Summary:

After a case a local cop keeps on calling Tony. Some people are more amused than others.

Work Text:

At first Gibbs finds it funny, payback for all the times the shoe was on the other foot. But unlike the women who develop unhealthy attachments to him Tony’s admirer continues calling after the case is put to bed.

McGee puts a call on hold and calls out, “GQ is on line two for you Tony.”

Tony keeps it professional, pretends not to know he’s being hit on.

When he finally manages to shrug off his suitor McGee is smirking and Gibbs reigns in his anger to see where it goes.

“I think he’s in love, Tony,” McGee mocks.

“Then he’s in for a heart break.”

“It’s not like you haven’t been known to kiss a guy now and then.”

“Doesn’t mean I’m going to succumb to every guy who’s persistent about courting me. I have standards Timmy.”

McGee doesn’t miss a beat over Tony not denying his bisexuality. “And a local cop who could moonlight as an underwear model doesn’t meet them?”

“Not my type McNosy.” McGee’s only response is a skeptical look and Tony laughs, “Okay, aesthetically he’d do, but I like competence, self assurance, and a strong will. Mr. Cape St. Claire PD has none of those traits.”

“He seems pretty self assured while he’s attempting to woo you.”

Tony laughs, “Nah, that’s bravado through and through.”

McGee drops it, and Gibbs lets Tony’s assurances that the Underwear model isn’t his type sooth him.

Two days later Tony gets a call during dinner and makes a face before letting it ring through to voicemail. He shrugs, “He hasn’t seemed to get the point just yet.”

“Maybe if you were a little more direct about it.”

Tony sighs heavily, “I’ve been trying to save him some embarrassment by pretending not to know what he’s after. If he gets through to me again, I’ll tell him my boyfriend gets jealous.”

The next time he calls Gibbs is the only one in the bullpen. He considers just hanging up, despite how he feels about the whole thing he knows this idiot is no real threat. Then the idiot asks, “Would you let him know I called for him?”

Without thought Gibbs growls, “You really can’t take a hint can you? Do you honestly imagine that he doesn’t know exactly how many times you’ve called? He’s been trying to spare your feelings, but his significant other is ready to have you charged with stalking.”

“Stalking?” GQ asks incredulously.

“You’re making calls at all hours and have ignored repeated attempts to end your advances. While Tony has the patience of a saint not everyone does.”

“So you and Tony…”

“Exactly.”

GQ hangs up without another word.

When Gibbs looks up Tony is on the other side of his desk with a thunderous expression, “Did you honestly just piss on my leg to that guy?”

Gibbs knows he’s been caught so he shrugs, “That’s one way of putting it.”

Tony’s expression falters for a second before he asks, “How would you put it?”

“I let him know that your significant other does not appreciate his persistence.”

“You do know you don’t own me, right?”

“If you preferred Mr. GQ you would have said so by now.”

Tony finally cracks at that, chuckling just a little, “Jealous is cute on you.”

McGee makes a small, distressed noise from behind Tony.

Tony turns around and leans on Gibbs’ desk, “Problem McGee?”

McGee pauses, seems to marshal himself, then smirks, “No wonder the underwear model isn’t your thing.”

“Hot is only half the battle,” Tony acknowledges without looking back.

Gibbs in turn chuckles at that, fairly sure that at least for the time being he’s off the hook.

McGee sits down before asking contemplatively, “Why not just tell GQ you were seeing somebody?”

“It’s none of his business. Or yours, McInquisitive.”

“You like watching me growling over it,” Gibbs murmurs quietly enough that only Tony hears him.

Tony laughs, and in response Gibbs growls, “Don’t you both have work to do?”
