couldn't comfort her.
"Oh sweetheart! Oh honey don't worry, it'll all come right in the end. You've still got tomorrow and Monday, and I know you'll do better then."
That got a "<3" in reply, and Elle paused before adding, "Besides, no matter what happens, you'd still be firmly in the running for my disgustingly young second spouse 🤣"
She was pretty certain it'd land well, as she knew that her girlfriend harboured dreams of being 'a politicians third wife' as she'd put it on one memorable occasion, and that she'd find it funny to boot.
To be honest, Elle was not quite sleazy enough of a politician to be completely free of moral compunctions about the age gap between the two of them. They'd met one evening in a pub in February, and she'd very nearly broken it off when she realised that not only was new girlfriend a teenager, but also a school girl. Still, maybe it was an early onset midlife crisis speaking, but she was the first person Elle had really clicked with after Emmett.
Her girlfriend seemingly had no similar conflicts, and sent back a message that read, "aw babe you say the sweetest things love heart eyes emoji". Elle didn't quite get why her lover would physically type out the emojis name, but the sentiment was there.
Elle stared to type out a message that would continue the conversation, but then she saw the time, and realised how late it must be in Greenwich mean, and instead sent, "Hey, I know it's a weekend, but it looks like it's getting pretty late for you over there, so I'm just going to say goodnight, and that I'm very willing to help you with your revision, if you want me to."
The response read, "Thanks for reminding me of my bedtime mum (I don't have mummy issues. my interest in older people is not a reflection of my relationship with my parents, who I love. I don't have mummy issues)." Elle smiled, and waited for the second message her girlfriend was typing out, which ended up reading, "but seriously though, my complete lack of mummy (or daddy!) Issues aside, thank you. Like geniuanlly, thank you so much, and if my exams on Tuesday and Wednesday don't go well, I might take you up on that offer"
With that, Elle saw her girlfriend go offline, and she moved on with the rest of her day.
