Chapter Text

The teacher hadn't arrived yet. Marinette and Adrien were technically late, so this was a good thing, but it also meant that the whole class was gathered around Lila, with no teacher to get them back into their seats before the lying bitch said something to set the secret superheroes off.

"Adrien, you've got to hear this!"

Huh, Nino was the first to speak for once. He seemed genuinely concerned, and Adrien hurried over, trying not to look annoyed that he was going to have to hear something from that piece of trash. He was surprised when Nino's gaze shifted to Marinette, and an ugly look came upon his face.

Lila was in front of him now, crocodile tears in her eyes.

"Oh, it's horrible! I'm so sorry Adrien!" She sobbed, clutching his shirt. He stepped back, forcing her to stand up straight.

"What?" He asked calmly. Anything Lila was saying wasn't something he was going to worry about, unless she was slandering him or his Princess.

"Marinette's cheating on you!" Lila blurted out.

Adrien's heart stopped for a spilt second, and he immediately felt guilty. There was zero chance, not even in an alternate universe, that Marinette - his Princess, Ladybug, Bugaboo, his Lady - would cheat on him. So he just stared at Lila dryly until Marinette spoke up.

"Got any proof of that, Lila?" She said (he loved it when she was confident like that), but Lila just smiled - evilly, in his opinion.

"Oh but I do, Marinette Dupain-Cheng. This here, is a picture of you on your balcony, kissing Chat Noir!" She said triumphantly, and held out her phone.

Sure enough, there it was. Chat Noir and Marinette, wrapped up in each other's arms, clearly kissing. It wasn't photoshopped, either, which surprised both of them as Lila was actually using evidence to back up her claims for once.

They both stared dumbfoundedly at the picture for what felt like a long time.

Eventually, Adrien slowly turned his head to face Marinette. She had (fake) tears in her eyes and he knew it, and knew how she wanted to play this.

"Marinette?" He said, and impressed himself with how upset he sounded. "Is this- is this true?"

She turned away from him. He knew she was just trying not to laugh, but their 'friends' took it as an admission of guilt, and the few who weren't angry at her quickly became furious.

"Is he a good kisser?" He asked softly, much to the confusion of his classmates. Marinette whirled round, eyes alive with a mixture of mirth and fury.

"Oh you did not just ask me that Adrien Agreste!" She yelled, and a few people jumped back in surprise.

"I'm just wondering what I'm competing against here!" He said, throwing his hands up in defence.

"Oh that's not why you asked and we both know it!" She yelled back. Lila was still smiling, looking confused but at least happy that she had caused an argument between the couple.

"Why did I ask then, Princess? Or, sorry, is that his nickname for you?" He said slyly, a hint of his Chat Noir grin peeking through.

Marinette turned her nose up and refused to answer. Nino unsurely put a hand on his shoulder, presumably in an effort to comfort him.

"That's rough, dude." He said, and Adrien just looked back at him, puzzled.

"What is?" He said straight faced, and Mari would applaud him after for not cracking up.

"Well- Marinette- cheating on you! With a superhero!" Nino replied, seemingly wondering if his friend had gone mad with grief or something. Or contracted amnesia recently.

"Well that's- wait, are you saying I couldn't compete with a superhero?!" He cut himself off angrily, looking indignant.

Marinette giggled.

"Oh, you know you can't Adrien. Face it, Chat Noir's way hotter than you!" She laughed, and the girls gasped at her harsh words.

"Marinette! What a dreadful thing to say!" Lila yelled, but Adrien just shook his head.

"No, no, I think she's right, I mean Chat Noir is pretty hot." He responded, one hand on his chin as though he was carefully considering the cat themed superhero.

"But what about Ladybug?" Marinette asked, a glint in her eye.

"Ah." Adrien responded, as though a light bulb had gone off in his head. "Well, I'd have to say she's hotter than all three of us. After all, that's why I'm cheating on you with her- oh, did I say that out loud?" He said casually, and everyone - including Marinette - gasped. Marinette gasped the most dramatically though.

She put her hand on her forehead and fell back as though she had been greatly wounded by his words.

He caught her as she wailed "Oh, how could you Adrien?! I thought we were soulmates, meant to be together forever!"

"What!?" Alya shouted, her glasses askew with rage. "Then why the hell'd you cheat on him?!?"

"Alas!" Cried Marinette, tears flowing freely from both her and her kitty's eyes. "He came to me in the night, and I could not help be swayed by his charms! The temptation was too great!" She yelled, and her and Adrien stayed in position like tragic lovers for a few more seconds, before her tears dried up and she looked up at Adrien.

"Too much?" She asked seriously.

"A little, I did love the drama though." He replied, lifting her back to her feet.

"Yeah, I could have done without the 'temptation' and being 'swayed by his charms'" She responded, putting air quotes around her previous lines and rolling her eyes.

"Aww, those were my favourite lines!" Adrien pouted, and Marinette couldn't resist giving him a quick peck on the lips right then and there.

"Ok, gotta voice what everyone's thinking here - What. The. Fuck!" Kim said out if nowhere, and Paris's unnecessarily dramatic heroes looked around.

While most of the class had looks of utter confusion on their faces, Lila merely seemed annoyed that she hadn't broken them up, and Chloe was hiding her shock under indifference.

"Oh. Well, news flash - I don't care. Marinette and I are very happy, you haven't told us anything new, and I'd appreciate if you'd stop trying to break us up, Rossi." Adrien said calmly, glaring at Lila along with his girlfriend.

"But- but she-" Lila spluttered, and Marinette smirked at seeing her stuck for once in her life.

"Jealousy isn't a good look, Lila." She told the Italian girl, and pulled Adrien back over to their seats, where she proceeded to sit on Adrien's lap.

"I think that went well, don't you M'Lady?" Adrien noted mid-purr.

"I couldn't agree more, kitty."

Notes:

Bonus:

When Kitty Section returned to the Liberty later that day, Luka was immediately concerned with how mad his sister looked, and how upset Rose was.

Unprompted, he got his answer.

"Oh, it's horrible! Marinette's cheating on Adrien with Chat Noir, and Adrien says he's cheating on her with Ladybug! They were so perfect together!" Rose cried, descending into sobs in her girlfriend's arms.

Luka stared.

A minute passed.

And then he burst out laughing.

[He regretted it the moment his sister and her friends thought he was happy that they'd broken up so he could date Marinette, and started to get mad at him. He had to firmly remind them that he would always be an Adrienette shipper (and Ladynoir, and Marichat, and Ladrien) no matter his personal feelings, but took 3 years and a public identity reveal to find a reason why it was so damn funny.]
